Lovely Sunday lunch of 3 courses, good value and nicely served by helpful and friendly staff. Sitting by the window we also had a lovely view of the park.

The Orangerie is a great place to eat at Cannizaro house. It has views across the park and the chefs are busy cooking in view of everyone. The food was exceptional and we shall certainly go there again

The service is absolutely dreadful. The quality and presentation of the food and drink is really poor. Despite the attractive building and surrounding parkland it’s just a very disappointing experience, it always has been. I live in Wimbledon and it’s a bit of a running joke in the area. It’s been awful for years. It’s a shame because it’s such a huge missed opportunity but the management and staff just let the place down. I really hope it changes hands soon and somebody with some talent breathes life into it.

Totally rubbish food. I can’t believe that you can present a classic ‘Italian’ menu and make the food so bland, tasteless, badly cooked, and utterly awful. It’s not rocket science, basic ‘Italian’ classics. It’s about flavour!!! Here there is none. You will be disappointed. I’m also annoyed! For God’s sake, hire chefs that can cook and staff that understand food and drink. 4/10 because we ate the food. I could make this food a 7 and I’m not a chef.

The Orangery at Cannizaro has lovely views over the park and at night faces the sunset. How I wish it were open most days instead of closing for all the functions. And stop charging £2 for parking when guests have spend £130 on a meal! The sole meuniere was brilliant with fries and fried twirls of courgette - an excellent choice and the Reisling was great too. Please be open for regulars.

My wife and I recently had drinks in the Cannizaro hotel, Wimbledon. They have an out and inside section. I used one of the connecting doors, which had people moving freely in and out. The supervisor of the Orangery required me to not use this door but to instead walk outside, then around the perimeter of their gardens and in through the front door to access the foyer which was 5 meters away from where I started, claiming he preferred that door be used for staff only (despite it having been in use just a few minutes previously in my eyesight by other customers). It certainly was not obviously a staff door - but even if I’m mistaken and it was, it was an unbelievably petty moment and his attitude was weirdly condescending. Most staff there are helpful and pleasant and it’s his domain so I complied politely but will not return.

The orangery, is very nice for a relaxed lunch on a summer’s day, but lacks the atmosphere or intimacy you might want for an evening meal. We found the staff were friendly and efficient - they dealt well with dietary requests thoughtfully and the menu was well marked for these too. But it was all rather transactional more than warm or engaging. The food was simple (steak, chips, grilled tomato — in the mode of a 1980s Aberdeen Steak house) but well enough done - albeit probably priced up 50% more than it warranted. Might have been 3* but then we got a weird kicker at the end when asked to pay £4 for parking in the hotel’s own car park having just forked out £250 in their restaurant. Just felt like an unworthy attempt to extract that final little bit out of us!

As a local resident, I have dined at the restaurant many times before. I love the setting even though the food is only average. But I just discovered to my surprise that Hotel Du Vin the chain owner now charges for parking. I had to pay £6.5 for less than 2 hours parking - my friend has a disability - on top of spending over £80 for a lunch for two. I wrote to the hotel but was told this is an experiment!!! I will be boycotting such a greedy, uncaring establishment.

Do not eat here if you have any sort of dietary requirement eg Gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian etc. The Italian menu seems to be cast in stone and is set by head office of the Du Vin group. The restaurant seems unable to make changes to any meal and so gives no opportunity for the chefs to cater for people who have special dietary needs. My meals (GF.DF) were dry, and boring, I never ate it all and I did not enjoy it. The service was extremely disappointing - I had to wave vigorously to attract attention. No GF cereal or dairy free option for breakfast (except cooked) Nothing for me to eat on room service except chicken with half a lemon on the side. Its a great location on the edge of Wimbledon Common, we had a very nice room but were surprised to find it is £12 a day to park in the car park.

having grown up in Wimbledon & dining in Cannizaro for many years it's so disappointing how awful this hotel has become. Since Hotel Du Vin have taken over I have visited 4 times and last night was the final straw. Once for lunch on a Friday at 1pm to be told they had run out of chicken! Again for my Mother's 97th birthday after specifically mentioning the special occasion lunch, the hotel calling the day before to confirm the booking even mentioning they will ensure the table is dressed & the meal will be a special one.... nothing different on the day!. Again on a Friday so not at all busy food inedible two dishes were returned, & another table had candles on their dessert to celebrate their special occasion however when I asked what happened to our request we were informed they'd run out of candles!!! the staff or rather lack of staff are clearly not trained as the vase was changed in the middle of us eating without an excuse me or anything for that matter, just leant over us mid meal, so unprofessional unnecessary & rude. When we complained, especially as we wanted this to be a special occasion for mum they seemed quite suprised & said they were unaware of the requests even though they called us to confirm the day before! we spoke with the Supervisor on the day who couldn't have been more disinterested if she tried. The quality of the food was less than good. Finally gave the restsurant a last chance last evening with friends, 6 in total & this was the last straw! Advertised as jazz & canapés.... no jazz just a young lad singing, albeit lovely, however not as advertised & where werethe canapés?? a Friday evening and extemely quiet in the restaurant for dinner to be infirmed they were not cooking ??? & had run out of fish & chips! They placed orders for 5 meals omitting the 6th! so one person had to wait for their meal to be cooked which arrrived almost 15mins later. Duck inedible so chewy & all in all just terrible. I booked this as a special occasion celebration for friends and am so embarrassed at the lack of staff, service and overall dreadful experience. After growing up in Wimbledon & this being our go to hotel for events, drinks & meals never again. it was awful, so disappointing.....never again.

This is a stunning location on the edge of Wimbledon Common, with a lovely conservatory dining room and a pretty terrace for pre-dinner drinks. We have a soft spot for it as we spent our wedding night and held our son's christening lunch here. So it seemed the right place to come back to celebrate our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary (with son in tow - anything for a free dinner). Sadly the previous reviews regarding the service are all correct. The food, when it comes, is pretty good and not overpriced but, in a near empty dining room, they managed to get one of our starters wrong and then failed to bring our side dishes at all. To their great credit, however, they very kindly wrote off the entire cost of dinner (including drinks), a substantial sum. I would so much have preferred to pay and come away having really enjoyed the evening - I so want the restaurant to succeed but while the lack of attention and clueless service continues, it will only go one way. Such a shame.

The evening started off well with drinks and lovely canapés in the bar. The restaurant seating isn’t comfortable as they have rattan garden furniture- bit odd. The food was ok but the main let down was the service. It was hard to attract the attention of the staff even with frantic waving! We had an issue with the main as the chips were barely cooked so they were sent back. We then had to chase to get a replacement after waiting at least 15 minutes and by that time the rest of the food was cold! Also beware that the chocolate tart is rock solid- couldn’t break into it with my spoon. We were told Chef makes it that way even though they have had other similar complaints!

As a guest at the hotel (and a fan of the early days of Hotel du Vin), it was relaxing to know that if you didn’t feel like being adventurous at dinner, you could have a wonderful experience here. Alas, not up to expectations. It isn’t just that you feel like, as a customer, you’re kind of treated as if you’re a bother than a guest, the service was awkward. Slow. Uneven – it took longer to get a glass of wine than for my starter to be served. Unfortunately, the first entrée I tried to order was apparently sold out at 7 p.m. – hello, why not lead with what you no longer have? – but the waitress didn’t make any effort to otherwise decode the menu.

I have visited this establishment on numerous occasions and always felt it was an extremely high quality, superior service experience. However this time it failed and whether it is because now it s a Du Vin hotel, of a chain, it lacks the high quality service. Breakfast was nice but the service very poor. No smiles from the ladies, everything had to be asked for I.e salt pepper sauces extra toast hot tea...... Just the basics. Set in a great location and with very little competition in the surrounding area, this could be a real jewel in Wimbledon Village. What needs to change is really easy but it requires a commitment to do better. This includes having more staff in the drinks / bar area so that people are not waiting 15 + minutes for drinks on a Sunday lunchtime and taking more care with what you serve children. The adult beef was really good but we asked for exactly the same for our children (pink) but theirs was very well done to say the least. Don’t be complacent that because they are children that the quality of their food isn’t important - they are your future customers so make the right impression when you can. I think you should also make sure that you refresh the buffet regularly as by the time we sat down at 2.30pm it was clear that some of the food had been sitting around for some time. The pate as an example had noticeably dried around the edges. Perhaps it would be better to put less out and replenish it when needed than to put lots out at the start. That said, you can not dispute the quality of food and with a few minor tweak / improvements this could easily be a five star restaurant.

A return visit after a few years - unrecognisable in every way other then the view! Food was poor & badly presented. Too few staff to serve the customers that were there and senior staff seemed to be absent as there was several tables asking for them. Booked as expected this to be busy but how times have changed as there was several empty tables. Left very sad that a celebratory night out was so ordinary and that a great institution seems to be on its knees.

Poor food overpriced - small portions some overcooked and tasteless. Out of a party of seven adults each one of us had the same response that we were extremely disappointed. This Hotel really needs to do better as it charges way over the top for below average food.

Took my grandmother here for afternoon tea for her birthday and although the atmosphere was pleasant and the ambiance was nice, I was very disappointed with the tea, for the price you certainly don't get value for money so It will be unlikely that I would return.

Having grown up in Wimbledon I've been to Cannizaro many times for Afternoon Tea and Dinner. Whilst the setting is the same-ish, it was the first time I've been since Hotel du Vin took over. How disappointing. The music was not in keeping with the venue, which even my 11yr old commented on. Dinner was overpriced and extremely bland. Compensated by overly salty sauces. We had baby squid to start (bland) with aioli (too salty!!!), and I had cod (bland) covered in a sauce of cabbage and salmon (odd and bland!) and my son had the steak & chips - steak was inedible and came with a side of something that tasted like french toast/bread and butter pudding. We left most of it on our plates and didn't stay for pudding. £67 for really badly cooked food. We will go back there, but only for a walk in the gardens in the summer. So sad. It feels like an old place being inherited by someone who doesn't care about its history and gives it a hideous makeover. Feels cheap. Cannizaro House needs to get new (very traditional) management.

I booked a table for my mums 80th birthday lunch, on arrival no booking in my name although I'd written in my diary as I booked it so no doubt on my part given the fact your mums not 80 every day, felt dining manager was trying to accommodate us and he did have an unnamed booking for 8 which may well have been meant to be us ! agreed to walk around the gardens for an hour , when we returned frozen the table we'd been allocated still had previous diners chatting at it (after 3hrs +) staff didn't seem be able to encourage them to move to lounge area or offer them drinks there which would have freed up table. Finally sat down .. No roast beef and limited menu, by this time my parents in their 80,s had had enough , we persuaded them to eat something as too late to book anywhere else and my dad did enjoy his fish meal although my daughters fish pie was dry and unedable , sent back yet again .

For seven years my family and I have often enjoyed the beautiful setting, the grounds and the traditional English tea with endless succulent sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and little cakes - but sadly the tea incentive is no more. On looking forward yet again to this treat today, we find that those delicious sandwiches and cakes have now been replaced with a tiny quiche, a tomatoey bruschetta type thing, an egg roll and a bit of smoked salmon on a crust of some sort, followed by some little dessert-type puddings. The scones and cream were there (though the cream was straight from the fridge and very hard) but this and the choice of tea were the only 'English' contributions. So if you're looking for the traditional English tea, forget it here. I appreciate Cannizaro House has been taken over by the French chain Hotel du Vin (sad its lovely name has been replaced) but it is still in England - and in very English Wimbledon! All in all, now very disappointing.

Our lunch didn't get off to a great start as our table was booked for 2pm and we were not seated until 2.45pm however the staff and food made up for it as a complimentary glass of champagne was given to compensate us and from then on we received very attentive service. The food was very good, my firiend said the best Onion soup she'd ever had! Would definitely go back

Visited the restaurant with family for late morning coffee and snacks. Never visiting again. Incredibly expensive- £3.75 each for a machine made latte. Got a pastry basket- £6.95 for 5 small, stale, overcooked, inedible pastries (see picture). Disgusting. Service included in the bill- what service. No staff to be seen anywhere. Having had good experiences several years ago we were left very disappointed and in awe of the cost. Better off going to a high street coffee shop- you'd get more choice, better service and better value. Expected better. Having now read previous reviews it seems our experience is not a one off. Maybe the hotel needs to actually take notice.

The location and setting are superb and then it goes all awry. The "service" is laughable at best, the number of staff is numerous however fewer, quality staff would be far more practical. The attentive staff may have the best in tentions but none of them follow through with your expectations. We asked 3 times for a child's high chair, we were persuaded we needed some tap water, which after the 3rd request was brought however the glasses never arrived!!! We ordered 2 cream teas which came without plates or cutlery so we had to go into the Orangery to ask one of the waiters who gave a deep sigh and reluctantly went and fetched some for us.The table next to ours fared even worse, we really did think it was a set up for You've Been Framed, drinks spilled over people, wrong orders brought, bottles dropped when being collected, you really couldn't make it up.

I had a bad experience two years ago at Cannizaro House when taken there for a Mother's Day lunch, but - unfortunately - decided to give it another chance. My daughter, and Her husband proposed Sunday Lunch as a treat for my Husband's birthday - another disaster. Firstly, we were disappointed in the 'roasts' offered, but two of us chose the roast beef - it was inedible. When the waitress came to clear our table, she did not even comment on my practically uneaten plate of food, nor on that of the other three diners. My husband's fish was dreadful, and my daughter left almost all of her risotto. She is vegetarian and risotto is about the only main course available - better described as stodgy, wet rice! I complained to the waitress and pointed out how much food was left on our plates - she barely acknowledged what I'd said (language difficulty?). Service was dreadful - extremely slow even to get menus -- and poor choices of first course from the 'buffet', which hadn't changed much in 2 years. The cheese board was disgusting - cheeses mixed up because not enough knives available; nothing replaced; and 'foreign bodies' left to lie there. When I pointed to this mess, the waitress told me that it's the customers' fault! Needless to say, we didn't have cheese. We asked for water with ice and lemon - we had a jug of water placed down; we asked again for ice and lemon: the ice came in a glass with nothing with which to lift it out, and there were 5 very small slices of lemon for 4 people. We had to ask repeatedly for more water - again no ice or lemon. The wine is overpriced, particularly by the glass. The room in which we were seated is dark and depressing and music is too loud. Noise from the Orangery on a Sunday lunchtime is just too much for those looking for a decent Sunday afternoon treat. The staff did not speak to us at all, not even to ask if we were happy with everything: but perhaps there's 'method' in that 'madness'. After we'd asked for the bill, a manager appeared and said he had taken something off, due to my complaint about the roast beef. This was a minimal amount - and to ask customers to pay full-price for 3 other totally unsatisfactory meals is just not good business sense. We definitely won't be back. (I agree completely with other recent reviews about poor service and unsavoury food and high prices)

... this place is as bad (if not worse!) as all the previous reviews have said. Anyone who has had a reasonable experience at Cannizaro lately has been lucky. Incredibly lucky. I live locally and use the park regularly. I used to give Cannizaro my custom too. Back when it was a boutique hotel that made the effort for all its guests. That started to change when Hotel Du Vin took over and now I can honestly say that the restaurant and The Orangery are shameful examples of hospitality at it's very worst. I was begged by my family to go there recently for Afternoon Tea and the visit was as dreadful as I feared it would be. Every single aspect of the visit was a cause of frustration or anger. I'm just delighted that I managed to convince everyone to have the less expensive 'Cream Tea' as opposed to the utter con that is the 'Afternoon Tea'. At least the visit was cheap(er) and nasty. Where to start! The waiting staff should not be working in a restaurant. I dare say most of them never have before. I waitressed my way through 7 years in college so I have a lot of respect for good service. And a very keen eye for bad service. The staff in The Orangery are short-tempered, truculent, forgetful and largely indifferent to the needs of their guests. Our food was dumped down in the middle of the table, the tea didn't arrive for another 20 minutes and the missing cutlery was not brought, even though we asked for it twice. I ended up getting it myself. Afternoon Tea is a great British tradition that Cannizaro seem to be destroying on a daily basis between 12pm and 6pm. You need a microscope to see the scones, they're that small. The jam is Bonne Maman which feels like an own-goal when there are so many great local jams. Why use a mass-produced French jam? The clotted cream isn't really clotted cream - it's the kind of beige tiling grout that they use in hospitals. And you only get two tiny scones per person. Very tight indeed. And to add insult to injury, the tea was infused not from loose leaves, as is quite the point of Afternoon Tea. It was fresh from a tea bag. 'Happy Shopper', no doubt. During our visit, one of the waiting staff - a chap called Robin - did try and recover some goodwill. He was very charming and friendly but by this stage, we were all somewhat frazzled by the efforts of waiting 90 minutes for a cup of tea, a scone with all the trimmings and a tea spoon. The effort was appreciated but the damage had been done. Things won't change at Cannizaro until people stop going there, so no doubt they'll continue to limp on. My sincere advice is that, unless you will lose a limb by not visiting, try somewhere else. The business is failing on every level to offer a dining experience that is enjoyable and value for money. And there are plenty of places locally that are succeeding. If the view from the windows wasn't so pleasant or the surroundings so convivial, this place would be empty all day, every day. Don't waste your money or your time.

Dining here was a sad, disappointing experience. There were very few customers, despite signs saying that the restaurant was fully booked. The Orangery looks so beautiful and classy, but the reality was an average chain restaurant with poor service. During our meal, we heard the man who seemed to be in charge having a row with one of his staff within our our earshot. It did not seem to be a happy place. Before Hotel du Vin took over, this was one of the best restaurants in Wimbledon, with an imaginative menu that changed with what the chef was able to buy that week. Now the menu is clearly the standard chain restaurant fare, printed on laminated card. And the waiting staff were in tee-shirts. More like a mid-market pizzeria than a fine dining restaurant. The food was very average, as described by other disappointed reviewers here.If you're staying at the hotel, walk across the Common to Light on the Common or Light House, both of which are consistently excellent. If you're not staying here, don't bother. I don't think they really want your custom.

we were staying here for 2 nights and booked a meal on the first night. It was surely one of the worse things I have ever eaten. How a so called Chef can send food out like this and pretend its good food, is really beyond belief. I didnt say anything online as I left a letter to the Manager but as I havent received a reply, I feel its a good time to publish what the Manager couldnt be bothered replying to. Seriously both my husband and I couldnt believe how bad the food was. I wont talk about the staff, although they needed a lot of training, but the food, again, but the food. What on earth. How can you send out food that is so bad. Well its a rhetorical question, no need to answer really. If you are staying at this hotel, please, please do not eat the dinner there, walk to one of the local pubs/restaurants in order to eat decent food. This manager and this chef ought to be ashamed of themselves.

On Sunday 16th July My family dined at this hotel. It was a special occasion as we have not been together since 2010 and it was also my 65th birthday. My fish pie contained a large piece of cling film and I alerted the waitress who took the meal away and said she would get the manager. He did not arrive for 15 mins and by that time all our party had finished their main course. I was offered another meal but did not want to delay the party any further as we had two young children with us and they were getting fractious. The Bill came and the manager had removed the service charge and given us a reduction which was all OK and we left. I must say I was disappointed. We had traveled down from North Yorkshire and returned home the following day. My husband gave me the receipt for our records and I noticed that he had charged us for 9 Adults and we were only 8. I telephoned the hotel restaurant and explained, and was told that the manager would get back to me but he never did. This is a week later and NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

I have had two visits to the restaurant recently and in both the service was very disappointing. The setting is absolutely stunning, you can sit in the orangery or on the terrace both of which look out onto the 'film set' grounds, reminiscent of Downton Abbey; or you can sit in the bar area which is tastefully and comfortably stylish. The problem is that they no longer seem to understand the protocols of serving i.e. you seat someone come back in five minutes and take their order. There appear to be a lot of staff milling about, they seat you then come back in half an hour to take your order and then another half an hour to bring your order. This happened when I went for a simple coffee and then again when I went for afternoon tea. If it hadn't been for the setting I would have left. The restaurant is under new ownership/management, a few years ago it was a lot better. Also the afternoon tea was a very mean, paltry disappointment compared to 3 years ago.

A group of 16 of us pre-booked a table for lunch at the restaurant at Cannizaro with a prebooked set choice on the menus. The food was fine although not particularly inspired or creative but the service was very poor with dishes arriving at random so some of us started eating whilst others sad and waited for their starters/main courses - many of which were salads. When it come desert we waited over an hour for these and were then told that the one we had chosen was now off the menu. I understand that they had a wedding or function and this was just pre-Wimbledon fortnight but if you cannot service the booking don't take it.

It is the second time we have been for tea at Cannizzaro House - last time about 3 years ago and they were opposite ends of quality. Last time it was traditional tea and the service was exceptional. This time it was terrible. I emailed, telephoned and a,aid said hence I got there that it was a special birthday ad could we have some sort of cake or candle on one of the trays - I ordered champagne and made it clear I wa happy to pay for the candle. They did absolutely nothing. From the time we got there we were told they needed our table for dinner. It is not afternoon tea. The savouries came out on a plate per person and comprised of croissant, 1 egg roll, a biscuit thing and a small quiche - the quiche was the only thing that felt it formed part of afternoon tea.. we then got the towers with scones and cream/jam but with donuts as well - no pots of coffee and tea - individual grendy mugs. We were moved out as soon as we finished our scones and sat outside having drinks. Cannizzaro is a beautiful location and the only reason for going on to the hotel and getting a drink is to enjoy the surroundings. Very disapointing and expected so much more if this hotel having been a regular visitor for dinner, weddings etc over many years. Won't be rushing back any time soon and defiantly not for afternoon tea. Sorry - I a man sad to write this!

We stayed to attend the wedding celebrations of our daughter and now son in law at the hotel. All of staff we interacted with were very professional, attentive and a delight to interact with. Great breakfast offering with plenty of choice and good quality. Room was gorgeous and very pleasantly quiet given the location. Highly recommend having an event there and mooching around the locale too.

🚇 Tooting 🍺 £5.95 Pravha The Goringe Park is located on the border between Tooting and Mitcham in Southwest London. The nearest station is Tooting mainline, the nearest Tube is Tooting Broadway. The Gorringe Park dates back to 1879, taking its name from the nearby Gorringe Park Estate which is long since been swallowed up by suburbia. This was originally a Young and Co pub, Charles Wells Pub Company purchased it from Youngs in 2012. This is a vibrant and spacious multiroom pub which is set out over three floors. The main bar is located on the ground floor and is set out in a “J” shape around a centrally located servery. The decor is bold, mixing bright colours, eclectic furniture and traditional fireplaces. In the basement is a Cinema room, upstairs is a function room called The Library which has a small bar and a contemporary decorative feel. At the back of the pub is a walled beer garden with a tiki hut. The beer line up was broad and featured familiar brands, two cask ales and beers from @brewpointuk which I’ve not seen in London before. I kept it simple and ordered a Pravha, my pint was great, price point was average. The food menu was predominantly burgers with a few traditional pub grub options, Fish & Chips costs £13.95. I arrived just after opening at 12pm and was the first punter through the doors. I was greeted by the Guv’nor who was welcoming, friendly and personable. He was kind enough to give me a tour of the pub, and he told me all about the history of the pub and what they have on. Unfortunately this pub shut its doors in the summer and it is not clear what the next step is or what the future holds. One thing is for certain, pubs are closing at a phenomenal rate across the country and need as much support as they can get. Utilities companies, landlords and the government need to do a lot more. Also, they need our support in our local communities. Use it or lose it, support your local pub where you can. 📅 13th April 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻
