Avoid at all costs. Unpleasant people who have no idea of a community pub. No care in the world other than themselves.

Buena suerte a Betty y Barney.

We never visited the Rising Sun until recently when we were told that the people that manage the Hyde Park now manage the RS. Staff polite with the same ethos and characteristics of the Hyde Park. I'm sure the renovations that are to happen will only enhance the pubs popularity.

When we heard and saw that the pub was being resurrected by a known local operator we hoped that it was about to become the good local that Mannamead Compton and Efford so badly needed. Sadly it has not met those hopes yet.The public bar has been closed without explanation. The pub entrances are plastered with notices prohibiting work and sports clothing, groups (apparently in excess of 4/6) and lots more. There are several bar staff - on our two visits outnumbering the customers. Prices have skyrocketed, matching and in some cases exceeding what we would commonly pay in central London, Bristol or Manchester. We have yet to see a food menu although we’ve been told that it is/will be available. The pub does not open till late afternoon most days although it was open earlier on Saturday but we did not dare go in with our Argyle scarves or bobble hats.Personally I can’t see there being enough prudes and Hyacinth Bucket types in and around Higher Compton to make a go of the new format but you never know. In the meantime we shall have to resort to the Greene King pub on Mutley Plain or trudge on down to the Barbican.

The pub has been closed for it seems almost two weeks now. In darkness as you come by early evening. A blackboard confirms pub closed and apologises for inconvenience but no indication of whether will reopen. No legal notices on doors or windows, no agents signs. A mystery. Can’t harm the pub down the road by the roundabout or those on Mutley Plain.

A wonderful atmosphere. A well maintained pub and beer garden. The food is fabulous and is all home made, They have specials on every day of the week, The Sunday roast is the best I have ever had and the Yorkshire puddings are the size of your hands. We turned up on Sunday in the hope we could obtain three lunches and were met by the chef, Martin. Two of us are vegetarians and we weren't sure whether they did vegetarian dishes. The chef was fantastic. Although there was no nutroast, thankfully. The veggie roast consisted of masses of potatoes, peas, brussel sprouts, carrots, cabbage, green beans, honey roasted parsnips, cauliflour cheese and probably something I've forgotten. There was so much food we couldn't eat it all. My roast beef was excellent too. We shall definitely be going back. Highly recommended

Popped in for a pint and something to eat, The friendly Bahman said it was Curry night so we decided to have that the cutlery was pretty dirty and the set up using balti dishes wasn’t exactly easy to use. The beer was clear and tasty but sadly it was served in a class that was absolutely disgustingly filthy! My girlfriends glass was the same and upon reflection the glass we were given as a sample to taste the ale was the same as were all the glasses behind the bar, clearly the pot wash does not work properly!

Have been a regular in this pub for many years. Since the new landlady has taken over the food and the pub hygiene has gone downhill. The food is very poor quality and the menu very limited. Went in the pub the other day at 1200 midday when it had just opened and the tables were swimming with last nights beer and the beer mats were soggy! The pub itself smells of fried food! Decided just to have cheesy chips which had to be sent back as there was no cheese!!! Sad as this was a lovely pub! No more meals here for us!

Popped in for Sunday lunch as I read the positive reviews. We ordered the beef with the other meats. It was the worst, toughest beef we have ever tasted!! The staff member in the white coat who came over to us asked if we were ok to which I said the beef is very very tough he said it's rare he will get steak knives for us. Hack saws should of been better really. Other people who had the beef had left theres too as it was too tough for them and running in blood, I suppose that's why he said to us it's rare. Thought it was supposed to be roast beef which gets softer with roasting. We had no apologies and his take it or leave it attitude does not bode well. Avoid this place!!

Recently visited with friends for an evening meal. Absolute shambles at best, ordered kids food first and asked for it to be served soon as poss as they were starving, in the meantime ordered 2 starters, 1 starter turned up (Which was the wrong meal) the other is still missing somewhere. Kids food arrived which was adequate. Then the mains (sometime later I might add) started to appear, I honestly expected Jeremy Beadle to pop out some time. To summarise the shambles known as the "Rising Inn", despite being the only people eating in there, albeit for the first and last time, we were sat at a table that whenever anyone went to the loos we had a cold blast of air and that endearing stench of urine associated with dirty pubs. Oh yeah, it was £20 a head too, for reference the lamb burger is comparable to 1/4 lb of thin recovered plastic granules compressed into 2 skinny burgers and served on a bun, if you want mayonnaise with your meal ask for English mustard as the reverse happened to me. Luckily we were with good friends and found the whole farce funny.

We used to come here regularly on a Thursday evening with friends but have finally given up on it. The landlord seems to have lost interest in the customers and the business. They only have one cider. The range of beers has reduced. The food side isn't up to much. A lot of the residual local lower middle class neighbourhood trade has seeped away. A long established middle market pub seems to dead on its legs. These things take a long time to reverse. If you want to play darts or get a good view of the TV you won't have to fight your way to the front.

It was Mother's Day last year and it was fairly obvious that the restaurant was on the verge of closing down for the day. There was snow in the air and we'd put in a decent day's cycling. we asked, somewhat optimistically, if there was still a chance of getting any food and were told with a smile "yes". Not only was the food excellent, but the landlord took the trouble of re-kindling the dying embers of the wood burner. It was all so welcome and unexpected. This was probably the most disgusting customer service that I have EVER experienced. After last orders were called we had full glasses. The Landlord and his family were having their own private party and obviously took a dislike to our party of 4 quietly enjoying a few beers in his establishment. The Landlord appeared and stated the following "Its time for you to leave so drink up and get out".... at 1115pm on a Wednesday evening and we were his ONLY customers we were disgusted. He also gesticulated by pointing quite clearly to the door.....We spent around 80 quid in this place to be treated like SCUM.Never again and even the barmaid was embarrassed. At one point whilst my Wife was returning from the bathroom, one of the Landlords Family members was re-enacting the film "The Mermaid" by laying on one of the pub tables and throwing beer mats at my Wife..... When we left the same demented family member bowed to us as we walked out of the door.....These people are freaks, have disgusting customer service and need to understand that this is NOT their living room where they choose to do what they want to do.We the general public pay your bills and allow you to lead the life that you lead.I will NEVER return and will tell everybody I know do not frequent this establishment.

Came in after a local job on recommendation of our customer who said she'd been in last year. Didn't meet her description. Maybe has gone down hill or we were unlucky. Seems to be an old style neighbourhood pub dabbling in a bit of sit down food. Our orders took ages and were a bit bland. I think maybe there wasn't enough trade to invigorate the kitchen. They ought to put up some pictures on here of both the pub and the food and maybe get a simple website to give punters a fair idea of what to expect.

A mixed bag. Nice pub with ok beers but not especially warm welcome from bar staff (do they actually want people to return?). How about a 'hello, how are you? 'I've not seen you in here before, are you new to the area? I hope you enjoy the pub and you come back again - we really value your business...'Why is it some business places think they don't have to be customer focused? After you've picked your way past the cars parked outside the door (staff cars?) and entered, the interior is ok and there are plenty of tables. The food menu does seem to be quite large with some surprising dishes on it. I opted for a burger (£8). Look, if you can't get a burger right you have to worry about the rest of the offerings. This is supposed to be a rising sun special? The bun was not toasted, the burgers uniform and a little slimy and the bacon fatty. It also had the disgusting ubiquitous orange plastic cheese slice on it. Yuck. The burger arrived on a large white plate sprinkled with what I can only think was some kind of dried or withered parsley sprinkles - a sort of grey green colour. The accompanying chips - greasy and shrivelled were served in a stainless steel dish that was more school dinners than decent pub.A shame really as this could be a decent place. Simplify and reduce the menu, review the pricing - ive had really good pub food at two courses for around a tenner (rose and crown yealmpton) that really sets the bar. Bit worried about the hygiene rating too, there's really no excuse not to get at least 4 stars but one? Would like this to be the sort of local that I could take my visiting friends and family to without worrying. Afraid to say that at the moment it would just be for a pint.

For a few years now has been offering lunchtime and evening food . Some burgers and stuff with chips but some much more interesting selections boldly done with varying levels of satisfaction. I think it's now a pub worth eating in, probably better soon after work rather than leaving it till after nine.In warm weather there is an enclosed sun trap area at the back.As at seventh this pub restaurant listing appears on the wrong continent as being in Plymouth, Massachusetts , whereas it is very obviously in Plymouth, Devon, UK.

It's a Costa, they're all the same. Friendly staff and nice and clean. Not much else to say.

Typically great brewdog atmosphere and like normal the bar staff have good music taste. Impressive guest drinks selection, and awesome food menu. Love the buffalo sauce they use here. Really do like the atmosphere. If the drinks were a little cheaper I’d sit and drink for hours.

Our dining experience at the Mayflower was mixed, with friendly service but substandard food. Service: The staff were welcoming and attentive, resolving minor issues like smudged glassware quickly and professionally. The bread service was a nice touch, and we appreciated the small details from the staff. Food: Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations. My Wagyu Burger (£27) was dry with a stale bun, and the beef short rib (£33) was more like a small, over-seasoned croquette rather than a proper portion. Both dishes felt overpriced for what was delivered. Response to Feedback: When I shared feedback with the staff, the waitress didn’t seem to know how to handle it and left us feeling quite uncomfortable. Although the manager, Mike, later removed the cost of the mains, the experience had already been marred by the poor food quality and lack of service recovery at the time. In summary, while the service started strong, the disappointing food and awkward handling of our feedback made for a subpar dining experience.

One of the worst burger i've ever eaten. Much worse that McDonald's or kfc
