Had dinner here with a friend while staying . I am sure the menu would be better in non covid days as it was a little limited . The food was well cooked and tasty , my friend had the fish and chips and loved it , I went for the Gammon , the steak was thin compared to other gammons I have had before but other than that a nice meal . Service was great from people that care

My partner and I are frequent visitors to the Wroxton House Hotel. I am a wheelchair and I have never had an issue with access. There is a ridge across the doorway, but there is also an accessible side door. I too have the Niçoise salad when visiting for lunch, and it is just that... A Niçoise salad! It is NOT a TUNA Niçoise salad, therefore no surprise that there wasn't any tuna in it! (Picture included of description on menu). I do feel that the review was an unfair one and the only reason I found out about it, was that I had recommended a friend to stay at the Wroxton and she showed me it. We have dined in the restaurant in the evening as well and the food has always been top notch! I would hate for anyone to miss out on this gem because of a 'ruffled' opinion.

We ate here in the evening because we were staying at the Wroxton House hotel. We were very impressed with the menu (we had the 3 course a la carte) and the quality and taste of the food, and all for what we considered a very reasonable price. The dining room is delightful and the restaurant is in a "chocolate box" village which is well worth a wander round beforehand.

This restaurant offers a good range of food, from general fair to high class. Can be a bit rushed but happy staff

To start with a disclaimer. I have lived next door to the Wroxton House Hotel / 1649 Restaurant for over 30 years. I have been there for events and 15 years ago my wife and I had our 25th Wedding anniversary there. However, in spite of being so close, I have not eaten in the restaurant in a long, long time, since the previous owners. A friend, also from Wroxton, and I did not want to drive so we "reluctantly" decided to eat in the 1649 so we could walk. What a wonderful surprise. The menu included both a very nice "pub" section as well as a proper dining menu. The wines were diverse and very reasonably priced. You can order ala carte or a two or three course fixed price. I had the venison "faggot" which was excellent as a starter and we both had the steak which was good as anywhere. Cooked as ordered with a very nice sauce. The service was spotless and the atmosphere second to none. After dinner we had drinks in the bar in very plush sofas and chairs and the drink prices were no higher than most pubs. I will be back again more often. Cannot believe this was sitting some 75 feet from my front door all these years! Best kept secret in the village!

Cute little LGBT bar/pub. I found out about this place through TikTok and visited during my travels to the UK. I unfortunately came during the week when not many people were there but was still very welcoming.

One of the best pubs in Oxford. Still a « proper » pub. Very friendly staff with landlord Jimmy at the helm , wide range of drinks, good food. Inside is warm, cosy, full of atmosphere, and a crackling fire to boot. Lovely mix of clientele. The large garden has been refreshed: loads of tables, outside bar, pretty garden, big screens for sporting events but never intrusive if you’re not interested. A gem of a pub.
