Kahani Indian Restaurant in Edinburgh, City of

Started coming here a couple of years ago, it is now my go to restaurant. Food is delicious and the staff always friendly and welcoming. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

My absolute lasting memory of my visit will be the deliously light Gulab Jamen which are handmade. It is worth going just for that! Dishes are delicious and great value for money, generous portions. Recommend the Fish pakora, a firm family favourite. Been a couple of times now, as part of large and small groups and the quality of the food and service has been excellent.

This is our second time here for lunch. The food remains of high quality, generous portions and the curry sauce is delicious. The garlic naan made us like this place even more, and BYOB is the icing on the cake. Definitely recommended!

Have been coming back to Kahani’s for many years. The food is amazing and a great restaurant to eat and enjoy amazing Indian food with friends. The staff are very attentive and the restaurant has a welcoming ambience. When dining here remember to order at least one of their delicious garlic Nan breads to dip into your favourite curry.

The food was quite average. I was expecting something better. That said, the prices are very reasonable.

We love it here, food is excellent, staff very friendly and a lovely ambience in a beautiful setting. Also BYOB so keeps cost down a bit. Only downside I would say is staff rushing to take the order within 2 mins of sitting down.

This was our 3rd visit to Kahani for lunch. Food was consistently of a high standard- generous portions and very tasty. The 2 course lunch is exceptional value and BYOB keeps costs down. Service was good- attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend

I forgot if I was in Delhi or Edinburgh! In terms of taste and flavour - amazing! Joe took good care and was very welcoming. Will surely visit again.

The food was delicious as usual and the staff were very attentive. Very good value and being a BYOB helps to keep the price down a bit.

I preferred the Kahani as on of the excellent indian cusine in Edinburgh. The quality and quantity of the food was really nice. I was impressed with the customer service of the staff especially the guys Joe and Saville. Moreover the ambience of the hotel would provide the good environment to enjoy the meals. Their food was very delicious and environment was nice and tidy . Must try ‘Hydrabadi biriyani ‘ it was mouth watering . Staff were lovely .

Good restaurant enjoyed the food. The only thing I would say is possibly pay more attention to a large table.

It was my first day in Edinburgh. We travelled from Birmingham to Edinburgh and was searching for the Indian restaurant. I would say this is one of the best Indian food I tried in UK. Must try samosa chaat, prawns and all starters are very delicious as compared to main course.

I recently visited this restaurant with a group of friends celebrating my birthday, and it was an absolutely lovely experience. The atmosphere was perfect, and the food was even better - so much abundance on that table. We've been so well attended by the staff. Everything about this place felt just right, from the company to the flavors. A wonderful experience that left us all impressed!

The curries we had were very spicy and tasty (saag alo) and the service is friendly and fast. The naan bread was very fresh and well baked. You can bring your own bottle of wine or beer, since they don’t sell alcohol. You can decide on your own service tip (instead of a standard 10% added to the bill). Free tap water is served. Great place to eat!

A very wonderful place and all their food is halal and very delicious

First time having meal with friends. Really nice friendly staff and they worked really hard, it was very busy. Food was lovely, well cooked and all came at the same time. The back room did get very hot just because it was full and no windows which was a little uncomfortable but the air conditioning kicked in .

Was there on Saturday evening with my family whilst it was very busy. Despite the amount of customers we didn’t feel a lack of good customer service. The servers were welcoming and tended to all our needs. Had an amazing evening and i’m definitely going back with my friends this time! 👍

A real Indian food. Best in Edinburgh.

Manager very abrupt advised to him couldn't eat onion everything on set menu had onion. Shouted at me as I ask to pick from main menu. Was told from staff they only had water to drink went to Tesco for juice and alcohol was told to take juice of the table as they can supply this (was told different) other staff were help when needed but manager needs some training in how to approach a customer in the correct manner. WILL NOT BE BACK

The best Indian restaurant in Edinburgh 👌🏻

This was my first visit since the restaurant changed names (previously known as Khushi's) Great food, helpful staff all contributed to a great Friends reunion.

We went to this Resturant for an early dinner. The restaurant was located close to our hotel . We had the Dohra seekh kabab and the lamb Karan both of which were good . Excellent service from Joe

We had a friend's and family long luncheon get-together. Great fun, lovely food and very good service. We will return when next in Edinburgh.

Decent table layout. Noisy atmosphere with groups on byob overdose. Service sloppy not watching the tables. Soft drinks overpriced. Old fashioned Pakora was luke warm and bland. Chicken pakora was nice. Lettuce a few days old and wilting. Tikka masala tasteless. Lamb dish was under cooked but the sauce was nice. Rice fluffy, nan fresh but could gave been crispier. Overall a basic indian feast.

Lovely place and food. Can be better if portion sizes get bigger.

The worst experience in terms of service, Joe was not at all welcoming he made me feel uncomfortable,he was mumuring something and when I asked back all ok he stopped,me and my friends felt so uncomfortable that we had to leave.

Best indian food I have had nationwide. Very fresh. Tasted so authentic and homemade. Well done. Will be back.

The food was amazing, highly recommend. They accommodated an event space for us which was very helpful and staff were helpful throughout the day. We will definitely be going back there again.

Unfortunately,the food didn't meet my expectations.The butter chicken lacked flavour and was extremely oily.The naan was cold and seemed like it had been sitting out for a while.And some delivery drivers was saying that the kitchen is completely dirty and I can suggest to new customers that please don't eat from this dirty restaurant

Really really good curry. Very authentic and enjoyed it tremendously. Went with my wife and manager told us to share two half dishes (yes they have that option) so we got to try two dishes and the taste left us licking our fingers. Naan was also amazing. We asked if they had just normal Malai kulfi and they did - again was brilliant.

Just had the most amazing birthday meal here with all my family and friends- the food was excellent and the service outstanding!! They were so helpful from start to finish amazing with all the kids and we cannot thank our waiter Daryl enough who made everything perfect. The back room is perfect for big parties as you really feel you have your own private area and they even let us put up balloons and kept the cake 🎂 in the fridge until after the meal. We will definitely be back

On a vacation from India, the food here is a blessing, especially the Aloo chaat...really had me go Aaahhhh...Desi food and you are happy ! Great food...finger lickinglicious!!!

This is one of the restaurants I visit in Edinburgh for the last 25 year. The food is simply at another level altogether and they make the best Dal Makhani in town! First brought here by Indian colleagues and then repeatedly suggested by others when Inwas asking, looking for perhaps something different. Very strongly recommended!

The Kahani was a great place to do a group booking - they did a buffet menu for us all and it is also BYOB. The only thing that was not mentioned is that there is a 35p recycling charge for any bottles left over.

Great food! Really authentic! some dishes are very homestyle which is super for Indians looking for that flavor or folks that want to step out of the tikka masala train. Can’t rec enough!

Lunch menu at £14.95 very good value for money as the portions are massive so you need to be hungry! We had the vegetable pakora, fish pakora for starters, and the lamb jalfrezi, chicken korma and dal tarka, All delicious! Staff super friendly, lovely interior, five stars highly recommend!

Service was ok and the food was a bit below average. We ordered 2 lassis, fish kolliwada (appetizer) lamb biryani tandoori roti and chicken chilli South Indian style Birayani is supposed to be layered but this biryani was more like a pullao. The curry that it came with was bland. Tandoori roti was thin and chicken curry was just ok. Lassi didn’t taste that great either.

The food was very tasty, with portions that were just right and the service was attentive. Since the restaurant is very popular, it was quite full - which is of course really nice, but the acoustics made it very loud. Still a great restaurant!

Finding happiness is finding food! We were walking passed this restaurant and smell of food came out upon standing at their front door while me and my friend were checking the menu, so we gave it a try! Had a satisfying food experience especially the food options we were looking for. We are very thankful for Shahid and his crew who served us their best, politely and timely. If you are finding Indian cuisine, this is a defo. the meal definitely made me feel home, missing bits of Dubai.

This review will be short and sweet The food was amazing. The depth of flavour in the dishes was just fantastic. All 4 of us that dined here were happily silent as we tucked into our food. My only issue was that we should've ordered more nan bread to soak up all that delicious sauce we had left over 😁 Food was served up quickly and was piping hot. This is an ideal place for a pre or post theatre bit of food. As its literally 2 mins down the road from The Playhouse. Can't recommend this place enough. And I'll be heading back as soon as I can. 👌

Great food but a bit expensive!

We came here for ginger tea but order other items as well because the food and atmosphere was looking great. We ordered Pakora chat, hot chocolate brownie as well. Both were amazing. We definitely recommend this place

The restaurant is wonderful, the food is delicious and clean, and the workers are very helpful, especially the employee Qureshi. You can ask them to reduce the pepper in the food. After eating, I ask for salty yoghurt. It is very nice. Everything was perfect. If only outdoor seating was provided, it would be more beautiful than the inside.

The restaurant is nice and its owners are respectable and clean people. It has nice outdoor seating, but it was a little cold. We went inside. The employee (witness), I think his name is, was very nice and we asked for the food not to be spicy, and in fact all the dishes were very mild and delicious. We ordered biryani, chicken masala, and Hyderabadi chicken, and the food was delicious. We ordered salty yogurt, and it was excellent and had a cumin flavor 😍 Overall worth a try

We had lots of lovely food here, the service was absolutely excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The experience was so good that we came for dinner two nights in a row. Highly recommend the fish pakora, best we've ever had by far. The lamb was beautiful as well as the mixed platter, every dish we had was lovely. We will definitely be dining here again.

Best BOYB Indian I've had for a long time! Very busy but service and speed of food delivery was excellent!

We were at the restaurant this evening. All the dishes, including the ice cream for dessert, were really the finest. We were able to get the wine from the neighboring restaurant and enjoy it in Kahani, as the innkeeper probably doesn't sell alcohol in the restaurant because of his religious views. Hats off!! We would like to say a big thank you to the entire team at the restaurant. We will recommend you. Price-performance was awesome

This is a very cute restaurant, being a vegetarian it is sometimes hard to find good taste Indian food but here we found a very well natured people and totally a yumm tasting Indian food… The craving for your home like food totally fulfills here.. Everything here is on point, the variety of food, the pricing and the atmosphere… it felt so amazing… we visited twice here… highly recommend visiting it..

Last night in the UK & our son wanted Indian food; Kahani was a great find - the food was tasty, the service was friendly, prompt AND, you could bring in your own beverages. We had curry, jalfrezi, biryani and onion bhajis - all delicious.

Excellent Indian restaurant. The food is excellent, the service is pleasant and fast. Toilets very clean and well maintained. Definitely worth a visit if you fancy Indian cuisine.

The taste is okay, but the prices are exaggerated and you should pay attention to the bill before paying because they are fraudulent.

Start to end the experience was brilliant. We never booked anywhere and came across this cracking wee place. Service was incredible very friendly staff. The food was so good and couldn't fault it at all. My wife and daughter however got locked in the toilet haha

!!! ATTENTION ALL INDIANS !!! If you are staying in Edinburgh and you really want authentic Indian food, this is THE place. Everywhere else I've been has had a weird British-y taste to it, but not this place. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and there is a true Hindustani ambience. For a lovely homelike experience, Kahani is the best. Authentic food, staff, and atmosphere. 10/10

Thinking kahani the busiest restaurant in edinburgh and wondering quality of their food is top quality but got suprise after seeing their quality of food. I order lamb chop main got all lamb chop burnt it was tasteless can't even eat one piece of lambchop due to burnt Pieces are also not standard. Prices are very high compare to other I understand cost to recover but atleast should be worth paying but its not worth. Definatley this is my first and last order from this restaurant.

The food was so delicious. The staff was so accommodating. We were served by Purshotam. I highly recommend the lamb biryani.

Came here for food. Service was terrible. Staff were very rude to us. Terrible communication skills. Only good thing about this place was the food. Far too crammed, think it needs to be more spaced out. Would not recommend from our experience.

Great Indian food and friendly service!

Previously had pepper tikka monkfish in restaurant and amazing - so thought would try as take-away. Also had tandoori King prawn + aloo chana chaat (all 3 as starters) and still fantastic restaurant quality + great portions, so enough for next day!

I have been coming here with my family for the last ten years and it’s so delish. The starters omg!!! and the mango lassi is so good. the paneer kahari is rlly good!!! can’t recommend it enough tbh

Always Brilliant. Been many times since it was Kushi"s, never had a bad meal. Multiple visits later and over 20 years of visiting (in different premises) It remains my go-to for a curry in Edinburgh

Restaurant is not family friendly the asked us that, the kid should be quiet, otherwise we are not welcome.

Second worst curry I've ever had, food was all ready within 5 mins of ordering ( must have had a few microwaves going at the same time), wrong food brought to the table but no apology.... Asked if we wanted to order some aswell as... Member of staff walked Over picked up my bag and moved it himself so he could seat more customers (despite them saying they didn't want to sit there), staff told me they don't serve alcohol (fair enough), said I could bring my own (again fair enough) after fetching drinks from tesco one of the party opened a bottle coke that he bought from the shop and was told he wasn't allowed to drink it in there 😂 Overall they're absolutely rubbish in there, won't be returning

The food was good, but they are not friendly ! We didn’t feel welcome!

Great stop in! A big place so you’re likely to find a seat, they have rooms separated off so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming or loud. We ordered Chicken Jalaferizi and the Spicy Chicken something, 2 orders of rice, and Nan. We left plenty full and couldn’t finish. The Jalaferizi had a good spice and flavor. You will definitely want your own rice. Service was great. A lot of options on the menu.

Very crispy and tasty Naan and Roti! The kadahi paneer and bengan bharta were flavorful and spicy! Also appreciate that they let us in during closing hours. If you are in Edinburgh and missing Indian food, go try them!

We've been a few times and the food is always amazing. Yesterday we ordered takeaway, the food was great and the delivery man was super lovely! The restaurant also called us to confirm it was ok that one of my partners allergens was in one of my dishes which we really appreciated.
