You cannot find enough adjectives to describe Ynyshir and the food you will eat here!!! The accommodation is exceptional and above most hotel levels. We had a suite, bedroom, lounge, bathroom, dressing room, and it's own front door and porch. Gareth Ward & his team, do an excellent job of making you welcome to this restaurant with some amazing unusual touches. Gareth is a genius!!! I'm not saying more, you need to go.

Dinner Ynyshirre staurant The best restaurant in the UK. We decided to make the epic journey from Nottingham to see what all the fuss is about. Located just outside Snowdonia National Park. Dinner starts at 5.00pm. You are seated in the bar/lounge for drinks and served the first of many courses. Chef Gareth Ward claims to use the 'most exclusive ingredients in the world'. Which you are shown before being led through to the disco or restaurant. We were seated on the first table nearest the kitchen and had front row seats to watch all the action. Dishes include shrimp green curry, scallop, black cod, lobster, crab, lamb Peking duck, beef, and even a tiramisu. The restaurant unapologetically doesn't cater to any dietary requirements and won't substitute dishes. Service is attentive and brisk like a well-oiled machine. Named Best UK restaurant for the second year running National restaurant awards. The awards are voted on by members of the hospitality industry as well as restaurant critics and influential food writers. The restaurant became the first in Wales to pick up two Michelin stars last year. If you are lucky enough to visit this amazing restaurant, you will have the experience of a lifetime.

This is the third time to visit Ynyshir and we have enjoyed absolutely stunning evening meals and this time we took our family and was no exception, brilliant meal and overall experience, the previous two times we also enjoyed a really good breakfast, however this time we were presented with a carry out type breakfast which was disappointing to say the least. Previous time we enjoyed a room service breakfast which was very good and what you would expect from such a high end restaurant, Ynyshir please review your breakfast arrangements

Me and my husband celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary at Ynyshir on Friday. I have tried to book this restaurant for years and was very happy to book a passing bench with their garden room. Where should I even begin? From the very first moment that we arrived the whole experience was incredible. Highly trained staff, the best top quality ingredients and of course the main even the dinner simply spectacular. We both fell in love with Ynyshir! After the dinner, the guests sat outside by the fire socialising and discussing their favourite courses. I never felt this welcome at any other Michelin restaurant. The chef was friendly, goofy and fun! Staff were all enjoying themselves, a truly happy atmosphere. We definitely will be back

We had a very similar experience to “Emma”. Fortunately no back to the kitchen, nor the one seat facing the wall. Both of which would have been so disappointing. The meal and experience were absolutely 5 star. Fabulous special birthday and anniversary treat. Very relaxed and unassuming. Completely fascinating and mesmerising to watch Gareth and his 2 chefs cook; with the interplay with all the attentive staff, who operated seamlessly. We loved the Asian influences, we enjoyed every morsel. We didn’t really notice the DJ, nor did the music dominate. Rather a lounge sound track when we had expected (incorrectly) something heavier, edgier and louder. The drinks came with a hefty 25% service charge and the breakfast cup Emma mentions, seemed a pretty sad monetary add; but we came for the food and we will return for the food! Probably in the winter next time, as the dark would deliver a very different experience. Gareth was welcoming and friendly. The bedroom was large and comfy; but not without maintenance issues. You wont regret a visit to Ynyshir. A unique experience, a passion project. Thank you to the full team.

Beautifully secluded house, surrounded by green hills. Our garden room was spacious and had everything necessary with a terrace overlooking the gardens. The whole nature of a visit to Ynyshir is an event in itself. We much enjoyed cocktails and an afternoon taster when we arrived, then, after a relaxing stroll, the evening began. The many courses were served at an appropriate speed and with varying levels of explanation from the proficient staff. On the evening we attended, every diner faced the open kitchen excepting two seats, one of which we had. This was a disappointment. I had hoped that, due to our disadvantage, we and the only other affected table may be offered the opportunity to see the chefs at work, but sadly not. I would suggest requesting a table with kitchen facing seating. The playlist was middle of the road. Gareth Ward appears to be an unassuming, talented man. It is a compliment to his guests that he considers his presence necessary at each service. The food has Japanese influences. The huge choice of wine by the glass is excellent. We managed a few lone glasses, but the Welsh wine was so exceptional that a couple of bottles were in order! The breakfast bowls in the mini-bar were cute. If only the travel cups had been thrown in as part of our approx. £1400 one night stay instead of a £12 charge for each one, I may have had a souvenir of my visit. Well deserved admiration for keeping such unique foodie destination going in this beautiful part of the country.

We arrived at Ynshir in beautiful sunshine. What an imposing property in fantastic surroundings. We stayed in a house room which was absolutely lovely and spotlessly clean. The evening began at 5pm with drinks/starters in the bar. The whole evening was full of wonderful tastes/flavours, textures and theatre. The service was exceptional without being overbearing. Unfortunately Gareth was not there when we visited, but it was still fantastic. We decided to visit after watching James Martin rave about his visit to this wonderful restaurant. First visit to this well respected place and it was hands down the best food I've eaten and possibly will eat (unless I return here). It's a pretty epic journey to get to but staff were v welcoming, a real family. Stayed over and the room was v nice, no issues so far. We were on the kitchen table and connected well with the other couple we shared it with. The dishes got better and better, some real mind blowing tastes. Wine ordered was nicely sorted earlier in the day and fairly well filled up. Ordering more wasn't an issue either. I must say though the sommelier seemed fairly unhappy compared to the afternoon, not sure what was going on there. A nice chat with Gareth at the end too so ticked all boxes. The sleep was OK with the exception of the old iron radiators ticking whilst expanding etc so this was a bit of a problem. Breakfast fine, coffee could have been better, multiple pastries and bread would be nice. Overall recommended, how couldn't I.

The brief summary - we had a wonderful dinner at Ynyshir. The service is excellent, managing to combine laid-back casual and very professional. The format is a no-choice small plates menu (about 25 courses) where the hit ratio of each individual course was phenomenally high (I only had 2 courses which I didn't feel quite worked, and my husband had one). The price is fairly high but on a par with with similar quality dining experiences in the UK and Europe - we felt it was excellent value for money. We definitely plan to return.

Booked after seeing Gareth on James Martin's Saturday kitchen show. This was a 55th birthday and retirement treat. The place itself is set in 17 acres of lovely gardens. The room- number 10 a garden room- was stunning, full length windows overlooking the gardens, a huge bed and one of the nicest bathrooms I have ever seen in a hotel. Now to the food. 24 course tasting menu. Every course brought to the table and explained by the chefs who cooked them. We couldn't fault anything. The bread with beef dripping was devine. Every mouthful of food wad a flavour explosion, small and beautifully prepared. The use of quality ingredients and locally sourced and foraged ingredients is commendable. The chefs are already gathering next year's ingredients. All the staff are brilliant, with nothing being too much trouble. The kitchen is very busy but is such a calm place, with no shouting or falling out in evidence. Gareth and Amelia have got everything right here and have a superb team behind them. If good food is one of life's pleasures then you must visit here. A return trip when the game season in on is already being planned- we can't wait. Gareth and his excellent team are creating alchemy in Wales. They are taking cuisine to another level - no menu in advance, no choices - the chef works his magic and you sit back and let it happen. This is pure theatre, Michelin star at a stratospheric level! If you get to stay over, the rooms are lovely and the breakfast follows the same ethos - you turn up (on time), sit back and they wow you with the best of the day. Our expectations were high and they blowed them away - this needs to be on your bucket list (if you are lucky enough).

The only option available was the 22 course menu, no suggested wine flight so we had wine on the recommendation of the waiter as we had no idea what food we were having which was a little disappointing. Wine started at around £60 a bottle (£15 a glass) which was excessive and which made a very expensive evening exorbitant! Courses are very small and after the first 3/4 it all seemed to blur. Lots of soy and miso which overpowered much of the food which was a shame. The meat courses were beautifully cooked. Desserts were fine, but we had really run out of steam by then. The description of each course by the chefs got very tiring and as many of the ingredients are repeated monotonous.

Before we even entered the hotel we were greeted with the beautiful scenery, and the most stunning magnolia tree. We booked a garden room which was absolutely stunning. Perfect in every way. Whilst checking in we enjoyed a cocktail in the bar and a taster of what was to come for dinner. The decor is atmospheric and very rustic chic ! Th guys out the front were so helpful and friendly and it was great fun watching how much effort goes into making their cocktails. Records were being played on a record player !!!!! Not everyone will know what that is but it was fab. Then ... dinner ! Well, where to start ? It was simply a journey of taste that lasted some 4 hours. Just when you think your taste buds can’t surprise you any more, smack ..... more tastes and flavours that will never be forgotten ! And all in such a fun, upbeat, casual relaxed atmosphere. Once again the guys out front were informative, attentive and fun, and the guys in the kitchen, which is visible for all diners to see, worked as a team to delight us with 24 courses ! I will never forget this experience, and hope to return in September with friends. Keep up the excellent work girls and guys. It’s a magical place.

We spent 3 nights here , sampling the 20 course tasting menu on night 2. The hotel is in a beautiful place amongst the hills of Middle Wales. The room was very comfortable ( Matisse), very pink ( one not yet 'converted') and with a superb view of the Foel .The staff were lovely. On saying at breakfast on day2 that we didn't like duvets they changed the bed immediately to blankets and sheets. Nothing was too much trouble.

We booked this restaurant as a special treat after a review in the Guardian. It was a long way to come but we were thrilled with everything. The food is central to a complete sensory experience of shining glassware, great music choices and unusual wine pairings. This is not food for the faint hearted, the rushed or for those who want to leave feeling stuffed full of carbs.

We stayed one night at Ynyshir and ate in the restaurant. We opted for menu 2 which was the more meat based menu. In total it was 20 small courses focusing on British ingredients with some influence of Japanese flavours. Each course was delivered by the chefs themselves and suitably explained. The taste of all the dishes was exceptional. The service was suitably paced, and the atmosphere of the restaurant with its open kitchen made for added interest to the experience. The waiting staff were professional and efficient, and always on hand to ensure water glasses were topped up and any wine orders delivered in preparation for the up coming courses. Overall it was a great experience and the cooking style and restaurant layout is a little bit different from other restaurants we have been to.

Not been to Ynyshir Hall since Joan and Rob Reen owned and ran the hotel, we were not sure what to expect. The interior is now ultra modern lots of greys, blacks and dim lighting, gone is the homely comfy bar lounge with open fire, eclectic art and photos of past customers and historical information. Replaced by what felt like an impersonal - waiting to eat room. It was good to experience eating here but a few things did disappoint, maybe the Michelin star raised my expectations too much.

I raved to friends about this place last time I ate here but yesterday was completely different. What has happened to the great taste and erstwhile attentive staff? I am still shocked and suffering from indigestion into the early hours. Don't get me wrong the setting and log fire is welcoming, as is the reasonably prepared cocktail. Then we were placed next to a slushy machine in the dining room which ground away too close for comfort. When we asked to move, it was no problem. The No French Onion Soup was much more sour than I remembered but quite interesting, the duck was great, the bread as yummy as I remembered, but the mackerel dressing again was far too sharp tasting, the crab was fine but was no Katsu, the Cawl was in such a lot of vinegar/acid that when it hit the back of my throat it almost knocked my socks off! The lamb dishes were delicious but the fermented mint sauce was very sharp and overpowering. We risked the cheese (Tunworth) which was powerful...and good but the fermented slushy was not great. White chocolate black bean was quite pleasant but the sauce for the sticky toffee pudding was disgusting and far too aggressive and savoury ( not at all umami-like) even with the yet again fermented ice cream. The Cox Apple and custard was OK but the custard tasted too much like a tin of ambrosia custard..which is OK if you like it.The tiramisu is not half a good as last time but at least recognisable as a pleasant dessert but the Welsh Wagyu Fudge was gritty with beef dripping...very unpleasant taste in a so called sweet, which stayed with me for far too long. Then we had coffee and tea. The green tea was served in a cup which smelled of seaweed and lacked taste and the coffee was luke warm...which my mother happened to like but it didn't compare to it being carefully filtered individually like last last time. It is sad but true that a place I once delighted in has gone fermentation mad at the expense of good taste, additionally the staff ( at least with us) were less than enthusiastic in their explanations about the food, some were indeed quite abrupt...so I cannot concur with some recent reviews. Service overall was not so great....whereas we had been so well treated the previous time we came my mother even bestowed a kiss on the chef and an unsuspecting waiter ( well it was her 80th!). Finally, FULL payment upfront is a new one on me. In my case it wasn't fully explained beforehand. I thought I gave my credit card details for a deposit only to be made, as had been the case when I dined here before. My query on this met with a short email...seems like I had no choice in the matter, even if I had not to my knowledge given permission for full prepayment Can they do that? Not good practice as an initial interface with customers in the hospitality business...I certainly didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling.
