Everything was perfect! The service was super friendly, the food – delicious, fresh and exciting, and even our cold-pressed juices were fantastic. We took two pastries to go and they were just as tasty. Such a vegan gem, so glad we found it 😊

Discovered the lovely Remedy Coffee Shop, a vegan gem in York! Their scrambled chickpea dish with sourdough bread was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend trying them. A must-visit for vegan foodies or anyone who wants to try yummy vegan dishes for a change.

So cute. Lovely staff and vibe. Had the cronut and a coffee, both delish. My partner said it’s the best cappuccino he’s had in a very long time and he’s a coffee snob so points for that!

Lovely place, lovely staff, lovely food!! I would definitely recommend it to all, even if you're trying something new if you're not typically vegan/veggie. I love the other ethical aspects too, like using reusable napkins, and second hand plates/mugs. Ate the (delicious and beautiful) chickpea scramble and mushroom sarnie.

Had brunch in this cafe yesterday and it was the best vegan brunch that I've ever had. Scrumptious french toast with poached pears. Staff are so friendly and there is a lovely, relaxed atmosphere in this cute cafe.

So glad we found this place. The most delicious vegan food, and the kind of thing I like to make at home but so rarely find out (panfried Brussels sprouts on toast for example - sublime). We visited twice, the first time we were served by the loveliest, happiest guy, who immediately complimented my husband on his deck jacket (which made his day). Really varied menu and very delicious. Their commitment to reusing, recycling, composting etc is wonderful to see, too. Seek it out!

Stopped here by chance and had a great cup of coffee. Really interesting to read all the green, energy saving, recycling and vegan processes they have. Cafe is small but quaint and importantly the coffee was very good.

I like to think I’m a regular at Remedy now, a place I genuinely adore in the city. Coffee is top notch, the food is spectacular, wine, vibes, everything, couldn’t be better. Chris and the team have done a great job and I always feel at home when going in. Wholeheartedly recommend to everyone in York and those coming to visit, just wish I could be in more, best thing is, it’s all guilt-free, their social and environmental impacts could well be the best in York (don’t quote me on that), so not only do I feel at home in there, I feel good. Go to Remedy, please.

Perfect vegan cafe! Excellent food, lots of variety on the menu and I believe they're always trying new things. Came here with my partner and he had the French toast, which came with ice cream and poached pears. It was a large serving - great for breakfast! I had the chickpea scramble, which was more like a chunky soup but delicious all the same. It came with the best sourdough bread I've ever tasted, I would have eaten a whole loaf of it. Coffee was really nice, service was friendly and welcoming. We took some chocolate chip cookies to go and they were so sweet and tasty. There's lots of eco-signage around but they weren't pushy or preachy at all. Booking is advised as it's a very small place and it gets busy at peak times. It's dog friendly!

It's a small, popular cafe, which makes it lovely and cozy, but it sometimes means it's difficult to get a seat (especially during peak times). I'd definitely recommend getting here earlier in the day to ensure you have the opportunity to try this gem of a cafe and fill up on delicious vegan goods ✨

Great place with the BEST coffee for miles. We ordered the pancakes and we realised too late we didn't have time to eat them as we had an appointment. They kindly packed them for us and even gave us an actual fork to take away which is now a cherished souvenir from York. Thank you again!

Soon as you walk in, you're greeted with the smell of great food and a smile. The coffee was absolutely lovely, and we were told about its source. The food was fantastic! We had the brunch menu. GF options available too. Cannot recommend enough.

Don't be afraid - this place might be entirely plant-based but I promise you'll find some of the best food in York, as well as great coffee. I've been coming to Remedy for a couple of years and have never had a bad experience. Their coffee is great and their service is always really prompt and friendly. It's only a little place so it can fill up quickly, but there's a good reason for that - it honestly blows the competition out of the water. Bonus points for being both dog- and planet-friendly.

An absolute gem. We weren't expecting to find this place and we are very glad we did. We felt very welcomed by the staff who were so friendly, and you can see there is passion and care put into this place. The kitchen is open and set back from the counter, meaning you can see and smell everything being made, which gives it a more homely feel. The food was delicious and unique - not just your typical veggie/vegan fry-up. The flavours were unlike any cafe breakfast we have had. Can't recommend this place enough. Cosy cafe! Perfect for brunch. The pancakes were amazing 🥞 The pancakes themselves had a delicious gingerbread flavour, and they were perfectly balanced with the creamy was of the ice cream and the sweetness of the poached, and then baked, plums. Finished with a sprinkle of crushed walnuts. They were wholesome and also felt like a treat. Very reasonable price for the quality of the food. The Remedy breakfast was so flavoursome and delicious, I asked for one in my lunchbox to have for dinner. The staff were very friendly and nice.

Remedy Coffee Shop is an absolute treasure in York! As a 100% plant-based café, they’ve mastered the art of delicious, wholesome food. I ordered the French toast, and I’ve never had French toast served with ice cream before. What surprised me the most was that, despite the vegan ice cream, it made the French toast the best I’ve ever had. The combination was heavenly! The carrot turmeric ginger drink was so good that I ordered a second one. I’m not usually one to order juice, so that’s saying a lot. The chickpea scramble was creamy, flavorful, and satisfying. Others in my group tried the remedy, porridge, and pancakes, and they couldn’t stop talking about how delicious everything was. When we left, we all felt satisfied, invigorated, and energized. The staff were amiable and welcoming, making the entire experience even better. Remedy Coffee Shop is a must-visit for anyone looking for excellent plant-based food in York!

My favourite place in York! I take absolutely anyone I can here as it is perfect for everyone, whether you’re craving sweet or savoury there’s always something. Everyone there is super lovely and clearly very passionate about they are doing!

Delicious vegan lunch and really friendly staff

Amazing locally sourced vegan menu! The guy here is the perfect host, made us feel so welcome explained the menu and how they aim to help the planet whilst providing awesome food and drinks! We had the French toast and full breakfast (all vegan) the matcha strawberry latte and flat white, all amazing and fresh!

Stumbled in here for a quick coffee and ended up ordering the miso mushrooms on sourdough because the lady next to me ordered them and they looked and smelled amazing - I was blown away!! The loveliest staff and coziest cafe, will definitely be back to try some other things on the menu :)

Maybe the best coffee in York? I was recommended this place by someone in the coffee industry who told me it was better than my previous favourite York Coffee Shop (which is also on the same street). I've been in 3 or 4 times now and the Coffee is consistently fantastic. I tried The Remedy breakfast on my last visit. I'm not vegan but when food is as tasty as this maybe I should be! Absolutely fantastic!

After wanting to try here for so long I finally popped in with my partner for a quick lunch, left feeling full and happy! The menu was explained thoroughly inc items they didn't have in. Staff were really smiley and knowledgeable, all food was cooked pretty much in front of you. Highly recommend! Absolutely love what you guy do, keep doing it!! 👏

Stumbled on this place for veggie breakfast and it was brilliant! Flat white was one of the best I’ve had and delicious mushrooms on toast and chickpeas with sourdough! Well priced, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere - will come again!

I visited Remedy alone on Sunday morning. It’s such a nice café along the street with a variety of food on the menu for breakfast and brunch. However, the girl who took my order and served my food wasn’t very welcoming. I don’t know the reason why she treated me that way. Was it because I am a foreigner? Or was she too busy preparing for the rush? Anyway, the man who seems to be the owner was energetic and kind to everyone. I hope the café continues to develop.

We always visit here for our team meetings. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. Our team always love their food. Me and my partner always get one savoury and one sweet brekkie dish to share 💯👌 Team Herbi : )

Have the best breakfast today from the day of landing to UK, which is 10 days now. The food is wholesome, nutritious and full of flavour! What impresses me even more is the owner really stands behind what he believes of zero waste, never have the cutlery put on a towel instead of napkins. What’s more is they have fully eatable composable coffee cup, unfortunately only come with 1 size with no lid atm, which made some customers not willing to buy as a take away, the staff is still happy and totally understand. These days, very hard to find shops which stand on principle instead of profit making as the objective. Highly recommend if you come to York and looking for a place for breakfast!

A favourite of mine in York. Serves delicious, fresh, seasonal produce at a very reasonable price. Things I've especially enjoyed in the past: the chickpea scramble (I need to figure how they make the chickpeas taste so creamy), the ohh so satisfying porridge, and the coffee (paired with a tasty treat if it's on the counter 😅).

This café is amazing. Really friendly and helpful service, great coffee, proper tasty vegan food. The breakfast that we had was their full Remedy breakfast. All the things on the plate tasted great, and there was no fake meat! Tasty sourdough, smothered in the best vegan soft cheese I have ever tasted! Next time I'm in York I'll be heading straight back here.

On arrival the decor and place appeared lovely and cosy. It was recommended high up on the list for independent coffee shops on Google to visit in York. We just wanted a quick coffee. We were asked to leave as we had left over pizza in a box that contained animal products in and they didn’t want any ‘meat’ inside. We weren’t going to eat the pizza. We didn’t want to waste the food we bought and someone had kindly prepared. I would have covered it up with my coat and bag. We wouldn’t have been disrespectful as we knew you served food. This was disheartening, we just wanted a quick coffee, in a chilled atmosphere before leaving York. In today’s society there would be up roar if someone asked if a pizza, in a box was vegan and asked to leave because the coffee shops sells charcuterie boards. Do all your customers get questioned over their make up choices that maybe not be vegan products? Clothes made with real leather they may be wearing? People carry medicine, make up products and creams in their bags that may not be vegan. Are these checked for animal products before service? What if someone had a chicken and bacon pasta pot in their bag? Sincerely admire your passion for change. Shame it lacked the inclusivity. We respected your choice and left.

Our breakfasts were a bit different to the ordinary 'vegan full English', so that was nice. The atmosphere and feel of the place is lovely and the owner(?) was really nice and so friendly. The ethos of the cafe is superb. Zero waste, nothing to landfill, as Eco as it gets! The only criticism is that the Remedy big breakfast arrived already pretty cold. The flavours were great, the presentation awesome, but please, heat up the plates before serving. They were stone cold. We were hoping for a great coffee (having read the reviews). We visited York for 2 nights, 3 days and didn't manage a decent coffee during our entire stay, so our criticism here isn't reserved just for this cafe. Is the coffee in York just weak or does everyone just prefer tea? 🙄 Support Remedy and give them a visit. They're doing a lot of really great things.

An EASY 5⭐️ Experience! We booked a table on a rainy Sunday for breakfast and received a warm welcome with a full explanation of the menu. Coffees & food were exceptional… when you visit a vegan joint and don’t wish your plate had meat on it, you know they’ve figured out the plant-based game. Remedy Coffee Shop is rebelliously vegan, supports local makers, sources local ingredients, and staff may throw in a cheesy joke or two for friendly guests. Will visit again (and so should you!).

Everything here was spot on. Cute crockery, fair prices and friendly staff. The pear banana-esq bread was gorgeous - not too sweet, which makes a change in the U.K. for cakes. We also really enjoyed the oat cappuccino and vegan cheese sourdough drizzled in chilli oil. Perfect little brunch.

Booked a table for Saturday lunch as we’ve wanted to try here for ages, were promptly sat and service was very warm, friendly and informative! My girlfriend had a flat white and I had a fresh apple juice, both fantastic. Must’ve juiced the apples about five seconds prior it was so fresh. My girlfriend went for the pancakes and I went for the charred oyster mushroom sandwich. Mine was actually lion’s mane and was missing chimmicurri but still delicious. Overheard a server telling another table it wasn’t oyster mushrooms and then that they’d sold out so guess that was why. Didn’t want to complain as it had already (understandably) been a decent wait, but would’ve been nice to be told if what I ordered wasn’t available as I would’ve happily had something else, all looked fantastic. Nice place and would happily return! Nice touch to have produce on the specials that the owner has foraged himself.

Asked the barista if it was real milk. Upon finding out its not I politely said ah no thanks. As we left he shouted after us "we don't kill anything to make our coffee". Thought this was a bit weird, aggressive and argumentative.

Had a brilliant lunch here with my partner and our baby. Not the biggest cafe but they were happy to make space for our push chair. Food and drinks were all excellent and clearly made by people who care about what they’re serving. The folks who work here were all knowledgeable and friendly and the service was great. We’ll definitely be back.

What a great find! If you want to avoid the chain coffee stores and restaurants then head onto Walmgate and Fossgate where you will be sure to find some hidden gems like Remedy. Remedy is a small, intimate venue with solid wooden tables and a mix of benches and chairs. There is no cow milk! It’s so lovely to be able to buy a coffee and have a choice of non-dairy milks. I went in for just an oatmilk latte but was seduced by the flapjack so had a piece of this too - delicious! I will definitely have Remedy on my list of go-to coffee shops for future visits; the menu offered lots of tasty meals, the coffee was great and the staff were lovely. Highly recommended!

Lovely place, stumbled across it when going past. We were looking for some tea and pudding and it didn't disappoint!

Our order was all mixed up. I ordered a cake that never came but was charged for it. Coffee is terrible, so is everything else, dull and tasteless. Seats are hard, small and cluttered.

We entered remedy for a coffee because it was the only place open past 17:30, ended up staying for 5 hours and ended up accidentally spending about £100 on their gorgeous wine and food. Was in York for 3 days and this place was our top highlight, I've never had bread and hummus so tasty and the roasted artichokes were far beyond what I expected from a place I just wanted a coffee from. The staff are very kind and recommended some great stuff. Also, brilliant atmosphere and decor!

Brilliant little coffee shop. Stumbled on this one with my mum after one too many ciders and in need of a caffeine hit whilst we were waiting for a late evening dinner booking nearby on Fossgate. Met Jared, excellent guy who admitted they were supposed to stop serving coffee after a certain time due to the location working on promoting a wine bar service (it was around 8-9pm) but it was the first location for coffee that had come up on Google and I needed both the caffeine and a bathroom for 2 minutes while I got my sense and senses back. Jared was kind enough to let us in and had my first ever black coffee here in the most adorable little cup imaginable. My mum had a glass of wine and we had an excellent chat with Jared about the shop and our trip. We found out about the shop's ethos and the brillant story behind how the shop tries to ethically source its coffee direct from South America via boat and even gets photo updates from the middle of the Atlantic ocean about the ship's progress. Will absolutely be visiting again next time I visit York (hopefully during daylight hours and delightfully sober) and have made sure to let everyone in my circles know about this one ❤

We came here for the first time on a very busy half term day! We were able to book a table for a little later and we are very glad we waited. A very cute cafe that has its own character and serves deliciously wholesome food. I came here for my birthday and was not dissapointed.

Popped in on a recommendation for a coffee and a cake. It is a small intimate cafe just away from Parliament Street and the main shopping area. We got the last two seats. The furniture is recycled, as is the crockery. Everything is vegan. The cakes and coffee were fabulous. The service was just as good. Laptops etc are not allowed on a weekend and booking is recommended. It would of been 5 stars except for the furniture.
