Don't know where some of these reviews are coming from. I am a regular customer from when Richardson's opened, and I can truly say never had a bad experience. Staff always friendly, fish and chips great and portions are also great and not overpriced. And open Bank holidays. Thanks for your service.

Like all chip shops a bit expensive.

Great fish and chips. I'd say my favourite of any that I've used locally - and I've tried plenty. Sensible portions, freshly cooked food, crispy batter, tasty chips, and lovely curry sauce. Fantastic.

Enjoyed the food but the lasses behind the counter was not pleasant or helpful did not enjoy the customer experience

£2.65 for a smallbag of chips is an absolute joke won’t be coming back until you start lowering your prices at least Robin Hood wore a mask

As another reviewer has clearly pointed out before me, these chips are clearly not fresh and definitely not the finest! Majority of chips are either black or green and taste gone off, stay away and save yourself the stomach ache! It should clearly be investigated!

Great fish and chips. Meal deal is a bargain

Food was very good, red hot still when we got it home and really tasty. Fish, chips and curry sauce all top notch. Shame they don’t do pies anymore, but can’t grumble with the food and the service we got.

We've been looking a while for a good chip shop whilst driving out we noticed this one got scallops, few chips and a splash of curry sauce it was lovely, so went back got a different meal and again nice We've been a lot now and yes still nice and hot every time plus polite staff, it's well worth the drive from BD12

Staff was very rude and grumpy. Spoke to us terribly, clearly didn’t want to be at work was sighing when I was choosing which drink I wanted. Very snappy and spoke to me with attitude, especially when I didn’t hear her correctly so I asked her to repeat herself. Very very poor customer service. Shouldnt be working if you can’t be bothered.

Wow - just passing through and decided on giving this family fisheries a shot …. I’ve tasted A Lot of Fish & chips but this little gem of a shop is the best I’ve ever tasted - Fish was cooked beautifully with a nice golden , crispy batter and my chips had that good old tasty, traditional flavour. The service from staff was outstanding. I would 100% recommend if you are nearby or passing .

I have travelled up from birmingham to visit my gran, I treated her to haddock and chips amazing food cooked fresh on the spot. Noticed a young girl working very hard packing orders. The guy throwing fish in the fryer could help out a little more 👍

Best fish and chips in Cleckheaton!

Generally I’m 100% happy with my order. Sadly, not today. When you’re paying north of £20 I’d expect it to be perfect. My order was not complete as they did not include the two bread cakes that I ordered. The food was also warm at best, which is frustrating as they usually get it spot on. It felt like, which this being a late-ish order, not as much care was taken. The shop was already cleaned down by the time I came to pick up my order. Such a shame as they usually get it absolutely spot on

I ordered a medium fish and chips, the same as the person in front of me. The fish they gave me was literally half the size the one they gave to the other person. This was after I waited probably 15 minutes in total from entering (there were only two people in front of me). If my fish was a medium, what size is a small? It's very disappointing because the fish and chips are cooked well. It's the second time I've been annoyed going here, the last time when they wanted to charge me £2.40ish to have a handful of chips on top of a fish butty.

My wife picked up food from here for our tea I wanted a fish cake and when she got home the potatoes was raw absolutely fuming

Nice little chippy, a bit on the expensive side but it is worth it, they tend to do the majority of stuff you would get in a traditional fish shop, Chips are nice and fresh along with the fish, you can pre order and they also accept Card and contactless

A straight forward fish and chip shop. Some sides and kids meals available but no butties. Large portions. You have to order once you arrive so they can drop your food and serve you quickly. It's a small shop with room to stand and wait. Take-out only. There are no tables and chairs available. Service was fairly quick and is open later than most. Affordable, order was correct, and the fish and chips was good.

Just had fish and chips for lunch and, I have to say, they were wonderful.

Iv won bigger fish at the fare and chips I could count them on one hand

Awful chippy ! ☹️chips where like rubber uncooked and raw! Gravy had no flavour good it was a small portion ( chips and gravy for £4.20) It was less to through away in the bin! Edited after reply: Hello Owner! i can only say how disappointed i was after seeing such a lovely marketed fish and chip shop saying chip shop of the year! and a very attractive shop front i was expecting good food! so it was just lunch i didn't want much so simple chips and gravy would be enough! so when eating chips that where undercooked and gravy with no flavour was such a let down i felt a review was needed if only to let you know you need to try harder or be constant in the cooking processes you have in place!

Raw chips - inedible. Been using for for years. Same 3 out of last 5 times. Such a shame as really nice when cooked. Too much money to end in bin.

I used to work in Cleckheaton and visited Richards Family Fisheries fairly regularly, never had a bad experience, the fish were always literally straight out of the fryer, crispy batter and fish that just fell apart it was so tender. Don't know why people have complained about the staff, they were always friendly and polite. Unfortunately my new job has moved me well away from Cleck and over here in Calverley theres nothing that comes close. Best chippy in Cleck by a mile.

Very expensive and food is not nice at all. Portion sizes are ridiculously small for the price you pay. Worst chip shop in area

Decided on this place for tea. Gotta say, very disappointing. Doesn't really taste of anything. Not sure how they won any awards. Fish has no taste, chips were very pale. Did not feel welcome by any staff besudes the lovely brunette who took my order, she was very nice. But the rest just rudely glared at me and made me feel very unwelcome. Won't ever visit again, not worth it. Rather go to my regular "Wyke Fisheries" (was closed or I would have already) where it tastes like fish !

Fish and chips were quite nice. My son enjoyed the sausage and chips.. hmm friendly staff. Downside is a bit expensive. Could be the situation we are in.

Excellent cooked fish and chips won many awards Still continues to provide excellent quality food and back to "normal" Hard times... It's no longer a "cheap" go to meal at £8 for fish n' chips. I can see lots of chip shops closing.

Not bad at all but too expensive

Been here a couple of times now, enjoyed fish and chips and last time a chip butty that was HUGE lol. The shop is spotless and the food very good. Bonus, there is parkingand tables and chairs outside where you can eat your meal. Recommended.

Had fish and chips with curry sauce. It was amazing, fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was nice and crispy. The chips were tasty and the curry sauce is the best I've had. The portion size was huge too.

Went to this place as my usueal place was closed wish i hadnt bothered now . The cake was so HARD like it had been warmed up. !!! I almost broje a tooth .not worth the money. !!!

I was always looking forward to trying this shop as I had heard it had a good reputation. I was very disappointed. From the moment I walked into the shop I felt a tension and atmosphere in the air. None of the customers were acknowledged. There was a rude and impolite female serving. She did her best not to converse with any of the customers. I could tell the other customers felt uncomfortable and I almost walked out. If it wasn’t for having my family with me I would have walked away. I heard one customer ask for scraps which she was met with “don’t have any” despite there being some on view. The female serving made the whole experience uncomfortable and I was made to feel that I was not welcome. When we got home the chips were very poor. I have taken a photograph to show the selection of chips we had. There was a strange taste to the oil in the batter. We will not be going again and will nit recommend this to anyone.

I was very disappointed with my visit tonight. There was a very uncomfortable atmosphere in the shop. The female serving was very rude and not accommodating. The chips were of a very poor standard. I will not be returning. Very sad

Always good quality food here nice staff and I would recommend ordering on line then you can just bypass the queue and pick it straight up

I didn't have the fish, but the chips were delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. . The batter was so crunchy and light (Scallops), wish I'd had a fish now. .

It's ok, I always seem a bit disappointed with the amount of food I get for my money. Last time I had the all steak pie and counted 3 small pieces of steak.

You can order on Facebook and collect at chosen time, or just turn up for friendly and efficient service

Food is consistently good, only bad thing is I think its overpriced. There is a balance between quality and value for money.

Lovely, lovely fish and chips, the premises are freash and clean. Ive been a few times and they are very consistent. Halloumi bites are pretty good. There's plenty of other options on the menu including kids meals that come with a toy and activities, all at a very reasonable price

Usually get a poachedfishwhich isn't on the menu but if you ask for it they will do it for you, the portions are better now than 12 month ago, so worth a visit, staff are very friendly and price is average

I called into Richards on Wednesday or Thursday of last week, I forget which now. I had previously used Richards and had only been put off by the complicated and somewhat user unfriendly online order only system the introduced in the first lockdown. Since times have moved on from then and as I have frequently driven past feeling the "Fish shop of the year" banner drawing me in, I thought I would give them a go again. I ordered a fish butty, the fish was very well cooked, lovely and flakey white, the batter was very good, crisp and golden. All in all, it would be very unfair and difficult to give Richards anything less than 5 stars if it wasn't for the associated price tag, they are noticeably more expensive than most of the other local Fish shops, even over the price of 1 fish butty and in fairness their fish appear to be smaller than the fish size served at some of the other local Fish shops.

It pains me to write this, as in the current climate everyone needs help to survive. The food is great, its not expensive as others have said but (as a local myself just like the person below) it is well know to locals that a particular member of staff is extremely rude to customers, but the last time I went in it was obviously my turn to be spoken to like something I could have stepped in, and as a very regular customer I'm not paying for that treatment - So I wont go be going in again. Because of Covid people are scared to go out and places are closing, so businesses should be extremely thankful of customers. Its a real shame but I think its time for a big change in this chip shop.

As a family, between us we must visit this place on a weekly basis and I can honestly say have never had a bad meal, they are good fish and chips, however they should be given the prices they charge. Unfortunately, of late I have noticed a bit of abruptness coming from behind the counter and after tonight’s experience I won’t be returning. As a grown man I won’t put up with being shouted at to wait outside the premises until called in especially when there’s no signs to that effect, when all said and done we are in strange times and I’m prepared to deal with any safety policies in place wherever I visit. On re entering I’m told they have a 4 people policy in place, hence the reason I was told to wait outside. Problem was there was 7 customers in the shop at the time I was sent out, when this was mentioned some silly old bat muttered something about common sense, but unfortunately she couldn’t grasp that she hadn’t followed her own employers guidelines as she was too busy talking to her fishwife mate haha. Yep I won’t be coming back here....... By the way went to Mother Hubbards in Batley instead and they were best Fish n chips I’ve had in ages and very reasonably priced as well. They had correct signage and everything👍👍

This was my first time to order from them. The staff were friendly & efficient & the service quick so their anticipation of lunch time traffic is good. Fish was crispy, fresh & juicy. Chips were fresh & what I expected. I can recommend them & will definitely return. One of the nicest take away fish & chips I've had!

Just popped in for a quick fish and chips meal and i have to say the meal was delishious as well as the chinese curry sauce. I'll Defenetly be coming back here again

7th September 2020 travel from dewsbury as there really good. But won't be back after today's visit usual get special fish and chips but we were hungry so ordered normal size portion how dissapointing exactly same size portion ! Curry sauce was sweet too very expensive for what we received. You've lost our regular custom .

Ordered and paid for online Friday 1st May, 2 x fish and chips, 1 portion of peas, total £13.50! The fish were different sizes, one was dry and scrappy, the other was greasy, and one portion of chips were mostly scrappy and inedible. The owner needs to review his online prices as it appears that buying fish and chips at (£6.25), it would be cheaper buying them separate, ie fish (£4.05 and chips £1.55) = £5.60! Very disappointed after reading the good reviews.

Wasn't impressed chips very dry and hard , £4.40 , chip barn + small drink , not cheap.

The fish was good and the scraps were excellent. The chips while ok had been in the warmer a bit too long. Probably just the time of day, there were not many people around. Well worth giving Richards a go.

Recently moved to Cleckheaton. £3.90 for fish - fish was small. £2.10 for chips...small portion too. Gravy was average tasting. Bread cakes had hardly any better. £7.65 for a small, average fish and chips. Not good value for money at all. So disappointing....

I thought the way the staff spoke to customers was very rude. Not professional at all. Was not happy with service
