Staff were efficient and friendly and the restaurant was comfortable. The food was slightly disappointing, unusually for this restaurant. Would try again but the aubergine main dish was not up to standard.

We stopped oer here to celebrat my 60th Birthday and had a family and friends meal too. We pre ordered the food to ensure it all ran smoothly and the food all came out pretty much together and on time not bad for a large table just before christmas. All of the meals were well cooked and up the the usual high standard we'd expect from the Dog & Doublet. Our room was large with plenty of space and the en suite was good and clean too. After arrial we enjoyed afternoon drinks by the log burner which was really cosy and festive. The following moring we enjoyed and excellent full cooked breakfast made from local produce. Highly recomended and although not far from home, we'd happily stop again.

Yet again my favourite place has delighted me with a perfectly cooked breakfast 10/10 Service by Clare and Becky impeccable as usual. It’s my perfect place to wind down and treat myself to some relaxing me time…. Thank you 😊

We went for Sunday breakfast as a birthday treat and it was absolutely fantastic. The service was first class . A special shout out to our waitress ( who has a very unusual name that I can’t spell) polite, efficient and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommended. Make sure you are super hungry !! .

I stayed at the Dog & Doublet Inn whilst away with work. Room was cosy, Bar was well stocked and friendly. But the absolute best part of my stay was 100% the full English breakfast WOW! I have stayed in more hotels than I can remember but this was without question The Best Breakfast I have EVER had. You have a genuis in the kitchen that you MUST keep hold of 😘 Will definitely stay here again

Popped in for a birthday breakfast having enjoyed dining here previously. Sadly this visit was very disappointing. When we arrived we waited at the till area to be seated. There was obviously an issue with the bill for another customer and we must have waited 15 minutes at least to be seated, without even an acknowledgment or apology from the staff member, which I found very rude. We then had another long to have our order taken. Breakfast eventually arrived which we both enjoyed very much. Unfortunately, no staff member came to check on us to see if our food was ok, and getting coffee topped up was very hard work!! The cleanliness of the pub definitely left a lot to be desired. The windows we were seated near looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for months and the stone floor was filthy. Toilets weren’t much better. Sadly won’t be returning as this was not value for money. 5* food but 1* service and cleanliness.

£28 for a sharing meat and fish platter. Definitely not worth the money. Not hot, poor quality food. Avoid ordering one of these. Flies everywhere in one of the outside seating area. Will not be going back

My wife and I were extremely disappointed with lack of cleaning in our room, the carpet was dirty and clearly had not seen a hovered in a very long time. Lamp on the desk was covered in dust. The bathroom was totally unacceptable and I’m not sure who is in charge of checking the cleaning routine that clearly is not in place but I think they need a complete restructure of who is accountable. The whole shower was brown and has not been cleaned in a very long time. Mould on the ceiling. We have stayed in many different locations and understand that you get what you pay for, however the very basic expectation of the facilities being cleaned is standard. Well you would think so. Such a shame because the place has potential and the staff were pleasant. We enjoyed breakfast but really couldn’t wait to leave the room and get home.

We waited over an hour for food, which when it came was not great - cheap, processed meal which lacked taste. Certaunly not value for money or worth the wait. The best thing about the place is Gail - polite, helpful, apologetic and very reasonable in her response to our dissatisfaction.

Very good food and service, nice to have plenty of GF options, will return, thanks for a great experience.

Stopped here for lunch on Good Friday after navigating the busy traffic. So glad we did- a perfect, dog friendly place with outside seating and a lovely, lovely menu! We shared a ploughman's platter which I can highly recommend. Service was outstanding

A traditional pub with a delicious and wide choice of both English and Chinese food. A great choice of gluten free options and also Child and Dog friendly. Friendly staff and management who will help in any way they can. This pub is truly special and very well run, with a good variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Set in a lovely position on the canal and perfect for couple's, families and friends.

Great overnight stay with entertainment. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. My room was warm cosy and the bed so comfortable. I slept like a baby. The entertainment was second to none and those Cocktails were delicious!

Not what we expected, the waitress was really nice, took our drinks order then after bringing our drinks took our order, my mums table had their order taken soon after.We got our starters pretty quickly which were very nice and not long after, our mains arrived.My mum however still hadn't received her soup, I asked a couple of different members of staff if it was on its way and in the end it took so long and was delaying everyone elses meal so she cancelled it!! The children were really hungry but still no sign of their meals, we weren't really enjoying ours at all and it was made worse that we had had 2 courses and they were STILL waiting!!We were on a time schedule due to being on the boat so asked for our bill so we could get through the lock.The waitress asked if everything was ok which was obviously a no as none of us had eaten that much of our mains.,The gammon only had a spoonful of pineapplepuree, a grilled pineapple would have much been better, the eggs on both meals were hard and the chips were very dry and pale.My beef was over done, the roast potatoes were very dry ,the pork crackling was floppy rubber and the cauliflower cheese had no cheese flavour at all, I also had no stuffing. My son had the burger and said it was tasteless so left nearly all of it.The waitress said if we'd complained at thestart they could've put things right but the speed the food was coming out of the kitchen was that slow that it would've made us even later.They knocked the starters off the bill.... we had no issues with thestarters, just all of our mains.Reguarding everyones comments on their experience on my birthday lunch they also complained about the meal.Extremely slow service despite looking wellstaffed, no consideration given to the fact there was hungry small children. The starter was cancelled as too slow to arrive, the childrens beef was very red and bloody, very off putting for a child of 9 (totally the opposite to mine)The chips pale and undercooked, no stuffing with the mixed roast, chicken nuggets were inedible even though my granddaughter was really hungry, my mum hates peas and asked for none with her meal and got a load of mushy peas.They had great difficulty attracting anyones attention to ask for stuffing etc and as they were round the corner and having to shout to them, I heard my mum say " Well, I wouldn't rush back here!!" One member of staff definitely heard her so perhaps they were avoiding them because they realised they were not happy??Perhaps you should send your staff on a customer service course as the worst thing you can do is to ignore an unhappy customer.On this occasion your front of house was let down by the speed of the food coming out and the quality too,I had Tripad good reviews prior to booking but I can't say I felt the same, very disappointing.

We were recommended the Dog & Doublet by the owners of the B&B we stayed at and it lived up to the recommendation.A decent menu, staff who were welcoming (yet still adhered to social distancing protocols) and a nice atmosphere.We all enjoyed our meals and wouldn't hesitate to return again if we were in the area.

Visited for a belated anniversay meal following the ease of restrictions due to Covid-19.As soon as we arrived we felt comfortable. We had prebooked to eat in the den- social distancing very much in place due to change of table layout.Staff were very well presented, wearing masks and gloves when bringing out food/drinks.Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We reall enjoyed our evening and I am very happy the pub is up and running again. Will be back.

From the outset everything which could be in place for covid was. We had a shared baked Camembert which was delicious. For our main we had lasagne with garlic bread, topped with rocket and parmesan. It was stunning, cooked as if it was homemade with care. Recommendations are always subjective but this was a delight.

Lovely lunch out with my wife. First visit here post lockdown and it’s all set out very reassuringly - well spaced tables, one way system, hand sanitiser at entrance. Really lovely lunch served by happy efficient staff all wearing masks and gloves. Social distancing adhered too and even the loos were regularly sanitised.Spent a few hours there and was relaxed to the extent that safety wise was able to forget all about the dreaded covoid.Well done Dog and Doublet. Our first visit to a pub post lockdown. Walked in to an outside table we struggled with the App but the waitress was very helpful our Sunday dinner arrived almost immediately after ordering and was great. Beautiful buttery vegetables and large Yorkshire pudding with good beef and roast potatoes. Social distancing and one way system inside made me feel very comfortable when using the facilities. Will definitely be back thank you for making our first post lockdown experience so comfortable.

THIS MAY BE YOUR FIRST REVIEW IN THE OUTCOME OF THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN. -but we are simply appalled by the experience we received tonight, this is not the first time but I can assure you it will be the LAST! Overall, The Dog & Doublet is exceptional for drinks only but in terms of 3 course meals, it is not something that one would recommend. To start with, we had a beer soaked cutlery , table and jeans - myself and my friends were thoroughly wet throughout our meal and it is purely the wettest we have been through lockdown due to the hot weather we have recently had. It was up until then that more unfolded, as the wrong meal was bought out to me, till I had to assure them that it wasn't my meal, it was that then, when my correct meal was presented, half of the meat was missing and I was promised "A FEW MORE KOFTAS WILL BE WITH YOU SOON" and by their meaning of a "A FEW" it was instead only 1! This was not the only dissapointment of our experience but my friend asked for a steak as medium/rare, instead it was presented as medium - from this the same steak was presented on a different plate WELL DONE - Not only this but it was the same steak taken back to the chef instead turned over, as we know this thanks to my friend inserting a cut into the sirloin, he then sent this back, which was then later told they had ran out sirloin

First visit upon reopening. The restaurant was well set out for socially distanced dining. The service was speedy, slick and respectful of personal space. The food as always was excellent. Well done team DD.

We visited this Pub for a birthday meal for 6 of us. The surrounding are appealing but at every stage the service was appalling Order drinks at Table 15 mins later we have to remind them then again and again 3 times in total for 3 seperate drink orders !!. Steak ordered medium well came well under twice sent back. Asked for Vinegar 3 times again.!! Asked for cup of Tea again had to re ask 15 mins later. The whole experience was bad. Service was awful. The only time we got what we asked for quickly was the Bill came within a couple of minutes what a suprise !!!

Went for a Sunday dinner today with 3 friends and the food was fantastic and the service was brilliant. Couldn’t recommend it enough! Order the beef and you won’t regret it!

We went with friends as they had been before and said it was good, however on this night we must have hit the wrong night, three of us had steak and one the fish pie, although the fish pie was good the three steaks and chips were cold also the three dishes of sauce, we sent the sauce back to be warmed up to try and make the meal warmer as it would have been too much of a problem to send the lot back, we informed the staff who didn't appear that bothered. I can only think that the meals had been left standing to go that cold. My wife noticed that a knife had been knocked off one of the tables and the waitress just picked it up and put it back on the table. They didn't even ask if we wanted a sweet or coffee they plonked the bill on the table and left. Last time we go there.

The bar was not busy and yet my partner had to wait ten minutes to get 2 drinks. We informed the waiting staff that we had arrived for dinner however they never came to tell us our table was ready. When we eventually presented ourselves we were shown through and seated. Most of the staff were, I'm sorry to say, incredibly slow and robotic, showing no personality or interest whatsoever. Starter was ok however the bbq ribs on the grazing board were flavourless and certainly bbq-less. The salsa dip with the halloumi fries was obviously just tinned tomato and sugar. The olives and scratchings were nice though. The fries that came with the chicken burger were not cooked and the cheese on the burger was tough as it had been overdone. Fish and chips - the fish was a little greasy. Trio of sausages were nice however the meal came with no veg or salad (apart from a tiny bit of cress). No attempt to take plates away and offer dessert, we just had to eventually call someone over. The desserts were nice, the best part of the meal by far. Overall disappointing and we will not be returning anytime soon. Our impression was that the place was understaffed and the staff that were there were, in the most part, slow and disinterested, and that corners are being cut to save money. I leave this review not to whinge but in the hope that the feedback will be taken on-board and improvements implemented.

A pleasant, comfortable lunch venue. Service is always efficient and friendly. We chose a light lunch option and everything was delicious. Good value for money.

We visited on Saturday evening and were rather disappointed We arrived half an hour or so early to have a drink before eating and as we walked from the car park we noticed a number of tables were empty in the restaurant We went to the bar and ordered drinks and told the young lady we had a reservation and to put the drinks on our billShe was pleasant and told us our table was not ready and that someone would fetch us when it was ready, we understood this as we were early and sat in the bar to have our drinksOur reservation time came (8.15) and we were not approached to be taken to our tableA few minutes later I went to the desk at the entrance to the restaurant and was told by a member of staff our table was not readyAbout 5 minutes later he returned to take us to our table, which surprisingly was one of the empty ones we saw on our way inWe ordered our meals and the starters came quite quickly. My wife had whitebait and I had the terrine, both dishes were fine but the terrine came with 2 very small slices of bread, bigger slices or more slices were definitely neededOur mains arrived and my wife stated that the chicken in her katsu curry was rather dry and the small amount of sauce tasted ad if it had come from a jar I had ordered the 10oz Gannon steak but when it arrived there were 2 small pieces of Gannon on the plate. One thick, one thin, that looked like offcuts, it was obvious that they were not from the same steak, they were probably not even from the same pigThe Gannon came with chips and an egg, most places I've eaten provide a salad garnish, peas etc with the gammon and for the price charged I had expected the same here.The good was ok but the presentation was underwhelming At the end of our meal we expressed our disappointment to the staff and she was understanding and kindly knocked 25% off the mains billWhen the bill came we had been charged £7.15 for glass of wine we had not hadThis was quickly removed from the bill but all in all the evening was a disappointment and I doubt we will be returning

Fantastic evening went for our Anniversary and we had a great time . Had a drink before dinner and then we sat and relaxed to choose our food.We decided to have chicken and a veggie starter both lovely.And for the mains we had the mussels in a coriander sauce served with bread and we ordered fries as well all lovely.We had a most enjoyable evening staff were helpful and friendly and the restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere too . We will be back soon thank you all

We were looking forward to an enjoyable anniversary meal but it was tasteless and overcooked. My husband had a Camembert starter which was served in its wrapping and a fish pie that was piled high with mashed potato with very little fish. I had goats cheese and Seabass which was dry and overcooked. We did not try the desserts for obvious reasons.We will not be going again.

Saturday night for dinner. Staff very professional, service was prompt and didn't have to wait for anything. Kept us supplied with drinks through the meal. Meals were top notch, compliments to the chef. The menu had something for everyone without being overly large. I had traditional fish and chips. The haddock was large, the batter was super-light and crunchy. The chips here thick cut home made. The star was 'crushed peas'. Thinking it was a fancy name for mushy peas I was pleasantly surprised, it was a sort of firm pea mash that was very more-ish and left me wanting to re-create it when I got home. Nice dish of tartare sauce. I only managed a starter and main as the portions were large and I couldn't manage a sweet. Atmosphere was good, it was very busy but I could see the staff were on top of their game. There's a good sized car park and access is good. The bill was very fair. We will go again.

Called in whilst passing and had lovely lunch with attentive staff making us feel very welcome. Very good choice on menu and all food was well cooked an presented.
