GONE! Take away Yoshino- Use to be very good and reasonable. Now the prices have gone up and the portions diminished. They have very little in the late afternoon and won't make anything to order as they used to. I've suggested they take orders by email but it's calling or fax I'm afraid. Sad as I've been ordering from there for 15 years. Not anymore I'm afraid. If they modernise and become more reasonable perhaps in the future but not as is now.

A lot of flavour, super delicious. I loved how quiet it was. Portions are quite small though so did still feel hungry after dinner

Arrived for some sushi at 1015pm (when they have listed to close at 11pm) at the same time as someone else and there were seated and handed a menu. I walked in to order takeout and was told we could not order and the kitchen was closed. Hmm horrible service experience.

The taste was the best Japanese food I've had in London. It's really delicious. I ordered a course, but it seemed like there were two choices: meat or fish. Although I drank a lot, I deducted one star because it ended up costing over 100 pounds per person. However, I think it's a great store, including the service and variety of alcohol. It seems to be popular among expatriates, but it seems that a higher proportion of locals have a discerning eye for it.

Poor quality, definitely not worth the price. The prawn tempura was ok but the sauce was watered down. The aubergine was microwaved. The beef quality was appalling. The dessert was just strange. Would not go back

Go to Itsu for sushi take-away instead, it is cheaper and also pre-made and tasteless. Had the spicy tuna sushi. Blindfold I would be hard pressed to tell you what I was eating. Any Japanese restaurant where they are not making sushi fresh...run like hell. I was a returning guest, will not be back.

Plate pictured cost £30. A glass of white wine was £10. The sushi was good and the restaurant was very nice, but I don't know that i could afford to go back very often at all. You order from your smartphone using a QR code and your food is brought to you. Service was a little slow during the lunch hour.

Really lovely place to eat and drink. We sat upstairs as downstairs is for BBQ. Had some lovely saki alongside some beautifully prepared and tasty food. Came here for my partners birthday and he seemed to really enjoy it. Staff were welcoming and friendly. You order your food and drinks through the QR code at your table but staff will help if needed. Overall a great evening!

We had a reservation prior arrival, and everything dish was delicious and authentic. The lady who served us was very friendly, professional and gave us great recommdation. Would be back another time for dinner.

Very disappointed, I have been to this restaurant a few times, I have already recommended it to many people, but today it was outrageous. I don't eat salmon, I told the waitress and the other times they always brought me a selection of other fish. Today they replaced it with canned tuna and avocado sushi. They charged me the same price, minus the service, that is, I paid for the salmon, for the Toro, which also did not come. The only one that came was a white fish Nigiiri, no sashimi as was on the menu. I felt totally wronged, unfortunately I won't go back there anymore, it's not worth it for the price they're charging, I felt bullied.

Very enjoyable with a pleasant mid-afternoon lunch. Food is beautifully presented but there could have been a little more of it... after the meal I was sort of wondering when they were going to come out with the main.

Amazing food every single time! As others have said, make sure you get yourself into the virtual queue as soon as you can because it can take a while to get your seat. Ironically i blindly joined the queue which obscured the sign that says to get in the virtual queue until I got part way down the stairs, doh!

My love letter for Yoshino dates back to the beginning of this century (boy, do I feel ancient) when Yoshino was a corner at the Japan Centre that used to be at its pre-London-Olympics location. I could not afford sushi at the time, so I was waiting for their daily sale starting 30 minutes before the closing time to get 9 pieces of the best sushi in London for 3 pounds (or so I remember). Today’s quality remains consistently good, and I am always grateful to dine in this bubble of peace just a few steps away from Piccadilly’s madness. The soft jazz music accompanies my thoughts as I savour my Matcha icecream right to left, always keeping the stronger scoop for last. My favourite drink is the Matcha hot water (made with premium organic tea leaves), and sometimes I buy the powder to take this place Home with me. It tastes like London and my memories of Kyoto in a cup. The staff is graceful by DNA, with that authentic kindness that makes you feel special in a soft way. Just like their music.

This place was great. Me and my friend went and we tried an array of new foods! The waitresses were perfect, talking us through the menu. Definitely would recommend for the people with adventurous taste buds! We went on a Tuesday night so please send our thanks to the waitresses!

The quality is as good as in Japan. If you want to eat yakiniku, book a barbecue table. We ate the chocolate ice cream that they make at Yoshino. It's dairy-free dark chocolate. It was delicious. The waiter recommended it and it was even better than Häagen-Dazs. yoshino is the best! Das Personal war freundlich und das Barbecue war köstlich. Die Qualität ist genauso gut wie in Japan. Wenn Sie Yakiniku essen möchten, reservieren Sie einen Grilltisch. Wir haben das Schokoladeneis gegessen, das sie im Yoshino herstellen. Es handelt sich um eine milchfreie dunkle Schokolade. Had a very enjoyable lunch here, friendly staff, beautifully presented food. It’s down a side street so is very quiet, and inside it reminds you of being in Japan in its decor. It’s not cheap but it’s London so what do you expect? Would definitely come again.

One of the best sushi places in London

Recommend by a Japanese friend I was not disappointed. One of the few true Japanese restaurant in London. No fusion food or fake Chinese. You can really find the real Japanese taste at Yoshino. Lunch set menus are substantial and of high quality.

Best authentic sushi restaurant in London.

The food and drinks here are just sublime. We had the miso and tofu soup, seaweed salad, soft shell crab tempura, chicken gyozas, chef’s selection of sushi, chicken and short rib yakitori, and the 5 matcha icecream spectrum. Can’t say what I enjoyed most, everything was sheer perfection!

Excellent food and service in a simple, quaint atmosphere. Dinner was presented in traditional Japanese style; unrushed with beautifully crafted dishes. Our server was pleasant and friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Wow, what an experience!! From the beginning we were given great service by the waitress, who talked us through some of the options and discussed the dishes. The food itself was absolutely outstanding, even something that you'd think was basic, a seaweed salad, was served on an ice bed and seasoned beautifully. We particularly loved the house special 'plum wine', and the cod ceviche had to have been one of my favourite dishes. Eating here is truly an experience, the food is exceptional but it's the extras that make it so good.

Great anniversary dinner! Amazing food! Excellent service! The first time we walked passed Yoshino was 6 months ago. The moment I checked out the menu, I knew that this is not another generic Japanese restaurant. This is authentic Japanese food. However, I still went online to check the reviews and photos of food. The moment I read some negative reviews, I laughed. Who would walk into an authentic Japanese restaurant in centre London and expect it to be cheap 🤷🏻‍♀️. So I still booked Yoshino for our 5 year anniversary. The restaurant has a warm, cosy ambience, exactly that we’re looking for. We ordered everything through their website. The process is quick and easy. This was our first time in Yoshino and we were overwhelmed by the menu. We want to order EVERYTHING! The host was so friendly and so helpful. She answered all the questions I had about items on the menu. She was so patient and so kind. So we started with Tuna katsu, Tuna Toro Sashimi & Salmon Sashimi. We loved Tuna Toro so much we ended up ordering more. Tuna Toro is thinly sliced chutoro that has been marinated and it just melted in my mouth! We both agreed that the dish we like the most! Then, the restaurant offered the Wagyu Tartare as a gift for our anniversary. We were so touched! Personally Tartare has never been on top of my list but I ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with the Wagyu Tartare. The black garlic really elevate the dish! Of course, what we were looking for the most is the Yakiniku. My husband (who couldn’t be more British) is not a fan of organs. However, he was willing to try new things. We listened to the recommendation from the host and ordered everything she recommended: ox tongue, chicken liver, honeycomb (hachino-su) and heart (hastu). We strongly recommend hachink-su! I’m Asian but I’m very very picky when it comes to organ meats, especially honeycomb. If it has the slightest smell or toughness, I won’t eat them. Same with chicken liver! Outstanding quality! Not to mention their homemade BBQ sauce! I can eat anything with it! We were so full at this point but my husband still have Houji Cha Ice-cream. I was too full but I had a bite and it was amazing! Nice gelato texture and delicate flavour. I will definitely have some next time. The food was so good, we didn’t take much photos. We just focused on the eating 👌🏻 and thinking about what to order next time and who to bring with us! I only took 2 photos to tease my friends. I wish I took more photos for the review. I don’t write reviews often but I truly enjoyed the meal so much that I feel the need to do so. My only advice to you if you’re considering to visit Yoshino: come with an open mind, an open heart and a will to try authentic Japanese food. You’ll love it! I would also like to thank the chef and the host for such a wonderful experience. We’ll definitely come back with our friends and family in the future.

Lovely place. Motsuni -which is a kind of Japanese tripe stew- is my favourite. It would be difficult to find this quality of tripe even in Japan I guess.

Fantastic place to eat. Great place and atmosphere

Their sushi and toro weren't great. We went for the Chef's Sushi selection (£40) which wasn't great value. There were 5 pieces of rolls which were made with budget ingredients and spicy sauce. The tamago (egg) nigiri was tasteless and the toro was fishy. We thought the Toro Sashimi didn't look right when it was served, they were very brown in colour. I tried a slice and it was fishy. We sent it back telling the staff it wasn't fresh, but they came back to tell us they pickle/marinate (漬けま) their toro hence the brownish colour. Fair enough, but it shouldn't taste fishy and the slices were too thin to be served as sashimi (more like a carpaccio style). They kindly took it off the bill for us. Other dishes like the grilled fish, meat for BBQ and avocado tempura were fine. Despite the average food, their service was great, attentive and friendly. Not going back though as there are plenty of choices in London.

Really expensive for tiny plates of food. If the food had been 5* it would have been justified, but it absolutely wasn’t. One caveat I’d give to this review is I think it’s hallmark is bbq which we didn’t have. But yeah, save your money and go elsewhere for something probably much tastier. Should say, the lady who sat us down and took our bill at the end was 5/5. Fee bad about giving the restaurant overall a bad review with her great hospitality

Very good Japanese restaurant but a little overpriced

The best Japanese restaurant that I have been to in London so far. Good quality sushi. The prawn tempura, prawn was so fresh and less batter compared to other places I've tried. Loved it!

Lovely little restaurant that serves authentic Japanese food. I’m Japanese and don’t often go to Japanese restaurants in the UK to avoid disappointment. But I’ve been to this place many times over the last 10 years and I think it is probably the best Japanese restaurant in London considering the balance between the price and quality of food. Both fish and meat dishes are good.

Excellent food and best highball outside Japan!

Quite an extensive menu. Luckily there are also a few set menus to make it easier to decide! The food was absolutely delicious. If you want to have yakiniku you should book ahead and request it, as this is only at certain tables.

以前も伺い美味しかったので2度目の訪問で、焼き肉が食べたくて行きました。お料理はどれも美味しかったです。特にハラミ、カレーが美味しいです!ただ日本人女性の接客が残念で、メニューを頼むと、無言で机にメニューを置いたり、無言で作業をしたりと接客が目についてしまいました。又常連客と態度を別けてるのが見受けれました。以前行った時は別の方が接客してくれて雰囲気も良かったのになと思いました。お料理は美味しいのでまた日を空けて伺おうと思います。

Ordered delivery rice overcooked, no wasabi and not so fresh fish overall appalling no words save your moneney! Does not minimally compare to Dozo, Ohisama, Atari-ya or Eat Tokyo!

Great location in a quiet street off the main road. We made a reservation for an early dinner before a show. Really wonderful service and the food quality was excellent. You get what you pay for!

Amazing restaurant! Very authentic food. We had the set menu which was delicious. I highly recommend this place. The upstairs was a traditional restaurant layout. And the downstairs was like a Japanese pub layout.

I'm not overly familiar with authentic Japanese food, but my boss who's from Japan swears it's the best Japanese BBQ in the city. I can see why, the ingredients were fresh and so delicious. I had their chicken and the rest of the table had ox tongue, and cuts of beef. Everyone absolutely loved the food. We had a couple tempura starters, soft crab and asparagus. Both lovely. We also tried this curry with rice and it was so flavourful and familiar, I'd definitely get it again. Don't sleep on the hojicha ice cream, it's so good.

ちょっと上品な和食がいただけます。 ユッケやお寿司をはじめ、味はしっかり日本の味がいただけます。おいしく日本の料理をいただけるのですが、一品一品の分量は結構控えめなので、「もう少し食べたいな」 という気分になるかもしれません。 焼肉を食べたい場合には、焼くための網付きのテーブルを予約しないといけないのですが、網なしのテーブルでも、厨房で焼いた肉を皿に盛ってきてくれます。 価格は、少し高めに感じましたが、べらぼうに高いわけではありません。店内はきれいに手入れされており、高級感も感じられますので、ピカデリーサーカスあたりで（客人などと）日本食を食べたくなったときにちょうどよい店かと思います。

Authentic Japanese food with great host and service

We came here as a small group for dinner having read very good reviews. Unfortunately the meal was terribly disappointing across many fronts and as such I cannot recommend Restaurant Yoshino to anyone. Firstly, the food was substandard with many better Japanese options nearby. The sushi has meagre amounts of fish and is of poor quality - the slightly greying and flavourless tuna sashimi was so thinly sliced that it was basically carpaccio. To say that the fish was practically translucent is not an understatement. Secondly, wagyu motsu ni (a soup made with "various wagyu cuts") is in fact entirely based on tripe. Now I do not mind tripe at all, however a part from the fact that it was not a particularly pleasant tasting dish, I think that the menu description is misleading and can imagine that other patrons may be left disappointed by having innards served without warning.Thirdly, while the grilled short rib was tasty, the grilled wagyu tongue was horrible. Tongue is meant to be a flavoursome cut, however in this particular case there was a peculiar after taste. Furthermore, although not known to be a tender cut, in this case the meat was so tough that it could only be swallowed in one single piece!Fourthly, service was poor as there was one waiter for the upper floor. Menu items that were ordered were not delivered. One positive was that the homemade curry rice was tasty. In summary, poor quality food and sushi, not worthy of the high prices.

Есть меню за ланч за нормальные деньги.. Все просто, чисто и приятно. Очень вкусно. Таких ресторанчиков я много видела в Японии. Очень рекомендую. Большой выбор саке. Есть второй этаж. И первый, где можно есть у бара. Попробуйте. Но если вы заказываете по меню, то цена будет другой. В 2 раза выше. Ресторан не атмосферный, не тусовочный. Но приятный. Отличные ролы, сашими, крабные ножки. Мясо меня не впечатлило.

Lisa es una delicia absoluta y hace que cada cliente se sienta increíblemente especial. Los platos eran exquisitos y el sorbete de chocolate era para morirse. No puedo esperar para volver a lo que pronto se convertirá en mi lugar favorito para comer en Londres. Estupendo.

Food is good but portions are tiny. This should be categorized as $$$ or even $$$$ since you can easily spend £80 per person without considering drinks. The restaurant is tiny, very simple layout, not a view, just a restaurant in a dark alley, which makes it feel overpriced.

I love this place. A true gem hidden in plain sight, on an innocuous side street of Piccadilly Circus. Lisa Maitland greets many people warmly as they walk in. This is a place of regulars. For the last few years, I've come to Restaurant Yoshino for lunch every few months. The set menu can't be beat. Salmon roll, miso, and choice of mains. We spend hours here solving all the problems of the world. Tonight, a bit early for a concert in St. James and quite peckish, I dropped in for a light supper. The grilled unagi was perfectly done, and the tuna roll bright with flavour. However, the tuna toro sashimi, well, I'm still thinking about it. Seven thin slices, each dotted with wasabi. "You don't need soya," she said. The flavour slight salty and subtly woody. I savoured each bite. Thank you guys. So many amazing meals later, thank you.
