Nice little fish and chips shop, great value I got 10 halloumi sticks which were quite big, a regular fish and chips with peas and a drink for £16. The staff were very nice and friendly as well. 10/10 restaurant/take away

Where do I begin ? The food was lovely and such good value for what you get. I got the jumbo sausage and chips for £4.50, it was delicious and very filling. I also tasted the halloumi sticks and they were amazing too, not too greasy and not too dry. The staff were lovely and polite, fast serving time considering they had only just opened. The inside of the takeaway is clean and is nicely decorated. 10/10 would 100% recommend ! :D

Great value for money,especially small fish and chips between 11.30 and 14.30 for £5, there's enough to fill you.

Fish is good, chips are poor and hard, various other options but strangely there are no pies. Prices at the high end of fair given it’s city centre. Service is slow but friendly.

As usual pathetic customer service and no drinks with meal deal! What is wrong with you people?????

Updated review: try on the new menu after refurbishment of the shop. Not bad. I would say the meal deal is not so worthy if you are student. Buy with discount is better. Old reviews in year 2021: Life is not easy. Keep happy and have a nice fish and chips takeaway.. The fish is from the sustainable fishermen. The shop is playing pop music with stylish film posters and stars photos.

Lovely staff, good portions, good prices

Had my first proper UK fish and chips here. Lovely little restaurant, very friendly staff and good atmosphere. Generous portion sizes, very affordable prices. It might just me, but the order ended up being a little too oily. Other than that it was good.

Lovely fish and chips with large portions. The young lady serving was very engaging and pleasant. We wish her all the best in completing her degree despite the long hours she's putting in here.

The best fish and chips in Leeds hands down!! The freshest fish Amazing portions. My boyfriend happily finished mine as I can never finish a meal deal! You definitely get bang for your buck and the staff/owners are so friendly and down to earth. We are now regulars!!! Enjoy x

Poor customer service. Had to repeat my order 3 times, then got it wrong. Ordered meal deal and never got the curry sauce with it. The portion of chips was alot smaller than usual. Staff weren't listening or paying attention.

I do love this place but for the first time ever from this shop the chips was not cooked properly and was hard but the fish was so fresh and nice 👌

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time and very reasonable prices

Me and a friend visited here at lunch time. My friend got classic fish and chips and I decided to try a few other bits. I ordered the 5pcs wings, 20 chicken poppers and spam fritter. Taking into consideration that this is primarily a fish shop, I was still left feeling very underwhelmed by my order. The batter was very thick and greasy and very minimal flavour. Although the wings looked big underneath the batter there wasn't much meat on them. The fish and chips were average but nothing anything to rave about and didn't leave you eager to come back. I will say the portions are very good and reasonably priced but certainly not an elite fish and chip shop. Or ye mate

Absolute disgrace. Chip butty not actually assembled, just a bread cake (heavily saturated in margarine) and chips separate, found a hair in said breadcake, scallop inedible, chips were very poor. For the price they're charging, this is below substandard. 24.57 including delivery. Beyond a joke. Do yourself a favour and never eat from here

Sadly not good. The quality of the food is variable - ok one day then horrible the next (e.g.. hard, chewy chips, savoury stuff semi cooked and/or very greasy, such as sausages and fishcakes etc). They unfortunately can't seem to get payment methods right- e.g order on line then 30 mins later say they couldn't process it. And often you turn up to pay with your card and it's cash only. Too unreliable for us I'm afraid 🙁

Me and my life partner just ordered fish & chips each from here, all I can say was the chips were lovely and soft with a slight crunch, the fish was massive!! Highly recommend to anyone!!

The best fish and chips in Leeds. Freshly cooked in front of you. Crisp, light batter. Spotless, clean store. Fantastic old school decor. Never had a bad meal yet, or anything even approaching it. More expensive then your local chippy, but nowhere near outrageous. 7 quid gets a medium portion of fish and chips with a side. Generous portions, too. Please note, however, there's not many free parking spots nearby - apart from the multi-storey carpark next door that charges by the hour.....

Has reconciled us with fish and chips after a 1st experience elsewhere. Fish was melt in your mouth good and the chips were golden and crispy. Playlist in store was also great! Even after a 10min walk home in -2c weather, the fish batter was still crispy and everything was as it should be, piping hot.

Lovely fish and chips, poor service, rang through my order, gave them my name while ordering only to be told by the not so pleasant gentleman that I had not ordered from there, got back into my car then the lady came running out and told me that I had! Still waiting for an apology from the rude gentleman frying the fish and chips, ordered two meal deals and a bread cake £14.70. Got home opened my bag, one portion of curry sauce and one portion of not so nice mushy peas , I ordered two meals! No drinks either which was supposed to be included in the meal deal. I will not be making a second visit and will be taking my hard earned cash elsewhere, customer service does matter.

Great fish and chips! Staff were lovely and didn't take too long at all. The shop itself is really fun to be in, very nicely decorated! Definitely enjoyed the food and the portions were great and pretty standardly priced. Mushy peas maybe need a bit more salt/flavour though!

People that work here have the worst attitude they do not deserve your hard earned money. The food looks rank there was some macaroni cheese like thing on display that looked revolting. Never seen such piss poor service ended up walking out after 10 minutes of trying to give them benefit of doubt and trying to order. Do yourselves a favour and go to Graveleys in the core instead.

We tried last week and they were shut. Tried again today (Thursday 7pm) and they were shut. Shambles. No way to run a business.

Ordered the meal deal for it to not come with fish and told they won't deliver the main part of the meal that they forgot to pack. Stuck with just chips and gravy and having to order from elsewhere to have an actual meal. Won't be ordering from them again.

Virus situation accepted, but how it’s supposed to be in amongst the top fish and chips in Leeds I do not know. Thick hard batter and fish average, chips okay, but not Fried in beef dripping! Reminded me of an average Southern fish and chip shop. Will not be returning.

The best fish and chips in Leeds! Cooked to perfection. Crispy batter, thick pieces of fish, not the scragg ends like in some fish shops. Excellent value. Highly recommend.

Read loads of reviews on this place so was really excited to try it. Ordered a fish & chips & a separate fish. The fish was really dry & thin, as if it had been cooked ages ago, also I asked for curry sauce but they sent mushy peas - I haven't had fish & chips without curry sauce for probably 10 years so it completely ruined my experience even with the bad fish. A £20 order on my girlfriends birthday, which slightly dampened the night but never mind, you win some, lose some. Wont be ordering from here again which is a shame because would have got a lot of business from us had it been nice.

Very nice food. Curry sauce is the best! The team up with the chilli shop around the corner is good too and the Carolina reaper salt is really good.

Very disappointed. The fish hadn't been in the fryer long enough and was seriously soggy. Paid £12.49 for a large fish and chips. Really wasn't value for money

The actual fish itself was lovely, the chips were ok, it was just a bit greasy, spam fritters took me back to my childhood, all in all not too bad

I visited hook and line and was looking forward to my meal. The service was fantastic. I ordered a starter of halloumi chips and a main of fish and chips. The starter tasted funny like it had been cooked in some old oil. When the main course came it looked great but on tasting it, it was inedible as all you could taste was some very old oil which they must cook everything on the menu in. I only ate the bread and mushy peas my partner didn’t eat any of it. Avoid at all costs.

Went to this place for the first time for a fish butty. Not impressed there was hardly any fish just all batter and the bread was full of grease from the fish

They do a really good dinner offer that works out at really good value. The portions are HUGE and we've never been disappointed with our fish and chips!

First time purchasing fish n chips the staff weren’t particularly friendly especially the Asian female rather brusque. I did not enjoy the fish esprit was not very big and encased I’m thick tough batter the fish was chewy it gave me the impression they had re fried the food they didn’t sell the night before. How else can the tough batter chewy fish be explained? The curry sauce was mediocre to say the least. Only redeeming features were the chips chunky fluffy tasty. Will not be returning as £7 for stale fish is just not acceptable simple. Wish I’d stick with my original choice and never gone here!

Wish this place would of been open on the Sunday when I arrived. I went Monday lunchtime. Really good chips and gravy and an amazing pie wish we had them at home. Good price recommended

Chips were lovely but that's about it the batter on the fish was too thick and stodgy and as for the mushy peas they were like cement !

Absolutely fantastic tasting fish and chips with a wide range of sauces and vinegar. Large portions so you will definitely be full, albeit sometimes it gets a bit bland eating that many chips. I'm sure everyone would rather more than less though, right? Amazing quality, and crispy fish. Just make sure not to keep it sealed in the box for too long as it can get soggy as with anything so hot and freshly made when you cover it. This place is honestly the best you're going to get in Leeds and definitely one of the best in the North East. My first visit to Hook and Line was around April 2019. I've been back plenty of times since. I first heard about them after they won multiple awards for fantastic quality fish and chips. I can definitely recommend Hook & Line. They are my Go-to for fish and chips.

I dont really like Fish & Chips but Hook and Line are fabulous. Fish is beautifully cooked and homemade tartare sauce delicious

Called here Friday night, what a gem, fish and chips perfect, plenty in large portion, should have had a smaller one but I'll know next time. The owner ?? so helpful and friendly, his range of vinegars are worth calling in for, little seats inside...

Really nice place. Super friendly staff. Brilliant chips and the different flavours of vinegar are really interesting. The fish was awesome. If i had some constructive criticism: the batter could be a bit thinner and the fish a smidge fresher, then it would be one of the best in the country. As it is this is one of the best in Leeds.

massive thank you for staying open last night, We rang last night to see what time they closed and mentioned that we were at the Direct Arena and we wanted fish and chips on the way home, they stayed open a little longer so we could eat. We all agreed the food was gorgeous and we will definitely be eating there again and also we will recommend Hook and Line to anyone going to the Arena to eat there :)

My son and i came out of Leeds Arena after seeing Mark Knopfler to see that the fish shop was still open , brilliant ! , we went in and they were playing Dire Straits music , very nice touch we thought , we ordered...

Not very nice, had better fish and chips from elsewhere. We will not be going there again and also we got served by a miserable man. If he doesn’t like the job he is doing then maybe he should give it up.
