As someone who savors authentic flavors, Kahaani's tandoor dishes whisked me back to my days in New Delhi. The tandoori lamb chops were a revelation, tender and perfectly spiced, paired exquisitely with mint chutney. The dhaba-style chicken curry, brimming with robust flavors and enhanced by the bone-in chicken, invoked nostalgic memories. While I longed for a bit more heat, each bite was a journey down memory lane. The buttered tandoori roti provided the ideal canvas for savoring every morsel. And let's not forget the mango lassi, reminiscent of the vibrant streets of Kolkata. The grand finale, masala tea, was a fitting conclusion to this culinary journey. Service was impeccable, with the courteous staff, especially Purushottam, adding a personal touch by recommending dishes tailored to my palate. Kahaani truly lives up to its name, weaving a culinary tale that every Indian missing home would cherish.

There were six of us. Every one of us really enjoyed this meal. We had the special lunch which was very good value. Apart from the value, the food was lovely and everything was very fresh and tasty. I would recommend this to anyone. We each paid £20 (that included a decent tip). Another advantage was that diners are invited to take their own wine/beer and there is no corkage charge. Highly recommended!

On a visit to Edinburgh with family we decided to go out for dinner on a Sunday evening. We booked to visit the Kahani and they certainly did not disappoint. We all chose different curries and shared them. The staff were very friendly without being intrusive and were very helpful in recommending suitable dishes for various tastes. I can definitely recommend this restaurant.

Again, another delicious meal! Usually been early evening but went for lunch this time! Veg pakora/chicken pakora/fish pakora/chicken kahari and garlic naan were hot, fresh and succulent - and all delicious! Service very good, nice and bright restaurant with a good view of Elm Row and beyond! Our go-to Indian restaurant and booked again before we left! Thank you!

The Indian store clerk is super friendly and willing to give suggestions. Enter during peak dining hours and be seated immediately! They all come over and ask if they have any questions~ I ordered a mutton curry with pancakes. People who don’t like spicy food should pay attention. The chili pattern on the menu is no joke. The dishes are really spicy, but they are very fragrant and delicious! The cake is crispy on the outside but chewy in texture, and the more you chew, the more delicious it gets. It also goes well with Indian rice! His drinks are delicious and a complete oasis in the UK! I ordered a glass of Blue Hawaii, coconut milk + pineapple, refreshing and delicious!

Food and drinks were quite unremarkable and disappointing for the price (e.g. £3.25 for tiny portions of steamed rice that were dry). I ordered a mocktail (mojito) which was just an overpriced, small sprite with some mint and a wedge of lime (£4.50!). Mains had a mass produced feel to them and a lack of vegetables. We could have cooked much better food ourselves at home.

Little pricey but extremely tasty food. Had the briyani and fish curry which were very tasty. Decent service too.

Amazing food and even better service. We were warmly greeted on the Good Friday evening even on a full house. The food was mouthwatering and yummy. We had the Monk Fish Tikka for starters, followed by Dhaba Murgh Curry, Mixed Veg Taka tak and the wholesome Chapatti and Paratha. We felt like we are at home. We opted for the Tea at the end and it was really refreshing. Would highly recommend.

Last meal out while up on holiday in Edinburgh… just as well as had we gone here first night we would have gone here every evening! Jalfrezi and Karahi were amazing, melt in the mouth chicken and just the tight level of fire. Butter chicken and Korma for the kids were equally tasty. Lovely service, just right. Would recommend.

Looking to book a restaurant for a works leaving lunch so up to 50 people . Have gad many a lovely lunch at Kahani so wanted to go again . They were very happy to take us ( we had the back area to ourselves , the food was delicious and plenty of it , the waiters all looked after us . Will be back again

Very disappointing visit as we had great expectations from reading reviews here. Service was indifferent and the acoustics very poor. The meat was very dry and the mains served so fast they can’t have been cooked to order… must have been standing around for a while giving how dry it was. It was overall under seasoned as well. The only good part was the poppadoms and pickle tray, but that was standard level and not worth going for. There are many great Indian restaurants in Edinburgh, so definitely won’t be going back here.

visited kahani today with my husband and a friend it was our first time here and it was absolutely amazing food and staff were brilliant. Will certainly return again.

Can’t fault the food, but when we’re all obviously finished and ready to go don’t rush us out. We’re not in your way.

The food here is amazing. I think the the staff could do with some customer care training. When it was time to leave they were quite rude.

It tasted like a microwave meal and there were a couple of flies in the building, which made me feel sick .

I went there for the first time and ordered a Paneer Dish, Samosa Chat and later in the desert was Brownie with Ice-cream. The food was ok, the prices were ok too, however the manager was rude and he literally made me move my chair from one direction to another just because he wanted another customers to accommodate, wherein the whole restaurant had no customers and he could have made them sit anywhere else but he wanted me to disturb be in between having my food. I would not like visiting this place again and won't even recommend it. Very disappointed with the customer service.

Wouldn't say it was especially a warm welcome, eventually got noticed standing to be seated but appreciate they are busy. We did pre book but it didn't seem needed, there was a brief acknowledgement. The location is more or less opposite the Playhouse and there's a Tesco a few minutes away for your drinks so it's good. The heat does hit you as you walk in and are seated but you soon get used to it. I did wonder what it'd be like in the summer. The decor of the flowers on the ceiling is lovely, tables were quickly cleared and set up for the next customers but just to be aware that the tables are close together to your neighbours so you will hear their conversations as they will yours. You're given a laminated menu and assisted to open your BYOB drinks if needed and given glasses/ice. The servers were all very efficient and pleasant when we were seated. We had starters, mains with rice and a naan bread to share which came to £50 which we thought was good. The food itself was all good. I'd recommend if you happen to be going to the Playhouse and wanted Indian food but I do think there are other Indian restaurants that have the edge.

The food and service were excellent. I don't like onions, so I was given a recommendation for a curry that would suit my tastes, and it proved delicious (the Old-school curry). I had previously been there two weeks previously, and I would go again. My only criticism has nothing to do with the food or service: I couldn't get the hand-drier to work in the Gentlemans' convenience.

first time here, and definitely not the last. we had reserved, but there was a queue, all dispensed with quickly. We had brought wine, and were quickly given an ice bucket for it. The menu was good, and we chose some dishes. Lamb and Chicken. Great tasty food, and loved the little indications (chilli symbol) for the spiciness. Served quickly but courteously. We will be back to try more. Also noted the ladies toilets were spotless.

We celebrated our staff night out and were offered a set menu. Plates to the centre of the table to share. Plenty of food and nice selection for everyone being meat, veggie or vegan. Brought our own bottles and were provided with ice buckets for the wine. Very attentive staff too!

Use this place for lunch once a month and it is excellent. Food is first class and you can bring your own to bottle of alcohol without incurring any changes.

The food is annoyingly hot with ground chilli and lots of oil in an unhealthy amount. Service is fair enough. The staff members and everyone in the front of the house are polite and attentive to details. It's the chef here who messed things up. The chutney tray for the Papadoms I expected was freshly prepared but it didn't taste so. The starters weren't up to the mark. It tasted of oil and whole pieces of spices added with a some amount of rawness to it. Would not recommend.

Given the choice, I would rate it zero. We ordered vegetable biryani, but it was entirely stale, leading to food poisoning the following day. Additionally, the service was subpar, with a rude and judgmental waiter/manager.

Spicy south Indian food, I tried menu that I never had before (Chicken curry and some curry with coconut), turns out okay as new experience (usually I order chicken tikka masala, madras or chicken butter). This restaurant is a bit different with a little hot taste from chillies but I like it. Server and food is fast with no time of waiting. I recommended the starter set for 2 people that recommended in the menu it worth the money :)

One of the Best Place in Edinburgh if you actually want to taste Indian Food. They will adjust spices as per your taste. Tried every Restaurant around, but finally Kahani is the place which is actually serving the best Indian Food.

The restaurant has plenty of veg options but the staff must be more attentive as we had to remind them again for the dishes we ordered as they forgot. Had ordered dal tadka, basmati rice and alu mutter. Alu mutter was sweet. Dal wasn't cooked well. Papad tasted as if it was fried in stale oil. Overall not a good experience.

We had a booking, for 17:30,as were going to see a show,so restaurant was quiet. Food, was very tasty,if not a bit pricey,as each part of a meal,charged separately. Asked twice for water & it still hadn't come,by the end of the meal. We did get glasses & is good,that you can BYOB. One main meal,that we had ordered,was wrong. Had started to eat it & they did offer to change it,but declined. Waiters,need to pay more attention,to orders.

One of the best Indian in all of Edinburgh. The food and service is excellent. The Aalo Chana Chaat and Malai Kulfi beat even some of the Chaat and Kulfi I’ve had in India! Everything we tried was authentic. The portion size is also great. Service is very fast as well. We’ve been here twice and it was great both times!

Expensive food with a plain taste.

This is a very nice place for Indian food on foreign shores. Service is good with pleasant people like Purushottam Saville Darell and Suraj making you feel comfortable. The food is good on the palate and we liked it especially because our 7 year old son loved the food and enjoyed it.

Best Samosa Chat I have ever had in the whole UK. I have been there 3 times while I was visiting Scotland. - The food is really tasty. - Ambience is decent and good for having a quiet meal away from the city crowd. - Must go while in Scotland. - It's Recommended for larger groups as it has large tables and a big dining area as well. - You can pre-order before going to the restaurant. Which saved us much time.

Amazing taste and brilliant location. This place is walking distance from central Edinburgh. The overlooking tables by the roadside are amazing on a bright sunny day. The food is amazing. The price may seem on the higher side but for the taste and the location it's well worth it. Overall a must try!

Had the most amazing meal last night. First time in Edinburgh so was unsure where to eat, and my, did we make a good choice. The food was genuinely cooked to perfection! Nice one Joe! Was presented beautifully and I honestly could not recommend them highly enough. The staff were a credit too, so welcoming and friendly.

We were in Edinburgh for 3 nights and ended up having dinner here on all nights!! Authentic Indian food with great staff and quick service! Loved all the food items especially the Dal Makhani, which is the closest to what we get in Delhi/Chandigarh/India. Would highly highly recommend this if you want to have an authentic Indian dining experience.

We have been tonight and we were amazed by the pleasant staff and huge portions. The nan bread was the best and it was one of the best Indian experiences, tasty and mouth watering x Had to fetch wine from Tesco as don't do alcohol, but this wasn't a problem,we will know for next time.,which will be Wed before we go home xx 😍
