Regent in St Albans

Haven’t been for ages. Won’t be going again. Chaotic ordering process, waited far longer than necessary, and food was not good at all. Avoid.

Please avoid 🤢 Absolutely vile food, “ shredded chicken “ wasn’t even chicken it was just batter no meat whatsoever, the taste was off! But the worst thing is the was long black hair in the sauce and “chicken”. Egg fried rice looked and felt like plastic instead of egg! £40 gone down the drain and unfortunately we will never order from here again!!! ROTTEN

REALLY gone downhill with the new owners. Prices have skyrocketed, and quality has dropped. Had beef chow mein that was dripping in so much oil it was all you could taste, went straight in the bin. Other dishes were also greasy and tasteless, but the chow mein was the worst I'd ever had. Won't be back.

Best Chinese takeaway in the surrounding area all supplied in traditional folding boxes.Only takeaway I know does water chestnuts on menu A1

For 30 years we've been enjoying eating from The Regent, many times each year and didn't know they'd changed till tonight. We ordered our usual and oh my goodness, it was awful. The Spare Ribs had no sauce, what little meat there was on the bones was dry like jerky but it was mostly bones, fat and gristle. My husband's meal was disappointing, the vegetables were bordering on uncooked and there was little taste. Considering we spent £16.50 with no sides, it was a waste of money. We will never eat there again, so sad when it's been our go-to place just down the road from us.

I didn't realise there were new owners, but have to agree with other reviews. The prices have shot up and the quality dropped. Real shame, we won't be back.

The food taste is excellent with good portion worth for money.

Like others have noted after recent ownership change. Prices increased by 10% . Portions reduced by probably 20% and spare ribs while I would hope would be crispy, were charcoaled. Appalling decline in overall quality. New owners should heed the opinions of their customers and change your ways posthaste. Get back to a quality business, not your current rip off business model. I would have emailed this for your privacy , but no email. Just a phone number , which will be answered by your desk staff,who shouldn’t be used by you as a buffer screen for complaints. There are other and better Chinese takeaways available. And after all this you won’t pay for card payment , so still CASH only. Very short sighted..

Was good sized portions, of well cooked very tasty food. Best Chinese we’ve tried in the area. Everything was excellent. Nice to see some of packing materials are not plastic. Highly recommend.

I've been buying from this place for 2 years but today might have been the last day as the quality of food has been plummeting despite a recent rise in prices. My favourite salt and pepper squid is in fact an onion crispy batter with remains of a overrdied squid. China Town in London makes the same dish far better and cheaper. Chicken balks have been growing in size due to batter but greatly losing in flavour. Sweet and sour sauce is just a jelly like coloured substance. The service has been great but for takeaway it is food that matters. Hence 1 star for food.

Unfortunately the Regent changed owners recently and just about everything has declined. Significantly more expensive, smaller portions and lower quality food. Not worth the sit-down posh prices for these child-sized portions of barely mediocre food.

Having been using the Regent for many years we gave it a try with new owners . High prices / low quality food, not a touch on when Mia was in charge . Will not return .

Not quite up to pre covid days but that could also be our taste buds, generous portions, still quite tasty and good service x

We had a lovely takeaway from the Regent this evening. It was really fresh, not at all greasy or salty, unlike some we have had recently from other places. Highly recommended.

Been coming here for years, one of the best Chinese takeaways local to me.

First time and last time that I will get a take away from the Regent. It was cold when I got it home 5 minuets after collecting it, So had to put it in the microwave. And it was generally tasteless the batter was soggy egg fried rice stodgy.

Love their Banquet on a special night with friends, struggle to keep up with their price rises though.

I have just moved to Redbourn, and this is nearer than my usual chinese (Chinese Express) after a recommendation i decided to try. They dont deliver so it was a pick up only. It was expensive , 7 dishes including rices £35.60, we all had what we usually have . I could taste the thickener in my main dish, RANK, AVOID!!

There are better Chinese takeaways in the larger are (although my family disagrees) but this is the only one in Southdown. Food is fine, service is quick and staff are always really friendly.
