Restaurant at Gainsborough House Hotel in Wyre Forest

Recently went to a Christmas party style lunch with entertainment. Lots of coach parties and people ready to have a good time. Unfortunately the food was cheap just about warm and tasteless, considering everyone had paid £40 plus. Most of these folk were senior citizens who were being ripped off! Covid protocol was not being adhered to. Cramped tables and no ventilation. Rude Barman who thought he was doing everyone a favour by choosing to serve. Bad attitude. Only saving grace was the young man doing the entertainment. He was brilliant. Won’t be going again and definitely do not recommend!!

Sunday brunch was delicious but the staff were busy preparing for the next meal made us feel uncomfortable and in the way. Breakfast was the same had to ask for bread for toast most items on the bar were in short supply and being packed away, we were not late for breakfast, but felt we were in their way. The staff were friendly and happily provided us with what we asked. Just felt in the way.

We found the food experience to be fantastic. Excellent quality produce. Generous portions and everything at just the right temperature. Staff deferential and friendly. We really enjoyed the whole experience.

Good choice of meals and great service with a smile. Would be happy to come back again when we are visiting.

We stayed here after my daughter bought us a BuyaGift voucher with Overnight stay and 3 coarse dinner for two. For starters my wife had the soup of the day and I had the King prawn skewers which we both really enjoyed. For our mains my wife had the Gainsborough Burger, which came with thick chips salad and relish, I had the 10oz Gammon Steak, with thick cut chips, peas and two eggs. For dessert I had Coconut Panna Cotta, which was very good, my wife had the White Chocolate Ceme Brûlée which she said was the best she has ever had. The food arrived quickly and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

excellent food and service lots of choice, very relaxed atmosphere and spotlessly clean. we went for easter lunch you could have beef and turkey, brocoli. cabbage, carrots, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets, stuffing and yourkshire puddings, all piping hot defo reccomend

We are a group of four ladies travelling together. On arrival we were given a very warm welcome and, more importantly, a speedy check in. Our room was quite large and spotlessly clean. We had a lovely big television. The bathroom was bright with a very efficient shower. We an open plan wardrobe and drawer space which worked well for us and bedside unit each, whuch is better than just the one in the middle. The food at the Gainsborough House Hotel was excellent. Full marks to the Chefs. There was plenty of choice for cooked breakfast and delicious pastries. There was a choice of starters for the evening meal and they were all very nice .There was always a vegetarian option in the evening which included a choice of several different vegetables that were all well cooked. Every evening there was a different choice of meat. Over the four nights we had pork, turkey, beef and gammon. All the joints were moist and cooked to perfection. Every meal was piping hot. The desserts were large and delicious!, We could not fault the food. All the Staff at the Hotel were polite and helpful. They could not have been better. We would definitely stay there again.

A lovely four course meal, carvery, a choice of starters, roast beef or pork to choose from the carvery, the roast potatoes were to die for, yummy 😋, a choice of desserts or cheese board, coffee or tea. All very tasty, full of flavour. All mothers on our table were given a pot plant, which was a nice gesture. All for courses £24 each, very good value.

Family had a superb meal, first class service by Jade a new employee she attended too our every need from multiple rounds of drinks, to taking our meal order that included vegan meals. Too say she was wonderful is not enough, she made five of us welcome, it was a delightful way too celebrate our Mother's birthday. Jade kept us well topped up with drinks, she served the food well, cleaned,and checked up on us often. Two of our party had just arrived from Ohio and after the bill was paid Victor was asked for extra Gainsborough mints too be taken back to USA for nephew's and he was totally happy to help, he was also a nice staff member. Considering most of the staff were having a staff meal, and Jade was on her own most of the time we were there she deserves recognition, and for his professional bright, happy help Victor needs a shout out. On the strength of tonight's great service, tasty affordable food, lovely clean surroundings we as a family are planning to come again, and wish too recommend too our friends, family and others looking for great value for money and smashing atmosphere, come here. Pulled pork burger with proper chips was excellent! Only criticism is that there wasn't any real ale on draft!

8 of us were staying at the hotel and we had three course evening meal. The selection of food on the menu was exceptional and the quality of our meals was outstanding also The breakfast buffet again was really good.

We have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. The restaurant is a very pleasant room and you are not sitting on top of one another. There was a very good choice on the menu and when the food arrived it was well presented and delicious..The waiting staff were friendly, with lovely sense of humour. (Thank you Mandy and other lady ) we will return..

I had the pleasure of staying in the hotel and i must say the food and service that i got here was super i fancied a roast beef sarnie with loads of horseradish with just some salad and crisps its was lovely all the comments on the restaurant food were positive you often here the odd moan or groan but not here all good thank you guys

£16.95 for a sirloin steak you expect it to be of reasonable quality, i work very hard for my living,and expect value for money when paying for food, and especially when it,s an hotel.

Nice buffet, ask for eggs of your choice as opposed to the scrambled at the buffet. A good overall choice.

meal was lovely (sunday lunch) meat was really tender and roast potatoes to die for and my little one they did pasta and tomatoe and basil sauce which he loved

Do not waste your money on the restaurant prices here, do as the locals do, go out, buy you tea and just ask the bar staff to supply all the plates etc you need, quids in and a "up yours" to the hotel :-)

We were visiting the town to see family members so needed something local. First impressions were not good, the sound of loud music thumping away and a car park which was crowded close to the entrance. Having dropped off my passengers near the door I was able to find plenty of room at the far end of the car park about 100 yards away down the hill. The music was coming from one end of the hotel and when we reached the dining room the music was barely audible. We were greeted promptly and shown to a good sized table. There were few guests when we arrived and even when a business group came in from the bar next door the room was not crowded. The menu was reasonably varied, the sort you would get in a better pub. The starters were reasonable though the goats cheese breadcrumb shell was a bit hard and crispy. The main courses were fine- just pub food but well cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. With three courses, a bottle of wine and coffee the bill was £72 which I thought was reasonable.

Never rated the carvey st Gainsborough but we thought we would give it another go. Party of 13 a couple had starters took a while for them to arrive. Others went for the carvey portions of meat only to turkey,beef but to be far good size. But the problem was veg had to tell them no roasts no French beans no Yorkshire pudding so on!!!! To do a carvey surely veg is part of the deal....then over charged on bill. They soon put that right.we spent over £145.. Will not give them another go sorry ...

The food was well cooked and presented, but ingredients clearly cheap - a beautifully cooked tough steak is still a tough steak and disappointing for the price.

Starters were nice (smoked salmon salad and soup of the day)Mains were terrible! Hunters chicken was supposed to come with chicken breast and it came on the bone and was so dry that it felt like eating chalk! Chips were overly salted, not cooked in salt, it was added before being sent out. So much that my mouth burned. My partner had gammon and the egg was not cooked properly, a lot of the white was still goo! We told the waitress about this, and all that we got was the price of our double JD & cokes, taken down to singles. I would never go back and will be complaining further! Waste of money!!

this was the worst carvery we have every had. we had to stop off to eat and as we had never been before and passing so went in. the meal was a disgrace but leaving it a bit late we had to eat it. everything was overcooked,cold and nasty. l know we should have walked out but we were hungry and it was late. we did express comments on our way out but do realise if you e at something you have to pay. there were just 5 people eating so one should have known better. we felt really cheated and never again.

Considering the amount of people they had to cater for, the staff did an amazing job. The food served was hot tasty and plentiful. Breakfast was good too.

Good food really good service only had dinner there the choice was a little limited but quality was very good presentation excellent, as a chef myself I do look fire quality and I was not disappointed

The menu is pretty simple with a pretty standard offering, nothing to write home about. In general the food was OK and the staff fine though the restaurant was empty and I was the only customer!The wine list is pretty awful and there is very little choice on the beer front.

The deal we had included two courses , on both nights the food was excellent with a good choice to select from. Tip for the chef... Warm the plates up! Our only complaint was the food was served on cold plates, so went cold quickly.

Went with my husband and 12 year old son for Sunday lunch. Not busy at all. Chef carving was nice and friendly, however the 2 waitresses were unpleasant. Not a smile. Everything seemed too much trouble...didn't have to even take our order as you just go up and help yourself. Asked for the bill...."wait a sec" was the reply with a surly face. She wasn't serving anyone. Only 1 other table was occupied. Left after 1st course which was only average but that is not my complaint. You need to look at your staff, my 12 year old would have done a better job.

Evening menu varied but a bit limited in choice. Breakfast - ample selection although scrambled egg was a little lacking in taste.

There was nothing to dislike about the hotel. One of the best we have stayed in. Staff were excellent in all areas as well as a comfortable room with a superb efficient shower!!

We booked this restaurant for our anniversary as it was near to home and we had not been there before,2 course set meal £ 11.99 or 3 courses £14.99 on a Saturday evening seemed good to us.Nicely decorated with a chilled atmosphere the restaurant had around 14 diners when we arrived. The menu had around 7 starters and the same amount of main courses, My wife had deep fried Brie and i had fishcakes for starters both were well presented and delivered efficiently by the two young waitresses,who were attentive at all times asking if we needed more drinks, and was our meal ok, For mains I had a very nice rib eye steak and my wife had Pangasius ( Fish in a cream and spinach sauce) which she described as " stunning". I declined the sweet, as the steak meal was of generous size, my wife went for chocolate brownie of which she could only finish half. The restaurant was mostly empty by around 9.30pm ( I think most of the diners were hotel guests ) which is a shame as this is a real jewel in the crown, so much so that we have booked to take relatives again next week, With a bottle of wine at £ 16.99. and a couple of beers ( or 3 ) the bill came to £ 57. A really nice chilled out evening , with really nothing to fault it,

Die Karte ist nicht sehr umfangreich, bietet aber neben britischen Klassikern (verschiedene Steaks mit Chips und Erbsen) aber auch immer eine kleine Auswahl internationaler Gerichte.

The food here was excellent, although Nora had to return her Steak, as it was not cooked enough. . . . there was no argument, just abject apologies and the whole Main Course was replaced. . .2nd time lucky. . . . it was perfect!! The Service was superb everywhere in the Hotel, but especially in the Bar and the Restaurant!! Thank you..

After seeing the sign for the Friday night Indian buffet a number of times we decided to give it a try unfortunately, we were disappointed. The starters were ok although the chicken tikka had a strange artificial lime taste to it. The main courses were not good in our opinion. There was nothing wrong with them but for us they were more akin to chicken stew and the tanka dhal was like lentil soup. The naan bread over heated and crisp. However, this our opinion and i do know it is a popular buffet locally so they must be doing something right. On a different note the restaurant itself was very comfortable and the staff very attentive.

Bit disappointed as it was a special occasion....we had five adults and a very well behaved six year old and we were celebrating a 40th Birthday and felt like we would like to take close family for a Sunday Lunch at a nice well respected hotel restaurant.....something a bit special...Three of the party had travelled down from Liverpool for the occasion....the driver having never been to Kidderminster before....but we all managed to meet up without a problem.The restaurant was almost empty when we walked in and looked very bare and unwelcoming...Most of us had decided to have the three courses....first course...ok....then we were sent up to the carvary....but where was the vegetarian option that was on the menu...Oh we'd have to wait for that to be cooked...so two of us went for our carvary with the little boy, who had been travelling and was hungry by this time, and the other three waited for the veggie dish to be cooked...one came after at least ten minutes and the second five minutes later....the carvary person left who had politely waited for the others to receive theirs then went and stood and waited for someone to serve his....so their food was not as hot as it should be and the first three eaters had completed their food well before the other three had received theirs...not good enough....we had pre booked the table because of the circumstances and nothing was said about part of the menu being a problem....The place felt like a cafeteria with no ambience.....bit of a let down....

Took the old girl for dinner.........5 courses and a bottle of good wine for 2 for £60.!!Simplish fayre but for a meal of it's type.....never had better.Very good service despite having 200 folks for a sit down wedding meal.....if anyone can beat it....let me know.it is minimalist decor which is not my style but when I am with the old girl.....I only notice her,

My wife and I have had Sunday carvery a number of times now. We have been as a couple and also with a close friend. We have gone for an early lunch (12.30 to 13.00) most times. It starts to fill up later with family celebrations, other couples or small groups. The staff are friendly and attentive. We had one poor experience when we were the first to dine. The first couple of slices of beef were a bit grisly/fatty, put my wife completely off her meal. All other times food has been good and a wonderful selection of vegetables. Price is about average for most carvery restaurants but the Gainsborough venue is a much more cleaner and brighter venue to enjoy traditional Sunday roast.

This gets my worst of the year vote. This was to be our company party. Everyone was sat for seven thirty. 1st starters came out at 8.15. I had 3 small salmon terrine parcels similar to Iceland in pack of 60. Beef to follow 45 mins later with grey new potatoes and roasters on plate. Veg was put in a dish which was dry and very unappetising, carrots hadn't seen a bit of butter, boiled leeks and discoloured cauliflower. Cheese and biscuits to follow, served on wet plate with soggy biscuits. Coffee was like treacle. Never saw staff smile once. Expensive evening.

We have eaten here 5 times now........two big family meals and 3 ...'intimate' meals....Four were excellent and one was just O.K.For us........at the price......it compares very favourably with so many pubs nowadays but.................has more intimacy and service.The 2 and 3 course offers are very competetive................if the staff are having a good day you will love it......if they are not, you will still do as good as the average pub meal.We will go again....and think it very fare fayre.

Decided to try Friday night Indian Buffet at the Gainsborough with friends. We were made very welcome as soon as we set foot in the hotel door. . The staff could not have been more helpful ,pleasant and efficient . The Buffet was so good with loads of variety ,set out well and you could go up as many times as you wanted . Would recommend it and will be returning . A very pleasant experience

Tried "Indian style" buffet Friday - good value & wide choice. Meat choices very good but perhaps vegetable choice too wide - better to focus on fewer, better quality? A La Carte menu good value for multiple courses- a bit limited choice for some tastes but the "Chicken Bourguignon" was excellent! Excellent buffet breakfast choice and value. Will definitely dine there again.

The staff were welcoming and attentive without being obtrusive, the food was well cooked without excessive delays in being served also being reasonably priced we found the menu to cover all our needs and with a number of tables being occupied the ambiance was good

Service was attentive but rather slow.Menu took little account of the needs of dietary needs.DIning area quite nice but lacked atmosphere.I was probably unlucky in my food choices and hope others fare better.Staff very apologetic for my experience.Worth another try..

My brother and I dined here on my taste card. The meal from their expansive menu was excellent. The waitress was friendly and courteous, and the dining room was very smartly decorated. The breakfasts are also excellent and available to non residents. Well done we will be back again soon.

Review is for their Friday night Indian BuffetHaving, recently, been made aware of buffet, booked for early evening (told to book particularly if you want mid eve. slots) - Offering is approx. 5 starters and the same no. of mains to choose from - plus poppadoms, chutneys, rice, yogurt, plain nan bread etc. . Highlights for us were succulent chicken tikka and really light onion bhajis from the starters, from the mains it was lovely buttered chicken and an amazing vegetable jalfrezi. It is sold as all you can eat but for us it was being able to try a little of everything then perhaps an extra bit of one or two favourite items.For what is on offer it is absolute tops value wise! The ladies running/serving in the restaurant are attentive and friendly. The only reason we have not given it an immediate 5* rating is because there seemed to be an menu imbalance towards chicken items and one or two of the other items on offer did not hit the heights of our highlights. Expect to pay hotel prices for your drinks but with food value like this it evens out.We would def. recommend and will be returning again soon to enjoy once more and hopefully add that extra star!There are previous food reviews under the hotel ratings - please take a look at those as well.
