Have been coming here for over 30 years to celebrate family occasions and for evening meals. Food is always amazing and the staff are always very attentive. We went yesterday and it is no longer a set price menu (other than Sundays). Food is more expensive and portion sizes are a lot smaller - always loved the side dishes of vegetables which are nolonger provided. It was virtually empty for a Saturday evening (the bar was still busy though). Waiter was lovely - very efficient but there was just us eating. Disappointed if I am honest - food was still nice (but I don’t think I will go back) ☹️

Had a pleasant lunch to celebrate my sister’s 70th birthday. Unfortunately I was not aware of their parking requirements ie registration of your car in the car park. After having proved to “Smart Parking” that we did eat and drink there, they still upheld the fine. At no time did any member of staff check if we needed to register a car. Will never return again.

We booked the Seabank Suite at the Royal’s 1816 restaurant last month and I checked, double checked and triple checked that the room was wheelchair accessible with staff. It isn’t! The chair got stuck in the door of the Seanbank Suite. Our family member who’s the wheelchair user had to be helped to stand then held by a member of staff who was in the room, whilst the chair was quickly folded and moved into the room. They were vulnerable to falling and injury during this time and it was painful and undignified for them too.The period during the meal was clouded by anxiety about how they would egress in the event of a fire or similar incident and if they would fall leaving the room at the end of the meal. The table in the Seabank Suite is in three sections and we had to assist the server in moving the table across the room to allow the wheelchair to get under it. On leaving the Seabank Suite we had to ask a lady diner who was in the main dining area on the table by the door to move as the staff who had attended to us were now busy serving guests in the main dining area. She was really gracious but it was embarrassing and we shouldn’t have been put in that situation. The person who uses the wheelchair was then held by another family member again undignified and unsafe whilst we manoeuvred the chair out of the room. Whilst the hotel decor is lavish as are the prices the food is reasonable, I wouldn’t even say good

Went to the Royal for Sunday lunch with my family. It was not bust as we were eating late at 3:30. The food was OK but took a long time to arrive. The waitress who took our order in a timely manner but then we had to wait over half an hour for our food to arrive. Four roast dinners and two salmon. There were not enough vegetables to go around the 6 of us. I think there should have been another small platter as the couple at a table close to us had one between two whereas we had two between 6. There were three waiters on duty but none of them came over to check that everything was all right with the food. We had to call one of them over to have the dirty plates removed from our table having finished our meals about 20 minutes before. We were not approached during the meal to see whether we would like more drinks. Eventually my brother had to leave the restaurant and ho to the bar to order some. We had to ask to see the dessert menus which took some time to be brought. Three apple pies with custard were ordered again taking a long time to arrive despite the pies being cold although the custard was warm. We assumed from the length of tome taken to deliver the pies that yhey were being warmed in an oven. We asked for the bill which was not brought so finally we waved to the waiter we had asked who brought the payment machine over but no bill. The customer service apart from the waitress who took our order was abysmal.

Had a meal here to celebrate a 70th birthday- 28 of us! Could not praise it highly enough from initial enquiry to the day absolutely first class. Food was outstanding, nothing too much trouble - every member of staff was so helpful. I would recommend this place to everyone whether you just want a snack or a full on feed this is definitely the place to go.

We were a party of 14 showing our French friends a weekend in Liverpool. We booked the Royal Hotel for a traditional English Sunday lunch to follow a walk on the beach looking at the statues. The afternoon was a great success not least to the lunc at the hotel. The main course appeared at the same time for everyone ( although to be fair we had pre-ordered), it was tasteful and plentiful and the staff were accommodating and friendly. Would recommend - in fact am thinking of returning with Australian guests in the summer.

Decided to give the royal hotel a try for a roast dinner, as we had no kitchen for over 12 weeks due to my husband burning it down. So we had been around giving a lot of places a go and by chance give this place a go and what a delight. Proper vegetables nice roast potatoes homemade Yorkshire puds and lashings of gravy. The desserts we had blondie cheese cake and my husband had banana split and delicious. We are planning to come back again until our own kitchen is ready. All the staff were friendly and attentive

Booked afternoon tea with my very elderly mum. Reception and restaurant staff couldn't have been more helpful or solicitous for my mother's comfort. Everything was beautifully presented and in keeping with the ambiance of the hotel - starched white table linen, silver coffee pots etc. Sandwiches were very fresh and cake selection excellent. Couldn't fault anything, highly recommend.

The 2 waiters Pablo and Geoff could not be more attentive. The meal itself was excellent with giant superbly cooked portions. Great value for money we were a party of four celebrating a birthday and they provided a table for our cake and offered a cake knife to cut it should we want.

I love to complain and I love to praise where praise is due, from start to end this was a perfect dinning experience. We where greeted and promptly given a choice of a few tables, the staff esp the two senior staff where amazing, friendly and helpful. Its always nice to be provided with a jug of water without asking. the asparagus starters were delicious the fillet steak cooked to perfection, and the desert was delicious. The staff are a credit to the owners and gave a five star experience. We will return and will be booking a room very soon. Thanks for a lovely evening

Ate here for an early tea/dinner. friendly welcome from receptionist who took our deatils and led us through to the dining room and ensured we were happy with our table. The dinning room is a great traditional room with oak pannelling , whte table cloths and comfortable chairs. immediatley warm and welcoming. Good service was provided by Pablo and Carlos, care being taken to check we were happy with each dish. The menu though not extensive is quite varied with something for most pallets. Portions are generous and hearty appetites are catered for. Throughly enjoyable , will visit again.

This is our 2nd visit for Sunday lunch. The food was really good. However the service was very slow this time. We waited an hour for our main after having our starter. We were also sat next to the door. Which on a very cold day in December was not ideal. Every time the door opened there was a cold blast. We were a table of 5 the previous visit it was just 2 of us. So not sure if this is the reason the food took so long. As the Kitchen only looks small.

As some of my husbands family worked on the cheshire railways he enjoyed looking round all pictures on with walls. Kym and team do exactly what it says on the tin. Good flavour coffee, at a decent temperature, delicious home made type cakes/traybakes. Very efficient service. No hesitation in recommending.
