Not open during published open hours. We tried to call in for a drink at 1 pm as a halfway stop on our hike on 10.10.24. The lights were on, the radio blaring and a dog barking, but no one answered. There was no closed sign, and their website said it was open, so we rang both website numbers to see if it was due to open soon - no answer. It seems it's not a place to pop in for anything without notice!

Turned as in a party of pre booked and pre selected food items . To find no prep done and no food started . Owner on his own and drinking. WiFi not working so asked to hot spot phone in order to re order and pay before cooking started . Toilets dirty with no hand towels or hands drier. At this point I left but the rest waited over 2 hours for service . Poor to say least. Whilst I appreciate the chap has been let down with staff there is other things that were just wrong .

We rolled in after visiting Katrine around 18:00 pm. The parking lot was empty and saw reservations were required. We decided to give it a shot and knocked on the front door anyway. We were warmly greeted by owner/chef, Jason who welcomed us inside, started a fire, and made three amazing plates for my friends and me. Sous chef, Dave (sweet pup) provided lively company, and we enjoyed delicous meats and veggies and good conversation.

After walking halfway around Lock Venacher, we were slightly hungry. Jason only had soup this afternoon and offered it to us. Luckily, he made me a sirloin steak which was absolutely delicious. The cooking was perfect, the vegetables were tasty, simple but good!!

This place is mental.. It was recommended to me by a friend back in 2015 and last week we were "finally" in the area and I suggesting going there to our group of friends. BIGGEST mistake I made in years! Don't get me wrong, the place looked quite unique and I really appreciated the looks. It's got decorations, a fire place, basically it felt authentic and welcoming - probably the reason why we stayed there instead of leaving... But it was also pretty cold inside, we were seated right besides the toilet on the other end from the fireplace, and the place was pretty much empty - on a Saturday night. This should have been a red flag right there. We asked for drinks but they ran out of red wine and only had 1 glass of white wine left. I ordered beer instead, they only had bottle Corona, for a price of £6 per bottle! Note, the price wasn't written anywhere and we were not given any menu. The chef came to us to tell the menu (I requested a paper option, wanted to see the prices, but he said they didn't have one) for the night was, we were given options from 2 dishes, all fire roasted. He was recommending the chicken dish and since one of my friends was a vegetarian we chose the vegetarian option for him. We had to wait around an hour for the food to actually come and by that time I was wondering whether I should even eat due to how late it was getting... When the food came I changed my mind, it was one of the smallest portions I've seen! There was a few vegetables, some cheese and a small piece of chicken wrapped in ham. My vegetarian friend got exactly the same - just no chicken! He was angry not getting actual protein-based food but was at least happy that we won't have to pay much, I mean it's just some veggies yeah? The bill came, £92 for 3 people, which is for 3 dishes and 3 drinks (2 bottled beers and 1 hot chocolate). I double checked the vegetarian option and to my surprise, it was exactly the same, £25 per portion. You must be out of your mind to charge £25 for a mushroom, a carrot, a potato, some pepper, some onion and a bit of cheese!! I am sorry, but this is a tourist scam place, you should be ashamed for doing what you're doing, basically profiting from people that are in the area and are not aware of what kind of place is this. Btw the owner was quite ok, he was energetic, chatty and friendly. Although at times it was a bit too much to handle, in the end we just wanted to be left alone due to his directness and awkwardness.. Edit: added the photo as proof of "how packed it was" on the saturday night. Can also see the hot chocolate on the wall was £5, mains were £25, the beer price isn't shown on the wall and no drinks menu provided to show this EVEN on their website, don't believe me - go and check. I also cannot show you the receipt since I wasn't provided one, because the place had to internet, I even had to pay them by a bank transfer as opposed to through the register since their machine wasn't working either. Also downvoted to 1 star due to the owner being rude instead of accepting their fault and apologising. Ah, of course you don't sell carrots, I just noticed that the vegetarian option is only potatoes, tomatoes and mushroom, which is even worse...

Food is expensive for simple items, but cannot fault the skill of the chef. As for the barman, clearly under the influence and made several members of our party uncomfortable. Also no alcohol apart from £5 bottles of Corona? Mad.

Went in for a drink after a hike - the place had a cool atmosphere. Sadly, only store bought produce for regular prices was available due to a “delayed” delivery issue. In addition, there is a lack of consistent pricing, as I was charged £42 for 4 cans and a wine whilst previously we were only charged £21 for 4 cans. This was possibly an accidental double up price due to an assumption that we hadn’t paid when in fact we did. However, when I tried to call and enquire about the overcharge I was hung up on. Then I asked in person and was told to email later on in the day with details instead, as he couldn’t look into it at the time. Yet, I was given no email address to use and none is available on the website. After research I managed to find an email from an old article however I have received no reply and have now left the area with no resolution :( EDIT: Thankyou for the reply! However we never left a number because we had no booking (walk in) and we did email as requested during our conversation when we came in but will call soon to resolve - thanks Jason

Jason the landlord was a very welcoming host to our large party with dogs and kids. Simple, high quality outdoor cooked food and lots of space to sit outside on a warm day. The menu is pretty meat heavy and has 1or2 options only rather than being a big pub menu so not for those who want loads of choice. You do need to book and order food in advance. He whipped a great vegan option for me.

While the pub may look nice inside, the food being served was nothing short of terrible. Burgers that were practically still alive and mouldy bread from the soup. Owner brought us extra nuts (sesame seeds) when we have someone in our party with anaphylaxis to nuts. What's worse, he didn't even realise that sesames aren't nuts. Absolutely extortionate, £9 for a warm drink in a plastic cup and about £12 for a burger that still had a pulse. What's more, the owner would turn down multiple parties even though the place was empty. Wouldn't recommend

We went along hoping the menu might have more than pizza. It didn't. The decor is refreshingly different to the Tartan schmaltz you otherwise get in the area. There is no lighting from the car park to the building which is a health and safety issue and should be resolved as priority. The pizza was ok but very dry. Personally I think all pizza should have passata as standard along with mozzarella. The barman (the owner?) kept turning the music up and 'photobombed' the blackboard menu when my wife tried to photograph it so we could check the toppings at our table. He thought this was very funny. If he was an employee rather than the owner I can't imagine this would be tolerated. We couldn't chat and got to the point of asking for doggie bags so we could leave. After my wife paid and was putting her purse away the barman grabbed her for an uninvited hug. He then marched out and challenged me to shake his hand to demonstrate that we'd had a nice time - which we hadn't. It was not dissimilar to and as pleasant as being challenged to a fight. Against my better judgement I extended my hand which he predictably attempted to crush and I had to pull away. Please don't grab people unless it's made very clear they want to be. We hardly spoke a word to you and it was inappropriate. Had we been chatting happily and got to know about your business it might have been different. Next time we're in the area we'll drive that little bit further and go to Callander to eat out.

We planned a walk round a visit to the Byre Inn as we had good memories from a previous visit. Today was disappointing as the only food on offer was a bowl of soup and some bread. They do wood fire pizza but they had finished for the day. Also there was no draught beer as they don’t get any in over winter. Four soups and four drinks for £48 felt too expensive as it was a small bowl of soup and we had to get them reheated. I would like to visit again in summer months to see if it’s better than today but it’s definitely not a place I would visit again during winter months

We stopped for a refreshment late on a Sunday afternoon. The pub garden, dominated incongruously by an old red London bus, looked a bit unloved but we went into the bar anyway. A group had taken all the comfortable seats so we perched on bar stools with an upturned barrel for a table. My wife doesn't drink and I was driving so something non-alcoholic was called for. We were told that the Byre Inn does not serve coffees or teas so as not to compete with the tearoom up the road (closed when we passed). They have no soda water tap so soda water and lime was not an option. There was no pineapple juice; orange or apple were the only choices available and the orange when poured seemed to have a small black foreign body floating in it. We ended up with two cans of Coke which we drank from the cans because the barman had not washed his hands since coming in from the garden, and then wiped the glasses with a cloth of unknown cleanliness. Two Cokes with no ice cost us just over £6. There was no toilet paper in the ladies' toilet. We drank up quickly and left. We won't be coming back.

The music was also amazing and we took our own playlists too and danced all night. Totally different, very much my friends and I type of vibe. Can't thank Jason enough for his hospitality and humour.

I’ve found the best pub in the world!!! Magical setting! Brilliant, bonkers, generous, wonderful, hosts, (Jason & Sharon)! delicious pizza! cool music! Even tho they’d lost their electricity the day before they went ahead with my birthday party, with candle light, fire pits, glow sticks and smiles, making it the most magical, memorable party I could have wished for. Everyone said it was the best party ever.

I visited here for a drink on a Wednesday evening with my husband and children as we were staying nearby on holiday. It’s a great little pub with a very friendly atmosphere. The bar manager was friendly and chatty. Sadly, it was very overpriced for a friendly local pub and standard drinks. We paid around £20 for a large glass of merlot, a pint of cider (warm Rosie Pig from a box on a bar) and 2 cans of Fanta. If it wasn’t for such silly prices we’d have definitely visited again.

Fantastic place, we were passing through as we were hiking along Loch Venachar and weary and tired our group of 5 came across this place and despite it being too late to get served any food, ... we were still offered some pizza bread with cheese, and a few snacks along with the drinks we did order! Thanks to this, we had renewed energy and managed to find our way to our campsite for the end of the day! So overall great hospitality, if I ever get the chance to return, I'll gladly do so and let them know ahead of time and finally get to try some of the delicious pizza that was being served to others around us :) Cheers from a current Horsham (..ite?) and continued good luck running your wonderful inn!

We were 4 weary hikers, soaked through and wandered into the Byre Inn to get some shelter from the storm outside. Within minutes Jason had pints in our hands and we were safely warming up by the fire. We were shown incredible hospitality and had a brilliant night there, great tunes, great drinks and even a bit of a dance. For anyone interested there is a fantastic selection of percussion instruments :D! We'll definitely come back with some more friends! Thanks guys!

Too late for food, those I spoke to said it was fantastic. Enthusiastic landlords are the best. Great for stop overs with vans.

This is a real gem, called in just to check it out & returned next day for a meal. Pizza's from the wood fired oven were brilliant. Jason & Sharon were both great hosts. Their playlist, at 5000+ songs covers every genre from 1700 onwards....

The food which we ordered was made fresh and piping hot, Sharron used her outside oven to cook a fantastic pizza and mouth watering steak. Jason entertained us with the upmost professionalism that after he allowed us to stay in there car park we decided to stay three nights the place was that unique If your visiting Scotland and want a warm welcome, a relaxed atmosphere cracking delicious food come here Thank you Jason and Sharon and good luck We will see you in November

Two nights staying in the hotel this restaurant is attached to, so two nights eating here! Firstly on the way we tried to phone to ensure we got a table, the phone rang and rang but was unanswered, tried for over an hour. Mentioned it when got here “we were too busy”. First nights meal was ok but noted the menu was “tricky” bit precocious if anything and I actually said to person with me that I hoped it would be different menu next night. No it wasn’t so then I opted for the trusty steak with £11.95 surcharge!! If there is going to be a surcharge of that magnitude the dish needs to be good, it wasn’t in fact it was atrocious, tough, badly cooked and presented pathetically. The wait for some mustard just added to the frustration. Unfortunately I like staying at this hotel so no doubt will have to eat here again…..although I’d rather not, Hilton it’s time for a change please

Very good offer and tasty. Not just fries as side dishes. Service is very nice.
