4 of us met up for a family reunion and were very impressed with the standards and food quality. Prawn starters were beautfully cooked and presented, as were the mains where we all had different choices - the lamb rump being my personal favourite was cooked to perfection. Wine fairly pricey. This was not a cheap meal but was well worth the cost and worth travelling a little out of the city centre and away from all the chain restaurants.

It has been a while since we went to the Restaurant 66. The three of us had an outstanding meal. Phillipo the manager was extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much. He recommended the grilled sea bream which we all had. He took the trouble to show us the fish before it was cooked. It was superb and he boned the fish by the table. I do hope Phillipo makes a success of his make over and I believe it will become one of the best places to eat in Oxford at a reasonable price.

We spent the weekend at the Cotswold Lodge Hotel as a family of 4 couples. Our tariff included £25 towards our evening meal and breakfast. The restaurant is set in a pretty well organised comfortable environment, but the menu prices meant that it was almost impossible to have 2 courses for the allowed price. I only had the main course, others had to have the soup and a chicken dish to keep the price under our £25 allowance. My sister had a steak and had to return it uneaten because of the huge amount of fat and gristle. I do wonder why a chef could cook such meat and then serve it. Makes you wonder about quality control. Fortunately the hotel did not charge for this meal. We were each given a roll to start our meal; we were not asked to choose one, but it was selected for us by the waiter. Again disappointing. Breakfast was also sub par. Lots of choice of pastries fruit etc and of cooked offerings. But why should so many dishes have a supplement, when the cost of B and B is so high? The cooked breakfast was good, but if you asked for porridge and the cooked offering then they were brought to the table at the same time! Why, especially when we asked for a gap between? I’m afraid there were others problems too: wrong items, badly under cooked poached egg and so on. I really like the hotel, it’s ideally placed in this wonderful city. But I wouldn’t book dinner bed and breakfast again.

My wife and I have eaten here on several occasions but this time our lunch was outstanding. To start my wife had ham hock terrine and I had the smoked salmon - both were excellent. To follow she had chicken escalope on a bed of risotto and I had hake with red potatoes and asparagus in a saffron cream fish sauce which was superb. We shared a chocolate fondant dessert. All this for £15.00 for two courses and £18.50 for three. Service was very good from a trainee waiter Nicholas who was appropriately guided and supported by Constantine, the Manager. The restaurant is part of the Cotswold Lodge Hotel and we would highly recommend it.

My wife and I, and a friend, had a pleasant lunch at 66A. Asparagus was in season, so we had asparagus risotto all around, very tasty. We were also unanimous in choosing pavlova for dessert, which was less successful: the meringue was hard, with only a few berries, though the strawberries and raspberries were of the best quality. Service was friendly and attentive.

We organised a special surprise Sunday lunch for my parents' ruby anniversary for 24 people in Restaurant 66a. There was plenty of parking and the hotel looked appealing upon arrival. Everyone was very pleased with the setting, comfort and food in the restaurant. We were put in a more private area so as not to disturb other diners. The food was delicious. We all had generous porions of meat which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Vegetables were served on a sharing platter and were also nicely cooked. Desserts were lovely and good sized portions. All in all we were very well catered for and enjoyed a lovely relaxing afternoon. My parents loved it. Thank you, Cotswold Lodge, for helping us create a memorable occasion.

We decided to eat at the Cotswold Lodge hotel when staying near by, we sat in the resident's lounge with a welcoming open fire, ordered out food and then decided to eat in the bar (rather than the restaurant), mainly because there didn't seems to be many people in the restaurant, the bar was appealing and again, there was an open fire. We chose the chicken curry and the minute steak, the food and service were good, staff were friendly. A decent selection of wines by the glass, we were happy with the meal!

We were staying at the wonderful Cotswold Lodge Hotel which included a dinner voucher and breakfast. The restaurant is conveniently located within the Cotswold Lodge Hotel and we enjoyed a lovely dinner and breakfast here. The first thing you notice is the staff and how welcoming and accommodating they are for their quest’s. For our evening meal I had a chicken and my partner had a scallop starter both of which were lovely. Our mains were both the fillet steak and we both agreed it was perfectly cooked and the best we had tasted in a long while. The breakfast was a buffet affair with cereals, fruit, pastries and juices on offer. The staff would then bring teas/coffees, toast and take your cooked breakfast order. The cooked breakfast was a high quietly affair, my poached eggs were cooked perfectly and we agreed that the sausages were the best we had at any hotel breakfast. Again the staff were amazing in their service and making sure we were being looked after and had everything we needed.

We decided to give this restaurant another chance after having had very variable results when we have eaten here previously. We had Sunday lunch and I can say that, while the service was excellent and attentive and the dining room is very nice (apart from a layer of dust on the window blinds!) the food was extremely disappointing. There was hardly any choice of vegetables - the haddock I ordered came with broccoli which I don't much like and the only alternative offered was cabbage, which upsets me, so I had to go with the broccoli, which was barely cooked and very difficult to cut with the blunt knife. The hake was rather tasteless, although there was plenty of it and the violet potatoes were rather lumpy. It was all served in a bowl, so while I was attempting to cut the broccoli, my knife banged on the sides of the bowl and mad a tremendous amount of noise. I wasn't offered any sauces of any kind to liven it up a bit. My husband's meal, the Sunday roast was a slight improvement, as the beef was perfectly cooked and delicious, but spoiled by the roast potatoes, which seemed as though they had been cooked previously and warmed up as they were very dry. It was only when we noticed that other people had been served Yorkshire pudding with their beef that we realised that my husband hadn't been given any and by then he had finished the beef! He had to ask for more gravy as the potatoes were so dry. He also had to ask for horse radish, which wasn't offered without asking. I put some on my hake as well to make it a bit more interesting. We both had chocolate tart for dessert as two courses were included in the price- this was OK but nothing special. Altogether, we found it very disappointing and won't be going there again!

Having started off so well in the nice bar area with friendly Bar manager Luke ..it so rapidly went down hill once we were seated for Sunday lunch ...the starters we average . A terrine and smoked salmon ...the roast pork lunch was probably the worst Sunday roast my wife and I have ever tried ...pretty much pulled pork shaped into a cone ...with potatoes that looked like they had been cooked all week ....a smear of celeriac purée and a quarter of a purple carrot sliced in two ....followed by cheese board (which was actually ok ) the poor waitresses couldn't even manage a smile between them .....and couldn't work out what we were on about when we asked for some apple sauce .Such a shame ...we really wanted to like it as its walking distance from where we live .We were advised to try it again by a member of staff...so we probably will one day ..he said the a la carte menu is a lot netter hopefully if we return he is right ...Sunday lunch is a no no ..

My friend and I decided to get tea at the Cotswold Lodge today and I must say we were very impressed. The staff was very friendly. They greeted us and sat us immediately. Our waiter was a very sweet Italian man named Andrea. He was incredibly personable and really made our experience. He very quickly took our order and the tea arrived soon after, followed shortly by the scones, sandwiches, and cakes. Everything was incredible. The scones were hot and had an amazing glaze on the top. They were the best scones I have had since coming to Oxford and I have had tea at five other locations. My friend enjoyed the sandwiches and the cakes, as well. The classic English Breakfast Tea was very good and served at the perfect temperature as it was not scolding. I am very happy to have discovered this gem before the end of term because I plan to return. I must reiterate one more time how amazing the scones were. They were a little dense, the two scones and tea made me very full but it was well worth it. The clotted cream was also very good and I cannot wait to return. Thank you for the lovely experience!!!

Don't let this put you off, the menu has a nice selection, especially deserts, the building is charming and quiet, the servers were attentive and the food surprised me. We ate this restaurant to take advantage of their current deal which takes £25 per person off the price of the bill. For my husband and me, this was £50 which seemed like a good deal. It was a Sunday night and we ate with our daughter about 7.30pm. There were perhaps 2 other tables occupied but the rest of the restaurant was dead. The waitress was pleasant but our drinks order was late being taken - we twiddled our thumbs for 10 minutes - and was late arriving once it had been taken. The wine list and beer list were deeply unimpressive: hardly any wines by the glass and the beer was Carling or Worthingtons. My daughter's apple juice was cheap juice that tasted watered down. The sparkling water was Robinson's, the cheapest of the cheap and not worth the mark up. The table itself was made up of cheap cutlery and cheap glassware and the atmosphere was dull and cold. My starter of beetroot and goats cheese was excellent and beautifully presented on slate (although a very chipped and tired looking slate slab). My husband's soup (which we had to ask about - why don't they ever tell you what the soup of the day is?) was smoked onion but tasted more like burnt pickled onions. Awful. The bread was cheap, tiny white bread rolls. Really cheap. The mains were awful. My monkfish tail and seafood had clearly been heated from frozen, so everything was chewy and not overly warm. The white bean stew the fish was sitting on was not cooked properly so the beans were still hard. I complained about the stew and was insulted to be told these type of (cannellini) beans were meant to be al dente. An al dente bean? An al dente stew? Really? How rude to insult my intelligence and culinary interests like that. I refused to eat the beans and asked for something else so as not to waste the fish and seafood. I chose dauphinois potatoes which promptly came out cold in the middle. I then refused to pay for my main meal. My daughter's lamb was fatty, chewy and too pink for oven roasted lamb shoulder. Her curly kale was cold. The wilted spinach side order was too small in its size and dreadfully salty. My husband's pork dish was just average and small. The desserts were good but the chocolate fondant was not hot enough in its centre. The cherry icecream was delicious. Overall a very disappointing meal and I would never return to 66a or recommend it to others. The food sounds the part but is let down by the kitchen. And the table settings and ambience could be improved. Bamboo placemats and scratched stainless steel flatware make the place look like a student refectory. Avoid.

Food is really average. The bread roll was hard and cold like it had been overnight. Service was pretty OK though.<br />However, at the end I paid by cash. After waiting for a while they didn&#039;t give me change. Thinking that they might take it as tips my friend and I left without asking.

I went to the restaurant mainly because I was staying at the hotel and did not want to walk into town. I had neglected to make a reservation and was told that there was only availability at 6:30pm or 9:30pm. I wanted to get to sleep early (due to jet lag) so 6:30pm was fine with me. I arrived at 6:30pm and was the only person in the dining room. No one else even came in until 7pm, which was a bit awkward. I don't want to harp on this though because the hotel may have allowed me to eat early to be accommodative. I had the 2 course fixed price menu. My asparagus soup was amazing, my rump of steak was fine but nothing special but the potato and vegetable sides weren't very good. I ordered a glass of wine to accompany my meal, which came about about 5-10 minutes or so after my meal. Not a big deal but considering there weren't many others in the restaurant (and no other meals ordered at that time), I was surprised it wasn't better coordinated. On my bill they had charged me for a bottle rather than by glass. It was corrected per my request. Overall, I found the meal to be overpriced for the quality. However, if I were traveling with others I can see the decor and location making it an attractive option.

While staying at the hotel we decided to eat at the hotel for convenience. We opted for the set menu. this was very good value. The food was nice and filling but would not win awards.I would eat here again and the staff were friendly and polite. the decoration is clean and stylish. It was very quite when we ate and the atmosphere was a bit flat.

Our dinner was part of our room deal and it was beautiful, the salmon was the best we had ever had and the house wine was about £16 which we thought was good for a hotel. Would definitely eat there again.

We were very comfortable at the Cotswold Lodge for the four days of our stay. Pleasant bedrooms, only rather thin walls so you relied on quiet neighbours. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Breakfast very good, lots of choice.

Limited set menu range (22.50 for three courses) but a la carte more inviting - and a bit pricier. .

Pleasant restaurant favoured by people of a certain age in a small four-star hotel in a quiet but easily accessible location a little north of the city centre. Relatively traditional food at reasonable prices. Free on-site car park an unusual feature for Oxford.

Six of us, including an eight year old child, had Sunday lunch at Restaurant 66A in March 2013. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The crab, crayfish and prawn cocktail was copious and very good as was the wild mushroom filo tart for starters. We had the lamb and beef for main courses both which we can recommend. For desert, we treated ourselves to the warm chocolate and hazelnut brownie and sticky toffee pudding, which were both excellent.

Food for thought - we though and on 2nd day - ate in the bar.Not a huge choice on menu, lacked atmosphere with awful piped music. Had potatoe and leek soup for starters and chicken in a wine sauce with nice veggies for main. Good choice of wines. An OK evening but not a place I would choose for a special occassion

I booked this restaurant having read the reviews on this website and it didn&#039;t disappoint. The restaurant is well presented, it&#039;s classy but not too pretentious and the staff were attentive and very accommodating. The menu was a four course set menu which had plenty of choice and was very competitively priced. He food was amazing, especially he fillet of beef which was cooked to perfection and a very good size. We really enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend this to anyone. It was well worth the short taxi ride from the main shopping area to get there.

Booked for our daughters 19th birthday - booked late and had early 12.00 booking. Members of the party were late and the lovely staff were polite and helpful about it. Staff were attentive and informative. Food excellent. Lovely atomosphere and enjoyed by teenagers to the "older" generations.

Stayed at the hotel and dinner in the restaurant was included in the price. The atmosphere was nice, very quiet, but in a nice way. A three course meal fire around £18-£25. The selection is limited to 4 options for each course, but the quality of the food was great. The quantity of the food wasn't the biggest but it's the course so I was completely full up by the end of it. The selection of wines and drinks was great. I enjoyed the house red wine. The staff were warm, friendly, and gave us our space. I'm glad I dined there.

A quiet corner of a small hotel, not far out from downtown. Wonderfully personable service -- worth going just to enjoy the staff -- and excellently prepared food: for example, a charming and intelligently unusual version of a tart, composed of a crisp round cracker set on greens, with an onion jam mounded on the cracker and a goat&#039;s curd glaze over all. And a very tasty crayfish and avocado salad. A very well prepared sea bass and a wonderful squash and parmesan risotto: nicely toothy rice, meltingly soft squash, and a very top quality parmesan, pulled together with a pesto drizzle.

we checked in early to let the staff know that we were in the area and wouldn't be back until later in the evening. it was too early to check in, but we knew that. we came back around 9pm, checked in, but found that our reservation for twin beds had been ignored. went back to the front desk to find that we were out of luck, not another room available, not even another single room available, so one of us was sleeping on the floor. they did bring and extra duvet and pillows to accomodate us and cut 50 pounds off the bill, but it didn't make up the inconveniece of the discomfort for these old bones sleeping on the floor.Breakfast was also a disaster. we ordered two teas, two white toasts and a side of bacon. we sat there for about 15 minutes, everyone else had cleared the restaurant. they came out with the bacon. um...tea? toast? then they delivered a tray of two white, two wheat and both the white toasts were burnt. the tea was good when it finally arrived. the person in charge enquired much too late to be helpful.on the onset, this looks to be a nice place. on closer inspection, it's been left to poor maintenance. there are much better hotels in Oxford, please find another. we visited a friend staying at the Hawkwell House, this is a much better place!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish we could have booked there instead!

This restaurant mainly serves as a hotel restaurant, but you cannot transfer a bill for pre-meal drinks in the hotel bar to the restaurant bill, and if you want to pay by credit card this must be carried out in the hotel reception as there is no machine in the restaurant. The food was nice - a choice of four starters, four mains and four desserts. The food we ate was very nice - not outstanding but filling and cooked and presented well. The service was fine, and when we had questions, the waitress went out of her way to find the answers. If I stayed in the hotel I would eat here again, but for me it's not a destination restaurant.

My mum and I had supper here after I moved into my uni accommodation. We were both exhausted. We had two courses from the set menu- duck breast and then chocolate fondant for me, which was scrumptious, and came to under 20 gbp. Great value for money, friendly and efficient service, I would definitely recommend to anyone in Oxford. I also stayed there- the hotel is just as nice.

This extremely friendly hotel served a delicious lunch to me and four of my friends yesterday 29th.July 2012.Attentive staff served locally sourced meats and vegetables which were freshly cooked. No short cuts boil in the bag, microwaved or packet sauces here!Good choices on the table d'hote menu, value for money and a not pricey house wine. The setting was a bit staid but the staff and the whole occasion made up for any cosmetic deficiencies.Would definitely recommend to friends and will return again myself in the near future.

We love the feel of 66a, the restaurant is set within the Cotswold Lodge Hotel. It is quiet and calm, the menu normally offers 6 starters, main courses and desserts. It seems to change regularly and always offers a diverse and unusual choice. We introduced our friends recently and now they will go nowhere else. We particularly enjoy the afternoon tea, especially when the weather is fine and you can sit on the patio. Excellent choice, value and quality. I hope not too many other people discover it!
