Rishi's Indian Aroma in Edinburgh, City of

Loved the ambience.. An authentic restaurant with a personal touch .. Though a bit far from the main city centre ..clean and spacious. We had 2 varieties of Dosa with 2 types starters and mango lassi All foods were well cared for .

Absolutely delicious. My husband, 3 year old, and 6 month old waited for them to open and were so glad we did! It was delicious and they were so, so kind. Especially to our kiddos! Definitely worth leaving the city center for!

We were a party of 4 for dinner. Starters were delicious - Masala Dosa, Lamb Chops, Chilli Squid, and Salmon Fish Cakes. Main dishes were even better. The proteins were freshly cooked and tender, and very tasty. Service by Shilpa was delightful. She had a decidedly friendly manner and was responsive to our several requests. Overall, a lovely experience with happy and friendly service and excellent food.

The food was good. Recommend the thali and the curries snd breads. Not congested and a must visit for Indian food.

Been here a number of times, food and staff are great always welcoming and great with kids.

Wednesday lunchtime and a decent crowd in. Welcomed by friendly staff and shown to table. We had three starters, all of which were delicious and good size. Very tasty street food. We also had a chicken tikka wrap with fries - all to share. More than enough. Food plus two large soft drink for £37. What's not to like! I have best of both worlds as will be visiting the Dundee branch in my home town very soon and will be back to Newhaven venue on my next visit to my daughter. Thoroughly recommend. The staff were a delight and made us feel very welcome.

Food ok, nowhere near enough sauce for the korma. Far too much rice and medium helping of chicken. The rice, chicken & sauce ratio is not great at all hence why I would not order again. Was rather a lot of money for not a very enjoyable experience

Had been before and enjoyed a lovely meal there. We ordered too much the first time. This visit, with Indian friends, we were advised and chose wonderful starters, main courses and Dosas. The food was superb and the waiting Staff including 'Miss D' were lively, helpful, effective and efficient all with big smiles. Compliments to the Chef and Team for his/her food. A big step up from other Indian Restaurants we have been to in the city.

Very very dissappointed of unwelcomed and humilated service being offered. They still need to learn a lot on service. No one was there to ask for the table. Once got the table no one was giving menu. Finnaly it was become extreme when they forgot to serve couple of items we ordered. No one was there to check what ordered being delivered ro table. But they dont forgot to add those non served items in bill. When I said, it was altered but without a single sorry as it was a common practice for them. Also no one bothered to take any customer feedback. This might be my 1st and last visit to Rishi's. Also I felt there are lot of discrepancies being Asian and Western.

Went for mother day dinner, food is excellent, the staff are so friendly and very informative about the food what to order, had a great time would definitely go again and recommend to family and friends.

Spotlessly clean, very welcoming with delicious food at a very reasonable price. We will definitely go again when we are in the area. Clearly it is a well loved spot by the local residents as it always was busy when we went by.

Regrettably, there was an oversight in our recent order from Rishi’s as we received Chicken Biryani instead of the Veg Paneer Biryani we had requested for a vegetarian friend. After reaching out to them, they apologised and swiftly sent the correct dish along with complimentary Papad and Onion Bhajjis. While we appreciate their quick resolution, this is a basic check to do, and we believe these kinds of mistake shouldn’t happen and these errors can be avoided with more thorough checks before handing over orders to the delivery person.

A Very modern and quirky restaurant. We enjoyed absolutely delicious food and the service was spot on as well.

Had a family dinner and ordered family dosa, chkn tikka, chkn 65 , paneer kadhai and naan bread along with kids meal. Everything was yummy and each one of enjoyed the food thoroughly. Special mention to the service - we ordered garlic and it was there on our table within 2 mins. Absolutely amazing place for a nice meal. Guess these guy have a habbit of surpassing their own expectations with each of my visit. Will keep on visiting.

Christmas day a absolutely a disgrace . No respect for this special occasion. Food was getting passed from table to table . The lady next to us said they had a bite out the meal that was given to us . I could go on and on . IT was £20.00 to book but they also took money from my account on the same day in October. Disgrace I and friends off Edinburgh circle will never return .

Great food. Perfect south Indian dishes were available. Family dosa is a must try, but you need 4 to 5 adults to finish the dosa. Sambar taste was same as the one we get in chennai, India. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Chicken 65 was juicy and tasty.

The vegetarian food was outstanding and I wish they ran a cookery school, I would sign up immediately. Alas there was an unpleasant blocked drain smell that was coming through the ventilation system which I hope they have fixed. The service was great and the staff were friendly.

We had a very bad experience at the restaurant firstly the service was very bad taste was even worse especially there are two waiters Deekshitha and Anil. They were being very rude to us throughout the dinner maybe it was close to their closing time but the behaviour was unacceptable. We found fragments of hair in the food and when confronted waiters were back answering and making fun of it.

Nice place to try South Indian food. We liked the restaurant. Good value. Would like to try again, if get chance.

Best Indian restaurant in Edinburgh (Hongkongers review)

Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. I was left with the impression that food was average. Although we knew in advance that we only had a 2 hour slot, it was still a let down that we were rushed to leave. Not the best Christmas day experience.

Went here for christmas dinner we were seated after 10 minutes of arriving and waited a while for our drinks order to be taken and ended up going to the bar for it, our table was for 2.30 but were served at 3.45, and had to be out at 4.30, ordered a bottle of white wine but rose arrived that another table ordered so asked for the bottle of white which we eventually got, after dinner we asked for the bill only for it to arrive with 4 bottles of wine charged when we only had 2, service was absolutely shocking but i will say the food was amazing. I felt sorry for the people that had booked for 4.30 but didnt get seated till after 5, sorry but wont be back any time soon

Wonder how many Christmas Days were ruined by Rishi's. Absolute shambles 40 odd left out in the pouring rain 30mins No apology for lateness and chaos inside as well. Service and food fine once it got started an hr late but only cos most had left without food having deposit refunded. Shame on you Rishi's.

Reviewed many places to go around as I don’t stay in Edinburgh. Just wanted to give a try and went there with no booking on a busy Saturday. Lady at enterance was charming with her smile and accommodated us to a good table. Ordered few starters and curries with rice and naan. Very authentic taste could feel Indian presence. Always happy to going back again. Loved it guys

Christmas Day - awful. Just terrible today. So busy, over subscribed and they could not cope. Managed to get seated quite quickly but lots of people stood outside in awful weather. We could not leave our table as still waiting for food to come almost 3 hours into service. Staff shouting at each other which could be heard from where we were sat. No gaps between sitting which caused real issues. On the bill was £19 for kids meal which was billed at £15 and bottle of Prosecco and we did not order at £27. 2 hours for starter to arrive. Also issue they put food down on table next to us which was quite rightly tucked into by them and they then tried to swap to our table when they realised it was for us and I refused to take and insisted on fresh meal. Got bill down from £162 to £80 so all drinks removed from the bill - that was max we would pay. Never again.

Booked for Xmas dinner. Bit chaotic at the start, but it was very busy , so understandable. Food was amazing and arrived very quickly. Well done all the staff who were great and very patient… and a special mention to Missy D 😊

Christmas Dinner absolutely shocking service. Did not receive naan bread or pompadoms with our dinner which we paid for. Was offered complimentary drink which we did not receive. Absolute joke will never return totally spoiled our day!

Absolutely disgraceful service. Booked for Christmas Day meal. Left outside in the pouring rain. 25 people in from and another 40 inside. Overbooked and all tables still eating. Ruined Christmas Day and the man behind the counter was like a grinning demented puppet and could only say you will be seated shortly. People at the front of the queue were waiting over two hours. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Nobody came out to advise any one of the delay. Such a shame as I’ve been before and the food and service were great. Obviously greed has overtaken the need for service.

This place came as a pleasant surprise for amazing authentic Indian food that is so rare to find out in UK. Right from their mango lassi to Rishi's special starter platter to Masala Dosa and the popular dessert sampler, every single delicacy was spot-on and justified the price (perhaps understating it as there are tonnes of "Indian" dine-in's out there charging more than what they're while mocking the authenticity of the food). The place was fully booked out on Xmas Eve when we visited, and we were fortunate that they could accommodate us despite having no reservation for an hour, as that was the only slot available with them. It's location may not be right in the center but very easily accessible via tram. Highly highly recommend it and hope to visit it again in my next trip to Scotland.

Booked online and received a confirmation via email but, on arrival, the entry in their bookings log was for half an hour later. We were sat at a table away from the main dining area and told they would get us some drinks while we waited. We were then ignored for a lengthy time which set the scene for the rest of the evening. They quietened down whilst we were there, only three or so tables occupied, and even then service was poor. I even took ages, after getting the bill, to have someone take out payment. Disappointing experience overall.

The restaurant boasts a delightful atmosphere, well-proportioned dishes, and attentive staff who provide guidance to prevent food waste. I highly recommend Rishi's to anyone seeking a fantastic Indian dining experience.

Visited here for a meal with extended family and really enjoyed everything about it. Great, buzzing atmosphere, and friendly staff. The food was great, interesting choices, and some different dishes from the usual Indian restaurant. The 5 foot long family doza is a must - brilliant fun to share with the whole table. Main courses were really tasty, as were breads and rice. Good price for the excellent quality. Look forward to another visit!

Had Briyani with chicken sides, I liked it. Samosa was sumptuous. Masala Dosa is again a good one to try.

Excellent dosai here if that is what you want. Very similar to the once you get in tamil nadu that is long and large which is appetising. Staff are very courteous which is rare in indian restaurants. Definitely will visit again.

Have eaten in and had a takeaway. Food fresh and tasty with large portions. Lovely interior decorating design, airy and modern. Staff are always very friendly, sweet and helpful. I'm not a big curry person, but if I have a curry now, I'll get it here!

So enjoyed our meal on Sunday that we went back again yesterday (Wednesday) Absolutely delicious food and wonderful friendly service with useful tips about food and drink. Relaxed atmosphere. Easy to reach by tram, bus or on foot. We live in Switzerland and were staying in Western Harbour and would go back to this Rishi's if we are in Edinburgh again. Very reasonable price as well. Indian boyfriend says: best dosa so far in edinburgh (sauces taste a bit different but the dosa itself was great. portions were okay, our group of 4 didn't order starters and we still needed to pack food home. staff were really kind and professional and the interior was very cozy

I stumbled across this restaurant whilst staying in a neighbouring hotel. What a fortuitous ‘stumble’! Food was of great quality, the staff were friendly and helpful. Had a lovely evening. Well worth paying it a visit.

Doesn’t live up to the expectations of the Indian food experience. The food was kind of bland and the prices were too much for the portions they served. Service was dull. Ironically, being an Indian didn’t feel very welcome in the Indian restaurant.

We visited this restaurant and had a bad experience of eating frozen samosa for £7each. If we buy a packet of samsosa from shop ,it won't worth that much. When we ordered it we were sure that they will pick frozen samosa from freezer to oven and will charge as fresh one. However we had to eat that frozen one. And it was awful 🤢🤮🤢. When we informed this, that man said, oh you should have tell it before, now I will reduce the price of one samosa. He is so kind😅🤔😠😡. The chicken biriyani was the worst one I ever had in my life😳😱. How can someone cheat others like this. No hospitality ever. When we asked to pack our leftover , he just given us the container and left. Well done guys. Keep going. Spending money in cheap restaurants like this is not really a good choice.

Popped in on a cold Saturday, November evening after reading good reviews. On entering the Rishi's the manager asked if I'd booked. The restaurant was packed, but he still found me a table. I ordered a Kingfisher beer, and for my main meal I wanted to try something new, so orderd a Chicken Kadai and Pilau Rice. The service is very swift here and needs to be in such a busy restaurant. My Chicken Kadai arrived 10 mins later, and was very good. It's described as spicy on the menu. After tasting my first mouthful, I'd say it's madras heat, just right. There was a nice rich gravy with sliced cooked onions and green peppers. Portion was very generous and the curry had a nice flavour. I will definitely return to Rishi's.

We love this restaurant! The manager is extremely friendly and always willing to give precious recommendations. The food is incredible, best quality ever, we are never disappointed! They even allowed us to dine in with our little dog. We will come back here for sure!

This was the best Indian meal we’ve ever had. One of the secrets is good oils including ghee. Delicious flavors! The portions were very generous and the prices excellent. Staff was personable and cared about what our experience was. I wish I lived here so I could go often!

Finally an authentic Indian restaurant. The dosa was delicious and the paneer curry was excellent. The staff is brilliant and friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely too.

As always the food at Rishi's cannot be faulted. My only gripe relates to our not being given the lunch menu and only the more expensive evening menu. This could have been a mistake however I witnessed another couple also only receiving the evening menu. Not going to be put off by this as I love the place but feel what I've highlighted needs mentioning.

Had experience with your samosa and biryani, and I've got to say, it was a complete letdown. A frozen centre in a samosa? Seriously? If you're cutting corners with frozen stuff, at least do it justice. And that biryani? Mixing chicken curry with rice is a lazy shortcut. Given your prices, this is pretty shoddy. You need to up your game before you dupe more customers.

My wife and I went for a meal at Rishi's while we were in Edinburgh on 01/10/2023. We very rarely eat Indian when we eat out as my wife is south Indian and the few Indian restaurants we have tried in various place's have all been disappointing and not come close to proper south Indian flavours. As soon as we walked in the door, we had a warm, friendly welcome. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and is pleasing on the eye. The staff are very friendly and serve with a smile. Now the food. I had a masala dosa and chicken biriyani and butter naan. I can honestly say from the first bite of my dosa dipped in samba I felt like I was back in kerala and my wife enjoyed hers just as much. The flavours of both dishes was amazing. This is true Indian food not the food that alot of brits think is Indian. Thank you to all the staff. We will definitely be eating here again next time we make the trip to Edinburgh.

If you want authentic Indian food in Edinburgh then this is the place to visit and have flavourful subcontinent meal. Starters, dosas, chole bhatura, curries and biryani.

The worst curry ever. I ordered dhansak I couldn't taste or see a lentil, the sauce was scarce, watery and looked like vomit. The lamb was overcooked, so it was dry and crumbly. The so called pilau rice looked like long grain boil in the bag and was tasteless. We only ordered from here as my son lives nearby. Never again, would have been better getting an Asda meal 😒

Love the food and service here. Authentic and appreciate the waitress for making the dishes extra spicy for us too. Location is good with easy parking outside (at least on Friday evening).

Great experience. Visited both restaurants in Edinburgh and Glasgow on our scotland tour. But service i got in Edinburgh was superb. Especially the staff shilpa and the food was also delicious.

Lovely Indo-Pak restaurant with a good and appropriate atmosphere. Music was from the subcontinent and good to see a good number of people from that ethnicity eating there.

Fantastic food. Never had Dosa before and not seen so many Indian families eating there, which is always a good sign! Best rice I've ever had.

If it's a no-nonsense quality curry you're after, this place is perfect. The Vindaloo is excellent, full of flavour with a rioitously good after burn that just stays within a sensible level. Not to be confused with places that try to disable your taste buds.

Just back from excellent meal at Rishi's in Newhaven. Shilpa and her Team were excellent explaining our chosen dishes. Food was superb. Dosa meals are awesome. South Indian cooking at its best. Well done Chef 👨‍🍳. Service with a smile and at a reasonable price too. Saw the 5' family Dosa being served. My chicken Dosa was superb 😋. We will be back.

I had a dinner tonight for the very first time after listening so many positive reviews from friends, however communication of staff were very poor, today we’ve been served by one small lady, restaurant gonna close at 10 o’clock, she came and directly asked about payment, we were not finished yet and still 10 minutes were left, without telling anything about closing, we told her we want to order something, and she was like you can’t we’re closed now, didn’t even say sorry or apologies, her tone was so rude, such a poor staff who doesn’t even know how to communicate with guests.

Best Indian cuisine for the best price. Lamb Dosa and Biryani are the best.
