The website was misleading- stating they had a seafood restaurant. The promotional video showed a trawler fishing for lobster and crab!?! But none on their menu. There was only one fish choice ‘fish of the day’? Served as fish and chips! I could not recommend this Pub/BaB/restaurant. I booked and paid for two nights but only stayed for one.

I called in 'on spec' on a Saturday early evening and they were able to seat me. The food was absolutely delicious; pork belly, followed by an ice-cream and Amaretto based dessert. Top quality food, well worth the price. A good selection of ales too. Highly recommended.

Did not stay here but visited lunch time after a long walk. There were three of us and I ordered two sandwiches to share. A slow cooked hoisin belly pork with crispy cabbage and a local beef and cheese. Both came with a little side of beautifully cooked chips. Big door step slices of good white bread. They were not cheap but we all agreed that they were the best sandwiches we’ve ever had. Well done Rising Sun.

Started to worry when the bar area smelled of dogs and fish. The restaurant was cold and tired. The tables in need of a coat of varnish. The room musty smelling. I do understand it's a listed building, but it could be so much better with nice candles/flowers I had viewed some excellent food photos on the website, unfortunately this is not how it is....The staff were uninterested and didn't know anything about the wines that they served. A smile and a warm welcome would not go a miss. The menu is the restaurant is slightly different to on line. Some of the same dishes, but in a more basic format without the extra touches that made it stand out. My terrine was starting to curl up at the end and the foccacia? a peice of toast. The cravettes were overcooked and difficult to peel, mushy at best. The Thai chicken was boiled chicken thigh, that was grey and tasteless. Even the feta salad was bland due to the ice cold tomatoes, cut into large chunks. The Dover sole had the consistency on wet tissue, completely overcooked and we gave up eating it as it wouldn't come off the bone. The fish and chips and the burger were average. Overall, a special night out it wasn't and over priced. The position overlooking the sea was lovely, though, but feel they have probably become complacent due to other good reviews, location and being listed.

Beer was very good, brought to table, full glass. Food, however, was 'meh'. £20 plus 10% service charge for indifferent fish and chips. Weird upselling of cauliflower cheese with the carveries - why not just include it?

We remembered this place from a previous visit but it was disappointing this time. They seemed to have run out of most of the roast dinners on Sunday, and even on Monday a lot of the main dishes had run out. The food we had was lovely but very limited choice.

It was a nice big room, but it smelled very musty/musty (like in a damp basement). Parking is problematic because only public parking is available and there are a lot of tourists in the place. Worst breakfast of our 6 days in various hotels in Cornwall.

Bad Experience - we had high hopes for this restaurant but it is just not executed well. Ordered the Bread board, olives and tomato salad for starters. Half the bread was hard and stale, and the other half looked like it hadn't been baked enough. The tomato salad which was £9.95 for not even a whole tomato with 2 croutons, it was also so overloaded with poppy seeds and it tasted awful. The Pinot Grigio Blush, I was served was really cheap quality and looked more like a Zinfandel. I did ask the Waitress to check but she advised it was the correct wine although the bill did say House Rosa so I'm not sure it was the right wine. Dinner arrived and my husband's burger was fine, I had a fish dish that was more like a curry but was offered chips with it, there was no rice. Nothing was served well and whilst the meal tasted pleasant, I really didn't want a bowl of basically soup for my main meal. Added to the fact, we waiting 45 minutes to pay the bill and that was only because my husband went and found someone we could pay. Understaffed, inexperienced and just not cutting it as a decent restaurant. We also spoke to another couple leaving the restaurant and they had also had a bad meal! I would give it a miss and go somewhere else, we won't be going again. Unfortunately it probably gets by with holiday makers having a one off meal, as you won't go back if you lived local. It's ashame as it's a good location.

On the basis of having read good things about the restaurant we booked a table for 8pm. We arrived 15 mins early but we were seated. Weren’t asked for drinks at that stage but given menus. When our food order was taken we ordered gin & tonics to be followed by a bottle of wine. We also asked for water. Our starters turned up but no drinks. Eventually we had to ask for the gin & tonics which arrived when we had almost finished the starters. At no point did the wine or water arrive. Food was ok - my wife had lobster but no one offered crackers hammer or small fork so she really struggled to get access the meat in the leg. Overall a really disappointing evening. When we asked what had happened we were told the drinks order when from the restaurant till to the bar till but would have had to be picked up in the kitchen and waiter and bar manager both thought the other was dealing with it. God knows what the service would be like at the height of summer Would certainly not recommend

A party of us went for Sunday lunch for a Birthday celebration. We all pre ordered beforehand. I ordered the Dartmoor pork. On arriving at the restaurant the menu stated it was Cider braised pork belly. I confirmed with the waitress that i had ordered Dartmoor pork as i didn't eat pork belly because of the fat. She confirmed it would be Dartmoor pork, my meal arrived a long with the others, and Pork belly was on the plate. I had to ask for it to be changed to the only other option Sirloin of beef. When the plated dinner arrived it looked plentiful and well presented. That's where the positives ended for the mail meal. Beef was inedible for me, i could not cut the beef, had to tear it apart ( another guest also had the same issues ) absolutely tasteless. The only other part of the meal with any flavour was the roasted parsnip. Needless to say i will not be retuning to the Rising sun anytime soon!! On a positive note, the sticky toffee pudding was deish!

My partners starter of scallops was very small for the price of 13.50 and his main course was advertised as “ whole plaice” but when it arrived, the fish was so small it resembled a dab !! This was not reflected in the price which was 27.50. We shared a coconut rice pudding dessert, but the rice was undercooked. My food however was much better, the beetroot starter was delightful and battered fish nice & crispy. I must also mention the saving grace of the restaurant, which was CHELSEA our waitress, she was superb and handled the service and customers in a fantastic manner.

Lynmouth is basically closed in winter, but The Rising Sun restaurant was open. We ate in the pub part as it was quiet, but gradually filled up with locals and visitors. The barman was on his own and did a terrific job of taking the food orders, serving food and serving behind the bar. I had the roast pheasant and my husband has the Appledore plaice, both were perfectly cooked. For dessert, my husband had a selection of sorbets and I had the newly added to the menu crême caramel and was so glad I did - highly recommended! It was a bit pricey compared to where we live, but we were very satisfied customers.

We’ve been going to The Rising Sun for about 7 years and it has been held in high esteem since the first day we visited. Now under new ownership we were keen to see if the charm of the place still remained. Thankfully it did....

Great food, great service, staff were lovely too! Highly recommend. If you want to treat yourself have the crab starter, expensive but boy was it good!

We were looking around for somewhere to have lunch and were so pleased to find this place! Friendly, calm atmosphere and welcoming staff. Nice decor. Wide range on menu. Partner and daughter were delighted with their ‘full English’s’ and I loved my chicken ciabatta. Great portion sizes and well priced. Food was good quality and nicely presented. Happy to recommend!

Wonderful place to stay in a beautiful setting. Richard and John were both lovely genuine people, we had a fantastic time learning to fly fish with Richard. The accommodation was excellent. Look forward to our next visit!

We didn't stay here but had an evening meal. It's a quaint little pub that ticks all my old codger boxes. A good choice of ales and wine together with pleasant staff and a friendly atmosphere. What's not to like? Perhaps our meal, which was a bit of a mixed bag. I think their strength is the pizza judging by its popularity. The wife thoroughly enjoyed hers but my chilli con carne was a bit thin and lacked flavour. Not a deal breaker but then my dessert arrived. It was a banoffee 'thing', and all I could do was laugh. Skye, our lovely waitress, was so apologetic for bringing it out. You need to see the photo. Unfortunately it wouldn't give you much faith in the kitchen. Despite this we had a pleasant time and the pooch enjoyed lying in front of the real fire.
