Retro in Cardiff

Been here half a dozen times and always quite empty.

Superb place to visit. Nice lively bar with a live DJ. Great music selection and allowing for requests makes this an easy crowd favourite. Great selection of drinks. Cost of entry is well worth it imo. Cost of drinks is as you would expect for this type of venue. The only detractor was a guy whistling. While this isn't on the venue, the choice to not deal with them certainly impacted a few groups enjoyment. Repeated shrill whistling over the top of the music is probably the worst mood killer and I would urge a check of colleagues to understand why that wasnt addressed on Saturday. The handling of this (or lack thereof) was the only reason I cannot give it 5*

I come here regularly and the bar staff are grateful, and dj chris is brilliant he's a credit to the company

Some staff are so rude here as they rushed everyone out 10 minutes before closing.. Just don’t wanna tell their name. Food didn’t try . Atmosphere are ok for late night.

1st time in Retros 29th June, brilliant night, didn't want to leave, loved the music 🎶 staff & bouncers were really friendly and we had a golden band 2 4 1 drinks all night 🙈

Very disappointed, stopped here for cocktails they were horrible, not what was on the menu, cheap syrup yuck we could not drink them and was told most bars use syrup. Well this was not what was on the menu.. we had just had amazing cocktails in another bar. Waste of money and they did nothing to put it right. I would not have chosen cocktails if this was known. Definitely will not stop there again.

Probably one of the dullest and dirtiest places I've unfortunately frequented

Not the nicest club - selection of alcohol wasn’t great and there were quite a few creepy guys not respecting personal space (although security did step in). Bar staff were friendly but the DJ didn’t seem to know his music very well and it was non stop cheese nothing else despite requests which had I known I wouldn’t have gone( but if this is your thing then I’m sure you’d enjoy it!) I still had a good night with my friends as we made the best of it but don’t think we’ll come here again.

Went to this bar this evening. I have never come across such a rude barman in my entire life. I ordered my first drink of the day which was a glass of wine. I then returned to the bar and asked for five tequila rose shots. The bar man proceeded to pour two tequila shots. When I said to him I ordered tequila rose not tequila....his reply was, you asked for tequila..he then said you are pissed and I'm not so I know what you asked for. I was so taken aback by the rude disgusting attitude of this bar person I would advise anyone to stay away.

Love going to Retro's, staff are fab and love the dance music. Just need a proper full length mirror in the toilet.

80's nightclub in the centre of Cardiff. Google said it opened at 8 pm, but when we got there, we were turned away and told it didn't open until 9 pm. No problem. We went for a drink somewhere else for an hour. Returned at 9, and the place was empty. Literally had the place to myself and my wife. Started getting busier about 1030pm. A DJ came on, and there was Karaoke, which I love. Only slight issue, and I mean slight was the DJ hogged the Mike. I used to DJ myself in my younger days, and I get that sometimes you need to get the crowd going, but it seemed like every other song was him. I saw lots of people making requests, but I don't think many got to sing. But hay, it's his perogative, I guess. It's still a great night out.👍

Staff great, music good unfortunately the clientele seem to be the bunch that don't get let in to other places. Quite a toxic atmosphere. May have been unlucky on the night but were let in in the first place.

Just dropping people off there lastnight and that was a nightmare with all the bloody taxis ....

Had a hen party here . Few things went wrong (accused of not paying and not getting everything in drinks package) Emailed about it but they’re ignoring my emails . No , no messages in junk folder . A friend emailed about something unrelated and got a response in hours which proves to me they’re not willing to acknowledge my emails. Such a shame because we overall had a good time .

Music has gone downhill. I'd start playing the 80's again so much better. The toilets need a good clean, sad to see it's lost its spark always ended up in retros years ago

At some point recently they started turning away our groups who have come here for 3+ years while turning away long established groups for profit. Only after a few attendances did we notice abusive staff taking vulnerable staff aside to abuse them. Disgusting place, make sure you don't eave any friends alone here.

Filthy place, they don’t care of the drunken state of the customers they let into premises. Was highly concerning. Retro is a waste of a venue on Cardiff high street.

I have to say this place is amazing!! I have been a few times now and not only is it great place to go to have a good time with your friends but the staff are amazing especially the bouncers!! I was here Friday with a group of friends when one fell very poorly and had a stroke the bouncers done everything they could to help us especially Phil he was amazing!!! Thank you so much for all your help you're all amazing and so is your club!! We will be back with out a doubt 🙌

Falsely advertising a Wednesday night. With pricing higher than advertised. Wont be coming here for while.

Had our rugby night out after playing on Wednesday. Only us really in there but the staff were great and the music was absolutely spot on. Great night. Opens till 4am which we used to our full advantage.

Music is great but it's not really somewhere I would go to out of choice.

On a stag do was ok music was good but what I couldn’t get my head around the beer prices changed every time we ordered, first round x2 fosters x2 Camden pale ale £20 Second round the same £22, 3rd round £15.50. Never got to a 4th round wasn’t to happy with price changes.

Had an awesome couple of nights here whilst on a stag do. Music was good - some great throwbacks to classics, and the drinks were pretty well priced. Quite small, but that added to its charm.

This guy completely spoilt are night , after booking and having a fantastic time this guy approached our party and told us to leave because one of the girls was sleeping . Not through being drunk but purely through the medication she takes . Was in a very dark quiet corner of the pub and was not harming anyone . His attitude was disgusting and clearly these bouncers think they are above the law. Shocking ! Apart From that bar staff , dj superb ! I think you need to re jig you doormen as this one in particular was a pig of man …

Terrible communication despite literally weeks of unanswered calls and emails. What is wrong with these people? UPDATE - I can't respond to Retro's comment directly but can confirm I had a reply to my email but you never responded to my following email (perhaps it's in your junk folder?) or several calls afterwards. And no it's not in my junk folder. Just trying to let others know that if they can't get hold of you then they're not alone. Cheers

Nice place but no food or snacks

A nice location for drinks with friends and a nice atmosphere. The place was sorted out with screens and one way systems to adhere to current covid regulations. Good music and televisions playing music videos set the vibe. Staff was friendly and drinks fairly priced.

Quite a big space, we didn't have to book in advance as they allowed walk-ins which was a plus since we had only reached Cardiff that afternoon and every other place turned anyone away without a reservation. Drinks were a little watered down (expected with the pitcher but not the Tequila shots as well!!). The music was good and they had TVs playing Euro 2020.

Good music and reasonably priced. Only problem is you can't go here as just a group of girls as there are always a small number of creepy/gropey men who spoil the night.

Popped in here on the way to a concert for a cocktail, which some gentleman stood at the bar bought for us. Good atmosphere especially as it was a rugby day.

We booked a cocktail experiance it was such a waste of money and time. Staff weren't helpful and we was stood in front of bar while being showed how to make two cocktails. Total shambles.

Was pretty decent, music was somewhat varied, leaning towards poppy. Loud, but about the level you'd expect from a club. Don't know how much the drinks cost, as I tend to just hand the bartender my card, and they did the rest. Happy atmosphere, the left corner smelled like farts, which was concerning

Always have had a good night here. My most recent time was for a hen do and they were very friendly and provided a good service. The music is always great and prices are low too!
