Retreat Bromley Cross in Bolton

We chose Retreat as it is a very pleasant setting and the location was convenient. The food was good quality and the portions were adequate for a lunchtime meal. Service was attentive but they didn't get everything right even though it was very quiet. Prices are a little higher than other places in the area but not outrageous.

Not the best service and food, plus a 10% service charge on the bill which we didn’t notice. The staff were nowhere to be seen to get more drinks so we decided to leave and pay on the way out and all of sudden they popped out of nowhere.We paid up and left disappointed we didn’t get offered a drinks menu the food menu was so dirty and covered in food.Average and over priced.

i can't fault the food , everyone enjoyed what they ordered , but it took 50 mins to be served .. the chairs were so high i had to climb on them and it was difficult to get close to the table because my feet didn't touch the floor and they were very uncomfortable to sit on .. the music was too loud , when you are having a meal and chatting all you need is something calming and quiet in the back ground .. the restaurant itself is really lovely .. i would go back but i think if i did i would ask for the music to be turned down .

Weve been coming to the restaurant each Saturday night around 6-7 for the last 3-4 weeks. We always ask for a booth and the restaurant always accommodates. The experience is really good and the food is excellent but what makes this place really stand out is the staff. Most of the staff are very young but they are all so professional polite and attentive and they are really very impressive. Alot of young people, especially those working in this sector, get a bad press but the staff on the Saturday night shift are exceptional. The cocktails are great too especially the pornstar martini which I am becoming addicted too!

We would normally go to places like this in an evening but as we hadn’t met for ages then lunchtime seemed a good time. We were welcomed nicely as we entered the building and as we had a booking we were shown straight to a table. We ordered drinks and food and it appeared in a thrice……quickly to those who don’t know that word. The food for all 3 of us was excellent. I’m glad we went.

Ignorant, rude and unwelcoming person working front of house, one of the waitresses was friendly and polite, but the attitude of the girl on the front desk was enough to make us walk out. No wonder there’s tumbleweed blowing through your bar if thats your customer service standard . Girl stood behind the reception and completely ignored us, after five minutes of being ignored I was told they didn’t have a table (the restaurant and bar was virtually empty) so we walked out. I may be having a bad day, but a smile and a welcome and a friendly acknowledgment costs nothing, that’s your job is it not? It came across that customers are an inconvenience, quite pleased I didn’t waste my money here! Congrats on trashing your reputation!

Nice atmosphere. Great food and staff very welcoming in particular, the manageress who greeted us at reception and showed us to our table. Will return.

We came in on Friday night as a last minute decision! Wasn’t a problem and was seated down quickly by the lovely young lady in charge. Food was presented nicely and brill atmosphere!

First visit to this place. The food was lovely and couldn’t fault the staff however some attention to detail is needed. When we arrived the table was dirty so had to ask for it to be cleaned, the menus were tatty and the folder the bill came in was filthy. We will return and hope that these little things are rectified to make the experience better.

Lovely ambiance lovely staff most of the waiters where very young and polite but the food was absolutely awful pies not homemade and dry veg over cooked the thia green curry was like dish water payed an extra £4 50 for extra chicken took the pie home for the dog even he wouldn’t eat it will not be going again the young waitress asked if everything was ok and being polite we said the wine was nice but fell on deaf ears

Visited retreat Bromley cross on Wednesday afternoon. Lovely atmosphere and great service by Becca she truly is a star to your restaurant. Love the Seabass risotto, will be recommending this to our friends. Thankyou

Booked a last minute meal out on a Sunday. Restaurant looks great on the outside and even better in. We had a booth which was very spacious just for the two of us. Decent chill out music and nice lighting throughout made a great atmosphere. The food was very tasty with generous portion sizes and also great value. The staff all smart and clean they are polite and helpful . Our waitress Alex was superb and definitely deserves a pay rise. 🦘🇦🇺 😉 We will be back with friends and family.

What a wet and rainy night it was so the best place to be was in a warm restaurant. We definitely got it right. Nice friendly atmosphere. Great staff and excellent food. The only problem was a till that fell over but with a little application they got over it. A great night all in all.

Took advantage of the special Dinner menu for Jan. £13.50 for 2 courses. Went on Monday evening, expected it to be quiet but there were quite a few customers so good atmosphere. Food delicious, Mushroom Pot starter and cheese and onion pie with chips and mixed veg all, hot and tasty. Great value. Staff attentive and friendly as usual.

I’m a regular customer to this restaurant with my sister-in-law or a group of around 10 ladies. Today I was with my SIL for lunch. A special offer was meal and drink for £10 The drinks were wine, beer, cola or lemonade. I was driving so no alcohol but I didn’t want a sweet drink with my savoury lunch so asked for a tonic instead. The waitress went to ask if that was ok - No- I asked for the manager who told me he couldn’t substitute tonic as they had a special arrangement with suppliers. My observation- isn’t tonic at £2.05 cheaper than wine/beer? To keep a customer happy isn’t it bit mean to be so inflexible? The food is very good, we enjoyed it - shame about having to pay for the drink.

Drove passed a few times. So we decided to see if we could get a table. Really lovely building, walking in feels relaxing and warm. Sadly the experience wasn't great. Firstly Kira was an absolute delight and was so helpful when our drinks went missing. She was very apologetic about the mishap. The Starters were OK, yet the mains were,, well,, dry and over cooked sadly. Place feels like it's run by kids with no real training. We were missing cutlery and had to ask about sauces for our meals. We asked Oliver for coffee and dessert menu. We waited and waited yet he never came back with 1 and so gave up on the idea of coffees. When he did come back we just asked for the bill. At the time we took it for granted the bill was correct. Yet on later inspection we saw we had been over charged on the drinks. The same drink cost 2 different prices. Also we were charged for 2 pints instead of a 2 half pints and to add insult to injury a service charge had been applied for not a great service by the young chap. Kira who brought the food was smashing. We just think the young lad needed to be more tentative. The place wasn't very busy at the time, perhaps training may help.

Came Christmas Eve. They were very busy so things were pretty slow (completely understandable). Every credit to Oliver who served us upstairs. He was incredible. Super professional and just couldn’t do enough for us. Food was tasty. I had the seabass risotto and my mum had the linguine. Lovely cocktails too!

We visited the Retreat at Bromley Cross and we really enjoyed it. The food was excellent all nicely presented and very tasty, we both had the Sunday menu and thoroughly enjoyed it was beautifully presented. The restaurant is lovely and the staff are very helpful and polite they work hard and are a credit to the Retreat. We have been to the other two Retreats but we find the Bromley Cross one more inviting both with the staff and the restaurant ambiance.

The Food was wonderful and delicious and the service was great too. will be definitely returning in the future

A lovely place to take family and friends for food and ambience. Pleasant and efficient staff always happy to help. If you don't get front of house right, no matter how good the food is, it won't be a great experience. I'm happy to report it was all good.

First time had fish and chips fish look like it had been Spread on with a knife.Second time burger looked like cheap bargain ones.beer tasted bad told 2 members of staff about no comments.Third time beef skewers could not cut showed manager said it was the butchers fault.Drinks where far to over priced Will not be going any more .BEWARE.

above average food excellent service beautiful building but always check your bill as they add 10% service charge to your bill without telling you.No mention on the web site nothing ! If there are just two or ten of you it still goes on. The point being when paying by card you tend not to check the bill first and usually leave a tip then when you get around to checking your bill you find you have left two tips one on the table(as usual) and then a large one added to your bill without you knowing. Surely anyone can see this is just out of order if not illegal. such a shame because everything else was fine.

Lovely outside area, went because advertised on social media that was half price Prosecco today. When asked at the bar they said this was a different venue but not stated anywhere this was the case. No glasses or plates from the chips we ordered collected in the 3 hours we were there and when I asked for some to be moved it was like I was asking the staff member to chop off an appendage

The four of us had a decent enough meal generally. One of us was disappointed in the steak as it was cooked much more than requested. Good pizzas, regulation burger. Asked for a bottle of wine, wasn’t shown a wine list and were astounded to find we had been stung for £30 a bottle when we got the bill. Not impressed with the automatic tip added to the bill, didn’t see it at the time as I didn’t have my reading glasses with me. Lovely waitress , Lucy? All in all, a very expensive lunch for a pub venue

Lovely place, friendly staff, nice food. 1st time visit and we were pleased enough to return. They charged just under £8 service fee without informing us. It is a legal requirement to ask customers if they wish to pay the 10%, which they did not. We will not return and not recommend. Be aware and check your bill Disappointed at not being informed

We’ve been to the other 2 restaurants in the chain and thought we’d try this one for a change. The interior is lovely very similar to the one in Adlington. The service was good however my food wasn’t so very disappointed. I ordered a chicken caesar salad and the chicken was hard and dry ! I mentioned it to the server when she asked our opinion and she apologised and took the price off the bill. That said, the rest of the family enjoyed their various meals. The desert was delicious though chocolate fondant and ice cream. I think I’ll stick to the restaurant in Bolton and Adlington as the food there far better than this experience.

Had a fantastic time at Retreat Bromley cross! Staff all lovely and very attentive. Food top tier and the atmosphere was great, cant complain. Tried the new menu also, can highly recommend. Great value for money !

Pleasant staff but considering the restaurant was quiet had to wait 40 minutes after our starter for main course which was very poor for the price ( had burgers which didn’t resemble menu description). Poor gluten free choices ( I’m a Coeliac) & no GF Yorkshire Puddings so not interested in Sunday roast ( can buy frozen ones from supermarkets - why don’t Retreat keep some in the freezer? ) At least the GF bread has improved since last visit but won’t be returning or recommending.

Lovely venue- the sun was shining down on my turkey breasts as i opened my mouth ready to take a lunchtime filling. I was drooling over the menu, dabbing the sides of my mouth, mopping up my saliva as i decided on my main. I opted for a chicken ceaser with chunky chips- others chose soup, a chicken skewer and a chicken sandwich- in retrospect i could have eaten the lot as although the food was tasty the portion sizes were tiny! I may look like a small porcelain Russian doll with a tiny frame but i don’t eat like one. The house wine was delicious and took the edge off. The toilets were sparkling which again was a positive. But the portion sizes really need expanding especially given the prices are quite steep... unless the waitress is having a munch as she delivers it to the table- i wouldn’t put it past her- the side eye she gave me when she demanded i take my own drink off her tray.

Recently visited this restaurant for the first time and was pleased to see staff were taking customers temperature on entering. However, this was where the care ceased. Staff do not wear visors or masks at this restaurant and stand within inches of customers when taking orders, enquiries and serving food. Absolute zero social distancing. During our time here I witnessed way too many occasions of staff standing to close to diners. One diner was questioning his bill and the server literally put her head next to his while discussing. We have visited quite a few restaurants recently and have been very happy with the precautions put in place and care and concern for the customer and their health was evident, unfortunately not here. This is such a shame as the food was delicious and I would normally return and recommend to friends and family. Sadly not on this occasion. Management, please get to grips with these concerns, so easy to rectify.

Booked for dinner to celebrate my husbands birthday. Excellent Covid precautions in place. Temperature taken on arrival and tables spaced out. Busier outside than tables inside. Food was excellent. We had starters and mains. I thought the prices were a little more than other places in the area but as it was a special occasion I was happy to pay. Nicely decorated inside. We were sat downstairs just felt it lacked atmosphere. Would return but for a special treat.
