Always one of the highlights of our family holiday! Crazy golf is great fun, the gardens are pretty, the staff are friendly and the refreshments are good quality and reasonably priced (with lots of gluten-free); what’s not to like? Unfortunately opening hours are more limited at the moment (weekends only) due to owner’s ill health - Get Well Soon. Well worth buying the Murder Mystery which is written by a very talented member of staff. It involves a fairly short walk which includes Shanklin Old Village - we discovered places we’ve never found before! - and is good fun with a great prize. We’ll be back!

There’s a quaint tea garden with crazy golf, tucked away within Rhylstone Gardens and you should certainly pay a visit. The grounds are splendid and the service is great. We had a cream tea (with a huge tea pot), overlooking charming gardens, chilled crazy golf and a few pop-up shops. It’s dog friendly (which is always a within with us), and out of pure joy, the staff provide doggy beds and treats. We find it much better value than vernons cottage (down the road), as for the same price, we got 2 scones and more tea. Please pay them a visit. Thoroughly recommended.

Myself and my family visited her today, twice, the first occasion to play crazy golf, which was fun. On ending our game, and on seeing that cream teas were avalable we decided to return, after a walk around the gardens. On our return my wife order two cream teas, I didn't fancy one myself.... On their arrival, the tea pot was huge, and their were two rather large scone, my wife said, she certainly could not manage both scones or all the tea, so she asked if I wanted some, so I asked the young girl serving for extra cups, she cam back with two plate, which I said thank you, but we wanted two Cup, she then very bluntly, replied in such an Manor, " she said if you want more cups you should buy another tea for two, as it meant for tea for two. I was shocked by how she spoke to me, which was a shame and spoilt our whole experience of the visit. Now I must stress it wasn't the fact of buy addition items, the cost was irrelevant, but considering the amount that was supplied, and the volume of tea was enough for about 6 cups...... I would recommend the crazy golf, and the cream teas, but certainly don't dare ask for more cups, otherwise your get the Roth from the staff. I message the rhystone, and the reply was tea for two, was for two only and was thier policy not to supply more Cup,....

The tearoom serves a variety of levels of eating, from jacket potatoes and salad, to nachos, to cream teas to ice creams. We had the 'savoury tea' - 2 lovely cheese scones, cheese and pickle with a cup of tea or coffee - which made a nice change from the tradtional cream tea. The scones were delicious. The whole atmosphere is very relaxed, and you can watch people playing crazy golf while you eat.

This is a pleasant refreshment stop in a wander around the lovely Coastal Isle of Wight Town of Shanklin. One thing about the Isle of Wight is that it is still a place where you can see that native variety of Squirrel, the RED one. And they are showing themselves regularly in the grounds of Rylstone Tea Gardens. The Isle of Wight is not yet invaded by the uninvited and unwanted American Grey Variety of this wonderful animal, which pushes the native RED squirrel out, given the chance. The proprietors of Rylstone Tea Gardens have provided feeding stations to encourage RED Squirrels to appear. They also offer a good hot brew (but not in the American sense of the word) and tasty comestibles on the menu too. So if you want to see something genuinely ENGLISH, and not an American imposter, and enjoy good light refreshment, visit Rylstone Tea Gardens. Major Credit, but not Charge Cards, are accepted.

It may of been the young girl who served us first day at the job,or she may of been told to make tea this way, but who puts water in cup and tea bag in a dish on side? This obviously results in tea that doesn’t brew properly, as by the time you’ve paid and got to your table, the water has cooled. Also, picking cups up by rim to put on tray isn’t really nice as you’ve had fingers where your lips will be drinking. Hopefully this was first day and she hadn’t been told. Was nice pleasant place to sit and listen to the music from the bandstand a bit further over.

Owners were so friendly and the crazy golf was a proper traditional testing course without any dinosaurs or fibre glass in view, instead lots of hand made traditional windmill style heritage holes which were a good leveller for all family members (Dad won by 2 strokes from 9 year old son!)We will be back! So pleased that we followed the signs and strolled into beautiful gardens and found this great tea room. Firstly the relaxed atmosphere, the staff were pleased to serve you and nothing was too much trouble. The food was also very reasonably priced, which was an added bonus from the other extortionate pricey cafes around Shanklin. I had a latte coffee and it was delicious. We sat at a table, surrounded by well loved, well kept shrubs and flowers. A great 18 hole crazy golf course too, so 8 of us , consisting of children and adults decided that this would be a perfect addition to our afternoon. We didn't feel rushed, we had a great time and even got certificates awarded for a 'hole in one'. What a delightful place to visit. The owners, were lovely people, made us feel so welcome too. Everything was clean and no sticky tables here to be seen. Well worth a visit for a great trip back to the good old days, when customers really mattered.... we will be back again.. to this wonderful hidden gem.

We visited Easter weekend. Cafe has been revamped and is much improved on last summer. Much more space between tables and has been generally tidied up etc. Staff all extremely polite and friendly. Only reason we haven't given 5 starts is that the food is very basic, i.e no onions or cheese offered with burgers & chips, no garnish etc, lovely jacket potato but very little cheese. As with lots of cafes, tea/coffee is poured when you order the food and so is stone cold by the time the food arrives. Massively long wait for food but probably because it was their first day of opening. Overall, a lovely little cafe, excellent staff, fun crazy golf, pretty park setting & will definitely look forward to returning but food could be improved with a little more thought/attention to detail.

The cakes are super-fresh and homemade, the sandwiches generous with proper size side-salads and the staff are cheerful, friendly and helpful and happy to let you take your time. It is also very good value and as regular visitors to Shanklin, we always make a point of stopping here. We've been visiting this pretty, tucked away tea garden within Rhylstone public gardens in Shanklin since our daughter was very young (she's now 24) and we're still always keen to go there for lunch or a drink. There are tables in sunny spots or under shelter/umbrellas and the area (hard surface, ideal for prams/wheelchairs) is surrounded by lovely bedding plants in pots and containers with a small crazy golf course in the middle to keep children (and adults) occupied. The food is excellent, typical English tea garden menu, well priced and we have often called on our way back to the mainland for sandwiches/rolls/cakes,etc to eat on the way back. The staff are always pleasant and helpful and we feel we always get value for our money. You may even see a red squirrel or two in the trees which shelter the gardens. To find this little oasis, take the path at the side of the Chine by The Crab Inn and go up the steps on the left after the top entrance to the Chine. Alternatively continue on the path and turn left onto the lawned area of the public gardens and the tea garden entrance is diagonally opposite. Afterwards, continue on round on one of the paths to Rhylstone Manor from where you can access a cliff top path with great views across Sandown Bay and forms to sit on. I believe there are also events in the public gardens from time to time but I have no current details. I wish I had photos to post on this site, its full of colourful planting for most of the year.
