I have been going to Rex since it opened many years ago . When I moved forty miles away from the area I decided to put in an order for bread and cakes every six weeks when I go to my hairdressers ( still in that area) . We don’t eat any other bread ( me sourdough and my husband the lovely Filone that they slice and put in two bags per loaf for me.) I can’t resist ordering some of the divine cakes too , and am eating one of their hot Cross buns as I write this ! Yes it is expensive but worth every penny for,the quality .

I live just around the corner from Rex and can just pop out of the front door to buy a loaf or something else on a whim.... I've basically given up on supermarket bread now and have their Cracked Rye, or very occasionally the Rye Sourdough or Spelt loaves. It really is excellent stuff and as we'll be moving away soon I though I would put on here how much I have appreciated the quality over the last few years. I will certainly miss having a baker of this quality on the doorstep! Yes it is expensive, but even if you do it just once as a treat you won't regret it.

A flawless selection of deliciously baked breads and danishes. Well presented and always fills a hole. I would happily drive in excess of 40 minutes to get bread here before. However, to my joy, they have opened an additional store in peascod street in Windsor ! Love the sausage rolls and the amazing danishes with bacon and egg! Couldn't recommend either place highly enough.

Earlier this week we bought a loaf of bread and pain-au-raison and paid over £!0 for it! I initially thought we had been charged twice - but when checking with the shop today, they told me that the loaf we had bought (100% wholemeal sourdough tin) was priced at over £7. This by far the most expensive bread I can find advertised anywhere. Other artisan organic bakers I can find charge £3-4 for an 800g loaf. Its lovely bread - but I won't be buying any more.

This place sells wonderful freshly baked bread (the smell at night of the baking is fabulous) and pastries. Also toasted sandwiches and coffees for a quick bite. Friendly service. A word of warning - it is not good for the waistline; each time I buy a loaf I eat just one more slice until it's all gone.

A group of us stopped here when in Little Chalfont and had the chai tea, a cappucccino and a couple of the cakes on offer. The hot drinks were very nice but the cakes were disappointing as they were a bit too dry and not overly flavourful. Whilst the hot drinks were nice, there was not enough variety offered in this bakery to entice me to come back - a wider range of cold drinks and improved cake/sandwich choices would make the cafe more appealing. I can't comment on the bread because I didn't try it but can see from previous manager comments that this is obviously what they pridethemselves on and is possibly why other aspects are not as good as they could be.

Having worked in the area when Rex opened it was good. I have since moved on and visited back today based on previous experience. What a poor decision. The lady behind the counter didn’t know anything. To the point I asked re the millionaire shortbread as looked different through the glass. I even asked if it contained nuts or something as looked like it did. She assured me it was the same as any just “put together” their way. To my surprise when I gave to my kids later it contained hazelnuts! Lucky no one had an allergy! My own food, the toasted sandwich was average at best. The cappuccino was like warm, bitter and the frothy milk was vile. So I finished my lunch with a stop past a coffee shop! Not what I expected and nor will I go back.

A place that takes bread seriously! Advice always available. I am steadily working my way through their full repertoire of loaves, albeit quite slowly because this is not a cheap option. After placing our order ,we chatted with the staff who are very friendly and got to understand that this was a bakery set up by Chalfontians to cater to the requirements of Chalfontians and neighbours .. During our time in the cafe saw a steady stream of people coming in for purchases and takeaways and some like us for consuming the items on in the cafe .. A total value for money outlet ...

I really, really wanted this establishment to be great but, alas, it falls just short because the coffee is too hit and miss. It depends on who makes it for you... They serve Monmouth beans (a rarity around these parts) but only one in three cups I've had has actually been of Monmouth quality. A real shame. Plus, the flat white measures are far too large (latte-sized).

I recently came across the Real Bread Campaign whilst researching the use of pesticides in supermarket bread and the Chorleywood process of making bread on an industrial scale. I was delighted to find that one of the bakeries listed on the website is local to me, the Rex Bakery in Little Chalfont and I have not bought a loaf of supermarket bread since. The breads sold by the Rex are absolutely delicious, especially the various sourdoughs and focaccias. The apple and cinnamon cake is good too. Since Rex set up in town I have been there several times for various reasons. The bread alone is award winning and worth the trip to pick up a loaf - the Olive Ciabatta and the Rosemary/raisin loaf are our family favourites. We've stopped in for coffee and cake as well. The coffee was excellent and the cake (I had the bread puddingy one) was delicious and a very generous portion - would have been a perfect mid-ride snack for any fellow "roadies" out there. The lady serving was also extremely kind and gave a small sample of a couple of things to the kids so they could make up their minds. The arrival of The Rex in our village has brought mixed blessings. The good is that I never buy bread anywhere else now - this is fresh, organic, artisan bread without all of the additives and preservatives so prevalent in supermarket style bread. Our favourite is the Gallego, a heavy Spanish sourdough-like joy, but also fantastic is their baguette, sourdough, brioche, rye, multiseed.... the list goes on and on. And then there are the cakes - our particular favourite being the juicy gluten free orange cake. The double baked hazelnut croissant, the pain au chocolat and the pain au raisin are more favourites. So I think the bad is clear - The Rex is not good for your waistline. Still, a small (though growing wider by the month) concession to bakery perfection. Long live The Rex!

When this place first opened, I bought a baguette. I always feel that if you can get the simple things right then the that is a good basis to judge a place. The baguette I bought was tough and fairly tasteless.Since they had only just opened that week, I thought I'd give them another chance because I always want to support local independent shops and restaurants. When I mentioned (in a nice way) to the lady at the till that the baguette that I'd bought the previous week had been tough and i hoped this one was better, the owner came out from the back and, in a very aggressive manner, asked what I had said. I found this very uncomfortable. There was no apology and no attempt to make me feel welcome as a customer, even though I was clearly buying another loaf and giving them another shot.If I could have given the service Zero stars, I would have.Irrespective of whether the second loaf of bread was any good, I will never be going back and I advise you to avoid at all costs.
