Reliance,The in Hackney

I've been coming here once a month for the past few months but always bought alcohol. Tonight I bought a glass of soda water and a pint. The pint was £5.90 but the soda water was £3.50!!!!! Most places don't even charge for soda water. I'll not be back

Lovely atmosphere and the staff to go with it! Will definitely be visiting here with my friends again!

We went as a group for afternoon drinks. Great pub and good selection of beers and frinidly staff. Comfrortably sofas and fire at the back.

Good range of interesting beers with a number of local ones. Nice surroundings and very personable attentive landlord. Excellent place to watch the world go by.

We ordered espresso martinis which were not very good. The barman seemed very irritated by the fact that we said we going to go to a new bar. To make matters worse the manager told my friend, who is queer, that she is “loco” and told her that she should change the way she behaves if she wanted to be accepted in other places. He was in general very homophobic, and rude. If I could give this place a zero I would. I recommend that everyone boycotts it.

Didn’t think it would be possible to f__k up nachos so here’s a photo to prove it! At £7.00 it was the cheapest thing to eat (just a well I wasn’t hungry) with a with a £7.00 glass of rubbish rioja!

In my previous review for this restaurant I gave it only four stars when I meant to give it five. I blame on screen keyboards and my light touch. This is the tops for fish and chips.

The food here is great as are the drinks, simply delicious! The staff are lovely and the venue is beautiful.

Although it looks like an old traditional pub, apparently it is a relatively modern conversion of a former shop. If so, the transformation has been well done and The Reliance feels like it has been here for ever, not least because of the rickety wooden staircase that runs up the side of the building from the side door and toilets at the bottom to the top floor which, unusually, houses one of London’s most interesting art galleries. When the current coronavirus crisis is over and we all re-examine lessons learnt about that might change the way that we do things in the future, art galleries and pubs will both be looking at the cost of physical premises with their high rental costs and business rates. Partnerships such as the one here may become more frequent. There is something surreal about visiting a pub when it is not full of customers as you wander through the empty bar spaces to reach Charlie Smith London, the art gallery at the top floo, which, until the recent closures due to coronavirus across the UK, was host to Hugh Mendes and ‘Autorretrato: The Female Gaze’. Having looked at the menu, I have to admit that it is very tempting to return when the pub is busier and enjoy a drink here. As with other art galleries, Charlie Smith has embraced the digital world for its next exhibition, until the world returns to some form of normality.

I have drank that this bar for many years but when myself and a group of friends went there for a work Christmas party to join the rest of our colleagues we were turned away by the bouncer who refused us entry solely because the people I was with were of a different ethnicity. He was happy for me to enter as I was a white male but not the people I was with. After speaking with the bar manager who was very helpful, he then agreed to allow us entry, but the bouncer still refused our custom regardless that we had colleagues in the bar and that the manger was happy for us to enter. Whilst this was happening 20 potential customers changed their minds about entering the bar because of the the altercation. I would strongly encourage people to avoid this bar in the future. What didn’t make sense was that the bouncer himself was the same ethnicity as my friends.

Ordered nachos. Server couldn't be bothered to check with kitchen if chili con carne had run out and kitchen told us to ask downstairs. Then nachos came and were covered with humous and Baba ganoush and pickles. Don't fall for the fake nachos!

This is a go-to pub for my friends and I. It's quirky and in an easy to get to part of town. Loads of different drinks on offer.

Me and my partner reserved an area for about 40 people so that we could say goodbye to our friends and family as we’re going away for a year and wanted to do this in a place with a great atmosphere, food and good location. We had never been to The Reliance and booked purely on the basis of the location, accommodating booking process and a prior recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed and were in fact pleasantly surprised by the lovely atmosphere, friendly staff (including upbeat doormen) and incredible food! The music was great too. Finally, we are so grateful for also being allowed to serve our own cake - a couple friends had bought us this as a gift so we were not aware that this would happen and were very thankful that you guys allowed us to have this out for our guests to enjoy. We will definitely be recommending the pub and look forward to visiting again soon.

We had a magic night last week, hanging out with other customers. Z, the awesome bartender-DJ-multitask guy, should get a raise in his payment check! You definitely need to go to this place if in Shoreditch!

Vi nåede at besøge stedet flere gange - med børn. Betjeningen var hurtig og venlig. Maden kunne dog være bedre.

Met up with friends before returning to Spain. Not an extensive menu but that is good if you like burgers and meat then come here.service good polite team members food hot and tasty. We all had a good meal and a beer . Thanks when I’m in the area again I will return.

I really enjoyed my visit at reliance, Giovanni is a friendly and really expert bartender. He even cooled down the glass before serving me a prosecco

Very nice pub, with a great selection of beer, well recommended, food is lovely too👍👌 I had the mezze platter, it was really nice and my friend had fish and Chips, so fresh and nice too.

Buena música y buen ambiente, así que pedimos papas halloumi y hummus con pan. Éramos 3 y pasamos el día juntos, comiendo lo mismo, excepto que solo yo y otro amigo comimos los bocadillos. Nos sentimos enfermos y tuvimos una noche horrible. El amigo que no comió esto estaba bien. Todos teníamos 2 cervezas cada uno, así que tampoco era del alcohol. Yo sugeriría que los chefs revisen las salsas, el aceite para freír, sea lo que sea.

Who needs the Falafel king when you have REAL Lebanese, home cooked food here! Honestly...I'm the fussiest person I know and the food is incredible!

My Partner and I were drinking here with our friend last night. The drinks are decently priced and the music is good, seems like a nice place to hang out, unfortunately the gentleman behind the bar in the “Cali” top really needs to calm down and realise that it’s not appropriate to shout in guest faces. Last order had been rang, firstly when my friend tried to buy me a large glass of wine he didn’t want to sell us a large but a small, not sure why? Also their pints were not filled to the top either, all of this is forgivable. So the second bell rings, we finish our drinks and i got the bathroom before we leave. As I’m walking back to my seat the barman says “you need to leave” so I say “we’ve finished our drinks we’re going now”’he then decides to shout in my face “YOU NEED TO LEAVE NOW GUYS” excuse me ? Why are you employing staff who think it’s ok to shout at people, he went from 1-100 in a matter of seconds. Maybe some anger management classes may be in order, and like I said last night, we work in hospitality as well so we get it, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Apareció aquí para una bebida rápida y una hamburguesa. El servicio fue bastante rápido y la comida era muy buena. Sin embargo, mientras la hamburguesa estaba perfectamente preparada, tenía un poco de mayonesa. Además, las cuñas de patata también fueron más bien en el lado gigante. En general, un buen ambiente y vale la pena una visita.

Fue un agradable pub a la vuelta de la esquina y a unas pocas manzanas desde el Holiday Inn Express en Shorditch y cerca de la estación de metro Old Street. La comida era realmente buena que tenía unas pocas mesas y un sofá para sentarse y disfrutar de unas copas o una comida. En general, un pequeño pub para rato. Paré aquí un sábado por la tarde para tomar un par de cervezas. La música (discos) fue excelente. El ambiente acogedor y el servicio eran ambos. Aunque no coma, comprobé que el menú parecía bueno. Sin duda de mi visita. Volví el domingo, pero por desgracia no estaba abierto.

Entered this boozer and a pal ordered a round. My Guinness was clearly poured hours ago and topped up. At these prices this is not acceptable. Apart from that seems like a decent pub. Apart from the kiss100 playlist.

Fui a Reliance otra vez, el fin de semana pasado para la fiesta de cumpleaños de mi amigo, el lugar es muy bonito y bien cuidado, el ambiente es genial, mucha gente agradable, el gerente Mr Mario es un tipo realmente agradable, amable y educado, realmente hace cualquier cosa para mantener a todos sus clientes muy contentos y cuidar muy bien el lugar.

We came here on Saturday this place has a really nice atmosphere might have something to do with some great old tunes on the FREE jukebox we were only going to pop in for 1 but ended up staying for 4 or 5 we didn't eat but the food coming out look very good this is a proper pub no gimmicks just good beer and great music

Boozer Chic con un personal estupendo bar y variedad de cerveza/lager. Gratis de la vieja escuela (flip las páginas) jukebox fue lo más destacado.

Nice place to have a drink. Bar staff pleasant. Drinks reasonable for London. Also have and upstairs area with more seating. No food on Sunday afternoon though.

We were on business for 8 nights in London and spent a couple of them here. It's a really friendly, lively place with great food and atmosphere.The food is well presented and surprisingly good quality- it's great value considering it's location and we couldn't fault it.Really good selection of beers , so would thoroughly recommend. We were staying in the Montcalm up the road, so it was nice to find such a great alternative to the stuffy and rather stilted atmosphere of the hotel bar close by!

Sehr empfehlenswert für ein Bierchen am späten Nachmittag/frühen Abend - Tisch an der Old Street Strassenfront wählen und die hektischen Städter beobachten. Sehr sympathischer Service. Das Reliance ist ein Klassiker, den es bereits seit gefühlten Ewigkeiten gibt.

I visited Shoreditch on 21st March 2016 and wanted to find a relaxing place to eat and drink.The Reliance was inviting and with lovely Ambiance, great food, good value too. Lovely decor, lots of choice of food and drinkI went for The falafel burger and potato wedges, with a pint of Sambrook Ale....followed by two more pints of "ordinary"Bill was just over £20 and service was fantastic, the bar being ably run by the staff that nightMenu caters for ALL tastes, you won't be disappointed.

Great little spot to grab a pint and a snack. Good selection of beer. We tried the calamari, which was cooked nicely.

Good spot for after work drinks - the music is really good, the house wine was nice and the staff friendly. Will be returning

Used to go here all the time, went back recently to relive old times. While the pub itself looks exactly the same, prices have gone through the roof and the chilled clientele has becoming the archetypal Shoreditch audience of Essex day trippers. Was a weird vibe

It's a busy Friday and I can't see the front of the bar because it is thronging with punters. So I go to the end of the bar to order two pints and politely ask what beers do they have. I am told "go look for yourself. Customer service deficit? Thoroughly rude. Didn't order. What a pretentious place.

Spent several hours propping up the bar with a friend. Then got some racist abuse from an Essex wide boy. The bouncer said it was best that we leave to avoid any trouble! Don't go unless you want to get abused. Merry Christmas "Reliance".

Waited 45 mins for a really foul burger, much worse than kebab shops and extremely overpriced. No apologies from staff who were very rude.

The meal was very reasonably priced but only so-so. There were a few vegetarian options. The service was a little slow, with two members of our party waiting a long time for their mains. It was busy, we were late and we were a large group so we weren't unhappy enough to complain. Nice surroundings, with a simple, funky feel. Populated by a twenty/thirty something 'creative' crowd.

Was staying with a friend near by and wandered into this place one night. Nice relaxed atmosphere, good selection of beer and a free juke box with some great music on it. Does range of bar snacks but kitchen closed by time we went.

I really like this two-floor pub on Old Street. Great atmosphere.
