Ristorante Al Mare in Arun

Don’t usually do reviews but had to post about the best pizza, great selection, served really hot, just delish!!!

We found this wonderful little restaurant by chance. Having headed to Ferring for a long awaited walk along the beach we discovered the Bluebird had closed early so googled somewhere local to eat. Ristorante Al Mare popped up and we called ahead and booked an outside table. So glad we did - the welcome was so friendly, we were seated next to friendly locals [carefully distanced of course], the menu was excellent, the wine selection perfect and we enjoyed Breads with balsamic & olive oil, olives, a delicious starter of local crab with pear and watercress, followed by a spinach gnocchi dish and Tuscan sausage spaghetti all washed down by a delicious Verdicchio. The cheeseboard spied across the next table looked rather special and we were too full to sample the desserts. We shall definitely return!

Had another delicious lunch here at Roberto’s lovely restaurant. We both had bruschetta and then Husband had Robi’s lasagne which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had a pepperoni pizza. Washed down with a nice glass of moretti beer.

We started with calamari which as usual was delicious. We followed with a little taste of Christmas in a pizza (Christmas Calzone). Alas no room for a desert😢. Finished with freshly ground coffees. Nice atmosphere as usual and looking forward to our next visit.

Excellent service with a warm, friendly welcome and Roberto's food was top notch as always. They made our daughter's 21st a very special evening. Thank you for making a wonderful large cake. See you soon x

The food was excellent, as was the service. It was our first visit and we have every intention of going back, it was a really nice evening. Try the calamari, I generally don't like seafood, but ended up eating some of my husband's calamari as it was so good. The pizzas and lasagna our part had were delicious too.

Went for lunch, reasonably priced, lovely staff, fantastic pizza’s, will definitely use them again. Good range of traditional Sardinian cooking as well. Home delivery as well.

We were a party of 8, 4 Adults and 4 children. All our needs were catered for. The staff went out of their way to please. Food cooked to order, we had a mixture of veggie pasta dishes and both the fish dishes on offer...and child friendly Bolognaise which was not on the menu but the chef happy to make. All the food was delicious. COVID friendly distancing, hand sanitizers etc. Highly recommend.

This place is lovely however it is quite small which there is nothing wrong with but I would not recommend sitting outside as there was no outdoor heating. The staff were lovely especially the young girl she was so kind and accommodating! You may be wondering why the rabbits well two of our party ordered lasagna and we were disappointed to find most of the meat was in fact carrots instead with the side salad we ordered which also included a lot of carrots however it was still nice but we were slightly disappointed but the waitress we had was absolutely lovely thank you for making the evening up from 1/2 stars to 3.

We’ve had a few pizzas delivered during lockdown. They have been delicious and piping hot. Best to pre arrange a delivery time as they have been busy.

On two occasions now, we have enjoyed takeaway pizzas from Ristorante al Mare. My husband loves the prawn with chilli and garlic, whereas I go for a ham and mushroom (not listed on the menu, but they kindly do it for me anyway). The pizzas are really delicious, lovely pillowy crust and tasty toppings. The delivery is free to East Preston addresses and I think this is an excellent service during lockdown. I hope lots of locals support this venture.

Welcoming family run restaurant. Cheerful staff but most of all excellent food. Well worth visiting.

Just ordered a pizza with their new delivery service. Arrived in about 20mins, pizza was hot and completely delicious. Was incredibly happy! I had the prawn and chilli pizza and the prawns tasted fresh and where still really juicy. Will definitely be ordering again.

A delicious 50th birthday lunch was enjoyed by all 7 of us. Roberto’s dishes are superb - the sea bass special was so very tasty. The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, the attentive service and the personal touches all added up to a lovely and memorable experience. Thank you so much.

I have no idea where Roberto gets his ideas from but I'm so glad he does. Had a fantastic rabbit ragu - where else would I get to eat something like this? Fantastic food well cooked. Great new winter menu which is worth trying. Can't wait to go back next time we are in the area.

Had a great relaxed night, The hosting was great, always is, the food was superb, and Roberto comes and asks how your food/experience was. Another loverly evening.

Just had our first visit at this charming restaurant for lunch today and it won’t be our last. We enjoyed delicious food and wonderful friendly service by Bruno junior and senior. So lovely to find a local family run independent Italian restaurant that does everything exceedingly well. Looking forward to trying out their evening menu.

We’ve been all over the World and we didn’t expect to find this hidden gem less that 10 miles away.One of the friendliest restaurants we’ve been over the last few years, run by a local family and with food that matches the service.Fairly priced and reasonable selection of wines, good location, comprehensive range of Sardinian produced mains which you’d want to try all.Tip; book early, ask for what’s the favourite of the week, be courteous, leave a tip. We will be heading back soon for their themed nights.

This is always our "go to" restaurant when we are staying in Rustington - so much so that we visited twice in three days recently. They only open for prebooked parties on Sunday lunchtimes and this time there were two parties booked in inculding us. Food was spot on as always and Roberto is always willing to alter things to individual tastes. He also shared one of his secrets for the perfect lasagna - if you want to know you will have to eat here and ask him yourself. For the second visit we shared two desserts which were wonderful. Very rich but full of flavour. The winter menu will be starting in October and we are looking forward to trying some warming Sardinian soups and stews. Did I mention that they are dog friendly too? What more could you want??/

We enjoyed our lunch at Ristorante al Mare in East Preston - I especially would recommend the starter of "Octopus thinly sliced & marinated, served with garlic & chilli bread" - wonderful. The dry white Vermentino Sardinian wine went particularly well with the meal.

We had been meaning to visit Al Mare for some time and being within walking distance from home it is really handy & convenient.

Have to give this restaurant 5 stars as although it was quite simple with a small menu, it was quite delightful and very reasonably priced. The service was excellent and the food very fresh and beautifully prepared. Definitely worth many repeat visits.

Just had the most wonderful family lunch. The flavours were incredible and the staff were so accomodating when it came to the children. Friendly, warm family environment. Definatley recommend x

Another great meal at this restaurant, but this one cooked by Ben as his dad has a bad back. He really is a chip off the old block and shares his fathers passion for food. I love the pizzas and the attention to detail with little additions which really enhance the flavour of the quality ingredients. My only criticism was the limited number of desserts but thats just me being greedy. If I want a decent meal out in the area this is always my first choice.

A great restaurant with freshly cooked food that was excellent, very friendly staff with great service & atmosphere. First time we have visited but will definitely be back again and highly recommend it

Four of us went for a meal here on a Saturday evening and nice to see it was busy. I hadn’t been to the restaurant for over a year even though it’s local to us and we should visit more after a lovey meal. Nice simple Italian menu and all freshly cooked, pleasant staff and reasonable prices. The four of us ate two courses each with drinks for around £110. I hope they continue to do well and maintain these great standards.

We were a party of four lunching here today for the first time. We all thought it was truly excellent.

We booked here for a family party- 14 of us and the place was almost full! We had a three year old, and a teenager amongst us, and they were both welcomed and well fed- exactly the 'none of this and plenty of that' requests. The adults were well pleased with the food, which was truly delicious. The pasta in particular was highly praised- 'best Italian outside of Italy' said one.

Was passing through the village and spotted this tiny Italian restaurant. It is like having dinner in the front lounge of an Italian family. Service was wonderful and informal and the chefs son who is also front of house was confident and very relaxed with first class service. Food was first class and very homely and full of flavour. Found this wonderful, truly authentic Italian restaurant (by chance really) & what a find. Food was delicious, lovely staff, great service & atmosphere. So pleased we found it! Will definitely be back again & highly recommend it too!

Went to their Sardinian evening with friends and had a fabulous feast and time. For starters we had a mixed antipasti platter, to follow smoked fish, to die for, and a fresh seafood salad. Followed by a classic Sardinian pasta dish of Mallardusu with Bortagga. Excuse spelling!! If that wasnt enough we were then served the most scrumptiuos meat platter of pork, lamb and Sardinian fennel sausages with roast aubergine and fennel!! To finish Sardinian biscotti soaked in Mirto liquer!! It was a feast and accompanied by a white and red Sardinian wine. It was a great evening restaurant full and buzzing highly recommend. All of the food is cooked fresh. For a local italian it is absolutely delicious and great place to enjoy an intimate lunch or dinner with friends and family. Great value fixed price for the Sardinian night.

Delighted to find a good choice of seafood on the menu, we chose the clams and were not disappointed. They had been sourced locally and we could taste the sea. We hadn't tried fregola before but found it ideal for absorbing the sauce. Would definitely order again.

A group of us went to this restaurant with 5 of us choosing a vongole dish for main course. We had asked what type of pasta and been told it was Sicilian style but we had not been told it was more like pearl barley than pasta and very odd, more like a baby food. Worse though, was it had no flavour at all and so much grit from the clams it was like eating something off the beach. All four of us who had left literally the whole bowl and yet not once were we asked if there was a problem or how our meal was.

We celebrated my wife's birthday with over 20 of us gathered around the table and we had a fantastic evening!

We went for a family meal and received a warm welcome. There was a good selection of Sardinian wine and delicious food. The homemade Gelato was divine. What a gem of a restaurant !

Lovely family meal. Always a pleasure, extremely friendly service. Well worth a visit, Family run business, only criticism would be when ordering say a lasagne it would be nice to have it served with a salad!

We visited with friends that have recently moved to the area. The service was very friendly and the food was freshly prepared and delicious. The restaurant were also very happy to take special requests ahead of our booking. We pre ordered eggplant parmigiana, which was fantastic! We ordered more than we could eat, so we took one home. We also tried the lamb , Sicilian pasta and Carbonara dishes. All were excellent quality with generous portions. We washed it all down with a couple of bottles of red wine. We will definately return!

Went as a group of four . Food was absolutely superb. Fresh and tasty. Service was friendly and informative This is one of those places you want to keep to yourself.....but it is only fair to share it!!! Rustic informal charm with delicious Sardinian food

We eat here a lot for lunch & evening meal. I do wish people would use it more at the weekend especially as it is a joy to have an Italian restaurant in the village. So pet & family oriented. Staff & owners work there so always a friendly welcome. Great menu & pizzas fab.

Tried this restaurant for the first time to celebrate a "big" birthday. The restaurant was not full but even so it had nice atmosphere and the service was very good.The food was of a good standard and as the owner is Sardinian very traditional and authentic. There were 6 in our group with 4 of us having pizza's and the other two the swordfish which was the fish of the day. They had both visited Sardinia and said it was every bit if not better than similar dishes they had enjoyed there. We had a very nice bottle of wine which I think was Sardinian and the cost would not break the bank. After our meal the owner and chef came out to chat to us and explained that all his ingredients are sourced locally and especially his fish and seafood which is always bought fresh on the day. He can also cook special dishes on request as long as he has at least 24 hours notice. All in all it was a very good lunch and we will certainly be back. At £20 per head for two courses plus drinks (wine) etc.. we thought it very good value for money. Recommended.

Fantastic food with a fantastic host. This is a really warm and friendly restaurant which I will look forward to returning to - by the amount of regulars (all known by name) I won’t be alone. Food was amazing! Especially recommend the lasagna but everything looked good... we especially enjoyed the fact we weren’t rushed at all. The staff were warm, friendly and very attentive. Would definitely highly recommend!!

We came here for my sisters birthday. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was busy and a nice atmosphere. We were a bit disappointed with the portion sizes of some of the meals that came to our table. My husband had the veal and whilst it was very nice it was also on the small side for the price charged, he had hardly any sweet potato on his plate with a small serving of veg with it. Myself and parents had the lasagne which whilst it was nice it was quite runny(the sauce) and there was not garnish with it which was disappointing. When it came to pudding we were all very disappointed as there was only one cheesecake left on the menu and the ice cream. My self and my dad had chosen the Ice cream only for one of us to be served one scoop as the ice cream had run out!! My sister didn’t fancy the sorbet and that was the only thing they said she could have which was gluten free. To then find out when my mum was about to eat the last cheesecake that my sister actually could of had that. I find it really disappointing that a restaurant runs that low on puddings especially on a Saturday evening. Apart from those things mentioned we did however have a nice evening.

My last review in 2016 was after the restaurant had just opened. A recent visit showed considerable changes, all for the better. And my grandchildren, hungry teenage types, loved it too. We were impressed that the place was full on a Thursday night, although we did visit in holiday season.

Great Sardinian hospitality and rustic but great food. Ben was a terrific front of house host. Don’t be fooled by his youthfulness - he knows his food, wine and his own Sardinian culture and is happy to share. Certainly recommend this place but best advised to book as it’s not that big and is quite popular

Not just the Pizza's, Roberto does other things also, the Calamari is delightful, the pasta superb. A small family run Italian restaurant offering informal dining in a relaxed setting with a good wine list to enhance the ambience!

We are a family of 4 (2 adults / 2 children (9 & 12y) and were down in East Preston for the weekend. Looking for a local restaurant that was within walking distance from the Premier Inn hotel, we stumbled across this little gem. We called to book and Sam, the owner, was very accommodating, saying that she had a large table arriving shortly after our requested time and to arrive promptly.

I have been to Ristorante Al Mare on two occasions recently and I must say both the food and friendly service here are second to none.

My dad and I ate here yesterday, whilst waiting for my son's football match to kick off. What a lovely welcoming place to go! The service was immpecable and we soon got chatting to the other diners. Our pizzas were outstanding. Will definitely return when I'm over that way again.

Spotted this lovely little restaurant by chance a week before Valentine's Day and decided to book for the special evening. A wet cold evening but the warmest welcome you could wish for. Small and personal, a real find for a special meal or just a mid-week treat. Special inclusive menu for Valentine's Day meal - Prosecco on arrival, a heart shaped biscuit iced with our initials, three courses and coffee for £60/couple. The food was excellent. Very fresh, very hot and very tasty. The personal, friendly and attentive service was also excellent. As we left we booked for a birthday meal. Plenty of nearby free parking.

Amazing fresh food, quiet place to enjoy some quality food and relax. Staff are very welcoming and would say you can't get better food in east Preston. 10/10 would recommend.

Sam and Roberto are very welcoming and will always try to accommodate any custom requests. We regularly visit for the home made pizza's which are awesome. It can sometimes take a little while for the food to arrived but this is simply as everything is cooked to order fresh and well worth the wait.

It had been a while since i had visited and so pleased i did. The calamari is the best ever...

We had a lovely meal served by very attentive staff . We found the food to be very good and, (in our opinion good value for money). we feel that the negative comments left by an earlier customer to be very unfair. I am sure that had any grievances been reported to Sam and Roberto at the time would have been sorted out there and then. We have always been treated with care and respect, and although due to the size of the kitchen, the choice may not be as big as some other restaurants, they try to accommodate people needs in a very relaxed and happy manner.

We were recommended this little Italian restaurant by one of the local "Inns" we stayed at. I had a vegetarian pizza which had a lovely thin crust with lots of flavour in the fresh toppings. My wife had the sea bass main course, which was perfectly cooked...melt in your mouth tender!!! The staff were really friendly, always smiling and able to offer good advice on their menu.

During our first holiday in beautiful East Preston we discovered Ristorante Al Mare and made our first visit on a damp and chilly Tuesday evening. The weather soon became irrelevant once we had been warmly welcomed by the owner and his son. What is not to like :) - although not the most inexpensive Italian Restaurant we have ever eaten in, it is true what they say "You get what you pay for"!!!The entire experience was faultless including pleasant surroundings, good wine, fabulous food and exceptional prompt (without being rushed) and friendly service.We rarely visit the same restaurant twice in a week (especially when it is such a good one that we may be disappointed) but this was the exception. In fact we booked for our last evening and the experience was just as good. Although the restaurant was quite busy the welcome and the service from Sam (if i have remembered her name correctly) was quite simply outstanding.Being just two of us we suspected the large table might get the most attention - this was not the case!!! Sam treated us as though we were the only people there and even found time to chat about the food and life in Sardinia.In summary, I cannot praise this restaurant and the staff more highly and, when we return to East Preston, Ristorante Al Mere will be our first port of call :)

If you like genuine Sardinian or Italian food you will do no better than Al Mare .... Friendly and welcoming.

My partner and I visited the restaurant recently to be greeted with a warm welcome the food served was top quality and very generous portions we will be going back soon for another great evening out I would highly recommend this quaint little restaurant in east Preston

Have visited a couple of times and never been disappointed. Can recommend the pizzas Very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Had my 5year old with me this time who is quite fussy with food but the staff were very accommodating. Will definitely be back.

Wonderful atmosphere in this very friendly Italian Sam and Roberto make you feel at home as soon as you arrive even if its just for a coffee and Sams great Brochette to dip in it.Wonderful menu if you want more.

Genuine Italian food, pasta and pizza plus "catch of the day" nice wine selection reasonable prices and very good service, no frills just honest good food and very pleasant waiting staff, the owner makes several appearances from the kitchen when staff are busy and serves you direct. Easy nearby parking, an overall very nice experience.

We recently ate here on a Thursday evening on the spur of the moment. The restaurant has a great 'feel' to it, friendly and welcoming. The menu is smallish but very comprehensive. The food was excellent from the bread and olives, fish starters and the main course pizzas through to an Italian cheese board. I could have eaten just about anything from the menu so return visits are assured. The staff were superb and it felt more like home than a restaurant. We have since returned to sample the breakfast which was just as good as we had anticipated. Italian food cooked with heart and served with warmth and pleasure. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were very helpful, service was fast with delicious pizzas, there was a good variety of nice dishes on the menu and the overall dining experience was amazing.

Went to this restaurant today for lunch, first time diner. Had a wonderful Chicken Alffredo, really tasty. Very reasonable - other diner had seabass which he thought was very good. Starters were also excellent. Definitely go again, bigger menu in the evening I understand. Lady host was very friendly and gave us loads of info re food and whe the chefs influence was from (Sardinia). Chef also came and said hello.

We love it here - the food and service are fabulous and it's great value for money. Whilst there is a reasonable amount of choice you'll enjoy it more if you like fish. Calamari is scrumptious

Me and the wife fancied some Italian food so decided to pop into this restaurant as we had met the owners on a previous occasion luckily we live in the village so it's just a short stroll up the road for us. It's a lovely little quaint restaurant and the service and the food was exceptional we both had a great night and will certainly be returning next time we need a Italian fix. Keep up the great work and see you both again very soon

Roberto is a real Sardinian, cooking food as authentically as he can in East Preston. It is tough for him, because the ingredients available are not quite Sardinian and he doesn't have enough covers to cook everything fresh, so my aubergine starter was very hot on the outside but slightly cool on the inside. But he does cook very well, and my 3 lamb cutlets were pink as requested, quite delicious, sitting on a generous helping on plenty of herby mash. The pizza breads are good fun with various toppings and make a change from baguette. The wine list was well chosen, fairly priced and mostly Italian. Water was provided, free, and the waitress was truly charming, and chatty too. As his reputation becomes established, I expect everything to improve, and I shall keep on going regularly because he's the only restaurant in the village which offers home cooked non-Asian "slow food" which is fresh and authentic.

Last night was the first time I have been to this restaurant and it was amazing. I went with a couple of friends and we each had the pizza deal (pizza + drink for £9.99) and the food was just beautiful! The pizzas came out very hot and obviously freshly made. We each had a different pizza and were all very pleased. It was such a lovely and relaxed evening and the lovely waitress was extremely good. She was very polite and funny. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be going back!

Just love this little Italian in the village! The new menu is fresh and tasty...my choice the scallops followed by Roberto's hand made pumpkin ravioli, scrumptious!! As always the atmosphere is relaxed and lovely, and staff attentive. Can't wait till next time. Keep going we love you!!

This wonderful little restaurant gave us an authentic reminder of our many Italian holidays,The food is excellent and the service is second to none.

We called on last night to their pizza and drink night. Amber was our delightful waitress. We had a lovely night and the food was good. Will go again soon to try something elseIt felt like we were going to Italy. Very personal and not sophisticated but so charming. I am sure this will become a successful business

What a great little place this restaurant is. As soon as you walk in and sit down you feel your in a small part of Sardinia. Great staff felt very welcome from the first until last moment. Food is amazing, fresh and made to order, I had crab spaghetti and it was one of the best I've had, calamari as a starter was amazing to. Good quality wine went down well to. Can't wait to return and try pizzas.

Sam and the other waitress gave us a warm friendly welcome on a busy Saturday evening. Service was attentive and prompt. We both had pasta dishes which we enjoyed. This is a good local Italian restaurant in the heart of East Preston village. We've heard their pizzas are very good, will try them on our next visit.

Lovely family atmosphere, very friendly. We enjoyed a 3 course evening meal of king prawns and garlic pizza bread followed by the salmon with penne pasta then delicious ice creams! After visiting places in Worthing, myself and a friend were looking to grab a bit to eat for lunch. We walked in the door at 1:45pm, the place looked like it was just about to close but after asking if they were still serving ther answer was YES. The daily special of Seafood Risotto was wonderful and the limon mouse was mouthwatering. Nothing was too much trouble, even thought we were the only ones eating. Thank you and we will be back again.

This has recently moved from part-time, shared premises locally. It is Italian and the menu is primarily pasta and pizza. It lacks atmosphere and the service can be amateur. The food is disappointing, especially the pasta, which was cardboard -like and bland. It was also only lukewarm and had to go back to be reheated. Several items were 'off' so dessert choices were limited. To use the toilet, customers have to exit the restaurant and walk around the back. We wanted to give Al Mare a try when it moved to its own premises, but we won't rush back, sadly.

Visited with my husband for a lovely quiet dinner and made the best choice of my life when I ordered the Streaky Italian pizza. I have to say I'm a huge pizza fan and have never tasted anything as good as this - and I've eaten a few pizzas in my lifetime! True homemade Italian pizza to die for. Can't recommend it any higher. I'm in love ☺

We had a very nice lunch in this 9 table small Restaurant with 2 additional pavement tables. The menu was inevitably restricted, but this meant that every dish was freshly prepared and delicious. Roberto, the proprietor was very friendly and extremely helpful.. The good, clean, bright decor took one straight to Sardinia. Maybe the chairs could be more comfortable and the room a tad warmer, nevertheless we had a lovely meal and can recommend this fairly new establishment, and expect it to thrive.Recommended

Nice place and the staff very friendly in this little Italian. Menu quite restricted but the food that we saw looked nice. A bit pricey for the area and the cost soured the night the experience did not warrent the price. Chairs a bit uncomfortable after a while but on a whole it was a nice night out. Booking on a saturday night a must as it was full by 8pm all be it there was only 8 tables.

Still the best pizza outside italy!! My boys love a margherita!! Can wait to sit outside in the summer with a glass of prossecco and Robertos fish salad!! Yum yum

Second time I go to ristorante al mare, and it didn't let me down ! Oh God how good was the food, spaghetti vongole DIVINE !!! well accompanied with a bottle of Sardinian wine and lovely atmosphere. Best food in the south coast !!!

Had a birthday meal for small group of friends here. Made to feel very special by staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Food great in a lovely atmosphere. Birthday cake scrumptious. I wish this local business every success in its new home.Sandra

Considering it is a small menu 2 of the starters were not available. Cans of drink were put on the table slow service. Calamari starter was very bland. No finger bowl with the garlic prawn starter. Seafood pasta only had mussels in it. Creamy salmon penne was swimming in water. Pasta was not fresh which you expect in an italian restaurant. No pepper in the pepper mill. Very disappointing experience.
