Was reading some of the bad reviews and I'm assuming they've confused Mr Fish with Renato's. I've still not come across better chips or batter than Renato's. Yes the place looks a little dated but I don't go in there for the f##king ambiance- I go in for a good bit of scran and never leave disappointed.

avoid at all costs, overpriced for the portions poor quality and just about everything is frozen, including the battered sausages and burgers ribs steaklets fish to, dont waste your money, i'm 56 and have to say this is the worse fish and chips ever had.i ordered fish and chips, battered burger supper and double cheeseburger. the fish was a frozen battered one kept breaking up because it was frozen fish batter was gloopy and thick not light and crispy, the battered burger was a frozen battered burger??? why??? your a chip shop why are you buying in rubbish prebattered thick batter items do them fresh with your own light airy batter most places get the sausages or burgers in front of you put them in batter in front of you then in the fryer. you dont even hide the fact you just kept going in the back or behind the counter and just produce a pre battered item, even my burger bun had to be microwaved.... have some pride in your food. when i ordered the double cheeseburger i expected a couple of gridled burgers like most places but no frozen burger that were over cooked due to being deep fried to long nd as hard as bullets, was asked if i wanted all the salad so said yes, one slice of tomato and one lettuce leaf nothing else. and dont even get me on the chips. reheated refried, so they tasted stale and were hard and you could taste the old grease on them, absolutely the worse chips ever. and such a tint portion too. curry sauce for a teeny pot was £2 same for the gravy, shocking you cant justify that. 23 quid i spent for the worse i have ever ever had. avoid at all costs.

We've recently moved to the town and wanted to try the fish and chips, how disappointing, the chips were okay but the fish batter was awful, thick and dense, soggy in the middle, no taste, a good batter should be flaky and airy to protect the fish, I will not be back.

Diners in Dingwall aren’t exactly spoiled for choice. This is the sort of sleepy town where ambition comes to die, and they leave the Christmas decorations up all year round. So I was reassured when I saw a queue of locals snaking out the door of this place, which was doing a roaring trade. Appearances can be deceptive. The chips were good, and the fish was cooked nicely, but the dense coating was more tempur mattress than tempura batter. A centimetre thick in places, it wasn’t fit for a dog. I picked it off and abandoned it. Just before I abandoned Dingwall: hopefully never to return.

Local to the area a short drive away. Been a customer for many many years with no issues and usually swear by the place, hadn't actually been for a few months as i hadn't been through that way and decided to stop in on a drive home to feed myself and kids while the husband went on a night out . Got home to open the food for my kids to complain there was only 2 nuggets in a kids meal (i won't get into it with the state of the chips I'll just leave a photo as it was dry and inedible) both boxes had the same so i phoned to find out if the portion had changed as i believed it to be more. Spoke to the same lassie who had served us and she confirmed there was to be 3 in the box and offered me to go through but had to be in 15mins as they were closing. I advised it wasn't possible as i live 10 mins away (and didn't say this but lets face it im not making a drive back for 2 nuggets, the call itself was more so i don't make the mistake of ordering again in future ) she then hummed over the phone to then say to me well im not sure what you want me to do, no 'im sorry that happened' or anything like it. Eyebrows raised at the tone she used I said oh ok, bye and hung up. Conversation done or so i thought and i didn't think it was unfair of me to note it since i didn't ask for anything back from them or verbally abuse the girl etc i was hardly trying to pull a fast one over 2 missing nuggets! the conversation was over quickly no squabble either side, figured this was the end of it obviously, nothing more to be said. 1 minute later i get a call back from the owner where he calls me a liar. He cooked it (true) and bagged it (lie! that he backed down on when i said not true) and 100% adamant there was definitely 3 there and he should know, taken aback that he would call me back over 2 nuggets to accuse me of lying where i haven't asked for anything back at all, i assured him there definitely was not and that both of my children could tell him this too.. He told me he doesn't need witnesses because he knows it. Clearly something went wrong between cooking and bagging but he stuck to his guns and kept repeating himself, i honestly could not believe the audacity of someone to call back a customer that had the food in front of them, which was most definitely not up to the usual standard i would normally associate them with just to call them a liar, zero need. He got shouted at down the phone by the end of the call and since he gave such a ridiculous call over something i let go off and is in my opinion not worth the argument he phoned to have, he got told what he was and told where he can go in a non polite manner and this is why this review is being written. Not because of 2 missing nuggets but very much because of his bad behaviour and ridiculous attitude towards a family that has spent alot of money at his establishment for many years! Disgusting and unnecessary! Obviously we will never be back and spreading the word to save people the trouble of dealing with this fool!

Four of us stopped off here whilst driving around the NC500 and to be truthful the fish and chips that we all had were not all that – we all found them a tad greasy. We all agreed that, after eating them, we wished we had visited a restaurant or pub and had some other meal. I wouldn’t really recommend the fish and chips from Renato’s (we have much better fish and chip shops in Leicester where we come from, which is quite surprising due to this fish and chip shop’s close location to the sea, so you would think that they would serve up first rate fish suppers, but not on this occasion).

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We are coming to the end of our holiday and rather than cook on the last night decided to get fish suppers. Our nearest fish and chip shop was closed so I looked in some reviews and found Renatos in Dingwall about 6 miles away. I arrived to find folk queuing outside the shop and others waiting inside. Obviously a popular place. When I ordered two fish suppers I moved back to join others waiting for their orders. Within 3 minutes I was served and that should have alerted me. When I got back home we opened the boxes to find battered fish so soggy it was like wet cardboard. When broken open the batter was uncooked and a sickly yellow colour. The chips were not properly cooked and many had blackened edges. All for the princely sum of £18,plus travel! Perhaps I'm cynical but it would appear that tourists are being taken for a ride by serving food that has been lying around for ages and or not kept at the right temperature. Needless to say the whole lot went in the bin apart from the actual fish which the dog ate! When you are on the NC500 surely you want to keep customers returning, not complaining, after all Scotland relies on tourism for much of its income. Making a fast buck by serving sub standard food is beyond greed and a sad reflection on the hospitality industry.

Visited this takeaway just now, Sunday 6pm. Staff that didn’t really want to be there said it all. The chips were reheated, the fish a weird orange tinge and just bitterly disappointing and overpriced. The oil they were cooked made the chips taste off? The fish was mushy and fell apart it had been cooked so much. I wish I’d got a bag of chips from Tesco and cooked them myself. Definitely would not recommend, will not return. Slow. Nasty and tasteless. Avoid with every being of your heart. The one down by the river is much better I can't recall the name but far tastier.
