Atesh in St Albans

Can’t believe it has taken us so long to visit Atesh. We stupidly believed some reviews going around that didn’t put Atesh in the best light but I’m pleased to say in the end we decided to be our own judges, so gave it a try on Saturday. It was great, the waiter and waitress were very attentive, the drinks and food were lovely. My husband and I started with a Margarita- delicious! We then all shared the cold mezzo to start, which we all devoured! Then followed by a sharing platter main for 4-5 people and it would definitely feed 5, we were 4. The meat was tender and salad lovely fresh and crisp. All washed down with some nice red Primitivo wine. I’d highly recommend people to give it a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The restaurant is immaculate and the seating well spaced out for privacy.Staff are very welcoming, efficient and friendly. The bread and dips were delicious. Wine is well priced Portions are generous, chicken kebab moist and tender and my salad was very fresh. My husband ordered the wrong thing and when staff saw him looking confused changed the dish very quickly. Would recommend.

Recommended to this restaurant by friends we were quite looking forward to the visit. The decor is very nicely done and the seating is spacious and comfortable though we did find the menu a little bit sparce and frankly over priced for the selection along with the wine menu ,which had a good selection though top end at 70 to 80 pounds....really and a Chillian merlot at 28 pounds ? Though the wings i had were very nice(a finger bowl would have been handy) my wifes lamb was tough and rice lumpy. Overall a bit of an over priced disappointment , we shall not be going back for a second try unfortunately.

Really great evening. Wonderful food and lovely staff. The calamari are stupendous, very different! I had moussaka which came with a really delicious interesting salad. Definitely try the pink fizz, it went perfectly with everything. Very empty on a Friday night which is a shame. We got a free baklava! Highly recommended if you live in Harpy and haven't tried it yet. I was extremely dubious due to the terrible reviews, but honestly, it's well worth a visit. Bill for four £222 including service and we had a LOT of booze! xxx

we came on friday and it was really amazing , the atmosphere was nice and the food was fresh and delicious . the service was absolutely great they took really good care of us . we are definitely here now

We were exicted to visit this restaurant. Assured they could cater for Coeliacs. Upon arrival, spoke to waiter and management and were assured the Chef would take the upmost care with our food ensuring no cross contamination or Gluten in food. Our mixed shish was served on a layer of bread :-( Whilst this was being addressed we began to eat the Greek Salad, only to find at the bottom of it all crisped bread. I took the salad to the kitchen myself where I was met by two unhygenic looking chefs whom had no idea of the issues that are caused when giving gluten to a Coeliac. Not only was this poor, the service was slow and others in our party had over cooked meat. We were not offered any discount, not have management answered my emails. Very sad as we wanted to like this lovely looking restaurant. Sadly will not re-vist

From the outside this restaurant looks lovely. However upon closer inspection there is no common theme. The drinks come in lovely crystal glasses. The servers are attentive and polite. However, that’s where it ends. The food is mediocre at best. The menus are what would be better placed in an American diner. Big A4 plastic covered, you get the gist. For the prices being charged, the food quality is insulting. The singer was good, and there needed some noise in what was a half empty restaurant on a Saturday evening. They really need to do better. Shame I really wanted to like this place.

Had dinner here for the first time last Saturday night . Restaurant is modern and nicely decorated . Staff are very pleasant and attentive . We were served quickly . Plenty of different dishes to select from the menu . Food was fantastic . I will definitely be back again and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends thanks for everything ateshgrillxbar

Booked this restaurant on the basis they had a singer/ entertainment as advertised, even phoned to check. Turned up to average overpriced food and No entertainment, poor excuse. We all left by 10pm - never again.

We used to visit Atesh all of the time when they had the live singers and used to have such amazing nights. We know more recently they have been listening to the feedback of some customers who have been complaining it is too loud! My opinion is if its too loud go and book your dinner at 6pm and let the rest of us enjoy the night singing/dancing with the live entertainment. Its clear there are a lot less customers on a Saturday night due to the lack of singer! Our advice bring back the atmosphere and ignore the boring people!

Very comfortable, spacious restaurant in the heart of Harpenden. Very friendly and welcoming service, and a great choice of well presented contemporary Turkish grill. Decent wine list, and a 2 for 1 cocktail happy hour make this a great place for a family celebration.
