Visited lunchtime and the dog friendly bar was busy so we were seated in the pool room. Ordered two main meals and a kids meal. Both main meals arrived at the same time and were ok but no sign of the kids meal. When the server was asked where it was she disappeared and then the member of staff who took the order appeared, apologised and said it was just on its way. The child with us was starving and ended up having to tuck into the adult meals whilst waiting for the burger and chips to arrive. It eventually turned up and I wouldn't have served the burger to my dog. The bun was dry and stale and the burger was of very poor quality and had been over dinged in the microwave. To top it all some teenagers and their parents arrived and proceeded to play pool in the same room whilst we were trying to eat and there was clearly not enough room around the pool table, so rather than having a pleasant leisurely meal, we were rushed to finish and depart. Not an enjoyable meal or experience and will not be visiting again.

Superb! Passed this so many times over the years and to be fair it didn't look appealing, now under new ownership and refurbished it's well worth a visit. Two lads had the chicken curry, my wife a burger meal all of which were consumed with gusto whereas I fancied a challenge and ordered the 20oz rump steak, it was cooked to perfection and was delicious, I wouldn't hesitate to go again, any pub that can turn away walk ins on a Monday night is doing something right!

The homemade Lasagne was very nice, the staff were very polite and obliging. It is a very nice location on bow street, there is plenty of parking space.

Excellent place to stop and eat en route from North to West Wales-Ideally situated at 1/2 way on the journey. Excellent food (the batter on the cod so lovely and light) and great hosts. Would eat here again if in the vicinity

Fantastic carvery lovely food plenty of veg, nice meat, well cooked and nicely presented. friendly staff. Nice surroundings. Recomend the gravy! Most definitely book before you come as it gets busy. Can't recommend it enough! 5*.dog friendly even had treats for dog and staff offered her water. Didn't photo food as to busy eating it lol 😆

Stopped by the pub for tea after a long hike nearby. Very friendly and welcoming. Food was good-my partner really enjoyed the lasagne and my veggie burger was spot on (veggie burgers are hard to get right, but the patty was very tasty). Our dog also liked the relaxed atmosphere too!

What an amazing place. The food is soooo good, you will not regret eating here. The staff are friendly and welcoming. And it's spotlessly clean. Great for couples, families, friends and dog friendly too!

Went to The Rhydypennau Inn pub and restaurant Bow Aberystwyth 4.4.2024 for early evening meal. I had the 10/12oz Gammon with side Salad, Egg, or Pineapple & Chips . It’s was absolutely divine! Really friendly and attentive service and outstanding value . Also dog friendly. Thank you so much!

Fit a party of 11 in at the last minute. Food was so tasty, everyone commented how great the food and service was. The landlord and our server was so friendly, engaged with our kids so brilliantly and couldn't do more for us. Went here tonight Monday 13th Nov. Quiet but we loved it. Landlord very good and put a log on the fire for us. The he young lady behind the bar was very good, pleasant and polite. Had a lovely meal. Vegetarian lasagne and chips and salad and my hubbie had steak pie. Absolutely delicious and all homemade. Very good price. Would definitely revisit. Thank you.

The customer services was terrible McDonalds customer services is better. The chips was under cooked and not edible, when we told an employee that the chips was under cooked we didnt get an apology. We said can we have another Portion of chips. When they came they looked fine but inside it was worse than the first time. We didn't eat them since they weren't edible. The steak was great so was the ham and egg. The curry was abit runny but tasted good and the burgers was alright. We asked for the cheek and mentioned that the chips was under cooked, again no apology, the worker did not agree with our claim and said there not undercooked I made sure, she said she had took the temperature of the chips but that has nothing to do with the chips being cooked right. We asked if they could take something off the bill since it was terrible , they took nothing off the bill. They said the manager was not in so they couldn't take anything off the bill. It seemed as if no one was left to manage the place. Never going back food wasnt good what so ever, had a terrible experience.

Went for lunch while on holiday and all of us really enjoyed it, we had a range of things from a panini to a special big bbq pulled pork burger which my daughter loved. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful would go back if in the area. Small children’s play area out the back of the pub as well

Living locally and heading into Aberystwyth for a show, we decided to visit for a evening meal. I read Steak of the week on the Menu & was told it was Rump. I ordered with my expectations not too high. I have to retract my last statement as it was Devine. It was so tender, cooked perfectly and so tasty. The steak was perfect & the chips were nice, even the side salad with sweet Balsamic Vinegar dressing was so moorish. I wasn’t particularly keen on the mushroom/Garlic sauce…. But that was my preference. My husband’s Gammon was equally as impressive. Will i return…. Absolutely!

We booked Sunday Lunch for a party of 13 people. The website states that you can have roast or nut roast, all for £10.50. However when we arrived we were told that the vegetarian meals have to be ordered in advance. (The website doesn’t state this and I’ve never heard of a restaurant or pub having this rule before. ). The vegetarian therefore had to watch every one else eat as no offer was made for an alternative. In fact the staff were quite rude about it. I have since tried to book online for Sunday lunch and it doesn’t request you to select a vegetarian option Except for the beef which wasn’t great, the carvery was very good. Tasty roast potatoes, lovely selection of vegetables. Tasty gravy.

We have been twice and on both occasions the food has been amazing. Always fresh home cooked food, great menu including vegetarian choices. Dog friendly too! Staff have been friendly and welcoming each visit. Great atmosphere too. Strongly recommend!

Called in on spec because it was close to where some visiting relatives were staying. Very glad we did, we all had something different and eveyone enjoyed their meal and commented on how good it was. Bonus was that prices were reasonable too. Nice pub, good decor and good service, recommended!

Called late and managed to squeeze a table of 14 in if they rearranged the table layout. Staff very helpful & accommodating. The food was amazing, all meals were fabulous, great portions & piping hot. Great play park & outdoor area. Will definitely return. Many thanks

So…. Read some reviews mostly positive and some negative! The only way to judge something is to try it yourself! Thank goodness we did! What can I say, fabulous welcome, friendly staff and the food was lovely! All reasonably priced and worth it! Definitely recommend and would call again if passing through!

This is how a pub should be. Good food and friendly, welcoming, efficient staff. James immediately provided water and treats for our dogs and Naomi was was on the bar, taking food and drink orders. Both really nice people. The Sunday lunch is carvery and excellent value at £10.50. Food is really good and we really liked that there was no queuing for the carvery as the owner/manager explained we stayed at our table and were told when to go to straight to the carvery. Unusual, but it really worked well. Definitely one to recommend

We ate here on Tuesday 18th May 2021. All covid safety checks were in place with masks worn, and screens between the tables. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and the food was excellent, well prepared, well presented and very tasty. My partner and I visited on Friday 16th October having not been since having a carvery around 4 years ago, I have to say apart from the refurbishment, the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was fresh, delicious and value for money, we would certainly highly recommend this pub. They have two days when classic meals are 50% off , yes these days are busy but this pub needs to be supported on the other five days of the week.

Me and my partner enjoyed a meal here a week ago, and we couldn’t sing it’s praises any more than we did! Staff was very welcoming and friendly very clean pub, and the food was fantastic. Just seems a shame that it’s only busy on the days they do halfprice meals, and people aren’t coming and supporting the pub on the other days.

We had a few days holiday in the area early this week and on Monday afternoon popped in for a drink. What a warm welcome by Sophie who not only explained meals on offer but provided our dog with a drink without being asked! On the back of this we booked a meal the following night in the restaurant (without the dog). Everywhere was immaculately clean. In the restaurant all the tables were divided by screens and their whole operational process made you feel as safe as anyone can in these challenging times. Great pub food and value supported by excellent service again. Would recommend to anyone.

Arrived for family Sunday carvery. Shown to sticky surfaced table. Table leg loose, simply needed the nut tightening underneath (which I did.) Sunday carvery - tell the bar staff what meat you want and the meal is brought to the table. Not able to have a mixture of meats, or even select for yourself what you would like. Meal served.. and plate full of ‘stuff’. Very little meat but lots of veg which they decide for you. At best the meals represented and tasted like school dinners of old, and I suspect that is the training the chef has had. I would still prefer to be able to select myself - as an adult - what I want to eat, and the amount. That has nothing to do with covid-19 protection. A pricey meal for a poor school dinner.

Called in for early evening meal, staff were very friendly and helpful, explained the Covid rules we had to observe. Young man serving us checked with the kitchen about gluten free options. Food arrived quickly, was well presented, very tasty, good portion sizes.This was our second visit, we called earlier this year before first lockdown and we were very impressed. Our second visit was every bit as good. We will certainly return, thank you for the great meals and excellent service.

We booked a table which was ready and all sanitised for us. Our dinner came to the table promptly which was delicious home cooked and tasty. The staff were helpful and chatty. We watched the football after dinner in the bar and everyone seemed happy. Only criticism was no hand sanitiser in the bathroom or outside the loo door otherwise top notch.

Large family of 12 visited for sunday lunch. Not visited since referb (maybe 3 years since last visit) very modern and clean pub. Warm welcome with our table ready for us on arrival. Lunch was delicious, a little small didn't think there was much size difference between an adults portion and a child's and simple pudding menu would have been nice but this was clearly explained to us on booking none were available.Would recommend this pub for a tasty lunch or a drink.

Mixed experience on Wednesday evening, not helped by EO2HO. Finally got an outdoor table after a bit of haggling with Barry the owner. Barry helped us out and we had a good value burger meal. The beer garden was treated as a children’s playground with minimal distancing.

Came here with my friend and the other half. Was really hoping I’d get a good meal. Waited over an hour for our food. There was no salts, ketchup or sauces. The meal was cold (chips). The chips were also soggy and tasted under cooked. Won’t come again

Choice of three meats, and an array of vegetables which you help yourself to. Very tasty indeed. Great selection of desserts too, yum yum !!!Staff were very welcoming and attentive... Called with friends for Sunday Carvery. The pub was busy, but we had pre-booked. Service was slow, we'd been sat for about 15 minutes when we stopped the lady in charge and asked about drinks, food etc. She apologised for the delay and sent a waitress to take our drinks order. We then had to wait a further 10 minutes or so to go for the carvery (tables are sent up individually). Customers help themselves to everything bar the meat, roast potatoes and yorkshire puds. I had the pork, which was very tasty, but you don't get much meat - two very small pieces which were shredded to make it look more (at a guess each piece was no more than 5 x 2 inch and sliced incredibly thin) !! Then I was give two tiny roast potatoes, I asked if I could have another which was served with a big "huff", my husband also asked for more - again this was begrudingly given. The rest of the party reported the same. Now, is it me or do most people want a decent amount of roasties with their Sunday dinner??? Cauliflower cheese was lovely though!So to conclude, the food was tasty, but insufficient meat or roast potatoes and the actual food service/manner of the server left a lot to be desired.

We were staying in a nearby b&b and popped in here on the first night they were serving food. We got a lovely friendly welcome from all the staff we came across and the meals we had were excellent. I had the beef & ale pie which was positively scrumptious, and my husband had the curry which he said was excellent. I would highly recommend.

Go and visit for yourself and be prepared to be blown away by absolutely no atmosphere, dull and lifeless staff (except for Dan) and no food. The new exterior paint job is a vast improvement but unfortunately it will not help one bit in making your visit any less morbid

Visited and was very welcomed by the owners and staff. Very lovely to my children and had a lovely thai curry and was lovely to see the decorating done by the owners. Upon a discussion we learned about the local produce bought and the importance of being the heart of the community

We were recommended this pub from our b& b , it was quiet when we went in , but went to the bar area where there were a few locals , they were very friendly , and the owner . Food was lovely , I had smoked mackerel pate to start , my husband had grilled prawns salad , then I had the fish pie with a crumble topping & my husband had the steak , it was lovely , and the chips were fab !

We booked for dinner. place was quiet in June. Food was good value and quality. Beer and Gin reasonable prices. Good variety of gin to choose from. Free pool for the evening while we were there and no closing time either.

Went in with friends with the intention of having a meal here (as recommended by our guest house), but fortunately one of our number spotted (in time) that this restaurant only has a one star hygene rating, so we quickly finished our drink, and hastily made our way elsewhere for a meal, which turned out to be a good decision.

While I have to agree with some previous comments regarding surroundings we used this pub on April 15th on our way back to Herefordshire and were given a very warm welcome indeed including the dog who was a great favourite.

As with any newcomers running a pub, there are the inevitable teething problems. As a local I feel I must speak up against the recent bad press this place is getting. I use the Rhyd at least once a week and I’m always made to feel welcome and there’s always a good pint as there is in the Black down the road. We’re very lucky here in Bowstreet to have TWO pubs, where many village pubs have disappeared in the last decade!! A pub isn’t a pub without locals! We’re the ones that keep these places ticking over during the long winter months, and yes, both places can get a little loud with local banter, but in my eyes that’s what your local inn should be. I’m sure by the spring the restaurant will be fully up and running and all will be fine for the wannabe Michelin guide inspectors who like to use platforms like this to leave bad reviews as a hobby I guess and not giving a place the benefit of the doubt. Now that I’ve got that off my chest. Best of luck to Lauren in the Rhyd and Barrie in the Black!! Honestly, some people on this site want caviar when all they can really afford is scampi fries!! (Grow up!!)

Don't be misled by older ratings for this pub. It changed hands about six months ago and is now terrible.

Went in for food went straight back out the chef is stinking he needs a good wash and shave and his attitude really needs working on its a pitty becouse he is ruining a nice pub. WONT EVER GO BACK

Booked a table of 6 for carvery, walked in and walked straight back out. Firstly the place stunk of damp and the staff were very uninviting. Price of carvery £9.50 is outrageous for food that is not for for human consumption. The kitchen looked filthy and so did the chef. So we didn't even have a drink and walked out.

We went last Sunday for a Carvery. It was nice ....but not enough meat. Great selection of vegetables though and all very hot. But definitely over-priced..... given the surroundings.....£9 each..... honestly given that the place itself needs upgrading etc £7 would be more acceptable....

Went two nights in a row after a lovely meal on first night, however the chef changed the following day and so did the quality of the food. The young ladies offering was much, much more palletable than the older male chef.

This pub doesn't deserve 4 stars... yet, but it is under new management and having not been for a year it is really on the way to being a lovely pub. I visit my friend regularly and this is her local so I've visited lots of times over the past 10 years+ I gave it 4 stars to raise the rating and give the new owners a chance as there is already a marked change is the service, cleanliness and decor... fingers crossed for the rest of their plans.

the worst experience ever, walked in to be greeted by dead flies all over the window ledge and a very rude chef who was very unhygenic touching the veg, and dropping food everywhere and had the audacity to shout at us to make sure we paid. Will never be coming here again ,

It was a horrendous experience, chef messed with veg with his hands and shouted at us across the room to pay for dessert, very dirty pub with very unfriendly staff, worst dining experience ever. Will never be going there again.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT- absolutely appalling, I ordered Sirloin steak and pan fried king prawn. I received the most bland rump steak I have ever had the displeasure of eating and the smallest shrimp!!

Although young bar server and landlord were friendly, the place needs a major in-depth clean in the bar/ games and dining areas. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, walls and furnishings in poor, ripped condition, not at all like what the perfectly located Public House used to be like.
