Restaurant at the Heathbank Hotel in Eilean Siar

A warm welcome in the bright and comfortable bar. A comfortable restaurant with a good menu featuring seafood , hearty classics and vegetarian Wellington. We sampled the Clootie dumpling. Excellent friendly service. Cannot comment on the view from the big windows as it was pouring with rain.

The food was delicious and the service very friendly. The surroundings were terrific and the view also good. Highly recommend.

We kept driving past this hotel and restaurant on a daily basis so decided to book in for evening dinner. It was absolutely superb. No faults, food was excellent and the staff were efficient and friendly. If you're visiting Barra I would definitely recommend stopping by. The bar is also lovely and open to non residents.

We ate dinner twice at the restaurant during our Stay at Heathbank. Both times the food was delicious and well prepared. The Breakfast was very good as well!

There were 5 of us dining for dinner and we had a table by the window to take in the view. The staff were friendly and took our order, most of the group ordered seafood which Barra is well known for, we were really looking forward to our meal especially as we got talking to the chef earlier in the day. To start, a few of us had the crispy beef which was delicious. Two of the group had langoustines for their main course and when they arrived at the table they were huge and very well presented, they tasted superb. Someone else in the group ordered the scallops and they said they were tender and very well cooked. For dessert most of the group shared a cheese board which I’m told was very tasty, beautiful cheese, chutney and oak cakes. We had a fantastic evening and we couldn’t fault the meal. Wishing everyone with continued success with the business.

Very busy for evening meals as not a lot of choice of restaurants on Barra. Very nice lounge and dining area. Specials are good as was the monk fish and sweet potato curry. Had good time.

Used for a pub venue also for a evening meal destination. Marion has taken the Heathbank to a new level. The restaurant extension has stunning views combined with a menu that will delight all. My choice was crispy duck to start with, then Monkfish with a sea juice followed by sticky toffee pudding. We visit every year and look forward to seeing Marion and her team again. Marion very kindly fitted us 4 non residents in for dinner last weekend when we needed an evening meal - and boy was it delicious. What a chef she is, our meals were well cooked and well presented. Staff were so friendly & helpful.

We stayed at the Heathbank and had dinner at the restaurant there. Very well appointed establishment with excellent quality local ingredients - locally caught langoustines and fish especially. The hotel itself has comfortable accommodation, clean and cosy.

There's not much to do on Barra when it's raining but Heathbank offered me refuge for about three hours! Had an excellent veggie burger.

We debated whether or not we should jump into our rental car and make the drive on the single track road to Northbay from Castlebay, but it was worth it. The menu had a nice variety of options, it was very clean, and the food was reasonably priced and delicious.

Went up for dinner on our first night in Barra. Luckily we booked the night before cause it was packed. Many locals too. They serve the great Barra gin. Friendly, young staff. I had the langoustines. Went here with friends. When they say scallop and blacpudding they do mean one small scallop. The meal was distinctly average, which was a shame as the venue was very nice

We were staying in a B&B; nearby and this hotel was recommended to us by the owner. We were lucky to find a table for five, because the restaurant was almost overbooked. The staff was friendly enough to squeeze us in. We had a quality dinner (monkfish, burgers, chicken and haddock). The atmosphere was very animated. We were amongst locals, which we appreciated very much. The staff was friendly and the music good. Should we ever return to Barra, we will most certainly go here again.

We had a birthday dinner recently and were delighted both with the food and the service. The seafood was so delicious and fresh. We felt it almost had jumped from the water on to our plate. Highly recommend this place.

Wood pigeon starter. Venison main course. Both perfectly cooked and presented. The service by local girls and pleasant and friendly. Some local fisherman were at the bar. The price was reasonable.

Had a very good meal with a local focus (cullen skink soup, haggis-stuffed chicken, smoked haddock risotto). It was very tasty indeed. Staff are very pleasant. We will definitely return on our next visit to Barra.

Our B&B; host recommended the Heathbank and we were not disappointed. Good and varied selection of meals in a comfortable lounge bar although we could have opted for the dining area. It was so good we ate here every night of our stay on Barra bar one !

We were due to fly back to Glasgow from Barra on 4th May. Unfortunately, the plane didn't arrive due to inclement weather. Loganair very quickly arranged an overnight stay for us and others at various sites on the island. We were fortunate to stay at this lovely friendly hotel. The staff were very kind to us tired, frustrated travellers. We had a lovely comfortable room with a great shower which is just what we needed after a long day sitting around at the airport! The room also had little extras such as USB ports for our phones which was a real plus.

We eat here twice and found the menu varied e food fresh and tasty and the service excellent .great value for money .would definitely recommend

Great food and friendly. Sign was not up when we were there so it was easily missed(although there isn't much chance of really being in the wrong place). What a fabulous place for an evening meal. The food was delicious. The orange cheesecake was gorgeous. We were non resident, so we reserved a table, and were given a lovely seat in the window. There were children running around, but that was not the fault of the hotel. Once they had left the restaurant, calm was restored. A lovely place, with fabulous food, set in a lovely area of Lovely Barra. Well recommended.

This restauarnt was recommended to us by locals working at Barra airport cafe and we can confirm that we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service very good. We ate rather early on a Saturday evening so they were not so busy. There were several dishes on the menu we could have chosen. Suggest you try them when you are on Barra.

I'd read the great reviews before our trip to Barra and we were not disappointed. We were so impressed with lunch on the first day that we all voted to go back there for lunch on day 2. Fish & chips and scampi were the popular options on day 1, all fantastic. Day 2 burgers were popular and again fantastic. Service was great and friendly and although the restaurant doesn't look much from the outside on the inside the views, food and hospitality were wonderful. A highlight of our break. Thank you Heathbank we'll definitely be back.

Excellent food in a very pleasant environment. As everywhere else in Hebrides the hospitality was excellent on both lunchtime visits here. Seafood chowder is the best we've ever had. Second visit I had two starters- the curried crab was huge and very very tasty.

On our visit on Barra we visited this restaurant on our last night. Though not very pretty on the outside, the inside was quite nice and cozy. At least in september there is no reservation needed.

If you want to eat out on Barra then you will probably eat here. The food is good and the service is attentive and friendly. I had the chowder, which was very tasty followed by the scampi. You have to have fish when you are so close to the sea.

Went here last night of our holiday and wish we'd been sooner as there was loads on the menu we would have liked to try. Scallops were amazing, all the food was excellent, staff were great. Can't fault it, when next on Barra we will be back.

I ordered the chowder as other TA reviews has raved about it. But I have rated chowder in Boston and unfortunately this one didn't compare. The scallops were excellent however, lightly cooked and served with pancetta and black pudding. Almost as good as The Ledbury in London and that is a big comparison. Good coffee too, but we didn't have dessert which looked a bit ordinary.

Nice views over the water. The staff were polite and 'on the ball'. Tourist friendly atmosphere. The food was well cooked and was what I would term decent 'pub grub'. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious and they poured a good pint of Guinness.

今回のアウター・ヘブリディーズ諸島周遊で、旅行社が取ってくれた宿泊先にこのレストランも有ったのですが、ここが島一番の人気レストランだとは後で知りました。ここに宿泊していた僕らは、近くにレストランらしきものは皆無のこの小さな島ではここで食べるの以外選択肢は無いという感覚でいたのですが、レベルの高さに驚きました。もちろん大都会に有る有名レストランとは比べ物にはならないが、全く期待していなかった分、とても嬉しいサプライズでした。特にメインに注文した超大型の帆立貝の一品は、スライスしたブラック・プディングが下に敷かれ、大きな帆立貝が乗っていて、その上にパンチェッタが乗っていて、帆立貝の旨味を引き出しています。本当に美味しい料理でした。それほど大きなレストランでは無いのですが、その割にメニューも色々有って、土地の人に人気がある理由が分かります。この島で夕食を食べるならこの店決まりだと思います。オススメです。

The building outside doesn't entice you in however the restaurant, food and service were very good. So much so we ended up returning the following evening. Certainly worth a visit.

Passing by this place - there is little or no incentive to go in! Signage is poor and unappealing. But in our experience this is a must place to visit / eat when in Barra. It has Michellin ratings and utilises the best fresh food / seafood that Barra has to offer. Inexpensive and of high quality, we would would highly recommend this hotel / restaurant.

Dopo aver letto le recensioni avevamo molte aspettative su questo ristorante, ma la nostra cena ci ha lasciati insoddisfatti e delusi.Abbiamo iniziato mangiando un cestino di sfoglia con formaggio di capra e delle piccole conchiglie (cockles) con un brodetto, tipiche della zona, ambedue discreti e dopo del haddock e dei gamberi (???) impanati , veramente mediocri, serviti con il medesimo contorno, piselli insapori e patate arrosto bruciate, forse perchè cotte più volte...Ci siamo astenuti dal prendere il dolce. I prezzi decisamente alti.

Chefs there produce outstanding food and they understand how to let the main ingredient shine. No messing about.Plumpest, juicy crab claws, naturally sweet, delicious with a simple butter garlic sauce.Mini bucket full of cockles in white wine garlic sauce with finely hopped onions - to die for.Velvety seafood chowder with big tender pieces of fish.Isle of Barra scallops also very tender and sweet.Local langoustines, again a generous portion with parsel lemon butter sauce.Most perfectly wobbly vanilla panacotta with fresh fruit - absolutely outstanding.

We ate here on two occasions during our trip to Barra and the food was excellent. There was a good selection of meals to choose from and the food was locally sourced.On the second visit the main restaurant area was fully booked but the staff kindly allowed us to sit in the breakfast room so that we were able to eat there.

10 meals, all fabulous, starters, mains and desserts just perfect.Thank goodness that at long last a Barra restaurant has embraced the islands fresh fish supply and serving beautifully presented food . Congratulations and I hope you do really well, you deserve to.

The food at the Heathbank is some of the best local produce, well cooked iwe've had in a long time. The menu is packed with fish which is landed at the Barra Atlantic depot less than half a mile away. They also have their own fishermen who land and supply directly the langouistines, prawns and scallops - it really does not get any fresher.They also home make all desserts and only use Scottish local cheeses. However, you can have all the best ingredients in the world and not cook them properly....but fear not, they are clearly very capable in the kitchen.Each dish we had was superb judging by the empty plates and smiles from our fellow diners this was the case with the whole menu.Even if you are staying down the road in Castlebay, arrange a taxi to get you up to the Heathbank - has to be the best restaurant serving local produce on the island.

Wonderful meals (4 of us), with great choices. I'm vegetarian and found it hard to decide what to have (quite unusual as it's usually goats cheese tart or risotto). Service was great. Would highly recommend this family establishment to all. Keep up the great work folks.

This is a pleasant restaurant. The menu is fish based but other stuff is available . Food is freshly prepared and we'll presented. The young serving staff are very personable and effective.

We had an amazing meal at Heathbank Hotel. I had the crab starter and it was amazing. We had a three week holiday touring the Highlands and Islands and this was the best, freshest, crab dish I had ever eaten. Our other courses were very good too (fish and chicken mains) but this was a dish to write home about. Very generous portion and delightfully spiced. The staff were very attentive and the service was good. A most enjoyable meal.

All four in our company had different choices from the varied menu but we were all united by the fact that the meal was of excellent quality and staff were friendly and efficient....well done Heathbank!

We are seafood foodies. The Heathbank scallops were the best we have ever had in 40 years.Hand dived(ethical ,not dredged),fresh as you can get. Huge in size and cooked with skill. Simply in butter and served with Charlie Barley Stornaway black pudding.Cauliflower and parmesan puree and parmesan wafers. The Heathbank is relaxed and unpretentious. Staff polite and friendly. Good value honest seafood as fresh as you can get it. The fishing boats are in the local bays. Barra is a very special island.

Foods great, we had a lovely meal . Gorgeous fish and chips - perfect batter and fresh fish and a very tasty stick toffee pud. Would definitely recommend!

Ich war 6 mal hier zum Dinner. Es gibt hier super leckeres Seafood. Ich habe immer richtig super gegessen. Die Jakobsmuscheln waren der Hit. Aber auch alles andere ist sehr zu empfehlen. Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam und schnell.

Seafood to die for, good surroundings and very pleasant and helpful staff. The owner was very attentive and provided info on the attractive paintings. The food was of a very high standard and at a fair price. It's a bit out of the way from the main centre of Castlebay but well worth a visit. Selfcareing, we didn't eat out that much, but Heathbank was the best that we encountered for an evening meal.

Over our week in Barra, we spent a few afternoons stopping off for a beer before heading to the cottage.Lovely relaxing atmosphere.

Dinner tonight here was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed both specials - cockles in a delicious sauce and scallops (the biggest and juiciest ever!) with Stornaway black pudding. The place was buzzing, and service was friendly and gentle.

We had lunch here last year and really enjoyed the food so we returned this year. The food was just as good. I had some delicious crab claws. My husband had a burger which he also really enjoyed.

10/10 for location. Food is about the same as you would get in an English pub but well cooked and presented. The only restaurant on the north side of the island and worth a stopOn a tour of Barra.
