Somewhere in the cool Icelandic waters of the Atlantic, a ship has set sail, thrashing through the churning spray. The captain of Blaengur is a steely man, with a beard as white as Captain Birdseye's. Men race around, winching up haddock. Others weild axes, hacking at the tentacles of the giant squid, which curl around the railings and the equipment, threatening to drag the ship into the icy abyss. 'More speed! We must outrun the squid! The fish must arrive fresh by morning! They must feast like kings!' he yells, barely audible over the roar of the ocean. The reply screams over the intercom from the engine room. 'I'm giving it all she's got captain!' Just as the last net of haddock is landed on board, a giant squid heaves out from the water behind the ship. Its tentacles unfurl, revealing a hellish circle of teeth, around a cavernous mouth which could grind the Blaengur whole. Just as the tentacles are whipping towards the back of the ship, it gains enough speed to slip away into the night. Meanwhile, at Ritz fisheries, they have a taste for perfection. They understand that good fish and chips takes hard work and dedication to the craft. And above all, they use quality ingredients. Every bite of their fresh haddock, is steamed to perfection inside a crispy shell of batter. As you feast, you are humbled to taste the sheer determination that has brought such quality to your fork. Every fisherman from Blaengur willing to risk it all. Every farmer who toiled on the land to bring the earthy taste of a freshly dug Sagitta potato. Its all in evidence here. From the flaky, snow white haddock of the Blaengur Special, to the crispy but soft potato of the scollup, every bite will melt in your mouth. I really don't fully know how they do it, but the team at Ritz is ideal. Service is astounding. They know your order from the moment you walk in. I'm a regular, and they always know what I want before I order it. They're friendly, they're chatty, they make you feel as welcome as a friend. Is this the best fish and chip shop in Leeds? Yes. Of course it is. Go, and don't be disappointed.

We have tried with fish n chips. Fish was really good l, chips I didn't like because it was very thick and not that much crunchy.

Always rammed because the fish and chips are lovely , I got the light bite and it's fairly filling and affordable . One suggestion is calling the shop before if you're in a rush

In Leeds Ritz has such a great reputation that people cross the city to pick up a fish supper. Not only do they tell you the name of the boat that landed the fish, but the variety of spuds that the chips are made from. Super Beuno!

I'm a regular customer, I have chip shops closer to me but am willing to travel further for the quality and atmosphere and service at the ritz.

Been going to Ritz for nearly 60 years and have never been disappointed with quality of food. For the first time, however, I decided to try the scampi. Now I have high expectations as my favourite scampi is served at the Wetherby Whaler and is pure scampi and delicious. I was hoping that Rirz would be the same. I was really disappointed to find out that it is reformed. I wont be getting scampi from here again, but we will continue to buy everything else as the standard is so good. I love the fact that you get a few chips even if you dont order any! The service is always spot on and I do recommend to everyone. Probably don't order the scampi. Maybe it's just me with high expectations.

You can't fault this place. Fishcakes that are made from fish,, gorgeous too. Good size portions at a very fair price. Great tasting fish n chips.

Without a doubt the best chippy around. Never had a bone in the fish, its never been cold or soggy or anything bad. It's genuinely been bang on every time. Love the lite bite deal as well

We always get the fish bite childrens meal , that is more than enough for us , I love the scallops too but I'm going to have to stop ordering them alongside the meals because we were just soooo full , I have been using Ritz for like over 10yrs and I have never had a bad meal served from here , will keep coming back !

Top taste and quality in the area of Wortley(Leeds). Equalled only in Whitby, Brid, Filey Brighton, Blackpool, Hastings and Scarborough (that I remember).

Ordered a few times and never a problem. However tonight after ordering through Uber eats it took an hour to arrive. When they did come they were cold and soggy and inedable. Ended up throwing in the bin, was a complete waste of money. After this terrible experience I wouldn’t use Ritz or Uber eats again. Plenty more places local to go to

Used to do lovely fish and chips here but sadly quality and portions are not what they used to be. Fish small and batter hard tasted like it had been reheated. Chips ok but very small portion . Sorry disappointed used to be so nice .

Always had a good word to say about ritz, however the last 2 orders I've had have not been up to the usual quality, and with missing items, first time it was the children's meal the bottles of pop missing and the fish gujons were actually just hard crispy batter, I put it down as a one off because I've never had a problem before and left it at that. Today the quality of the fish just wasn't there, the batter was soft and soggy and a bag of chips was also missing. I phoned ritz who basically said there's nothing we can do about it and didn't really seem that bothered, offering no solution. I asked what i should do next as I had paid for items not recieved I was told to contact Just eat. I asked who was at fault ritz or delivery company they said ritz, and the person who made up the order, but yet the responsibility was with just eat, who eagerly appologised and gave me a refund! I guess its just a sign of the times, company's taking your money and not delivering the goods, and poor customer service! Lesson learnt!

Bought fish and chips and disappointed second time .Not that much tastier, not fresh,may be they are reusing the old items! Decided to stop buying from there.

This was the Best chippy! I’ve been going here since I was a kid and it was always brilliant. But last 2 weeks the chips are just bland and dry. The fish is still nice but the main reason I come is for stuck to the bag fish and chips. Can you just change back to the old chips as I'm seriously considering not returning and I must have been coming here for the last 20 years.

Possibly THE worst food I've ever had. Asked for sausage chips and gravy. I received a sausage so coated in batter most of it had flaked off over the chips and soaking in grease. Despite asking for gravy they gave no tray to put it in and sent it in a tub. Total waste of time going here. Will not be back

Shocking!! Almost £16 for two of us. Fish was still raw and watery, chips must have been sat there for hours. We had to re-fry to make sure the fish was cooked. Staff looked disgusted that we dared to walk in 30 minutes before closing time. Had to repeat our order 3 times and still forgot one of our items! Used to be such a good chippy. Never again.

Horrific! After ordering a special it was assumed that's all I wanted, after being told the price three times yet my order not being finished we did get there in the end. Once my order was finished I was left with many parcels and no bag, then after asking the fish was shoved into the bottom with large chips on top. The fish cake was missing completely, the scraps were one scrap cake with a nasty centre of burnt scraps. The batter on the special was only just cooked and 5mm of slime underneath and the special itself was a saddleback which was also only just cooked and slimy in-between. Nothing special. I'll be trying another fish shop next time. Previous review, Sometimes busy lunchtimes. Just a sign they are doing a good job. Visit often and enjoy every time.

OMG my husband has said this is the best chippu as he goes here with work been shopping in leeds today so we called in. When looking at the chips I want impressed but as soon as I took a bite it was beautiful. And the batter was crispy. Will be calling here a lot more now. The curry sauce was thick and not lumpy like most chip shops it was the best I have tasted.

First time I’ve been here. Went just before closing time on Friday evening. They had sold out of lots of things, which can only be a good sign! We had fish and chips. They were amazing. The fish was so crispy and there were loads of perfectly done chips. We love approx a five min drive away and they were still really hot and crispy when we got them home. Highly recommended. Staff were lovely too. It’s really modern and clean inside and you can pay by card. Well worth a visit. Can see why they’ve been trading since 1933!

Closest chip shop to me and the best in the area. They have put a lot of effort into making it covid safe. The quality is outstanding. Opening hours could be a lot better though. They close very very early. I wish they'd stay open till at least 9pm but unfortunately they're always closed by about ten past seven. Great place.

I was really pleasantly surprised with this place. This is the first Fish and Chips I've had in like 4 years and I wasn't disappointed at all! The portion was great, not a crazy amount of chips like I know a lot of places do. The fish was realllly perfect, wasn't too oily and I just really enjoyed it! 5 Star Fish and Chips, surely must be the best in Leeds

This fish and chips shop doesn't need a good review from me as the reputation precedes it as being brilliant. They have also adapted to stay open through the pandemic, by offering delivery or a socially distanced queue and 1 customer at a time in the shop, good menu and beautiful fish and chips every time.

Best chippy in the World .. Specials are amazing. Lovely white flakes of fish with mushy peas ...normal fish are great too... try a fish butty with a handful of complimentary chips.. wife is from down south and she was amazed by the portion and and quality.

used to use this place all the time and the food has gone down hill. They ask customers to ring up and order to help then and I iunderstand theres a pandemic at the minute. So being respectful I called ahead and placed a order. The collection time was set for 6'o clock. Arrived at 5 to 6 to stand outside while they fulfilled orders for other people. Not a problem there. Then finally get inside 25 mins later to have a bag of food passed to me that has been sat on the side for god knows how long and it to be cold. God awful service will not be using them again.

Was a nice fish. But chips wasn't the best. Plus was given a very small portion. Was a long wait. Around 20 mins. To spend 5.95 on a small portion off fish and chips.

Chips was only few in the box mean only 8 but fish and cake was good but with money they charge they should put at least more than 8 chips in box

I’ve lived in Wortley/Leeds all my life, and traveled all over the country with work, but yet can’t find a fish shop that comes close to what this fish shop has to offer. Makes me proud to live in Leeds, it’s that good lol cheers
