Old Pines, Spean Bridge was a charming, quiet retreat. On arrival, a pygmy goat basked in the sun on top of a picnic table, outside of the dining room. Wandering goats and geese provided comic elements. A spectacular view of Ben Nivis and the surrounding moors filled the floor to ceiling dining windows. 5 course dinners, generous Scottish breakfasts and comfy beds provided the perfect decompression from a hectic schedule. Across the lane and over the style, a walk through the moors offered surprises with wandering sheep, lively river waters and an unexpected view of an old stone viaduct destroyed in the clearance disputes. Emerging near Spean Bridge village we walked to the Commando Memorial and looped back on the moor trail to the Old Pines. A lovely, slow paced retreat.

We stayed there for one night. Very cost with goats and geese. There was only a 5 course menu for 60. But very good, and worth the price. The owner was very kind, and transported us back to the great Glen Way. We would go there again.

We booked dinner at Old Pines on our hike on the Great Glen Way. The inventive food combinations and beautiful, relaxing venue made this one of the top dinners on our trip, including some excellent dinners in London. Highest recommendation for Old Pines! Get there before Michelin finds them.

Visited the Modern designed highland getaway for evening dinner and wow from being greeted on arrival to being seated prior to being placed at the table the service was impeccable well done to all. The starters and main were up there with fine dining at a reasonable price. The views were outstanding and you could still see snow in places. For an out of the way experience its a must do. Next time we are up we will book a room too.

Outstanding menu selection, great service and at a very reasonable price. Relaxing cocktail, diner, desert and coffee in the hotel dining room. Catch of the day fish was outstanding. They also offered chicken, lamb and/or pasta with vegetables. Breakfast was continental and/or full fare with eggs, meat and potatoes. Great black coffee that was not watered down.

Arrived at another local establishment but hadn't booked and they were full. This was 2nd on the local TA list - so rang to check and they were able to fit us in.Establishment is in absolutely gorgeous surroundings with fantastic views. Pulled up and the owner was at the door waiting for us knowing that we had just rung. Took our coats and sat in the comfy lounge area for our drinks order. Drinks arrived (lovely cocktails!!! Not a massive, but a good range of more unusual whiskies) with a bowl of fresh sweet potato crisps and olives.Food order was taken and we continued to enjoy our drinks on the comfy sofas. We were transferred to our table when our food was ready. The table was at the front of a large window area with gorgeous views over the Nevis'.Food was lovely. Well presented and cooked beautifully. Taste was not overcomplicated allowing for the natural taste of the good quality ingredients to shine through. I had the mackerel starter and lamb main, my partner had the crab and pork. All were thoroughly delicious. Finished off with a peach and almond tart, which was equally as lovely, but probably not really needed! No idea why this place isn't fully booked - will definitely go back!

We have returned once again to Old Pines, being one of our favourite places to visit. Imogen and Ken go out their way to make your stay unforgettable. The service you get is second to none. Rooms very comfortable and food is excellent. From the minute you arrive here you instantly feel relaxed. The surrounding area is so pretty and eating dinner whilst looking out towards the beautiful sight of Ben Nevis is an added bonus. Will always return to this place. We have just celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary here with 30 friends and had the most memorable time. Thanks to Ken and Imogen for making this occasion so very special.

When we entered the restaurant, we were escorted into one of several rooms that reminded me of a living room with couches and a coffee table. The server brought us a wonderful hors d’oeuvre and took our drink order. We sat on the comfy couch, noshing and sipping, until the server came to take our dinner order. When the dinners were close to ready, they escorted us to our table that had eye-popping views. Frankly, I figured we’d have this kind of restaurant in the bigger cities but certainly not in the little hamlet of Spean Bridge. I was wrong. It was a memorable meal, made even better by the excellent service and the presence of the owner, Ken, who was both gracious and charming. At the end of our meal, Ken drove us back to the B&B and dropped us off. I was amazed. It was a perfect meal at the end of a day walking the Great Glen Way, and we were both very grateful for the kindness of everyone at the restaurant, the graciousness of the owner, and the high quality of our meal.

Having spent the holiday weekend in a cabin cruiser on the caledonian canal we spent our last night in the restaurant at the Old Pines. Having arrived early we had a pre dinner drink in a very comfortable residents lounge where we were able to look over the menus. We all chose different main courses and none of us were disappointed with what we ordered. The owner even gave us a lift back to our boat at the end of our evening. If you find yourself on the pontoon at Garelochy, get yourself along to the Old Pines.

If you are staying in Spean Bridge then this restaurant offers a slightly more up-market dining experience in a lovely locale. Both service and quality were of a high standard, without being stuffy in any way and at reasonable prices. The restaurant is a 10 - 15 minute walk from the centre of Spean Bridge, located next to the Commando Memorial. Highly recommended.

Spent two nights at Old Pine Hotel and had dinner there both nights. Excellent food, drinks and service. For starters we can recommend the crab salad, scallops and mussels, all were delicious and large portions. For mains the venison, pork and lamb were also excellent. Tea the first night was more than our party of 7 adults and 3 children could eat. The children enjoyed the goats out back, stay away from the geese. I was out of the way, booked by our tour operator, but well worth the extra time to get to Ft. Williams. I would recommend both the restaurant and hotel to anyone visiting the Ft. Williams area.

After stopping off briefly to view The Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge we noticed sign advertising teas, lunches, etc at The Old Pines just 400 yards further down the lane from the memorial. What a beautiful hotel in a beautiful spot! Food and service were excellent, and views back across towards Ben Nevis are stunning. Venison burger was delicious and country chips were dry and crispy - just perfect. My wife had a ham and mustard toastie which she said was superb, try the Nevis Rock Shandy to accompany. A lovely unhurried ambience and cosy seating areas made this a perfect stop - if the hotel is as good as the restaurant then it's not to be missed.

My girlfriend and I were staying in Spean Bridge for a few days enjoying hill walking and cycling, and were absolutely knackered after a long day in the hills. Rather than cook a meal we decided to head to one of the local restaurants and after discussion settled on Old Pines. It's located about a mile from where we stayed in Spean Bridge which we decided to walk. On arrival we waited in a lounge area with a drink while we decided what to eat and it was a hard choice lots of great options on the menu. Once decided we had some time to chat and enjoy our drinks then were shown to the table with our selected wine ready and our starters were brought out about 2 minutes after. The food was scrumptious, quality through and through. The backdrop and atmosphere only added to what was a fantastic evening. We finished up quite late and having walked the mile out to the restaurant we were even given a lift back to our accommodation. I could not have asked for more. If you are in Spean Bridge I think is well worth a visit.

We had an absolutely delicious dinner (leek and pea risotto) at Old Pines. They've got a separate page for vegetarian dishes in their menu, which was surprising for such a small restaurant. When we came in, we were seated in a comfy lounge area and offered fried sweet potato strips (something we Americans had never had, but which were addictively delicious) and olives to have with drinks. We placed our orders and then stayed in the lounge until just before our food was ready to be served. Apparently, this is fairly standard practice in Europe, but it was new - and enjoyable - to us.The service was lovely and the view from the restaurant's dining room is beautiful: the restaurant itself is set in a wooded area with a little brook and a clear view from its picture windows out to the nearby mountains. Order tea or coffee after your dinner so you can get the complimentary and absolutely scrumptious handmade truffles.Terrific experience all around.

I ordered scallops - terrible, presentation great and taste simply unappetizing! my partner ordered fish with peppers - it was edible. We ate because after the whole day on the nc500 route we were hungry but if there was any food stall nearby I would have left Peets restaurant.
