Ricefields in Basildon

Terrible food arrived cold! The curry sauce and sweet and sour sauce like water no flavour to any of the other dishes beef was so chewy it all ended up in the bin…. Avoid!!

Every container only a quarter full. Ordered against better judgement and advice in hope of a bargain .Greasy oven chips. Szechuan beef was like microwaved beef in tomato soup. salt and pepper chicken was 4 pathetic iceland nuggets in onions and salt and pepper . Could’ve done a better job at home with a Wok on a candle . Don’t recommend .

This place is not even good enough for a 1 star rating. Food delivered over 40 min late. Food was tasteless and barely warm. Ordered chicken and mushroom and Chicken beef and lamb and both had prawns in which is an allergy issue to someone allergic to seafood. When I went in to complain the staff don’t care. My wife was violently sick after eating part of the food. This place needs to be closed down, it used to be lovely with fantastic food. Avoid this place at all costs unless you want food poisoning.

Won’t be ordering again we ordered 1/4 duck and got enough duck for 1 pancake the rest was bone and fat no kidding! I got kung po chicken and the sauce was definitely the Chinese sweet chilli sauce from the bottle! Also ordered king prawn fried rice and was tiny prawns in tasteless plain rice wan yum no wins hands down!!

Changed ownership and now absolutely disgusting. Food was so poor we took back! Shameful for what was a lovely take away. Staff are rude!

Firstly (no pork) on menu???? I ordered ribs in BBQ sauce as an alternative and it was disgusting ! Lamb ribs that were covered in sloppy sauce and the ribs were just FAT not edible at all! The chicken chow mein was very dry and only a couple of pieces of chicken, the chow mein looked like leftovers. Actually very disappointing the girl on the till when you order never seems to know what she’s doing.(NEW STAFF) The regular girl, that’s on the till, however, is very pleasant, but the one that I had yesterday and several times before never knows what she’s doing. I hope this Chinese improves!!

This place used to have such a good reputation but it's gone completely downhill. We were told on the phone they no longer have pork because of halal reasons. Special chow mein is only a few pieces of chicken and little prawns, hardly anything in it. Sweet & sour sauce was like water. Everything is also stone cold. Women delivery driver coughing her guts up on our doorstep as she handed over our food was also a turn off. When we contacted them to complain we were told she will contact the owner and possibly have a discount on our next order, but obviously won't be buying from there again.

I recieved what I can only imagine as someone else's leftovers... it was room temperature also. The rest of the food was below average. Don't recommend, spend the extra £10 elsewhere. They did resend the beef but again, not great, plus too late as everything else was getting cold.

Dreadful, ordered @7:50pm said delivery by 9pm. At 9:05 pm it said delivered enjoy your food! I called the restaurant as was concerned to be told my order had not left the shop and it's only 9:05pm. I was then told obviously it's busy, I asked when I could expect my order, the response was I just answer the phone Miss! I don't control the drivers! She then hung up! When the food eventually arrived @9:40pm the chips were over cooked burnt and greasy and everything was cold utterly disgusting!!

Totally awful food. The worst chewy meat and the ribs well if you like bone and fat… never again. Didn’t want to give them even 1 star

Order our meals then got a phone call to tell us they don't sell pork any more. Sp my ribs I ordered are lamb with bbq sauce which made me feel sick eating them. No meat on the ribs just fat! Doesn't feel like I'm eating a Chinese! Also ordered a crab soup and got chicken. Ordered before and they screwed up the order but thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt wish I hadn't!

Absolute joke! Ordered food and drinks, drinks don’t come and food is stone cold. Women on the phone says there is no manager in store and refuses to send my drinks as they are busy. Don’t order from here

Waited over 2 hours for our delivery, every time I called them I was getting the old ‘it’s on its way’ finally it arrived after 9pm freezing cold. Awful place

Absolutely God awful se4vice since they opened the restaurant underneath(?) Ordered Chinese as a treat for my family and it arrived 3 hours later leaving my children starving and up past bedtime. The company has opened a chicken restaurant to cohabit and since doing so do not have the man power to run the place whatsoever Their only redeeming factor is Glenn the delivery man who has been working there years and is always so polite and delivers the food as fast as he gets it, even if he gets it 3 hours after it was ordered.

Food took 55 minutes to arrive for a salt and pepper box. Arrived cold, dry as anything, no flavour for ‘salt and pepper’. Had normal chips not salt and pepper chips Wouldn’t recommend.

Really good food, hot and delivered quickly

The last time I had this the shop front was closed for refurbished so it was delivery only. I never get delivery I always pickup. But on this occasion I had no choice. But I was charged £2.00 for something I didn't no opt for. I live about 1mile from the shop and I didn't ask for delivery. Never the less I paid. The food has never been so bad. I've ordered from here for years with no problem. Pots were underfiled. Chicken curry had a peasants amount of sauce in. The sauce itself was supposed to be a little spicy, at least. It was basically just light brown tasteless liquid. I'm assuming your chefs to taste the food before sending it out? I could go on. I spend £28.00 and have something to say about every dish. I will not be ordering again. I would rather drive to canvey and pickup something from The Village or to wickford f3om New Golden Jade

Delivery is always on time , the curry sauce is a bit on the sweet side for me. Food portions are good too.

i pre ordered at 5.30pm for 8.15pm it was still over a hour late, we kept calling asking where our food was 14 calls later! . still for them to say it wasn’t ready. we finally got our food at 9.20pm and wow, it was freezing the food had a smell to it. items was missing, we called the restaurant for them to say. because they was busy this is why it was like this. and had pure attitude. i asked for a refund and she said because you done it through just eat you have to do it that way, no sorry nothing! then had the cheek to say have a good evening honestly avoid! do not waste your money on this food!!!! i wouldn’t even give them 1 star!! needs shutting down

Food cold and watery when delivered, I only live 5 minute drive from take away so why was my offer cold. 2 meals inedible won’t be using them again £50 if my hard earned money down the drain

Ordered from here twice and both times the girl on the phone has always been lovely and the food is decent like a standard Chinese

Got this delivered via Uber eats. The lady who delivered my food works at the restaurant, she was not an Uber eats driver. She gave me someone elses order, she came back seconds later with my food, however the bag the chicken balls were in was ripped open, and she'd opened my rice and her finger went in it. Right in front of my face. She was checking to see if this was my order. However the receipt was on the bag. she could of read this but she decided to dig through and open my food, she didn't bother doing the rice back up. I didn't eat this as I was too shocked and disgusted at the fact she'd had her fingers in there. She'd been driving in a car with her hands on the steering wheel, I have no idea what germs are on that, and then stuck her fingers in my food. Me and my partner was incredibly busy at the time so we didn't take any photos. We just binned it. Contacted Uber eats and they said theres not much they can do. I didn't provide photos so I totally understand that they can't do anything. However thought I'd come to here instead just to let people know how vile this lady was. I'll be taking it further with the shop itself because it's just a piss take. We don't know where her hands had been. However this is the 2nd time I've ordered from here. I ate the food the first time so I'll comment on that too. Despite being called "rice" fields. The rice is bland as anything. Roast pork friend rice is literally just plan rice with pork and peas. No flavour at all. Chicken balls are greasier then they should be. And the chinese style roast pork was just barely there. About 3 slices in the tub. If the shop reads these reviews. Then please take my advice. Do never pick at peoples orders as a delivery driver. If you was the chef I wouldn't care. But you've have your hands all over the dirty car door handles and steering wheel. It's not on.

The Special Chow Mein wasn't very 'special' at all. 3 prawns, half a dozen shreds of chicken some chewy tasteless onion & some bean sprouts stirred into the noodles. That's it, nothing else.

My favourite Chinese in basildon

Not one to give bad reviews or even to complain. We ordered 3 meals. We requested less onions. It turned up coated in onions, only 4 prawns in the prawn curry. The food was cold and watery. We called up and complained. The receptionist was helpful and understanding and spoke to her manager. We were expecting a refund on at least two of the meals as we couldn't eat them. We were offered just a £5 refund which we find totally unacceptable. Won't be going back

Ordered a delivery ,food arrived hot and we enjoyed our meal very much.

Tonight was a joke Ordered beef Cantonese about 5 bits of beef and just some onions £5.40 Order ribs peeking about 4 thin ribs and some onions £6+ Pancake rolls burnt and full of oil £3 Forgot to include the thai rice £5.70 Vegetable chow main a few bits of veg thats it £5.50 Spent over £30+ tonight and got about £10 worth of food. Hands down a rip off sadly this used to be a good takeaway spot .

Unacceptable waiting time. No sorry, or help from the person that answers the phone, who talks to you like you are wrong to ask where your food is after an hour. ...very rude! They must have lost many customers cos of her! My family will never use again. Be honest & polite to your customers if yo want them to return

Absolutely appalling. Placed an order at 6.55, was told it would be 45 mins - 1 hour for delivery. Two hours later, still not arrived. Called the shop twice to be told it’s with the driver. Still didn’t come. At 9.20 I cancelled the order. Why not say it will be two hours? Could have ordered elsewhere. Will never use again. . In addition, the woman who answers the phone is extremely rude and unhelpful! Avoid at all costs.

We used to order from here when we used to live in basildon and loved it. However since receiving our order today, we will never go back! The food was extremely bland and cold. The prawn dish tasted old. The szechuan chicken tasted like pure sugar. Horrible meal.

Got there about 7.45 on a Friday night. They told me there was a 40min wait on food - it was good they told me. As I was anticipating a long wait, I asked for the TV to be put on, but they told me it wasn't working 😒. Thankfully order was done quicker than they said. Got it home and discovered where I'd asked for chicken curry I'd got chicken chow mein. Bit disappointed but couldn't face going back at end of long and tiring day.

Waited over a hour for our food in store...someone who phone his order through got his before we got ours kept being told "im so sorry won't be long"....sounded like ww3 was going on in the back....ended up getting a refund and walking out

Terrible service since new owner took over ordered delivery service at 6PM on Saturday 24th Feb was told approx 40mins waited 1 hour 10mins and phoned back at 7.10PM was then told sorry been as an busy as an excuse and it was out for delivery will be another 10mins waited again till then phoned back at 7.50PM then was told that there busy and walk in customers get served first before delivery orders and our food was getting cooked now and offered a bottle of wine as compensation for being late which I refused I asked why I was told it was out for delivery on the earlier phone call which was obvious not true the delivery finnaly turned up at 8.20PM which was 2 hours 20mins after first phone call after dishing up food it was nearly cold and the portions much smaller than previous owners. Since then have found out the new owner now use UBER and JUST EAT so as they have stricked delivery times must get delivered before any other orders made direct to Rice Fields. I have been a customer for many years and always been satisfied with quality of food portions and delivery times in the past under original owners but can not recomend Rice Fields anymore so you have been warned.

Reasonably priced and tasty take away

Waited over an hour, when the food was delivered it was just lukewarm; it was horrible, the only eatable dish was sweet and sour chicken; waisted money and time! Very disappointing

Food was really bad Couldn't eat the curry sauce or the mushroom in oyster sauce. Plain chow mein was ok as we're the prawn balls but the sweet and sour sauce tasted like watered down strawberries and thickened up with cornflour??? Also the pork Cantonese style wasn't great either and the prawn crackers some were burnt. Total wast of money won't go there again...it used to be really lovely it's a shame

Ordered food from here a few times now. Every time it has been totally delicious, not a single complaint. Delivery times have been very reliable also. It is far the best chinese in the local area

I was recommended to order from here So I did for the first time, it will also be the last time! Order took an hour and half , I tried to contact them it was impossible , got through once out of the 70 odd times I tried to call they put me on hold then cut me off, I then inconveniently drove there to see where My order was , which defeats the purpose of a delivery! They were not much help Eventually it came , and yeah as I guessed would happen was not worth the money at all , was ok food but not the best Chinese food corringham and grays were better! Anyway like I said won't order again , very poor lack of communication with customers and the worst delivery service I've ever had !! NEVER AGAIN!!

Firstly, I was told delivery would be 1 hour. I waited over two hours. The sweet and sour chicken was just ‘soft’ fried chicken with some sauce thrown over the top. The prawns in the king prawn fried rice still had their veins in it so they were not edible. The beef in the chow mien was basically white and lacked flavour. I gave one star for the wings.

Ordered food from rice fields takeaway was told it would be between 30 minutes to an hour two hours later still waiting phoned them up for at least 30 minutes no answer my son ended up calling them they told him it would be another 30minutes so we cancelled they didn't get our last order right they sent the wrong food will not be using them anymore they didn't have the decency to call and explain what was going on totally disgusted with there responses

Normally buy from ho ho but as this opened an hour earlier we thought we’d give it a try . Mistake was made . Stick with what you know I guess . Oily off tasting food . £40 for that was a big no . This place really shouldn’t be rated so highly .

Beware of food poisoning. Never buying again, their food used to be very good. But tonight we ordered 4 large packs of duck fried rice, king prawn fried rice and special fried rice and the rice had gone bad.

The food is great, fairly priced, and the Lady they have behind the counter is a true asset, polite, friendly and very helpful if you have any questions. My only negative is that the waiting area is in desperate need of a little sprucing up, but to be fair, that not why anyone chooses to order a takeaway from an establisment. Would recommend to anyone reading this.

Not bad for a meal if short of time at least you get a decent amount of sweet & sour sauce not like some take aways, give a meagre amount not even enough for one person. The prawn crackers are not bad either.

I was really impressed delivery took with in 25 minutes food was cooked to perfection i did want a chicken chow mein but they didn't right down but can't fault because the food was spot onbetter then any other place in basildon and I'm a chinesse freak 🤣🤣🤣
