Restaurant at The Crown Inn Hotel in Babergh

We stayed here for a couple of nights, while we were celebrating my friends 60th birthday party in a nearby village. Everything was great, room was fine, food good. Our only complaint was, when we returned from our friend's party between 10-10.30 pm on the Saturday night, the place was closed and in darkness. For a Saturday night, we were shocked, and as residents I was looking forward to a night cap. Unfortunately that wasn't to be. Such a shame, as if there was a night porter who could have fulfilled our request, would have given it a top review. All the staff were lovely.

Main course turned up, great. But we had ordered starters which had obviously been forgotten. So the main course had to be taken away. The restaurant was deserted so no excuses. As per my previous review, USE A PAD TO WRITE DOWN THE ORDER. Food was fine.

Great hotel with lovely staff. Comfy bed and great shower with a hearty breakfast 👌. We arrived early and were allowed to take the room straight away.

Terrible Restaurant with horrible rude Staff We were group of Pensioners one of whom was disabled We booked at 2pm only to be told the kitchen closed at 2.30 We were bullied by the Manager and staff who in the ned refused to serve us as one of our party arrived two minutes too late Mr Barnes claims to run a family business More like the SS from Germany Have told everyone how dreadful this place truly is Avoid at all costs

We stayed 2 nights at this fantastic bar restaurant and occomadation Friendly from all the staff The food amazing top marks for taste presentation couldn't fault at all Nothing was to much trouble First time I'd stayed in a pub Was made to feel like part of there family Even the delivery man who every day brought fresh ingredients he stopped for a chat The double room was fresh spotlessly clean fresh towels great shower very large room and comfy bed had everything we needed 100% we recommend the crown was sorry to leave but we are already planning to go back ty so much we was so stressed when we arrived as in middle of se*lling a house and bought a bungalow .it was so relaxing being around such lovely people they deserve ***** We met one of the chefs had nice chat and please please keep a hold on your chefs you need to be rewarded mich stars there skills out standing kindest regards cathy and Danny

We had a great Christmas lunch at the Crown, Turkey with all the trimmings (amazing), delicious Christmas pudding and a delightful lemon cheesecake. The hotel was beautifully decorated with Christmas trees and there were roaring log fires which gave a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant was busy and the staff worked exceptionally hard. The food here is amazing but the greatest asset to this lovely hotel restaurant is the staff. Well done to everyone for a great service and Merry Christmas to you all.

They say they cater for vegans but they didn't even have non dairy milk. The lady was very rude about this. Food average.

My wife and I went in for a meal which was very average but when we paid the bill in cash we waited for our change. They took it upon themselves to presume our change was the tip so did not bring out change. So a few pieces of scampi and a few frozen chips and a piece of fish with a couple of new potatoes cost £50

We ate twice in the restaurant. The portions were generous and well cooked. The service was friendly and efficient. The room was lovely and warm as was the welcome. We would happily eat there again.

Four of us for a meal. Food ok, 2 bad pints (off). Alternative begrudgingly offered but no apology. Supposed to be a Free House, but no better than the others in Melford (all Greene King)

We ate in the large, airy, dog friendly bar on two occasions. Both very good. Portions are generous, quality generally very good, an under cooked steak was rectified without fuss. The pork belly in Thai broth was outstandingly good though the inclusion of a poached egg to the dish, whilst not unpleasant, seemed rather pointless. Very disappointed they had run out of Sunday roasts when we visited at 3.00 pm though, to be fair, we had been warned the previous day. It does beg the question why not prepare more? Good selection of beers and wines and a wide ranging menu that offers something for most tastes. The otherwise pleasant garden is spoiled by cooking odours from the nearby kitchen vents. Recommended, go early if you want a Sunday roast!

I spent a single night at this country hotel. It's a lovely old building with quirky areas and uneven floors. It had a small island bar with real ale on tap, and the majority of the seating is set up for dining. The owner, Nick, is a very friendly and accommodating host, who has owned this freehouse pub/hotel for 17 years. 5 star food hygiene is the rating for here, and the menu is varied and reasonably priced. I stayed in room 3 which has a high ceiling and it's very spacious. The bed was comfortable (albeit a little creaky!) and the en suite was well appointed and clean. The shower was large, and had rainshower as well as moveable head. If I had to criticise the shower, it would be that there is no grab handles, or any shelves for shampoo etc. There was a large wardrobe with hangers, make up mirror and tea and coffee facilities. The large dash window was lovely, but would have benefited from a net curtain to allow privacy when the blackout curtains are open. Being a quiet village, there isn't too much noise from passing traffic. All in all, a lovely, bijou hotel in beautiful surroundings with lovely staff. Recommended.

This is a really nice small country hotel, we ate here with business friends, the choice of beer and drinks was excellent. The food was really good, one of the best steaks I have ever had, we had a brilliant evening.

Thank you for a fab meal! The menu was very extensive and plenty to choose from. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We work in customer service and really notice when we get treated properly. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality. We would definitely recommend eating here!

Coeliac friends or if you're going for dinner with one, never go to The Crown Inn please! They had a designated menu but with chips in a shared frier because the chef said "the frier heat kills any gluten." no no No! I was polite as much as possible when I said “Jamie Oliver was ridiculed for saying that. If that was the case bread from an oven would kill gluten" a bit shaken, I left there with no confidence and worried how many people they've made ill! I was Probably labled a "Karen" I doubt they'll listen and stop. But I can't not pass it on🤦🏻‍♀️ the chef obviously doesn't understand.

I recommend booking, had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch, with 3 different roasts to choose from, as well as regular menu. Accompanied by lovely serve of vegetables We say at the back part of the hotel with windows looking out, just perfect for a cold day

We had a great dinner at the Crown Inn Hotel just before we spent the night. All the food we ordered was very nice, including the fish and chips and the moules mariniere. We were served quick and efficiently.

We wanted somewhere special and we found it in this pub/restaurant. Fine food, great un-rushed service in a relaxed atmosphere. Very nice will definitely go back again.

Me and my son stopped here last night wanting a proper cooked meal after a very long day at A&E. We opted for a roast dinner, 1 x pork, 1 x Lamb, I have to say this was the best roast dinner I have ever had from a pub, the roast potatoes were proper crispy, the meat cooked to perfection, veg a little on the hard side but still very tasty, especially the cauliflower cheese, perfect crackling and the gravy had so much flavour to it. Staff very attentive, nothing was to much trouble for them, even the very fussy gentleman that came in after us, the barman dealt with his demands in a very professional manner. Couldn't fault anything and will definitely be returning. Thank you 😊

Called in here yesterday on one of my first days out after an illness. As the portions going to nearby tables were very generously portioned, I fellback on an old ploy of my father and ordered two contrasting starters. Both the smoked duck and the roquefort and walnut tartlet were excellent and came with a small well dressed salad. My wife had the smoked salmon salad wich came with a serving of butered baby potato. I am sure we will return when my appetite is back to full form to tackle on of the inviting mains. Thank you.

We live locally and have been to the Crown before, but not since 2019. Our friends visiting, were staying here, so we booked a meal for the four of us on their last night. The menu is so good and "different" it was difficult to choose.It was an excellent meal. The starters were so good, the main courses all of good quality, and well cooked and good presentation. Only the men could manage dessert!So, thanks to Chef, waitresses and management for a very successful evening. You certainly didn`t "let us down" !!

Booked for an evening meal as staying the night. As with all pub/restaurants now, it’s table service only and this was very good. All the staff are wearing face shields and all are very friendly. The food is excellent. I had the duck started and the chicken, leak and mushroom pie, which you could tell, is all made on site. The pie crust was just the right thickness and cooked to perfection. The content of the pie was fabulous, stuffed with plenty of chicken etc. My other half had the fillet of salmon with new potatoes and hollandaise sauce which was very filling and superb. Followed with really nice coffee, and then a pint of a guest ale. No rush to vacate th3 table for others as one the table is booked by you, it’s yours for the evening. Very enjoyable at a very reasonable price.

Had dinner with girlfriend & parents, excellent food & service, reasonably priced. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant if you like good food. Well done Crown.

Our first visit and we came to meet friends over lunch. We received a warm welcome, table ready for us and attentive service throughout without being intrusive. We felt very relaxed and spent almost 3 hrs eating and chatting.Interesting and varied menu all reasonably priced. I had the lamb steak which was cooked to perfection and attractively presented. All of us enjoyed our lunch. There is obviously a talented chef in the house.We would love to return and recommend highly.

Warm Cider and below average food at higher than average prices. When your paying the price you are for Dressed crab you expect at least the white meat of the crab and home cut chips but instead you get brown meat with frozen overcooked chips and a prepackaged coleslaw. Pasta need seasoning and pork belly was massively over cooked. When you expect to pay above average prices you would hope the food would have been better. Mango cider was nice but definitely needed to be colder Service was good and staff were friendly just really let down by the food.

We visited today as a party of three under the name of mayhew the welcome was friendly and inviting immediately felt comfortable, what can I say about the food?……. Delicious! The crab was fresh and so good my partner had gammon eggs and chips the eggs well iv never seen such yellow yolks, mother in law had fish and chips she said the fish was delicious but too much for her (she’s an old girl!) overall cannot fault it especially the lovely young lady who served us who was so nice and friendly, I will happily recommend this lovely place to anyone especially after these horrible and hard times

Food was great and excellent service and staff but what let this place down is the rooms , paper thin walls and the noise was bad , took two too three hours to get to sleep, then the following morning at 6am noise again , if you come here bring ear plugs

Had dinner there last night. We had the half pint of prawns and the shredded duck for our starters followed by the lamb and pork belly for mains.All the food was delicious and hot and portion sizes were huge.Staff all friendly and helpful.Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had a lovely lunch yesterday. The staff were incredibly pleasant and helpful despite the difficult conditions with a gale force wind blowing! The food is superb. I had the sea bass with sundries tomato linguine which was delicious. Well done to you all for getting through what must have been a very difficult year.

My wife and I tried the pub a couple of weeks ago for a drink and liked the menu plus the friendly staff. After we were let down by another pub in the area, we called to see if they could fit us in for lunch. Glad we did, The service was friendly and efficient. Good menu and the food itself did not disappoint. If you are looking for good pub food (not a gastro pub),nice choice of wines all served with a smile, then pop in and you will not de disappointed.

We booked a table for three people on our second night in Long Melford. The menu had a good choice with a good varied wine list or drinks from the bar. Despite the difficult times the service was friendly and efficient. We decided to go straight for the main course of which we choose calves liver and bacon and steak and ale pie all were served hot and well presented and were very tasty. Eton Mess and Cheesecake finished off a lovely evening.

Met friends for a wonderful lunch today. Food was really good service was quick and very attentive. They don’t operate a child’s menu but catered to my 5 year old off the main menu. Very good COVID aware processes in place making it as comfortable as you can be under current regulations. Worth a visit and supporting local businesses in these tough times.

We ate here on our first night in Long Melford as we weren't sure where to go and your reviews were good. We were going to try the Black Lion but it was closed!We were not disappointed with our choice, the service was good, food delicious and surroundings tranquil. We sat in the garden by the wall and had a lovely evening. The meat pie was delicious as was the chocolate brownie pudding.

Staff were friendly and attentive. The food was hot and well presented and tasty. We stayed three nights in Long Melford and this was our favourite restaurant.

We booked a table a couple of days ahead and were warmly welcomed and shown to a table with plenty of room around it. The menu was varied with plenty of choice and the wine list had plenty of interesting options. Service was friendly and efficient. We started with breaded Brie and cranberry sauce, generous portions, well cooked with a fresh side salad. Mains of calves liver and crispy bacon and sirloin steak with a peppercorn sauce were both well cooked and presented. A relaxed atmosphere and delicious food made for a great evening.

Had a lovely Friday night dinner at The Crown this weekend, food and service both excellent. I wanted to give a particular recommendation to the brilliant wine list, really varied and well priced, such a refreshing change! We had a truly wonderful bottle of Mercurey, but there were lots of great options. Thanks!

So disappointed with our recent visits. We moved to the area 2 years ago and enjoyed our visits to The Crown. Unfortunately post lockdown they have an awful new barmaid, she’s extremely rude and makes you feel very uncomfortable and not at all welcome. We have dined here in the past and had a great experience but since lockdown has ended this new barmaid has ruined our faith in The Crown. We’re actually very upset that we won’t be visiting again.

Nice beer garden. Reasonable beer but Older lady serving behind the bar serving it was THE most miserable service I’ve experienced in a long time.Place good . Service rubbish. Won’t be back . Shame

The restaurant was spotlessly clean and pretty quiet for a Friday night. Friendly staff and excellent food. We would definitely return if we were in the area again.

Despite the Covid restrictions, The Crown served up great food and kept smiling, with a short but excellent and well-priced wine list to accompany (where else do you find a choice of decent dessert wines at a country pub?). Portions were large, but quantity was not a substitute for quality - this food was crafted and prepared with skill and care.

Hats off to Nick, Angela & the Team for providing a consistent second to none service especially in these unprecedented times when all clientele are made to feel comfortable & safe plus waiting staff provided with a first class table service yet still abiding with Government CV19 guidelines unlike some other establishments located in Long Melford who obviously seem to think they are exempt from current legislation regarding social distancing, sanitisation, staff wearing visors etc .....Being long established residents of Long Melford with the Crown Hotel being just a short walk door to door we highly recommend the Sunday Lunch plus other fresh fine fare on offer on the ever changing daytime & evening menu complimented with a good choice of wines to suit most palates so give the Crown a try as you won’t be disappointed.....All bestStephen & SadieLong Melford

Delighted that The Crown has opened again. Very organised in terms of seating guest re: coronavirus - staff all have masks on. Very very clean. Lovely beer garden. Would recommend.

Really lovely food, very good indeed. Lovely people too. Not a cheap pub meal, but stands out as very good.

Myself and my partner booked here for valentine's evening and to be honest were quite disappointed.The welcome at the door was warm and we were quickly offered a drink but it went down hill from there. We were ignored when we tried to ask to go to our table after our drinks and had to wait some time for our order to be taken even though staff appeared to be standing around. The food was ok but nothing too spectacular ,my partner's fish was over cooked and the waitress really didn't seem to care that we were unhappy with it as no apology or replacement was offered .It was the staff that made the night so disappointing especially on valentine's when we were so looking forward to it .Everyone seemed quite indifferent and bordering on rude .This made the mediocre food quite a bit worse I'm afraid .

My partner and I were staying in the area and were going to eat at a pub a short walk from where we were staying. We found that the owners were away so they were not serving food so we had a change of plan and drove into Long Melford. There were several places we could choose from but I liked the sound of the menu. We were both really pleased with the choice. The food was excellent with me having the moule mariniere and my partner having tagiatellie. The butterscotch bread and butter pudding is also a must. We could not fault the service with the two staff being attentive but not intrusive. I would highly recommend the Crown.

Came here for a pre-booked lunch with friends. We got the table that my friend had requested. The food & service here were excellent. Although we didn't have starters, the choices looked very good. For our Mains, my gluten free friend was fully catered for with the Braised Lank Shank, with a gluten free gravy, I had the Vegetarian Lasagne & my partner & our other friend had the Steak & Ale Pies which came with a good sized dish of vegetables - all of the main courses were very well prepared, presented & delicious. My partner & one of our friends also had pudding, they also looked & (apparently) tasted very good. Love that they have suggested wines to go with the dishes.

Having made an error with our reservation and continually stating it was our fault the manager was rude and offensive. We were also put in the bar even though we made it clear at the time of booking that we wanted the restaurant. The meal was just ok, but due to the manager's behaviour we would not recommend nor be back again. Disappointing for the staff who did their best to make it a good evening which was already spoilt before the meal even arrived on what was supposed to be a special birthday evening meal.

Had lunch today at the Crown, got turned away from a pub just up the road as all tables full! Got to Crown and was virtually empty a few at the bar, we were a little concerned.To our surprise the food was great, fresh and well presented. The restaurant is impeccable however no atmosphere, and again although the service was the same impeccable it was a little Acorn antiques. I would happily Recommend the food but little or no ambience.

Had lunch with my wife today at theCrown Long Melford.Excellent menu and service.Both had tiger prawns and smoked salmon to start which was very good.My wife had Mussels and I had lamb shank for main . Both were excellent.Have eaten here before and always very satisfied.

Had eaten here in spring, whilst staying at the dowdy, neglected Bull along the street. This time we stayed 2 nights, and were very impressed by the rooms, food & service provided for the middle-of-road prices. The room was fresh, clean & contemporary, as were the public areas. Much as we enjoy eating in the bar sometimes, it's nice to have a more secluded, intimate setting, & the restaurant provided that. The staff were unfailingly polite & attentive (special mention to Jenna, our breakfast hostess, discreet yet calm & ever-present), & refreshingly well-mannered (if one more waiter asks me `are you done..?', they may well wear what's left on the plate). The food, be it fish, steak or pork, were excellent & cooked to our taste. All in all, hard to fault for the price, no doubt it has fluctuations in quality, but overall you got the feeling that the staff & management were all pulling in the same direction.

We regularly patronise the Crown however this afternoons visit was spoilt by the fact the pub now seems to permit vaping indoors. Hope this was an oversight if so pub staff need to be suitably advised. If it is pub policy then big bad mistake. Other pub chains ban vaping. The smell is obnoxious

The welcome was warm we were shown to our room which was in a building separate from the hotel, the steel steps were a put off could be dangerous if wet or frozen.The room was nice looked quite new, bathroom was nice and roomy.Breakfast ok cooked was tasty not a lot of other choice a couple of yoghurts small amount of fruit and usual boxes of cereal and juice didn't have evening meal here.pub part was nice open fire.

Although we booked a table in the restaurant, we opted to eat in the bar as there were two large parties in the restaurant. The bar area was spacious with a good atmosphere. The menu is nicely varied and our choices of Soup, Garlic Button Mushrooms followed by Steak and Chicken, Leek and Mushroom Pie, were all good.

Very good food, very friendly service. Some misinformation over what was nut free on one occasion which limited my choice unnecessarily, or I would have rated excellent. My husband never had a bad meal there.

We came for lunch, we were impressed. Plenty of choice on the reasonably priced menu. Our food was hot, well cooked and nicely presented. Good sized portions and a good selection of drinks. This is a clean, spacious pub/restaurant. Service was good and the staff were friendly and polite. Plenty of parking, clean toilets and a beer garden. Recommended

Enjoyed a delicious Three Course Meal here on Saturday evening.

The pub interiorhas been decorated in a warm raspberry pink colour and we enjoyed a good meal here. Doors lead onto the terrace garden outside. I had a prawn cocktail, others a fish cake with a spicy dressing. Sea bream and duck were enjoyed also. Delicious desserts including caramelised bread and butter pudding and raspberry roulade.

Nice little pub but need signs in beer garden with designated smoking tables instead of guess work 👍

I ordered a Ploughmans lunch at 1.00pm.... to be told... No Salad!!!!... O.K. change to baked potato with cheese...Sorry... No cheese!!! What kitchen has no salad, and no cheese, mid week at the height of lunch time....especially when there was a little shop not 100yrds from Hotel!!! Needless to say we walked out, and went across the road, where we had a superb lunch. Oh well.. their loss.

My partner and I stopped here for lunch on Sunday after visiting the lovely town of Long Melford. The restaurant and garden were fairly busy but not completely full so we walked through the garden and then in to the bar looking for a table, we eventually picked a table in the garden. I specifically looked for the table number after over hearing a member of staff asking a couple ordering what their table number was but our table, and the ones around it, didn't have one. I walked through an open door back towards the bar to get some menus and it was at this point I was stopped by another member of staff and told to "stop using that door as it was unfair to diners" who were sat in what looked like the conservatory, I explained that we were sat in the garden and I was just getting a menu and she said it didn't matter I had to use the door at the end of the building. My partner and I chose not to eat here as we felt unwelcome. Avoid.

I rarely find a restaurant that can cater for my dietary requirements. I am a coeliac, lactose and citric acid intolerant. Nick, the owner sorted out two options for starter, main and pudding during a friendly and efficient email exchange.

Enjoyed 2 good evening meals here whilst staying at the Bull hotel just up the road. You can eat either in the restaurant or the bar or there is a delightful large outside area - lovely on a warm evening. Wide-ranging menu with fair prices. Staff were particularly welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended.

Meal was excellent all four of us emptied our plates. The staff super and efficient but friendly. The atmosphere was good and welcoming.

Staying nearby, looking for somewhere to eat, consulted trip advisor and selected The Crown Inn. The restaurant was busy and we chose to eat in the bar. A friendly atmosphere with happy locals. Friendly bar staff made us welcome. Good selection on the menu and when food arrived was beautifully served and tasted as good as it looked. Tripadvisor score well deserved and a good choice if in the area.

My wife and I had a lovely meal in the restaurant yesterday evening. Good choice and good quality at reasonable prices. Friendly and efficient staff.

Needed a stopover between visiting friends in Essex and Suffolk. Great location. Warm welcome. Good restaurant food. Nice room - large, warm and well serviced. Good breakfast. Staff very attentive and knowledgeable.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon with a large group of family. The staff were friendly and food was served exceptionally quickly. Everything was beautiful and very tasty, I only wish there had been more of it! And perhaps a few more options on the menu for vegetarians / vegans. But overall, a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere. The one thing I would say was that one of the waiters seemed to have a little bit of an attitude, particularly when serving our food. But other than that, everyone was perfectly pleasant.

So me and my husband came here for a get away from the children. We where not disappointed. We arrived and as our room was ready they let us check in early. And I have never seen a place so clean and with such helpful staff. The room was clean and comfortable, what more could you ask for? We ended up eating here for dinner and the chef's knew what they where doing. So that was lovely. But the thing that made it for us was how happy and helpful every single staff member was. Would highly recommend and I am sure we will be back

Ate here on a very quiet Sunday night in March, and liked the decor & ambience. We ate in the restaurant area, but the bar area was also very pleasant & also dog friendly. Particularly wanted to praise the food. Although we only had mains, they were superb, both the salmon & burger meals tasting fresh & thoughtfully put together, and very reasonably priced. Would recommend.

My second visit to this restaurant. The service here is really exceptional, efficient and friendly even when you are only having a quick lunch. My friend has certain dietary requirements which they dealt with very effectively, coming back twice to aid communication between her and the chef. The food is freshly cooked and tasty. They also serve local real ales. Highly recommended, so just go!

We were lucky enough to get the last table on the night and ate in the bar. Lovely happy vibe even early in the evening. We didn’t have a bad course and that is exactly what our B and B host had said about the place. The best endorsement was the fact that he arrived later that same evening to eat with his family! We came back the next day for the Sunday roast at 4 and the place was still buzzing. Definitely a keeper!

Lovely pub/restaurant with an extensive - but accessible - menu. Excellent food - well cooked. Friendly staff. Comfortable and warm. Recommended!

Called in on a Monday evening for a drink before dining elsewhere. Nice atmosphere, roaring fire, and very clean. However bizarre choice of ales. There were 4 beer pumps in use, serving 3.6%, two different 3.7%s, and a 4.5%. No mid range. This seems very odd, as if no thought had been given to it. The evening menu was as one would expect, with many pub favourites, but looked a little pricy compared with other outlets in the village.

It is a lovely atmosphere with parking right outside. The menu has an array of items from fish to meat to burgers and even children's meals (if you ask). The restrooms are very narrow and the bar is open so you can speak to the bartender or even chat with a friend. The food was delicious and portions are quite large depending on what you purchase.

Stopped here for lunch, great barman, very helpful indeed. The meals were very good and the service was excellent. Would stop here again if ever back in this part of Suffolk.

We were staying at the Crown.The meals are the best.I had the Sea Bass,which was the best i have ever tasted.My husband had the steak,which he said was very good.

A last minute spur of the moment trip to Suffolk. We booked The Crown Inn in Long Medford. The room was spacious and clean, nicely decorated and cosy. The staff were really warm and welcoming.

Spent the night in a very pleasant room with a good bathroom and shower. Very comfortable and quiet, despite being a pub. Breakfast menu was good, including salmon with scrambled eggs. Staff extremely friendly and helpful with good local knowledge.

Eleven of us met at The Crown on Friday 7th December, for our badminton group Christmas meal. I had never been before although I live in the area. I arrived first and was made to feel very welcome. Great menu, plenty of choice. I had the pan fried liver, which was beautifully cooked and delicious. I was told that the Steak Pie was gorgeous, as was the Pork Belly, Ham, Egg and Chips, & Fish& Chips. Whatever else was ordered went down well at the other end of the table. Great service by very cheerful, efficient and friendly staff. Desserts were delicious too. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and I will definitely recommend and visit again. Thank you.

We had been seeing the local church (fantastic, a "must visit") and wandered down Long Melfords very pleasant main street and chanced upon this hotel. Very warm welcome, excellent lunch with great service, and good value for money

A great place to eat, open fire, great atmosphere and very friendly Would recommend for any occasion.

The Crown itself is very pleasant and the staff were very polite and helpful. The food selection was good and what you might expect from a nice Inn. This included vegetarian options. The restaurant had a nice feel to it and a good vegetarian lunch was had.

We went for lunch as a party of four. The food was fine - soup and sandwiches.

The GF and I came here for a Sunday Lunch and the following week a meal at Saturday lunch time. The roast remains fantastic and the good news is that the standard menu is equally as excellent. The Crown Burger and Fish and Chips were superb quality. Staff are friendly, but almost nervous some times which they shouldn't be

We had lunch and dinner here on the 22/10/18. I had a sirloin steak sandwich and my wife had salmon and cream cheese one. Best sandwich I have ever eaten!!! For dinner I had steak pie with chips and my wife sea bass. Could not fault it, excellent. Our compliments to the chef!!! Although it was a Monday the restaurant and bar area were full up with people eating. The service was excellent and staff were very busy. A great place to eat out!!!

We was staying here for a family birthday. Had a lovely time and the food was great, all the staff are so lovely! The man that served us in the even was great, the lady who served breakfast on the Saturday and the young guy on the Sunday do an amazing job. Will definitely be returning for another stay.

I visited here with friends for dinner. On arrival I informed them of my dietary intolerances and was informed there was no special menu but as they cook fresh they could adapt my food. On ordering my food I had to change my mind three times as the meal I ordered could not be adapted so I opted for the steak meal. This was accompanied with chips mushrooms onion rings and tomatoes. The plate was served with only steak chips and tomatoes. I queried this as I had not been informed on ordering I could not have the mushrooms or onion rings, but was then informed they could not offer them to me as butter was used to cook both foods. It is obviously not cooked fresh as otherwise mushrooms could very easily and speedily be cooked. The starters and desserts literally had no dairy free option on the menu but they did give me one option for each.

Lovely ambience. The breakfast for residents is as good as they come. Really fresh ingredients and properly cooked.We would stay again just for the all English.

Great welcome. Friendly place. We visit a lot! John is most friendly and we received some great advice about poaching the perfect egg! We have never had a bad meal in The Crown in the 12 years we have lived in the village and the steak and ale pie is fab. From Paul & Clare.
