We stopped off for a drink and snack. Clad we did. Good choice of toasted sandwiches, pasties and sausage rolls and cakes. Teas and coffees to pick from too. What I liked best was that it was roomy. You weren't squeezed in and felt relaxed. Nice place to sit and chill and chat.

Disappointed because we had read all the good reviews, but this wasn't for us. Sadly lacking in atmosphere, it was quiet and had an empty cafeteria feel. Decor needs jazzing up, plain grey walls and a bit of wood might have been trendy previously, but now very much lacks cosiness. There were a few small pictures on the walls for sale, but they were not enough to add style. Its very large inside and needs the space breaking up a bit, maybe separate into sections, some booths or more comfy settees? Coffee itself was fine but not the greatest really. Service was pleasant. Toilets, though clean had no soap in dispenser, which in my book is a major error, these should be checked regularly, especially in these covid times. Sorry, but won't be back.

Don't be deceived by the outside, once inside the space is huge, with a range of vintagey unmatching tables and chairs, and mirrors and pictures on the wall, giving it a lovely chilled atmosphere. Great coffee and cakes, and one of the few places that still have a loyalty card system where you get a free coffee AND a pastry after you've bought so many drinks.Always very efficient but friendly staff. The best coffee shop in North Devon in our opinion, and they still let you pay in cash if you want to.A few tables outside too if it's a nice day.

We only came across this by accident, as we haven’t been in the town for a while. Thought we would stop for a coffee, but wow what an amazing selection of sweet and savouries. Pasties, panini, cream teas, anything you could possibly want! Friendly service, attention to customers and apologies for waiting, although it was about 2 minutes! All the food is locally sourced where at all possible. If you come to Barnstaple you must visit.

Dropped in for a coffee fix. Friendly staff, spacious, clean premises in the style of a modern chain, such as Costa or Starbucks. But it's not a chain--it's (take a bow) an independent! And they served me a mean Americano with whole milk. Applause! I'd only just arrived in Barnstaple, and it got me off on the right foot with this impressive town. Looking for a coffee? Go here.

It's hard to find an independent cafe to work from. Most places are too small - or aren't set up - for remote workers. Brew House is remarkably gracious and happy for me to order a latte and work - without feeling guilty about taking up a table. There's lots of space, high-speed (reliable) internet, great coffee, and friendly staff.

Really nice shop with a friendly a chilled atmosphere. Stopped in for a drink and a snack to kill a bit of time in the morning. Potentially the best coffee and hot chocolates we have had locally. Very keen to go back for another visit.

I came in on an average Friday lunch and it was great the iced coffee is really nice and strong and refreshing change to the normal weak on branded coffee like the likes Costa and Starbucks. The panini I had was the garlic chick & tomato one and the garlic butter in there is to die for! It goes great with the tomato inside aswell just ugggggh! To die for! As it was going so well I went up for a 2nd round of food AKA desert growing outwards not upwards if you know what I mean! The caramel flapjack and salted brownie are heaven on a plate! I was served by a lovely black haired bearded gentlemen the first time who was very professional and happy! The 2nd time by the older gentleman, more of a silver fox man! Again amazing service overall and they brought it to my table for me! To summarize overall a really good experience and will return again!

Visited Barnstaple whilst staying in nearby Appledore with my husband and our dog Archie. We were attracted by the sign saying “Dogs Welcome” and the lovely smell of pasties. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Plenty of room with a homely feel and a nice range of different seating areas to suit all. Large tasty pastie with a lovely side salad. Attractively presented coffee. Reasonably priced and lovely to find a decent place for a sit down where our furry friend is made welcome too.

Not very friendly customer service. Rude, ignorant and not very happy. Also, tuna & cheese panini should really have red onion on the label if it’s included!!

Excellent service, coffee and cake. But observation of the staff I saw a dish cloth reach the floor and then used to wipe surfaces and crockery!!! Bit of a let down.

Good friendly service and very helpful. I returned as good selection of drinks. Only downside when customers are told 'that's alright' as if we are asking the earth A *you're welcome 'or similar would be more appropriate.

Everything about this place was amazing! Food tasted great and staff were very accommodative (had a toddler with us). Nice little corner of toys too to keep the little ones busy.

Started to worry when the bar area smelled of dogs and fish. The restaurant was cold and tired. The tables in need of a coat of varnish. The room musty smelling. I do understand it's a listed building, but it could be so much better with nice candles/flowers I had viewed some excellent food photos on the website, unfortunately this is not how it is....The staff were uninterested and didn't know anything about the wines that they served. A smile and a warm welcome would not go a miss. The menu is the restaurant is slightly different to on line. Some of the same dishes, but in a more basic format without the extra touches that made it stand out. My terrine was starting to curl up at the end and the foccacia? a peice of toast. The cravettes were overcooked and difficult to peel, mushy at best. The Thai chicken was boiled chicken thigh, that was grey and tasteless. Even the feta salad was bland due to the ice cold tomatoes, cut into large chunks. The Dover sole had the consistency on wet tissue, completely overcooked and we gave up eating it as it wouldn't come off the bone. The fish and chips and the burger were average. Overall, a special night out it wasn't and over priced. The position overlooking the sea was lovely, though, but feel they have probably become complacent due to other good reviews, location and being listed.

Great location, great food and super lovely staff. Good value for money too! A lovely dining setting and still family friendly. We visited with our 10 month old baby and they made us feel really welcome and was lovely with him.
