What a delightful hotel! Quiet, comfortable, quirky and above all the staff were without exception brilliant! We sat on the terrace for a pre dinner drink Looking at restful views and very busy rabbits on the hotel lawn! Dinner was delicious, fresh, tasty and well presented. The restaurant staff both at dinner and breakfast couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Our room was definitely “ quirky”, clean and spacious with lovely views over the lawns and fields. We had a peaceful night’s sleep and would recommend a visit to Flitwick Manor to anyone.

The afternoon tea was wonderful and marked the event perfectly. A tranquil setting overlooking the grounds in a sunny aspect with the manor as a backdrop! Mother in law’s 90th birthday observed with the whole family and found the attentive service of staff truly inviting . Lovely cakes, sandwiches and in my case ,earl grey tea, were a welcome treat on this special occasion. Thanks all.

Horrendous experience. Went for afternoon tea only to discover unimaginative, bland sandwiches and stale, unappetising ‘cakes’. My daughter was bored and went outside to explore the grounds, where she fell 12 feet onto concrete, from an arch with no fencing or warning signs. No ambulance was called and she was given a tea towel and two ice cubes for her injury. We then spent the remainder of the day and most of the night in A&E, where she was diagnosed with two broken feet. The waitress then had the nerve to complain to my friend that I didn’t leave a tip!

We visited on Saturday for a 60th Birthday lunch. The staff were wonderful and could not do enough for our party. We had my 10 week old Grandaughter and nothing was too much trouble. The menu was perfect not too much choice but something for everyone. We all had 3 courses.... compliments to the Chef.... we all thoroughly enjoyed the food and super friendly service. We will return...afternoon tea looks tempting. Thank you to the Chef for the lovely 60th Birthday plate...The lady that looked after us asked if it was special occasion...I mentioned its was my husbands 60th and she arranged the beautiful plate with the chef. 😀

Evening meal was taken twice on successive days and only the soup was changed on the second day's menu. This was more disappointing as there wasn't a large choice anyway. Hot breakfast was as expected but the buffet was laid out the night before, including the fresh fruit in an open dish!!!

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at Flitwick manor today as a team of six for our work Christmas get together. Service was excellent, food scrummy, beautifully made sandwiches with great fillings, tea topped up and offered more food. There was the option of mulled wine, but we were all driving. Price was very good too. I've never been to Flitwick manor before. The views and house are lovely. Thourghly recommend. Thank you

I must admit, it might seem a bit much to give 5 stars just for a steak, but that's how good the steak was! Excellent piece of meat, cooked to perfection. I had mine blue, the wife medium rare and the ched was spot on with both. No gristle or tough bits. Starters and desserts were also excellent, and the waitress spot on as well. Very impressed by the while thing.

Afternoon tea was very pleasant, though a little stingey on the amount of sandwiches, plenty of refills of tea and cakes and scones delicious. Service was good and the waitress very helpful. Lovely setting but felt a little tired inside and unfortunately they were painting somewhere and there was a strong smell of gloss paint which spoiled the overall experience. The ladies toilets needed updating and one of the two cubicles was out of order. Have been to several different venues for afternoon tea and although it was far from bad I have definitely had better. There is room for improvement but overall enjoyed our afternoon.

We were taken by the waitrress to our table. For starters I had the salmon tian and my husband had a chicken terraine. Both were beautifully served and delicious. For our main course we had stead which was cooked exactly to our order. Our coffee was served back in the bar - offered a choice! Place is lovely and old which is to my taste. Staff were brilliant and I was so pleased not to be addressed as "Guys" which is my pet hate in restaurants! Will definately be going back again.

6 people booked in for dinner tonight 23.11.19. One guest made it clear no garlic on anything. Starter came with garlic toast. Waitress then realised and came and TOOK THE GARLIC TOAST OFF WITH HER HANDS FROM THE DISH AT THE TABLE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. Shocking. Main dish then came for same guest with garlic. When we had almost finished main meals, 2 dishes of chips arrived, we did not order chips. When the bill arrived we complained about the removal of the garlic toast, the garlic on the main dish and the fact that we did not order chips and they arrived near the end of the meal and then appeared on the bill. Would not go again. Would not recommend. Although my steak was nice, it came with a few potatoes and broccoli and no sauce of any kind so dish was very dry. Disappointed as we brought 4 people as a special treat. No wonder restaurant is half empty.

Many years ago, I lived in Flitwick for some years and always wanted to go to the local Manor but at the time couldn't afford it.Now at last, that wish has been granted and I only wish we'd made the effort earlier.Proper table linen including crisp white serviettes greeted us as we were shown to our table which had a lovely view of the gardens including a magnificent Cedar Tree .The menu catered for a variety of tastes without being spoilt for choice and we both ate well. The arrival of the food was timely and it was all beautifully presented. The portions were sensible sizes but as we are moderate eaters, we both found a starter and main were sufficient. My only criticism would be that the waiting staff were a little slow in clearing the table after the main course.Food and wine for two in lovely surroundings with very pleasant staff for less than £100 was an evening to be repeated in the not too distant future.

Alas, that's where the compliments end. Although the restaurant was quiet when I visited, service was pretty slow. The starters were beautifully presented but .... tasteless. The main (lamb) was nice enough but the portion was so very small. I had a chocolate dessert which, despite looking pretty, once again was not very nice. Therefore, I was very disappointed overall and will not be eating here again, despite the 2 AA Rosettes.

This was a small bleak room, not too clean, with not even a vase of flowers to decorate it. There were not enough chairs for the booked group when we went there. Had to wait some time for a waitress, then for the actual tea. The tea was made with tea bags and was weak. I asked for stronger, but it wasn't much better. All the cups and saucers were unmatched, not even all of china! Sandwiches were OK, but the cakes were sparse - we were told there was one for each of us for some items. Very little service. The venue is delightful, set in woodland at the end of a sweeping drive. A group of us were having afternoon tea in a lovely wood panelled room. The venue was very busy and short staffed. It was a tall order to serve thirteen people with tea and some were left without their own teapot as there was "a teapot shortage". There must have been a cake stand shortage too as the food was brought out on wood and plastic boards rather than cake stands. This spoiled the appearance somewhat. Individual orders, previously placed, were not remembered so had to be ordered again and the person who required vegetarian sandwiches was expected to pick those from amongst the meat ones on the boards. The sandwiches were a little sparse with three each. The scones were absolutely delicious. The cakes were ok. One of our party chose from the lounge menu and this tasted very good. We had a lovely afternoon, and the food was mainly good. It was the those extra special touches that you expect from an afternoon tea that were less than expected.

Our dinner was the best we have had in a long time. Not only was the food of high quality and beautifully presented, the service was excellent too! The fish was delicious. I had scallops, followed by hake. Portions were generous and yet presented in a clean contemporary way. The actual restaurant has relaxing lighting and the tables are well spaced out to allow a truly calm experience. The crisp white table cloths and the room itself was spotless and whilst the room has an air of formality and of being a treat, the atmosphere is totally relaxed. Dinners definitely come first and nothing is too much trouble. The lady who served us, Diane, was lovely and she knew all about the food; nothing was too much trouble. Diane has been with the hotel for a good 13 years I think. The lovely hot bread was also great. For dessert, I had a Yorkshire rhubarb trio consisting of a parfait, ginger macaroon and poached ginger! It was delicious. I was actually full after the generous dinner and an extra helping of bread but I just could not resist the dessert as I had seen another dinner eating it and commenting on how wonderful it was. He was right!!!! The fudge with coffee was wonderful too. Overall our dinning experience of the Flitwick was a combination of lovely surroundings, great food and a service which we don't think could be beaten. We eat out a lot to include Michelin restaurants and we just felt the honesty of venue, quality of food and genuine service beats previous experiences. This was absolutely fine, we just felt like we couldn't talk very loudly as the other group wernt talking very much. Once they left we had the room to ourselves so that was nice! The afternoon tea itself was really lovely, loads and loads of cakes, but we would have enjoyed a few more sandwiches or savoury items! I had 1 cubic centimetre of parsnip and a small spoon of mash - that was my vegetables. The people who had roast beef - the beef was mostly ok but virtually no vegetables - about a tenth of a normal portion of broccoli. They were trying to fill us up with a huge Yorkshire pudding! My cheese and biscuits was boring - 5 tiny biscuits and average cheese. My husband couldn't reach all his chocolate mousse because it was in a half full sundae glass with a desert spoon. Very disappointing meal.

The actual house and grounds are lovely; and the room we had our afternoon tea in was also beautiful. However for reasons known only to the owners, they have made no concession for disabled, so we had to park a long way from the reception, which meant pushing my mother in her wheelchair across a long uneven carpark. When we were eventually greeted in reception we were told that in order to reach the room we were to have our afternoon tea in, we would have to descend down a set of stairs; so not a great start.Once seated our drinks order was quickly taken, and duly arrived within no time, but that’s where the efficiency ended – we waited an absolute eternity for our food to arrive, and to be honest it wasn’t worth the wait, mediocre at best, with little imagination in either content or presentation. I had to physically go and find someone to take orders for more tea/coffee, which was a task in itself, as the lower level of the house appeared to be deserted of staff. All in all not a great experience, and a hefty bill to boot, although we were (eventually) offered a free drink as compensation for the poor service. To cap it all off, on my way out I discretely told the lady manager at reception that the men’s loo was in rather a poor state and needed some attention, she replied “I wouldn’t know, I don’t use it” … which I think says it all about the general attitude of the place.

Had dinner whilst staying at the hotel and was most definitely a meal to remember. I chose the whipped goats cheese to start, pork belly & cheek for main and tiramisu for dessert. If being incredibly picky, I'd prefer a stronger coffee flavour in the latter, but was still very enjoyable. The nice extra touches made is special, including the champagne sorbet and complimentary starter salad and service was very attentive. Good choice of wines also, so something for everyone. I'd most definitely return.

The first night the meal was a bit of a disappointment the soup was average, but the small loaf that came with it was very good, the main was a disaster tried to serve a mousse with a hot broth the mousse dissolved, the custard tart dessert was excellent. The second night's meal was far more enjoyable with the main a better dish altogether.

We had a really good meal. The restaurant is reminiscent of days gone by but I like that. Unfortunately the service was so slow. It took ages to get the wine, the rolls, the first course etc: we both had the same starter - pigeon breast and it was cooked beautifully, divine! But then that agonising wait for the next course which gets pretty bad as you see your bottle of wine gradually becoming empty (come on, we've all been there). I had succulent pork done two ways, both slowly roasted, one wrapped in bacon. My husband had duck and that too was excellent. I had a dessert of vanilla custard which was superb and just right in amount and taste. If only the service had been a wee bit more attentive as we did have to call across the room (when waiting to order dessert) to alert the waitress that we were still in the land of the living. She was charming however. I do feel that some of the staff seem to be perhaps on training exercises and hope for much better if and when we return. Unfailingly though, each and every member of staff were charming. We would certainly return to the restaurant because the food was excellent and we also like the hotel..

Our friends were staying at the hotel overnight, and invited us to join them for dinner (a birthday celebration, actually). We were with them when they checked in and the hotel receptionist (owner, senior staff member?) couldn't have been nicer or more professional. She even brought up extra cups and home-made biscuits to the room, so we could have a cup of tea with them. The room itself was lovely. We had reserved a table in the restaurant at least a week in advance for dinner at 7.30. We had a pleasant drink in the lounge before we were taken to our table. Apart from the four of us, the restaurant was empty (it was a Tuesday). The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, but for many of the dishes it was sadly style over substance. I chose the heritage tomato salad to start with. The tomatoes must have come straight out of the fridge so for me the whole purpose of the dish was ruined. I chose a seafood 'special' (regrettably I can no longer remember the actual name of the dish): the fillet of bream (I think) on the top of the dish was very good, but the squid underneath, cool at best and rubbery. On the very top, was a potato nest - very artistic and could have been stunning, but again this was cold and could only have been pulled out of a premade batch. The birthday boy chose a steak: his words "the steak at your house last night was so much better!" Whilst I appreciate the compliment, and I'm sure it must be hard to plan for an empty restaurant on a damp Tuesday, if you have a reservation made well in advance, and a good reputation to maintain, the quality of the dishes, and therefore the whole experience, was just not good enough. Side note: the two girls who were waitressing (both in the lounge and the restaurant) were young but good. One was obviously a trainee, but the two together were more than acceptable. Would I recommend the hotel to others? To stay, yes; to eat - maybe on a Friday or Saturday - but not for something special.

We revisited Flitwick Manor for a lunch time treat as it was my birthday. We just love driving up the avenue of trees to the main entrance and it sets the trend for our visit. The welcome is always warm and the pre-meal drinks are in the comfortable lounge. There were three in our party and we all had something different. All the food was excellent and the service was first class.I was returning to Flitwick Manor, where three years ago we so enjoyed my 60th birthday celebrations, where 31 people filled the main room and have such fond memories of the evening. Remember we stayed the night and the room was spectacular, with breakfast being wonderful. Think I will have to come up with an excuse to do it all over again !

Traveled to Bedfordshire to visit some friends in the area as me and my husband lived here 10 years ago and thought it was a great time to eat the food of Steve Barringer as I've eaten his food when at the Bedford restaurant St.Helena and was the best food I've ever eaten so going to Flitwick Manor I was super excited ,so when we arrived I looked at the menu and it seemed to be not of the style I expect from him so I asked a young boy called Alex who was my waiter for the evening who informed me he was here so we carried on to order I had a simple smoked salmon and my husband had a egg starter both arrived and looked disgusting and dull nothing we would of expect of his food then are steak arrived bland over cooked and just tasteless so we carried on then ordered desert we both had this raspberry stack with shortbread and cream something out of the 1980s novel cuisine something I believe a child could prepare like all the courses didn't have any skill of presentation was just poor pub grub only to later ask the boy Alex again are you sure Chef Steve Barringer is here he then turned round and said no he's left to open up his own restaurant and to continue to say he left them in the lurch which I found very unprofessional from the waiter !so we decided to pay and leave so very disappointed I can't wait for Steve to get back in the kitchen somewhere because this was bad bad food shame on you Flitwick because a lovely hotel!!!

We had a family afternoon tea here on Sunday afternoon. We were very impressed. I asked if they had any scones without raisins. 10 minutes later 2 freshly baked scones were produced! The young girls serving us were lovely. The rooms are quite small so it's not very noisy or busy. Really lovely. Thank you Fkitwick manor

Stayed here as a party of 4 adults for a long weekend break and it was excellent all the way through. There are beautiful grounds in which to just sit back and relax whilst watching the wildlife, and enjoying a drink - or two !!. Its a great way to start a weekend break. The service is excellent and the staff are very attentive - even if you are sitting outside. The food is beautifully cooked and presented and the menu is definitely creative - but then the chef is a Masterchef Winner. We met him and had a chat with him and he is really passionate about his dishes and getting them right. (and we remembered him from the TV show !!). He does a fish & chicken dish - yes, on the same plate - sounds strange, but it works. I loved it.The rooms are nice and clean and there are plenty of staff around to help you. Although when we returned on Saturday at 4pm our rooms hadn't been cleaned yet which we thought was a bit strange - but a quick word with the manager and the staff were in both rooms within 5 minutes.I only have one negative comment and that is the drinks are really expensive. I stay away a lot and am used to "hotel prices" but these did surprise me.Overall, a really nice place to stay that's very quiet and peaceful with excellent food and service.

We tried to book an Afternoon Tea in January but they were fully booked for the next few weeks, so we settled for Saturday 14th March. We were shown to table where there was a menu & a box with a selection of teas, menu stated £17.95 for the Afternoon Tea. We had our tea, sandwiches & cakes which were nice. When we got the Bill it stated £50, which was £14 more than expected, so we questioned it & was informed that it was because it was Mothers Day Weekend even though it was a Saturday. I told them that we were not made aware of this when we booked & it stated the price in menu, so they changed the Bill to £35.90. Due to this it left a bad taste that they could add £7 per person to price & cash in on a Special Occasion, to me this is being greedy. We do not normally write negative reviews but on this occasion we felt that we were being cheated. Will not be returning.

Delightful hotel with very helpful, friendly and courteous staff. We had the superior master room with a big 4 poster bed and a huge bathroom, complete with kissing baths and sauna! We wished we'd been able to stay for a few more days. The evening meal was of the nouvelle cuisine type, not our favourite but even so, the lamb was absolutely delicious and after 3 courses we found that we were not still hungry as has been the case in other reataurants which serve this type of food. Breakfast was excellent, all freshly cooked and beautifully presented by a smiling waitress. We will definitely stay here again.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel on a Saturday night (had a wonderful stay) and had the 3 course meal in the restaurant. Although it was slightly more expensive than we would have liked to pay (£40 for three courses), we could not fault it. Both the service and the food was excellent. I had a wonderful pig cheek starter, lamb (with fennel, mint and feta) dish for mains and a coconut rice pudding dish for dessert. My partner had chicken and eel confit, then beef with ox cheek. I think the room in which we ate would benefit from a re-refurbishment to bring the dining room up to the standard of the food and quality of service. Overall, we felt that the food was very creative and something a little different, and certainly worth the money. Although the pictures look like the portions are small, I was certainly nicely full after two courses (just couldn't resist a dessert!)

...especially as it was a special offer through Amazon (only £13pp including a glass of bubbly!). We went on Saturday (weekend after Christmas) as I thought it would be a nice gift to my parents. We were very warmly met and shown to a table in the lounge, already set for us. We were then served tea with a selection of sandwiches, cakes and yummy scones with cream and jam. We weren't rushed and a couple of times we were asked if everything was ok and whether we required more tea etc. When we first sat down we were asked when we wanted to have the Champagne and said after we'd finished eating so when they cleared the table they brought the glasses of Champagne to us without any prompting. We had no complaints and would definitely do it again and have recommended it to our friends, should there be another offer.

We had never visited Flitwick Manor despite living nearby for many years. So we were looking forward to it very much as we had heard if it's very high reputation. We went today for afternoon tea. The tea itself was good, but not outstanding. However the most disappointing aspect was the ambience and the service. No friendly greeting on arrival. We received a somewhat curt and uncaring welcome when we did find someone. No one explained the procedures or the menu. The room was cold and when we commented a radiator was turned on. An icy blast came through the open door so we asked that it be closed but it was then was reopened without asking if we were comfortable. The visit was an opportunity missed by the hotel to make the guest feel welcomed and at ease. The staff service at all levels was disinterested unimpressive and untrained. Staff were carrying plates from a dining area without cleaning them off. They did not socially interact with the guests to ensure that the guests were getting the best from their visit. We had to ask for more tea and cream-they did not check whether we had all we needed or come back regularly to ask.So all in all a somewhat disappointing performance by such a reputable hotel. We could have done with a lot more smiles all round!! A good deal of staff training needs to be done to make the hotel live up to its reputation. It certainly disappointed us.

We pre-booked a full afternoon tea. The receptionist was lovely and took our coats on a cold miserable Sunday afternoon. The place was warm and cosy. The nicely furnished period room in which we had tea was comfortably warm.We were offered plenty of choice in teas/coffee's. Our tea arrived 15 minutes before the sandwiches and cakes. Our server was lovely and knowledgeable about the product. Our only challenge was that we were not given or offered hot water to top up our pots and one of my party was a coffee drinker but received only one cup of coffeeThe cakes not eaten were wrapped for us to take homeWe really enjoyed our slow-paced tea and will go again

A very welcoming experience thanks to the excellent heritage centre guides who knew their stuff and pointed us in the right direction. The Centre is a must visit not just for aged train spotters but for every one. The line has a new future with East West Rail which needs all our support to get locals back on trains. Great coffee and cake made the day.

It started well with a good selection on the menu. When we came to order our breakfast sandwiches my friend asked how much it would be to add an egg to her bacon sandwich, at which point the waitress advised that the prices on the menu had increased so weren't correct & could only say they had gone up by about 50p. On asking for a sparkling water she advised that had also gone up by 20p maybe 30p, these increases were due to the cost of living increase. When we questioned why the menus hadn't been updated she advised there were new owners & it hadn't been done yet but that there was a sign on the wall inside the shop advising of the price increase, we were sat outside but to be honest anyone entering the shop wouldn't have seen it as it would have been behind them. She then brought out the A4 sign. She also tried to find an updated menu which she couldn't find. Firstly I am sure this must be illegal to advertise one price & charge another & secondly a hand written note could have been added to the menu or a copy of the price increase attached to the menu which everyone would have seen. Maybe the new owners should hold fire on the price increase until new menus are available as it may save their reputation. The breakfast sandwiches were very tasty, however the 'glass' that accompanied the sparkling water was in fact a jar with a thread for a screw top. Some might call it funky but not to everyone's taste. Needless to say it wasn't used. There are standards which have to be met & the clear advertising of correct pricing is one of them. We are all effected by the cost of living crisis & on occasions when we do our bit to support local businesses we might be watching the pennies too.
