First time here and we loved the food. The set menu was tasty. Hubby had the crayfish to start and I had the curried potato and parsnip soup, both got full marks. The star of the show was the turkey main dinner. Gravy and roast potatoes were so tasty and the turkey was juicy, topped with a Yorkshire pudding. What is not to like. I managed to force myself to have the sticky toffee pudding, it had to be done. Just off the A1 so ideal for a stop for lunch or dinner.

Stayed here a couple of nights, so for convenience, decided to dine at the hotel so we could have a drink and then bed. So glad we did ;the food was excellent ! Nice couple of canapés in the bar with a glass and then through to the restaurant. Personally I would recommend eating upstairs as the ground floor level was a little soulless to be honest . I had the duck on the first evening , and the duo of pork on the following evening. Both were very good. Quite a decent wine list, and I can recommend the Californian Pinot Noir with the duck. We chilled it slightly in the white wine bucket, which improved it considerably.

The menu looked interesting which prompted us to book for dinner. Pub style classics such as fish and chips sat alongside more upmarket bistro fare such as pancetta wrapped pork. Clearly catering for a range of tastes. Reasonable wine list at good prices. Our wine was recommended by the waiter and was excellent. Our starters arrived and got the meal off to a good start. A delicious pea soup and a king prawn dish. The prawns were perhaps a little underwhelming and lacked seasoning but improved with a little salt and pepper. Our mains were lamb - well cooked and gently falling from the bone, and pork which would have benefitted from a little longer slow cooking. Again the seasoning lacked something which made us wonder if the chef had tasted the dish before sending it out. Sadly the meal was let down by undercooked veg. We did ask for them to be cooked a little longer and the very lovely staff took it back out to the chef. The beans returned only marginally better. True, we don’t like overcooked veg but these were only a couple of steps from raw. Not enough to put us off the meal, but disappointing nonetheless. The waiting staff were excellent - friendly and attentive.

Our first visit, yet we only live a short distance away. But it was so good, we return next week for more. We both chose the 6 course tasting menu and it was delicious and for fine dining it did not leave us hungry. The venue is lovely and extremely well decorated. The bar is good, serves cocktails and is a lovely relaxing space. We were seated in the restaurant up the stairs. Service was brilliant and all in all, it was well worth the £60 each, it really was. Back for Sunday lunch next week.

Called here for lunch and was not disappointed. Three of us had one each of the sandwiches available - red pepper and mozarella, seafood and chicken. Each came with salad, vegetable crisps and red cabbage coleslaw. All nicely presented and very tasy. Pleasant staff, lovely building, very impressed. Will definitely visit again.

Absolute fabulous Sunday lunch, served at the hotel. My wife and I wanted a lazy afternoon, the staff were fantastic, so accommodating you almost felt you at home. The manager who was very experienced, provided some suggestions to the menu and we were taken to a very nice part of the restaurant. The food, oh my God, I was not expecting such high quality food. The starter Was a crayfish and salmon salad, delicious sharp and fantastic with the suggested white wine. The wife had the goats cheese salad, with a slight hint of truffle, it was really delicious. We thought we were ahead of the game, until we saw the main courses. The wife had a cod loin, which was absolutely huge and cooked to perfection. Myself I had the roast beef, it was excellent lovely horseradish to go with it. £20 for three courses, will be back.
