Lovely atmosphere , good food and friendly staff. Overall good experience and value for money. This is our 4th visit. Good variety of drinks on pump.

What an excellent little find this was! Beautiful pub doing a truly excellent Sunday Roast that was well priced and worth every penny. No-one went away hungry and there were even a few morsels left over when we couldnt manage another bite, an almost miraculous occurance for our family! Many thanks to both the front of House and kitchen teams for hosting is fro such a lovely Sunday lunch and for fitting us in and moving things around to accommodate a larger than average group at less than 24 hours notice. The beer was also kept very well. Would recommend anyone visiting the area to give this place a go.

Basically, this was the best Sunday lunch in years . The roast beef was plentiful and perfect . Green vegetables and carrots were cruncny, not soggy . Lovely roasties and creamy mash Everything was home made , hot, fresh and of very good quality .A Yorkshire pudding to die for and loads of gravy in a little jug, brought with the meal . Friendly staff served the meal very quickly and efficiently . Extremely good value , too . We will return !!!!

Called in at tea time, couple of drinks were fine, ordered wild mushrooms tagliatelle and the gammon, sent the mushroom tagliatelle back twice as the tagliatelle was not cooked, both times hard. Never got chance to try the gammon as we left. We did pay in full for two meals we didn’t eat, bar staff apologised but nothing more than that they were happy to take our money. I would avoid the food. Very disappointed with the experience.

I visited for the first on Friday night. A very friendly and welcoming local pub, even when a new face comes in! We had the three course Christmas menu and it was delicious. Fresh, hot, presented nicely and tasty. The bar stocks a good variety of drinks including local ales. The staff were all very attentive and accommodating of our needs. The lady with the dark hair (maybe the manager) was very engaging with everyone. Dogs and children were milling around the place too. Was really nice to see everyone having a good time. Will definitely be back, with dog and child in tow next time!

Lovely Sunday lunch enjoyed by everyone. Delicious, hot food, served by friendly, efficient staff and washed down with hand pulled Bradfield Brewery beer. All ages catered for, vegetarian options lovely also. Will definitely return.

Booked for Sunday dinner with friends (and our doggies) after a long winter walk, enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch! Really friendly and efficient staff but the quality of the food is amazing. As a vegetarian I very rarely get to enjoy a full Sunday roast, I usually have to eat pasta or similar but today I enjoyed one of my best ever nut roasts and the rest of the group said the beef was sublime. Beautiful fresh veg, the most famous cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puddings, we can't recommend enough! We'll be planning more walks in this area just so we can come back.

The best pie ever… Called in the rose and crown at lunch time as the pub we initially went to wouldn’t let our small dog in . We received a very warm welcome from Kay and both chose the pie of the day It was without doubt one of the nicest I’ve tasted served piping hot with to die for chunky chips and oodles of yummy gravy Couldn’t believe what amazing value for money We are going back next week for more pie 👍🏻 Thanks

First time at the Rose and Crown. Had Sunday lunch. I can honestly say that the meal was absolutely gorgeous. The best Sunday lunch we've ever eaten out. Plenty of food on your plate, the staff were very friendly, welcoming and professional and the pub itself was very clean. Will definitely be returning.

Usual Thursday outing. First time at the Rose and Crown. First time eating in a pub and only the two of us there. The lady behind the bar was very friendly. Drinks were ordered and brought to the table. Limited menu. However I like a small menu with quality food, rather than a large one with badly cooked food. I had the ploughman's. It was nice but lacked something. I have no idea what, but it was a little underwhelming. Jacs had haloumi (can't spell it. Cheese) why anyone would choose it is beyond me. The salad was tasty and plenty of it. Overall a good experience.

The best Sunday lunch I’ve had in a long time. We came as a family. Everyone enjoyed the meals. We all had a different starter main and dessert. Highly recommend! Staff friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Really impressed with the food and staff here. Me and my partner had a delicious meal; the buttermilk chicken burger and pie of the day - steak and ale. Reasonably priced! The only downside was the selection of beers, we love ales so there was limited choice but beavertown neck oil always goes down well. The staff were lovely and attentive, very polite. Would definitely return :)

Booked in today for Sunday Lunch with my wife, brother, and sister in law. I don’t live too far from the Rose and Crown, I don’t know why, but it’s the first time I have visited, it won’t be the last. The best Sunday lunch I have ever had, (obviously, apart from my mum’s). The beef was beautiful, and the Yorkshire puds, awesome. We’re already planning our next visit. This is now my go to place for Sunday lunch. Cheers guys. Shaun. 👍

The South Yorkshire luncheon Four are back on the road again. Fab lunch and friendly service. We had the grilled tuna steaks, very tasty and well cooked and served on warmed plates.

Ordered a takeaway sticky beef with fat chips, and sausage mushy peas and chips. Chef brought them out to car park and we had a good chat about how he is giving away meals to the vulnerable and elderly. Enjoyed our food and a great way to support local business and the community plus got my tea cooked for me! Win win.

Having a birthday during lockdown is not the best but a massive thank you to Brendan for making my birthday better today with the gorgeous takeaway food we had for tea (especially the onion bhaji's). Mum and dad had fish and chips delivered today and really enjoyed them. They sent a photo and they looked great.

We are regular visitors to the pub both for drinks and food. The food, service, staff, infact everything is top quality. During this lockdown period, Brendan has provided a takeaway service for his food, all strictly within guidelines. Order in the morning, pay in advance by back transfer and arrive at the pub at your alloted time and your delicous food is deivered hot directly to your car. It's our weekly treat! The elderly and vulnerable have also been provided with hot meals free of charge, keep it up Brendan you are doing a great job!

Having seen many good reviews we tried the takeaway service they're offering while on lock down and the food has been excellent! highly recommend the squid and sticky beef but its hard to choose as it's all been lovely ! Looking forward to visiting the restaurant when things are all up and running again !!

We had our first takeaway last night and the Rose & Crown didn’t disappoint! Thank you so much to Brendan for creating this lockdown lifeline, especially for the elderly and vunerable..you’re providing a fantastic service. We visit the Rose & Crown regularly and will continue to use the takeaway service until the doors are open once again and we can all raise a glass to celebrate. Keep up the hard work Brendan and we look forward to another takeaway to celebrate Dads birthday next week ❤️

We eat and drink often in this pub/restaurant under normal circumstances, but on this occasion I have to mention the ingenious idea that Chef Brendan adopted during the Coronavirus pandemic. Not only did he provide a take out service for customers (adhering to strict guidelines - one in one out every 15 minutes) he also provided a number of meals to the elderly and vulnerable free of charge. Brendan is not only a credit to the establishment , he is a credit to our community .... oh and his fat chips are delicious!!!

We eat at this fantastic pub regular, Friday nights, Saturday teas, Sunday lunches. Wish we lived in the beautiful village so we could visit more. But even during Corona Virus, Brendan is preparing 5* takeaway meals of fish and chips, pie, burgers, sticky beef, lasagne, lamb kofta, Halloumi fries and more. Tried most of them now, all delicious! AND he donates over 15 meals weekly to the elderly and vulnerable in the village...FOR FREE!! I mean come on, how amazing is that!!!! Proud to call Brendan a friend x

Well what can I say ...After having elderly parents 84yrs & 77 yrs fancying fish & chips and no fish & chip shops open both around us and both parents on lockdown I needed to try and help them and The Rose & Crown came to the rescue.

Food here is gorgeous! Worth every penny. Ordered and collected as pub is shut for obvs reasons, food was still piping hot 15 minutes after collection. Highly recommend, compliments to the chef xx

Due to the lockdown and in need of a break from cooking, we decided to put an order in for fish and chips on Friday, so glad we did. They went down a treat, cooked to perfection and we certainly did not go hungry with the size of the portions! Thank you so much for offering this service, we will be ordering again for sure, more than likely this coming week.

As we couldn’t go out for my husband’s birthday, we went for the next best thing. Takeaway from his favourite pub. This was a great decision, they are taking government advice extremely seriously and it was run like a military operation. I ordered via facebook,l. Once this was confirmed I was given bank details to transfer the money as well as my time slot for the evening and a phone number to call on arrival. My husband collected. He drove to the pub, called the number and then opened his boot. The takeaway was then put inside. No contact at all. We had squid to start which was delicious. Followed by Stilton burgers. The food was, as always excellent and made with great quality and local ingredients! Would highly recommend to anyone ready for a break from their own cooking/a treat during these crazy times!

We love coming here , the food is always amazing. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The menus change so you never get bored of the same food.

Had fish and chips last night from the take away menu - have to say this was not your average fish and chip shop - it was much better - as good as the food we have had their restaurant. Delicious fat chips crispy battered fish and succulent mushy peas .. perfection on a plate or in a box as it was served.

The pub has transformed itself into a Fish and Chip takeaway during the Coronavirus pub closures, and we made use of this facility yesterday. The food was excellent, far better than a normal chip shop and at very reasonable prices. They also do a few things that you would not find in a chippy, such as sticky chilli beef, which was really very good.

Very friendly atmosphere, staff are lovely and very welcoming and helpful. Great prices and great food. Would definitely recommend this place and I'll definitely be going back.

Fantastic customer service from the minute we enter to leaving

Myself and my wife have eaten out here twice over the last few weeks and have throughly enjoyed both occasions. We were greeted both times by the friendly staff and assume the owner as soon as we walked in the door. We felt very well attended to as we were talked through the menu and specials board by the enthusiastic and knowledgeable chef/owner and would imagine if you are undecided what to order he would be able to take you through any aspect of the menu. I have had the mixed grill on both visits and have finished the plate both times. I will stick by my comment to the chef/owner it is the best mixed I have had. My wife had the Chicken breast in a Diane sauce first time, and the Hake from the specials board second time and said they were both delicious. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back and will definitely recommend it to friends.

We were a group booking for my nephew's birthday. Some of the meals were ok, e.g. the burger, however some, in particular the chicken, were small portions, not cheap in price and of mediocre quality. A couple of orders were wrong, and a couple had things missing, one of which we asked for and another that we didn't bother as there was nobody to ask. We were in a room at the side and were left to our own devices (which was fine) but also were left waiting ages at "our side" of the bar on more than one occasion. It was a shame because we had previously had a nice meal here last December. We also had to pre-order the meals as well two days in advance which limited our choice as we didn't get to see the specials. All in all, not the best experience this time.

Had Sunday lunch here with a friend and her little girl and was thoroughly impressed. We had booked a table and when we arrived our table was ready so we were seated straight away. Service was brilliant and pretty quick to say how busy it was. Nothing was too much trouble. My friends little girl is only 18months old but we ordered her a Sunday dinner from the children’s menu and even though the Yorkshire pudding was nearly bigger than her she ate it all and even Ice cream after! The food was amazing best Sunday dinner I’ve had in a while we will definitely be returning. Looks like a lovely place to sit outside when the weather picks up and there’s a little play area round the back for the children.

Obviously the pub had been very busy as several of the items on the Menu were no longer available so choice was restricted. The medallions ordered supposedly fillet steak - which if it was, was of very very poor quality - in fact one on the diners meals ended up looking like a rung out dishcloth. Staff were consulted and the diner got a free pudding??? Satisfactory outcome I think NOT.

Dined here for Sunday lunch.Disappointed with the beef.Left most of it due to it being fatty and very chewy.Some veg seemed like it was cooked from frozen.

We eat here regularly and the food is always, without exception, fantastic! The menu is comprehensive with something for everyone and the specials board is brilliant. Super cosy gorgeous pub, with great wine list and excellent staff and service. Brendan , the owner, takes so much pride in every aspect and this shows with the level of service and care provided. Would definitely recommend a visit. The cod fishcake is perfection (but so is everything to be honest)

Stopped by for lunch and as always are welcomed like best friends. This pub/restaurants is so cosy. Brendon who owns the pub is so friendly and always stops for a chat and to check what you are eating. We devoured lamb shank in rich gravy with mashed potatoes and fresh veg. I had a fish cake starter with mixed salad and coleslaw. Drink range is fab from gins to real ale. We can’t recommend this place enough. Its just fab.

We visited on the 1st February for my mum's 70th birthday. The food was absolutely outstanding and staff were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be returning

Best food by a mile round here, the quality is amazing and reasonably priced. The star of the show is Lauren she runs the front of house and between her and the chef/owner Brendan running the kitchen the results speak for themselves! 10/10

We visited for a meal on New Year’s Eve, the atmosphere was warm friendly and inviting. Our party of 4 all chose steak, all cooked to different degrees, all 4 were fantastic and we all agreed it was the best steak we had eaten.

My friend had eaten here before but I hadn't. Really lovely old pub. Lady behind the bar was very friendly.

Just enjoyed a delicious meal with friends, ended up having 3 courses as the desserts sounded great as well.

Quite a regular at the R&C; now, the pub, the food and the staff are all lovely! The 2 course Rose offer is great value too. Simply can’t be beaten locally! Top nosh...

My son worked there for between 6-8 weeks got treated like rubbish by all staff and in the end couldn’t take it anymore, he’s been waitin from the 7th November for approx £100 of wages, there food maybe good but I wouldn’t wanna visit a place that didn’t respect any staff members

Seven bedraggled walkers enjoyed a cracking lunch in this warm and friendly pub. My starter from the specials board, scallops with chorizo and black pudding fritters was exceptional - well beyond your average pub food. The steak and ale pies were large and delicious. We shall return.

Had heard good things about this pub so decided to try it for lunch with a friend. The pub decor is very nice and we were given a warm greeting. We had the fish and chips and halloumi kebab which were both very nice. I prefer my fish without the skin left on but nevertheless I enjoyed it.

I wanted a pub that served food all day, which is not so easy nowadays, plus it needed to be close to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and be dog friendly. The reviews led me to the Rose and Crown. What a treat from the minute we arrived, made to feel very welcome, fire roaring, locals and bar staff very chatty and couldn't do enough for us, even went to the local shop for some mini cheddars for the dog! Great beer, lovely wine, and best of all the food was lovely, well cooked, very fresh and huge portions. We stopped a few hours to enjoy the whole cheery experience, the dog loved the fire. We will be back for sure. Many thanks!

Lovely and warm pub with good atmosphere. Fairly quiet when we arrived but within 1/2 hour started filling up with diners. We only ordered a starter but it was certainly enough for 2 to share. Plenty of locals coming in and is obviously dog friendly. Easy parking right outside in tarmac carpark

We revisited after the refit and new owner. Can I say how much we enjoyed our lunch. When we entered the pub we were greeted with a warm room and good atmosphere. Now the food, we chose from the specials board and main menu, I can recommend the rump hearts. All serve hot and on warm plates, the best pub or restaurant meal I've had in months. Good friendly service, we four had a good conversation with the owner/cook. Will be back very soon. Good Luck.

Visited on Monday this week, quiet being a Monday lunchtime. The food was excellent, three ladies had the Gammon with all the trimmings. It was delicious the nicest meal I have had out for a long time. The pudding too was excellent but was quite full from the main course so could not finish it all. The service was excellent, treated with respect and courteous. Nothing was too much trouble. Ten out of ten all round.

We have been enjoying the culinary delights that Chef Brendan has to offer since he opened the Rose and Crown. Joined on several occasions with friends who have also enjoyed the ambience with us. Wide seasonal variety on the menu, with a good choice of wine and beers to accompany our meals. I have no qualms in recommending this venue, as well as looking forward to continuing to enjoy our visits to the Rose and Crown as a couple our with friends.

We were on a bit or a bar crawl and started and finished here because it was just opposite the bus stop. Nice beer and nice friendly staff.

Went here for a meal last night and the food was some of the best I’ve had in a long time. I was spoilt for choice with the menu but the staff were very knowledgable and recommended the fillet steak. I ordered it rare and it was cooked perfectly. After a starter of southern fried halloumi fries followed by my steak with thick cut home made chips I was very full but still couldn’t resist dessert. The staff were great and cut me a thin slice & gave me the rest to take home.

Our son chose the Rose and Crown to celebrate his 21st birthday. On the day my wife visited early to put some decorations up in the room we had been allocated, and the chef was very helpful asking if there was anything we were interested in eating and were there any particular cuts of steak as he would go and buy for us.

Fab Sunday lunch for all the family! Beef and pork was cooked to perfection. Homemade Yorkshire puddings and fresh delicious selection of potatoes and vegetables. We were spoilt for choice with the homemade dessert selection and there was a large choice of drinks at the bar. The pub is very welcoming and we were looked after by polite and helpful staff. The kids loved the outdoor play area and chalking on the boards, plus there was a bouncy castle. Bonus!! We will 100% be booking again soon. Thanks guys

My boyfriend and I visited the R&C; again on Monday night and once more I could not fault it. The food (both from the specials board and menu) were well cooked, delicious, large portions and a good price. The service was just right and there was a large choice of drinks. It was spotlessly clean and the atmosphere was just right after a stressful day at work. The last time I visited was for Sunday lunch with my children. It made such a difference to have all home cooked food. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. The children also loved being able to play in the children's area and on the bouncy castle. R&C; is well worth the drive out to. It is a lovely place and caters for everyone and the home cooked food never lets you down. Thank you!

Visited for Sunday lunch and it was nice. The pork had a lot of fat on it. Yorkshire puddings gorgeous, as was the cauliflower cheese (nicest we’ve had in a restaurant). Roasties nice and veg tasty. We then decided to visit the day after. I had the rump and ribeye hanging kebabs. The fries were beautiful, lovely coleslaw and salad and the veg on the kebabs were very tasty, but the steak was so tough, you could hardly get your knife through it. When I told the waitress she just replied saying that’s what rump and ribeye are like. She offered to do me another one but I’d already waited half hour and was starving. We both thought that they had warmed old beef up, 2 pieces of it you could have used as a cricket ball. Such a shame as the rest of the food impressed, but I don’t want to pay £13 for chips and salad.

First time visiting the Rose and Crown, won't be my last. We have some lovely places to eat in the vicinity of Silkstone where I live, but I think this is now the best! Visited for Sunday lunch as my parents were up from Staffordshire for a visit. I had pate to start - huge amount of pate, lovely crostini and onion chutney to accompany it. Followed this with the Roast beef, which was perfectly pink, lovely thick slices, huge (I mean huge!!) Yorkshire pud, loads of vegetables, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese..... I was so stuffed!!! It was beautiful.

Well what can I say .... friendly staff , great food . Excellent value for money. Will definitely return and would recommend giving this place a try if you haven’t already .

This meal was better than, what mum could make... Better than grandma could make in fact better than the two together could have made!
