River Bela Cafe in South Lakeland

We missed this cafe last time we came to visit as we came on a Monday. Open Tuesday to Saturday. Lovely surprise cosy cafe with friendly and courteous staff. Good choice of food on the menu and very reasonably priced. Food of choice Leek and pea soup with granary bread, cheese and onion Quiche served warm with side salad and chips. Both offerings homemade and the Quiche was delicious. Thank you so much thoroughly enjoyed, great to find you open, we will be returning in the future.

We were looking for somewhere to stop for a bite to eat on our way up to the Lakes. We came across the River Bela cafe and certainly weren't disappointed! A lovely little place with friendly hosts and delicious food. All this and dog friendly too, which is a must for us. We had the lovely home baked, hand carved ham sandwiches. On the way back home 2 days later we couldn't resist calling in again, this time for a lovely cooked breakfast - scrumptious! We will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

This is a gorgeous little cafe that serves good quality food at reasonable prices and always with a smile. We stopped here whilst on our way to the Lakes, and we are so glad we did. We both had breakfast consisting of bacon, sausages, eggs, beans and toast. Really good quality ingredients that were cooked perfectly. As we got chatting with the lovely owner, she told us the long history of the cafe, which was very interesting. There is parking front and back of the cafe. We will certainly stop again when we are in the area.

Called in today for an impromptu lunch- what a find!! I’m a lady of simple taste so i couldn’t not have the double egg and chips, hubby had a Brie and cranberry sandwich on lovely fresh granary bread. Two cappuccinos to drink- just perfect. Beautifully cooked food, in a lovely little eatery, super friendly hosts and quick service I lived in Milnthorpe for 10 years so why has it taken me this long to discover this little gem?!! Already planning a return visit! We both have our eyes on the homemade quiche next time!!

Excellent service and food - could not ask for more from a cafe. We had lunch and it was perfectly cooked and beautifully served. Lovely couple running this cafe. Great value- we will be returning to try the breakfasts. Far and away the best value in the area. Excellent thank you !

My hoomans came here for lunch. Puppies were welcome so I came too. I sat quietly under the table whilst they scoffed their food. Puppy treats were on offer for well behaved pups so all wasn’t too bad.

Called in for lunch and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely homemade soup served with bread whilst my partner had a banoffee muffin which he said was delicious. Puppy friendly too, so even better.

Great spot to enjoy some good simple food and a cracking cup of tea. Cakes can be fantastic. The people who work here are a delight.

Really nice experience here this afternoon catching up with a university friend. We were really happy with the food and especially the prices - exceptional value for money. Had a good craic with the (presumably) owners once we were finished who seem lovely! Whilst im not local, I’m often down in Milnthorpe and will make this a regular stop off.

Usually go for breki which is excellent the eggs benadict is to die for. Had a lovely lovely lunch garlic mushrooms with dip, egg and chips and Christmas pudding. The owners are sooo lovely helpful and friendly. Lovely views of the countryside

We called in on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Wasn’t sure if dogs were allowed but pleased to be told that they are also welcome. Lovely food and reasonable prices which we thoroughly enjoyed. Would highly recommend, especially if you have a dog. Lots of places say that dogs are welcome but you can tell they are just tolerated but this cafe really means it! Will definitely be back.

Absolutely fab! The best poached eggs I’ve ever had and excellent value for money! It’s so rare to get eggs cooked just right, firm ( not rubbery white and lovely soft yolk). Thank you

Great cafe for lunch. Very friendly service. Food and drinks of a good quality. Do bear in mind this venue closes at 2.30pm which is quite early.

Stopped off for breakfast on my way through milnthorpe. Lovely cafe, very dog friendly, they even cooked my dog a sausage! The food was really nice, freshly cooked and very tasty local produce. Definitely going back there.

First time at The Bela, although we had been when previous owners in charge. New owners friendly, place clean (love the rabbit and hedgehog wallpaper in the toilet) and prices modest. Food well prepared and plentiful. Would think there is nothing to choose between anything on the menu - it all depends how hungry you are.

This is a lovely little cafe. The couple that run it are wonderfully polite and attentive. The food is tasty and very reasonably priced. I highly recommended

Called in to this lovely cafe for a late lunch. The owners made both us and our 14 month old retriever very welcome. The food was very tasty and even young Humphrey was supplied with his own little bowl of biscuits

My husband and I with Bill the Border terrier love love visiting here there is nothing to fault this wonderful place, wonderful food, wonderful company, visit and you’ll see what I mean !

Great food at reasonable prices, freshly cooked and always served with a smile. Spacious well laid out seating arrangements while still retaining social distancing.

This is a lovely cafe run by two lovely people. The menu has enough different items to take this above the normal cafe fare whilst still being homely. The prices are good, the surroundings are comfortable and scrupulously clean and they have the best salad dressing I’ve ever tasted! It’s dog friendly too. Great place

Called in for a drink and cake, ended up having a light lunch and drinks and cakes to take away. Excellent food, service was exceptional. As a relative local will be back. Highly recommended and all the best in your new venture

Newly opened but they are very friendly and cook food when ordered, Only a small place on main road but well worth a stop. They are clean and covid rules are followed. The choice of menu is great and something to suit everyone. Brilliant

Travelled a long way to meet up with friends in Milnthorpe. Had a wonderful lunch inc delicious cakes and coffee. Our dogs were welcomed, and staff were very friendly. Food was served promptly, and nicely presented. Will definitely call in again.

Lovely breakfast, especially loved the bacon, and relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Easily able to safely distance and access friendly toilet. They also provide for dogs and have water bowls and blankets. Lovely view across to Dallam Park and close to Milnthorpe. Impressed so definitely adding...

We visited this morning for breakfast and it was delicious. The cafe looks lovely and is very tastefully decorated. It has a good menu and the service was brilliant. We can't fault it and will definitely be going again.
