Lovely clean restaurant with great decor and lovely views. Efficient friendly staff. Beautifully presented breakfast at a reasonable price.

The location is gorgeous and restaurant impressive looking inside. Our group had booked the private room within the larger room so it was easier to chat with each other. All great so far but tbh the food experience was nothing like what it was last time I was there. As a vegetarian I find that our choices are never that exciting anywhere but what was served disappointed greatly. The starter of cauliflower bites were over cooked and hard but the main course was very pricey for what I had. Vegetable fajitas is normally a safe choice but I had onions and peppers in a sauce ( not a single other vegetable included) , presumably the same sauce that normally has chicken, prawns etc added. There was a huge amount if this on the plate but I left most of this and nobody asked if ok when I clearly hadn’t eaten much! I would have thought a restaurant of this standard can do better 🤔 The main event for me was the Affagato ( you can’t really go wrong with espresso and ice cream can you? ) Sorry Cawley, not impressed ( have been to Langbank restaurant and loved it!) but this was just not great for the cost!

This restaurant never disappoints!! The food and the service are truly amazing. We had fish and chips, it was fresh and so tasty - the batter was light and crispy 😋 The decor is beautiful, just stunning and it’s such a welcoming restaurant. All the staff are so attentive and are so friendly. Until next time River House!

Nice spot for breakfast. Lovely ambience and delightful cuisine

So disappointed. I ordered the salmon poke bowl but there was no salmon in the dish as the waitress had made a mistake. Not immediately obvious as the bowl is very full and I thought perhaps the salmon was mixed through the dish. My husband ordered the Sunday roast ... even after asking for a steak knife he could hardly cut the meat or tge broccoli stems ! When he did cut it it was too tough to chew. The 'creamed mash' listed turned out to be powdered and very dry. Staff were very sympathetic and did reduce the final total but it wasn't the experience we had hoped for ...

Have been looking forward to going here for a long time, and have eventually made it today!! So disappointed in my meal! My husband had a starter, but I'm not a big eater, so decided to save myself for my main course. After he had finished his prawn cocktail, which he really enjoyed, we waited about 40 mins for our mains. Someone came over after about 25 mins to apologise for the wait, but only said there was a hold up when asked what the problem was. When we got our food, my scampi and chips was only just warm!! I told them, and they said they would change it for me. My husband had finished his by the time I had got mine again. The scampi was exactly the same again, and the chips were over crispy, and I struggled to cut them with my knife, never mind bite them. My husband hates complaining, and doesn't like me to either, so when asked if it was OK, I just said it was fine. By this time, I was too hungry to care anyway! The scampi tasted nice, it just wasn't hot which spoilt it for me. I certainly wouldn't recommend eating here to any of my friends/ family, and even though the place itself is beautiful, with a lovely ambience, and the staff were polite and helpful, the food and drinks are quite expensive, and you would expect it to be much better than it was for what you pay!

We arrived for breakfast and were really impressed with how beautiful the restaurant is, the decor is fantastic! Unfortunately, the food is not. 5 of us ordered different items from the breakfast menu and all I can say is that the food seems like an after thought. The Vegan fry was awful, black freezing cold soft avocado, Tofu scramble that was just pieces of tofu warmed up. The Benedict’s had under cooked poached eggs and pancakes that were cold and clearly bought in. I am just so incredibly disappointed, £70 for what was one of the worst breakfasts I have ever had. As this was the first time we visited the River House I am unsure if this is the normal standard….but doubt I will be back.

Enjoyed a fantastic evening meal here this weekend been here many times for lunch when passing so glad to get chance to visit for evening meal whilst staying down this way. All four of us enjoyed the food it was served quickly and tasted amazing. Beautiful place with gorgeous decor, first class!

In a time & world where people like to criticise & complain, I would like to say how impressed I was with our visit tonight to Riverhouse. From the initial chance phone call at 7pm to book a last minute table, to when we arrived at 7.40pm, Laura gave us tip top high class attention.. Laura was polite, familiar enough to make my 78yr old mum & I feel welcome, comfortable and nothing was a problem.. The individuals who served us were also courteous & attentive without disrupting my wee but rare night out with my mum. Tonight was a well oiled routine that showed the establishment at its best.. Hugely grateful to laura who shone bright in her career choice, that can be difficult, with long tiring hours. Well done all front of house. Food was yummy too. Thankyou Claire Harrold

I got fish and chips the fish was cold in the middle,I got another one and it eas the same so I never bothered complaining about the second one,I actually expected something off the bill,I will definately never be back

I ate a couple of times in this place for work, a truly beautiful and evocative place on a lake. Very good food, generous portions and well prepared. Exceptional service, compliments to the staff because they made me feel at home, very kind and always very helpful. Congratulations, if you're passing through these parts it's worth a stop! We had breakfast here before visiting the castle, the service and atmosphere were very nice. Food is delicious, portion size is very good as well.

Lunch with friends on Tuesday - first visit for us. Great menu, lovely friendly staff, busy & good atmosphere. Extra car parking nearby.

À very nice venue, from the outside in, everything is very swish. We arrived at the wrong time but luckily they were able to change our booking. The staff were very friendly, super organised and efficient service. The menu was great. I'd also like to thank the couple at the table next to us who offered us their half drunk bottle of wine that that couldn't finish that was a very nice gesture. Overall had a great dinner, the place was animated but not too noisy given the layout of the rooms.

I’m so impressed with River House. Called in on Friday night on the off chance they had a table.. The service was absolutely spot on, completely faultless, all waiters and waitresses were so attentive and happy to accommodate. The food was sensational, everything was so well cooked and presented. The restaurant itself is situated in such a lovely location (especially in sunny weather). The decor inside is so modern and cosy. I will absolutely be coming back for a 2nd visit on my next trip to Inverness.

Although a lovely place it a pity I couldn’t say the same about the food. I had the tempura prawns to start with, they were like rubber and the parts that had the batter on was hard as nails. My husband had the black pudding stack which was ok. We both had macaroni for our mains, it was terrible there was no flavour and tasted very watery I left some of mine and my husband left half of his, absolutely no flavour and to charge £15.95 for pasta is a joke. Definitely won’t be back it was very overprice for bad food. Very disappointing

Lovely setting and friendly staff but quite frankly possibly worst food I’ve had in my life. Near inedible. A special mention of the broccoli - not fresh at all and no seasoning whatsoever. The poor stems were dumped in a pot from the pan, totally overcooked. Poor quality ingredients not cooked with care. Awful. The best was the basket of bread with olive oil. What a shame, could be a gem given the beautiful decoration and setting. Prices are absolutely ridiculous for the quality of the food.

The site is located next to a small lake, and is spectacular, with many rooms. We went on a Monday and it was packed. There is a lot of variety on the menu, don't expect great dishes, but the product they use is top-notch. I recommend the meat specialty with 2 sauces. Now if you are in a hurry, this is not your place. The service is slow. You have to reserve.

Enjoyed an early dinner with good service and a nice view. Scallops tasted great and the Black Pudding starter went down well.

Glad we booked as this is a busy location. And easy to see why. Some great traditional dishes like chicken Balmoral (stuffed with haggis) and beef cheek. Great flavours!

The gluten-free menu is great. Perfectly organized, things run at the highest level here. Both fish and chips and breakfast the next day were exceptional.

we were there as a party of 5 on the 16th , all i can say is this was my worst experiance in a resteraunt , food over cooked over priced and exceptionally small what they dare to call a black pudding stack ! wont be back and would advise to stay clear if you are looking for a nice meal , the only good thing about the place was the decore , the staff couldnt of been any less interested when we told them that the food was inedible just giggled and walked off

I ordered a scone warmed up and it was was hard in the middle due to been put in the microwave too long, the coffee was lukewarm and we had to ask for another cup otherwise the service was great 👍

Friends took us here as a thank you. The venue and interior is really nice and looks amazing, This is where is positive for us stops. My starter was the black pudding stack. It sounded amazing. When it came it was a bit of scrambled egg scrapped across a plate with potato scone, black pudding and a poached egg. No care taken over presentation and also egg shell in my starter. £9. For that I would have expected a lot more. I told the server about the egg shell and all she said was ok. My friend's main course came. One person asked for no anchovies in her salad and guess what they put all over the salad? My other friend's cod was overcooked and the person who invited us had the lamb. It was so tough that he couldn't eat it and the potato's that came along with it were so under cooked he could not cut through them with his knife. All of these main course were about £17 and very small portions. Again the young man and woman who served us asked in robotic style how things were. My friend said all of the things what were wrong and why 3 people could not finish their main courses and their response was oh sorry. No manager appeared nothing about trying to make things right. It's like when someone challenges the status quo they have no idea how to deal with it or interact with customers. Again when asking for desserts it's robotic in their interaction with customers. Only what on menus and if any allergies. No smile. Just put plates down and leave. I had a bad experience years before and didn't want to come back. Our friends paid £300 for a very bad meal and customer experience was non existence. I know people rave about the place but it was truly awful and we did not want anymore drinks or coffee due to the what had happened. I hope if a manager or someone reads this you get in touch. I always write reviews when things are great but sorry last night was a horrible experience and your staff are not trained in any way to try and resolve customer experience, The thing that made our table very unhappy was also they just laughed with each other when they walked off after our feedback, Shocking.

Firstly it's very strange how there are no reviews of the River House since 2021. Has it all been so terrible? I ordered 2 rolls and square sausage, and coffee. The waitress broght one to the table. I advised her that I ordered two, so she removed that one I had and returned with one roll with two sausages in it! I advised her it was two rolls with one sausage. She took this away and returned with the correct order. The sausage was not cooked properly, so I did not eat it, the rolls were yesterdays at least. I ended up paying over £11 for 2 old rolls and butter and a coffee. On paying I advised the teller of this only to receive zero response. Wonder if this review will vanish like many others, I will wait and see.

A very nice location, easy to access and plenty of parking. Friendly and attentive staff. Some choice of vegan/ vegetarian options, but a lot of deep fried things and not the biggest of portions. What we ordered was promptly and correctly received and it was tasty. A little pricey but judging by how busy it was, people are obviously not concerned about that, almost all inside tables were fully occupied. The staff were courteous and professional and we enjoyed our meal and will be going again.

Style over substance River house is in a lovely area and is decorated beautifully. The ambiance is of that of a fine dining restaurant and the service comes close to this too. However it's a shame as the food does not match this despite the prices being so high. We got the lamb for the main and must say it was just okay, the lamb was a little chewy in bits and was not even cut against the grain to make it a bit more tender. The cod and salmon gratin was a bit too over seasoned in bits due to the smoked fish already having salt in it. Some items were missing ingredients or rather lacking in them for example the parmesan and truffle fries had the smallest dusting of parmesan and barely any truffle flavouring that we had to double check we got the right item! The highlight was the strawberry tart which I would definitely order again! However the mango and passion fruit mess had no real passion fruit in it. Overall, it is worth visiting for drinks or a coffee and a cake for the ambiance and the strawberry tart but perhaps not for the quality/taste/price of the food.

Small portions (steak was absolutely a joke: size of a Mc Donald burger), ridiculous prices, waiting time..can't be longer-😤😱 starters arrived after nearly 50 minutes since order placed. mismatched orders (chips vs. French fries), air conditioning making place freezing castle, unprofessional staff not clearing tables at appropriate times or.. bringing set of knives to.. eat a cake. And the price!🤢🤯🥸 Never come back as apart from nice look there was nothing to enjoy about.

The Riverside is a great spot for us to meet up with friends coming from the north. The decor is lovely, seating comfy, and its very clean inside. Plus there is nice view of the lake. The waiters were friendly and service was fine. I was just a bit underwhelmed with the quality of food.

Staff where friendly it's just food wasn't to good steak was undercooked as in raw but nice atmosphere and lovely place to sit in maybe don't go for steak and rest could be fine I never tried anything else .

A large group of us attended yesterday afternoon and surprisingly, although busy, the restaurant didn’t look at full capacity. Unfortunately, the service took ages and the food was pretty subpar. It took ages to order drinks and food and then the main meals took about an hour to come out after the starters were taken away. It’s a shame because my other visit was great, maybe the attention to detail has gone?

Great atmosphere, attentive service and delicious food.

Came here with my husband. The evening started well with a drink in the lounge. We then went through to the restaurant and ordered another drink along with water. We joked with the waiter when he returned for our order that we hoped our drinks would come before our food which we then ordered. Sadly this did not happen. They brought out our starters and we said we were waiting for our drinks. A couple of the staff asked if we were ok and we explained we were still waiting for our drinks and that my husbands hot starter was now cold. They took the starters away saying they would give us fresh starters. While waiting a waiter looking after a table behind us cleared the table and dropped a knife down the back of my chair, where my jacket was hanging. I stupidly didn’t check my jacket. But later in the evening when leaving I saw that it was all stained. Back to the starters. They brought the exact same ones over and to be honest they were nice. They then cleared our table and brought our mains. The waitress came with the dishes being held by dish towels and said the plates were very very hot. When we started to eat our mains I realised that the plates had obviously been sitting under the lamps for a very very long period of time as the mushrooms were hard and dried out. After eating our steaks the plates were cleared and we asked for the bill. I took my jacket off the back of the chair to find it with a stipe of sauce down the back. I said to the waiter who apparently was a manager (told us this on his return) and he said he would check with a manager. They said if I get it dry cleaned to bring in the bill and reimburse me. I wont manage that as I live 25 miles from the restaurant. All in all it was a very disappointing evening and I certainly didn’t expect the service we were given at the prices paid.

Food was delicious but the service wasn't good, we had to first ask for our orders to be taken even though servers were walking past us constantly, and then we had to ask to pay the bill as yet again they just kept walking past and we were a table of 7.

We had a pre-booked table for 2 plus a highchair. The young waiter was fantastic and let us know all about the (extensive!) breakfast menu once he established there was a dairy allergy. The food was delicious. Lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff and beautiful surroundings - pond, ducks, water fountains, walk.

Fantastic restaurant, well laid out with calming decor and beautiful setting to match on the lake. The staff were extremely accommodating and the service was very good, we didn't have to wait too long from order to food on the table with attentive staff ensuring we were all good. The food was presented well and freshly made. Excellent spot with plans to visit their sister restaurant during our trip.

I've been eating to this restaurant with family and friends from Glasgow for the past couple of years and always given the staff a 5star review in person and a generous tip. Last Saturday unfortunately it was the exception. The fries were the same as a £1.50 McCain from Tesco, the steaks were too small, the waiter offered the dessert menu before the mains were served(!),they were not trained for the food as they kept going into the kitchen to ask info about the dishes and too expensive for the quality of the food. It will be a while before we visit them again. I hope they will make some "adjustments" to the staff and cooking brigade.

The restaurant is very nice, waitresses were super nice. Unfortunately our experience wasn't perfect We had to return the burger which was burned a bit, the second try was very dry as it was done as a up front prepared food. The salad served with lasagne had sand in it.

I write this review with much sadness and disappointment. What had intended to be a nice outing for myself with some friends for a birthday meal became an uphill battle to get edible food and decent service to our table. Upon arrival we were pleasantly greeted and assigned our table with a beautiful view of an indoor cherry blossom and the lake and our drinks order was taken and a selection of lovely bread was provided as a pre meal appetiser. Next came our orders which unfortunately consisted of items which were poorly advised as seafood (thankfully we didn’t have allergies) as a seafood dish was ordered for myself which I open mindedly tried whilst my friends enjoyed their starters. Next came the main courses, which were delivered in a good time, my friend and I had ordered steak with our cooking preferences taken, what followed was utterly disappointing and quite frankly shocking from an establishment providing steak on their menu. Myself I had asked for a steak medium well which was not the case as this was well done (if it had been any more well done it would have been cremated) whilst this was edible for myself, my friend was not so fortunate. The second steak which was ordered rare came out medium well and very undersized, this prompted us to get a waiter and ask for a new steak and at the same time ordering more drinks. The steak was them taken off to the kitchen and a new dish presented, But low and behold we have the same problem but at this point my friend was just wanting to eat as hanger was setting in. Apparently, the kitchen staff have a sheer inability to cook steak to the customers preference. Next our second drinks arrived, and the waiter left us to our meal, it was a little baffling that the empty glasses from our first round still remained on the table. Upon finishing our drinks and food, we decided to skip a desert due to the sheer disaster we had experienced with our starters and main course meals, we therefore asked for the bill which was not cheap for the horrendous dinner experience we had endured. No good will gestures for the service or mistakes made, no real apology for the errors either. What had been intended as a nice evening out for a birthday meal was unfortunately dampened by the sheer lack of professional kitchen staff and waiters who has an inability to apologise or clear up empty glasses. As you can probably assume at this point, I will not be visiting this establishment in the future and would not recommend this to anyone wishing to have a pleasant experience for a meal.

Nice place, food and service and alcohol free drinks and fresh cakes. Looks amazing at Christmastime. Large restaurant with lots of outdoor seating, wide drinks and food menu. The lake and fountains outside add to the atmosphere, had decent parking when huge overflow across the road.

Food here is always excellent. Service can sometimes be a little slow but the staff are very friendly.

He launched a restaurant in Starling. The food is very delicious. Try the Thai chicken. The atmosphere is beautiful and the seating overlooks the lake. I advise everyone to visit the restaurant. Love from 🇸🇦

Love it! This is now one of my favourite restaurants despite the distance from my home (half hour drive each way) The gluten free menu options are AMAZING (the fajita tortilla wraps were bigger than my head!) although unfortunately that meant I had no room for dessert which had so many great GF options too including sticky toffee pudding! Went for lunch but stayed chatting over soft drinks, teas and coffees for 6 hours and was made so welcome and given first class service by everyone who served us. We moved outside into the sun after lunch to enjoy the views and the attentive service continued. The decor, ambience, food and service are 1st class. My only thought for further improvement would be a designated dog friendly section inside for our unpredictable Scottish weather (outside takes dogs) as this would sadly restrict my (& many other's) ability to visit.

Recently had my graduation dinner here and couldn't have been better. Staff were really lovely and welcoming and the food and drinks were fantastic. They gave me a congratulations plate with a wee macaroon which was a lovely touch. Great atmosphere

The River House is 5* in everyway, from meeting the staff to the design of the restaurant. The lovely lady who greeted as was so friendly and attentive. Menu superb, food incredible and great wine list. Service was 5* and easy to leave a tip for a superb experience. Thank you

What a lovely experience it was eating in there restaurant . I would most definitely recommend.

We went on a busy Saturday evening. There seemed to be plenty staff working but it took an age to get served. This was our second time so we could give it another go. Won’t be back for a long time. When you reserve a table they want it back 2hrs later. Sharpen up the service and that won’t be a problem. Food was quite good other than my wife had to send her main course back as it was only slightly warm. That was after waiting 50 minutes for it to arrive. Thankfully the restaurant doesn’t add a service charge to your bill as it certainly wasn’t deserving for our visit.

A nice setting with pleasantly spaced tables so not too close to other diners. This is one of a group of restaurants which brought high expectations based on experiences at the original location at Duck Bay Marina which has always delivered. Unfortunately this sister restaurant is a poorer quality relative in terms of food and service. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular - we had a table of 7 eating a variety of dishes and the feeling was mutual between us. The most disappointing thing was the service, which was frankly bizarre. It was well staffed in numbers, plenty of people on the floor but observing rather than actually doing anything. It took an age to order items (even the bill!) and no attempt was made to clear plates despite it being obvious everyone had finished. It could easily have been better without much effort. We worked out around £40-£50 per head for food and drinks including wine, so not in a hurry to return based on this experience.

Sorry my experience was that food just made average and OVER PRICED. Service took an age.Two courses took over 2 hours Some examples. Mackerel starter was a small piece of mackerel with a blob of sauce and some dried up vegetable. Crispy tempura tasteless, Pate was like it came straight out a supermarket. Main courses Tacos soft limp with just over a tablespoon of meat. Meat and sausage pie was ok if that's all you wanted.Once again 2 carrots about twice the length of a finger nail,dollop of spinach and 3 teaspoons of mash! Wished I'd left after starters. Surroundings very nice but sorry, for the prices being charged you are wasting your money. (Unless you don't care) Go for a beer and look at the Castle.

Good food, excellent service and a very lovely atmosphere.

The River House is a lovely looking restaurant set in very nice surroundings. We recently visited their sister restaurant (Coast) and enjoyed it very much. Both are very similar in decoration and feel. The meal was a mixed bag - starters were nice and the pasta main was fine. The rib eye steak was extremely not nice. Seemed like very poor quality - it was a limp gooey bit of meat for £33. Requested medium rare and to be fair some of it was. Some of it really wasn’t and I think it still had a heart beat! (see picture). I only part eat the steak but the hand cut chips were also under cooked and inedible. The waiter was apologetic and said she would pass my comments onto the kitchen. Total bill (no alcohol) came to £95 which was very poor value for the quality we received. Kitchen was busy and maybe quality control wasn’t the priority (although for a £33 steak I would have thought it should?). I’m glad we tried the River House to compare with the excellent Coast but we definitely will not be back.

Pretty restaurant with good service but mediocre food.

This is the second or third time we have visited, the food and service is always excellent and the location is beautiful. Definitely planning to go for a meal one evening.

Nice looking place but terrible staff. Had to ask for water multiple times, steak was undercooked and all they offered to do was throw it back on the grill… then it came out missing sides that were previously on the plate. Waiter proceeded to ignore us for the rest of the experience and did not acknowledge us when we left.

Any Cawley restaurant gives value. Fantstic ambiance from the front of house, this Stirling one had Aaron, very respectable young man, very polite & respectable great welcome and set the experience for our afternoon meal.

I only used the facilities but I was impressed with the the whole restaurant and especially the young lady who met me as I entered. I will eat there. 💪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙🤠

We were a party of ten who have previously dined at the restaurant and always had a fantastic experience made all the more enjoyable by the lovely/pleasant staff, but this visit could not have been more different. Staff persona and attitude was appalling, facial expressions and body language suggested most of them did not wish to be there serving the paying public , which may I add pay their wages. Shocking !!! Really sad to see this is the type of culture that is being allowed to flourish in such a lovely restaurant otherwise . Overpriced cakes & blank coffee, nice premises lovely staff ,

The place is beautiful. The service was not really good. Our order was lost, and we received not what we’d ordered. The food… well, chicken was dry, salad not fresh, bao bans tasted like from the supermarket sale, the fish was drowned in a too rich sauce, you couldn’t taste the fish - only oil. You can eat it, but no pleasure at all.

Went for breakfast and was not disappointed, food was very nice good quality and arrived on hot plates, staff very attentive.

Waiter dropped off our Coffee without asking if we wanted sugar, All Sugar is in Cubes piled in a Bowl which is great but not one table had Sugar tongs so you have to pick out your sugar by hand this is the exact same thing as the old Peanuts at the bar scenario and the bowls are used by multiple clients each day so who knows if someone has washed their hands or not before diving into that bowl of sugar lumps, Avoid. On a good note Coffee was delicious

The River House is such a beautiful restaurant. Sadly the service and food do not match the price tag. It’s just way too hit and miss to be charging those kind of prices. Don’t get me wrong, some of the food is lovely. Take the fish dishes for example… deliciously light, fresh and tasty. However, £24.99 for a Thai Beef Salad that is simply an average Beef Salad is outrageous. The Veg Tempura starter was tiny… like really tiny… yet the kids meals were big enough to feed a horse. The kids drinks were served full to the brim in a tall glass… a recipe for disaster for a 3 year old. It just makes no sense! Service wasn’t terrible but there were so many waiting staff standing by around doing absolutely nothing. Clearly training is limited and slap dash at best. We must have had no fewer than 8 staff waiting at our table. Madness! I really, really enjoy the setting at The River House but I’m simply not prepared to pay for average food and sloppy service.

Great restaurant for food and good variety too. We were in a group and food and drinks were in good time, despite being busy. Some of the staff were evidently new, but everyone was kind and helpful. Beautiful views from the window and lovely restaurant itself. Will definitely be back

Having been at the castle we asked a stuff member for a recommendation for food and they suggested river house , the most important thing to talk about here should be the food and it was amazing really but also the vibe and look was beautiful and has to be seen and felt ,but what really makes it special are the staff, they really bring their best for the restraunt ,I was so impressed by them firstly and everything else ,so you can have the best food which it really was but without the right staff it loses something....river house have got it all , well done .

What a lovely experience at Riverside house. Stunning interior and decoration, outside seating arrangements and separate Bar, absolutely amazing!
