Weekday evening here, a very welcoming bar area with open fire, staff very polite and efficient. Good choice of food with a set menu plus ‘a la cart’ as well. The food was really lovely, and reasonably priced, along with good choice of drinks from the bar.

Lovely evening in the Bar last night. Best meal I’ve had this year and the chef really nailed veggie flavours. The goats cheese ravioli was super yummy and the panacotta pretty awesome too. Camped overnight which was also super convenient with electric hook up and hot showers. Just need better weather next time. We will be back

We had been 3 ti.mes before the experience we had last week. We had always been in the resteraunt but this time 5 of us was put on a tiny table in the corner of the bar..lt wasn't comfortable leaving at all.The staff were friendly but we asked for water 3 times and never got it We had been raving about the pub to our family but this time we were disappointed. We were going to book 20th Oct for an occasion but have de cided to go somewhere else just in case. We will come again but on our own. Such a shame as we loved it before.

Very disappointed. My husband and I visited last night to celebrate his birthday. When making the booking I advised them that he has a serious sesame allergy, which was acknowledged and advice given by our server before we ordered. My husband’s steak was cooked to perfection and his meal was delicious overall. I had ordered the catch of the day which was Monk fish. I was served the tail end, which is basically 60% bone and 40% flesh. I checked my facts before posting this review and found that the demonstrations online show chefs cutting away the meat from the only bone and using the bone and tail to make fish stock. I was very disappointed and hungry. We ordered a cheese and biscuits to share, and on arrival I recognised that the biscuits, although an expensive brand, contain sesame seeds. I asked them to take the plate back and check the packaging. 10 minutes later the plate was returned with 2 slices of bread replacing the biscuits and a comment of ‘sorry about that’ as it was dumped on the table. We were happy to get home without any serious allergy repercussions.

We were recommended this place to eat . Personally if I was driving by I would not stop as the place does not look inviting compared to other country pubs . However the decor inside is traditional, the welcome was warm , and it was full of returning locals creating a natural atmosphere. ( dog friendly in the bar ) The food was delicious, locally sourced fresh and well presented and service was delivered with a smile , reasonably attentive and good. I would go back again . We recommend this place .

7 of us went to the Rising Sun for the first time last week. We were a party of 4 adults and 3 teenagers. There was plenty of parking when we arrived and we entered through the bar where we ordered drinks before being shown to our table. The restaurant itself is lovely and has retained its traditional feel. We were brought water for the table and our waitress (who was extremely professional - friendly, efficient and knowledgeable) gave us the menus and talked me through the dairy-free options. As the food is all cooked fresh, I was able to choose to have all but one of the items on the menu. The food was outstanding: we had three courses and between us tried the sardines, bread and olives, crab tagliatelle, curried salmon, scotch egg, hake, steak, steak pie, sorbet and pavlova. All were delicious and well presented. We had a lovely evening and will definitely return.

We were a party of 11 visiting from Ireland - 3 generations of family and dog. Our meal was just superb - steaks perfectly done as requested, lamb mouthwatering, delicious fish and tasty pies, all beautifully presented. They obviously have a very talented chef - which I really didn’t expect in a rural inn. The Rising Sun is well worth a detour to sample their cuisine. And I must not omit to mention the service - so friendly and very efficient. I only wish we lived closer and I’d be back to repeat our experience.

Had the set lunch menue which was excellent value but my word, the food was outstanding. The sole melted in your mouth and the pork loin was perfect as was the relish and sauces. We were staying at a nearby property for the weekend and fell foul of marketing of a Sunday roast at the Jamaca Inn. It was very poor, so on route back to our accommodation we stopped at the Rising Sun Inn to drown our sorrows at being so foolish. Upon walking into the Rising sun, we instantly noticed it had an atmosphere and the barman/landlord welcomed us. I tried an IPA by a local brewery and it transpired that the brewer was standing next to me. Nice pub, good beer and will certainly be back to try the roast!

Booked a table for dinner based on other reviews and we were not disappointed! It was a quiet Wednesday evening and it was the three of us and several locals. To begin my husband had the spicy scotch egg and I helped my son with a couple of his Korean chicken wings - both dishes were fantastic and very tasty. For mains my son had the burger, my husband the steak and ale pie and I had the sirloin steak which I have to say was the best I have had in a very long time! The accompanying lettuce wedge served with a crispy topping, with mint and garlic was inspired - Miller and Carter take note! Too full for desserts and whist we finished our drinks, we sat and chatted to our fellow patrons and the lovely young lady behind the bar. This place has gone way downhill in my view, we will not bother again. To Rising Sun. Thank you for your prompt response. You seem to suggest that I don't know good quality food when I'm served it. Service was pretty non existent but as its a pub perhaps I was expecting more than having to go to the bar to order as the staff just weren't around. The fish pie wasn't very good at all. Too much flour used for the sauce and this had a knock on effect to the taste. Overall, not impressed and I won't be rushing back to eat again. Perhaps the main menu would taste better.....

Took my girlfriend away for her 30th and was recommended this pub/restaurant for an evening meal. My partner is coeliac and it can sometimes be stressful finding somewhere which not only understands the allergen, but goes above and beyond to cater for it. The rising sun was genuinely one of the best meals we both experienced. The barman was very knowledgeable and explained all the meals she could have - there was about 10% of the menu that she couldn't have! The rest was modified. So impressed. When the food came out - only one word fits - Wow! What a talented kitchen team they have. Partner had pork pie with a bahji coating instead of the breadcrumb - it was 10/10. I had the arrancini which again was just unbelievable For mains we had the sirloin steak and the beef burger - cooked to perfection, good portion size, great value for money. We had a short chat with the barman who asked what we had been up to today. After explaining it was her 30th birthday, he brought over complimentary prosecco for us and when paying for the meal they had given us a birthday card for my partner from the owners and team. Disbelief at the attention to detail from this establishment. I wish we lived closer as we would be visiting the rising sun alot! Thank you to the whole team. We went for an early dinner just after the New Year to take advantage of the special offer menu. It was very quiet in the pub when we arrived but within half an hour the bar was busy. We went through to the dining room and were sat with one other couple in the entire place (a second couple arrived about half an hour later). Despite this, the service was fairly poor. Both us and our neighbours had to retreat to the bar to get drinks with our meals and to pay before we left. I don’t expect that when I am in the restaurant and particularly not when the waiting staff are on the customer side of the bar chatting with friends. Once could be excused but each time we went through to the bar, is poor. That said, the food was a mix. The soup and rarebit was absolutely delicious. Really hearty and flavoursome. The whitebait and mayo was equally tasty and filling. The fish pie main was bland. It had no flavour at all. The lamb dish was nicely presented but just was too heavily flavoured with an aniseed taste. The lamb itself looked good but was tough and somewhat sinewy. The mash potatoes was good but nothing compared to the starter. Had we paid anything other than the very reasonable special rate we would not have paid for all the dishes. As it was, it was ok at the price. I would rather they charge more but produce better. Train the wait staff. There should be no reason for a diner (when there are only four) to have to leave their table in the restaurant to order drinks at the bar and then have the next course delivered whilst they are still at the bar ordering drinks. The wait staff should also check back once food is served, they didn’t. EDIT - I have just learned on facebook that the waiter we had (chatting to his friends whilst we needed service) was no other than 'Dylan our amazing assistant manager'. I am speechless. It is the first time we have never tipped for service.

This was then followed by a Lamb jalfrazi, Butter Chicken and a Fish curry, Naan Breads & Poppadoms. Dessert was a home made Rice Pudding, Mango Sorbet and a Pineapple Pannacota. The prices at £35 a head was an absolute steal. "Tim", The owner and Head Chef, excelled in every dish. "Conrad", Front of House and General Manager attended to our every need. "Sebastian" our Waiter and "Bailey"on the Bar, made our evening, with their helpful ways and smiley faces and making sure we were never kept waiting. Overall, the ambience, quality of food, service and the price, left us with very satisfied minds and bellies. We will certainly be back, and highly recommend this quality establishment to one and all. Thank You to everyone involved.

What a fantastic meal we had at the Rising Sun. I didn't want it to end. I had lamb croquettes to start with which melted on the tongue and delivered a stunning mix of flavours. Followed by a colourful and heavenly bowl of ravioli which...

The place was cold, we had a lunch which was OK but my wife was unable to eat her meal, was far too rich, an expensive place which did not meet my expectations, we will def not be returning

Since leaving London I have missed the small independent bakeries and this one is the answer to my prayers. Great selection of food from hot food and pasties to sweet treats and cakes and priced unbelievably well 😋

Short menu but every dish is excellent and a real gourmet experience. Dog friendly too.

The food’s OK, and not overpriced. What lets the place down is the noisy staff member ( owner?). I know it’s a greasy spoon, but still, one should be able to eat and hear oneself think in relative peace. I sit outside if possible.

Me and my partner had a really lovely all day breakfast together at this little cafe, really wonderful service and friendliness from the server who greeted us when we came in, and showed us to a table. They had a vegetarian breakfast (which I repeat, is offered all day!) which was delicious, and well priced at £9! They also have a nice range of classic cafe food like paninis, baguettes, omelettes and jacket potatoes. Genuinely just a very nice, classic cafe, done right! Bravo 👏👏
