Food average but very small portions. A rip off at £6.50 for small jacket potato and 2 small topping. I don't recommend it

Our coffee and cake routine took us to the cafe at Attenborough Nature Reserve. The coffee and cake were good - the bonus comes with the wonderful views from the cafe across the nature reserve. I should point out that the parking fee is £3, which is still applied for old codgers (that's us) with a blue badge.

The food and coffee, very nice! Vegan chilli was especially good. The only fault was the rolling menu on the wall. If you didn't choose quickly you had to wait until it rolled back round. It was like being at the coach station! Woman behind the counter said people take a photo of it, and then look on their phone. No! I'd rather look at the proper menu on the wall.

Visited the cafe on Sunday with mother in law . Husband walked on ahead as we know from experience that the service is slow , queues quickly build up . This was a wise move ... yes there was quite a queue when he got there . We had to sit inside as there weren't any free or clean tables outside . There were quite a few dirty tables inside , I know they prefer people to take their pots back but obviously they aren't so please employ more staff and keep the tables clear . My main issue was with people bringing dogs into the cafe , I thought they were only allowed on the balcony? One bloke had left his pooch on the balcony, not on a lead and it repeatedly came back in , trying to lift his leg on the boxes of crisps and snacks by the door , he shooed it out over and over . Added to this was 2 dogs leaving the balcony , on leads but straining to get at the 2 dogs by the door ! Surely as they serve food no dogs should be allowed inside?

Lovely place very relaxing, after walking for 2 hours and needing the toilet we decided to stop at the cafe and order a takeaway coffees. Staff were pretty miserable .... on entering the building we were TOLD abruptly to fill in the ‘track and trace’. Given our coffees without offering us sugars/sweeteners/stirrers had to wait until they had finished on the barrister machine before feeling brave enough to ask as they seemed annoyed and unapproachable. Asked to use to the toilet but was told rudely we wasn’t allowed because of Covid, strange because other takeaway coffee shops have useable toilet facilities! Thankfully plenty of bushes to hide behind!!

Our waitress, I remarked to my wife must be brain dead. Taking our food order including drinks we asked also for two plastic cups as we were sharing the large bottle of orange juice ordered then we asked to add a packet of crisps to the order, she then said would you like any drinks, I replied you have just taken the drink order, have i. yes orange juice, Yes and disappeared to fetch the visa card reader for payment giving me a bill, I paid and she disappeared and I went after her to ask for a visa receipt, she returned with a copy of the bill, as she walked away I asked excuse me I wanted a visa receipt, what did you order, You have just given me the bill, Oh yes you just paid then disappeared to return with my receipt, a further waitress came to ask if we would like to place an order, thank you we have already ordered, the second waitress came back again to ask what flavour crisps did you want, she could not read what had been written down, then returned again was it orange you wanted, Yes, then the Manager arrived would you like to place an order, thank you we already have, You could not have written a greater farce. The Manager was running around like a headless chicken No face mask, No suitable apron or other only a dirty fleece taking orders clearing tables delivering food taking payments hygiene practice zero and not a pleasant man at all quite blunt and rude at times with his backside in my face whilst talking to other customers. Covid-19 precautions, well lip service only in many respects as his hygiene practices. Tuna melts could have been warmer most other staff quite pleasant

This place is excellent, sits really nicely in its surrounding approached via a bridge so you walk out into the lake. The website says no dogs but when I asked they now graciously let you sit out on the balcony! Really not sure what you can only sit on the balcony, other than congestion perhaps. The waiting staff didn't seem in control and i had to clear out table, but couldn't clean it down properly. They dithered but we finally got served. To be fair the cakes and drinks were decent enough with a good strong flat white.

Nice location for a dog walk. But at least £3 to park. Rubbish scattered everywhere. Bins overflowing. Went to the cafe with the dog and they’re not allowed in. No dogs. How much trade are they loosing through that. Saw the balcony from a distance and would have been lovely to sit having lunch with the dog. Too warm to leave him in the car. Cafe was half empty. All the tables piled with pots. Unhelpful staff. Reluctant to serve even though there was no queue just for a coffee, and expensive. Won’t bother again and I can see why it was very quiet on a sunny afternoon. Even John Lewis allow dogs nowadays! See empty balcony on picture.

Arriving at the cafe, there was a couple in front of us and a cafe attendant busy at the coffee machine, so we waited, assuming they were being served and our turn would follow. Some appetising cakes took our attention, so we pondered. Eventually the cafe lady turned round, empty-handed and asked if she could help the people we thought she had been serving for the several minutes we had been waiting. She started to serve them, and was perfectly pleasant, but the kitchen area behind the counter was very messy, with spilt food and cluttered work surfaces. Looking around for a table, when our turn came, showed that hardly any were free. There were people sitting at about 40% and another 50% bore trays of dirty crockery. Those that were clear had obviously not been wiped over, and whilst we were there nothing changed. No one appeared to clear anything. We sat outside, as the weather was perfect, but the tables were dirty and cluttered there too. We could see other customers clearing and wiping tables they wanted to sit at. Awful environment in which to eat, and really awful service.

Look I know it's a nature reserve and fully respect this, however, there is a point when this is way too much. This was my first time here having ridden a good 14 miles to get there. I was looking forward to a well earned brew and something to eat outside. When I arrived the outside tables were dirty and there was so much bird poo everywhere on the floor you couldn't help but step in it, the smell was awful. Even walking up the gantry path to the cafe was dirty. Loads of Canada Geese around with kids feeding them from food bought from within the cafe. Bad idea to be honest and shouldn't be allowed where food is being consumed as the birds flock here to be fed. I didn't bother ordering anything as it was obvious all that poo everywhere would be transferred into the cafe by the heavy foot traffic. If you provide food Facilities you should provide a sterile clean area outside so people can enjoy their food and drink !!!.

BUT the employees working in the cafe are so rude. Especially one lady in particular who was rather abrupt in her mannerism. I appreciate it gets particularly busy however there was no eye contact, a smile or even a please/thank you when taking the payment. It's such a fabulous place so I can't understand why the customer service doesn't represent this. A real shame as manners and customer service doesn't cost anything. Saying this there was a gentleman serving in the shop who was a delight so I don't want to tarnish everyone with the same brush.

Made a quick visit today for tea and cake We selected our cakes and asked for two teas - we were presented with one SMALL tea pot and half a jug of hot water - along with two cups and saucers - we waited for a second SMALL tea pot to appear and were met with curious looks from the staff - when we questioned things and asked for a second pot we were told (in a not very pleasant tone) that we had the hot water to top the pot up!!!My friend likes very weak tea so poured half a cup and then topped it up with hot water - I left mine to brew a short while - when I poured it - it was almost black!!! There were two teabags in the tiny pot!Why not put one tea bag in one pot and give each customer a pot each - or use a BIGGER tea pot - bad tea is such a disappointment :-(Whilst this isn't that serious on a scale of 1 to 10 - it is enough to put us off coming again - there are plenty of other places that offer service with a smile in the local area

The restaurant at the nature reserve serves good food with a varied menu. The lamb and mint casserole served with chunky wholemeal bread and butter is a signature dish and never fails too please. The meat is extremely tender and falls apart. There are vegetarian options. There is a huge choice of sandwiches both large and small, depending on the type of bread [doorstep or regular sliced on white or wholemeal], panini and baguettes. If the wholemeal baguette with hummus and roasted Mediterranean vegetables is available give it a try as it is superb. There is a good choice of non-alcoholic drinks. The shop sells all sorts of 'birding' equipment, bird feed and feeders as well as children's gifts. The view over the lakes is very special and there is an opportunity to see all manner of wild birds. Take a walk on the wild side, down to the river Trent or around the lakes and before or after reward yourself by visiting the visitors centre. You won't be disappointed,

We usually celebrate surviving our 5K walk, with the kids, round Attenborough by visiting the cafe. On this occasion it was a group of us mums, 3 dogs and 7 children plus bikes, scooters and prams - The British Army would have been hard pressed to organise this outing! We managed to get in the cafe after our walk, dogs tucked away in the cars, literally just before the lunchtime rush so quickly grabbed one of the big tables by the windows and ran to order before the queue formed. It's a popular cafe at any time of the year so it's always best to aim for before or after the lunchtime masses if you want a table! And you have to try for a window seat as the views are spectacular whatever the weather. One of the mums did the clean up and toilet run, toilets are always clean despite the amount of muddy people who must trudge through daily! The lass on the till that day was very quick with our orders, we've had to wait before but never overly long even when it's busy. We all had sandwiches and opted for the 'small portion' sandwiches as one is enough for two children to share especially if you're having cake or scones too .... and you will, because they are scrummy. After eating we let the kids have a look in the wildlife corner whilst we mums enjoyed a quiet cuppa, we would have popped into the wildlife garden too but we were pushed for time.On the way out we bought a couple of the bags of duck food, the prefect way to finish a lovely day out.

An abundance of wild life add another plus to the walks. The cafe adds another dimension with it's delicious home grown and feshly cooked menu. Toilet fascities are clean and easily accessible. There are some rare water birds that nest here along with the usual Canadian Geese and Swans and food can be brought to feed them. This is a long overdue review and it is a regular lunch spot for our family for a very good reason. The location is simply the best in the area,in a nature reserve, not a main road. The food is also fresh and organic when it can be.Selections are varied, there is a different soup with chunky organic bread each day and they always have a baked potato and salad option with cheese, coleslaw, tuna etc. They have a few hot dishes like beer and beef casserole, minted lamb hotpot, and a vegetarian option.A vast selection of hot and cold drinks and a fridge cabinet with a varied selection of cakes and other naughty things that you are free to walk off afterwards with the miles of beautiful paths around the reserve. The staff are so very friendly and attentive which is a reason why we return on a very regular basis. If you are looking to try somewhere new or want to take a loved one out to lunch or a coffee with a nicer surrounding than the local coffee house then this is the place for you.Oh and you can buy bags of bird seed to feed the ducks afterwards!

We always time our arrival for 12 when the hot lunches start aswe love their lamb and mint casserole or beef casserole which is cooked over night in slow cookers. The bread slices are generous and always fresh. Food is sourced as locally as possible and is always of good quality. As others have said in busy times it is busy but staff will allow use of the conference room as an extention of cafe. I have never had a stale or tasteless piece of food here and all the staff bend over backwards to help you and to keep tables turning over steadily but with no pressure to rush your meal. A must if you are in the area.

We walked around the nature reserve on a sunny day as Autumn began and then went for afternoon tea. The setting of the cafe in a building standing on stilts In the lake is fabulous. The glass walls allow a panoramic view across the lake and surrounding countryside. The generous portions of cake are served with a well made pot of good tea and come with a jug of boiling water to make more! The young women serving are efficient and very pleasant. After eating there is a lovely gift shop to wander through on the way out where we purchased cards, books and bags of bird seed to feed the many ducks and geese on the path home to round off a great day out. Already looking forward to another visit.

This café, as well as having beautiful surroundings, has an excellent choice of fresh food, at very reasonable value. You can sit in or out depending on the weather. The food was well-made, well-prepared and very tasty. Service was pretty quick too.The choice of hot pies and sandwiches was excellent, the chose steak and ale pie was very tasty. Many of the cakes looked delicious, I can never resist caramel shortcake (millionaires' shortcake) and this was very good, the caramel was very tasty, the base was ideal and not too crumbly and the chocolate was tasty too.

Arrived on a bitterly cold Mothers day with the wife and 2 kids for a spot of light lunch. Found a table overlooking the lake, placed order and didn't have to wait to long for food to arrive. Even if there was a wait, there is plenty for the kids to do in the kids corner. Shop has some nice but typically expensive gifts that frequent these types of places. Toilets modern and clean. The jacket potato and panini were very nice along with the tea/coffee. They do a nice little childrens lunch box meal comprising of sandwiches, yoghurt, banana, chocolate bar, toy snake and drink.Due to the light blizzard starting up, we didn't go for a walk around the reserve but will come back when the weather is better.

Love the reserve in all seasons. The cafe is a welcome pit stop with organic offerings for the whole family. Kids can do rubbings and jigsaws whilst waiting to be served. Lovely views. Feed the ducks or read all about it. Paninis and doorstop sandwiches are great.

Boasting wonderful views across the nature reserve, this cafe serves simple and tasty grub. Whether it's a filling doorstep sandwich or always delicious homemade soup, you will find something satisfying after a walk around the reserve. The coffee is also surprising decent, not quite barista standard, but a cut above what you find in most places. One note of caution: be prepared to queue for a table.I recommend, weather permitting, bagging a table outside to sample an unspoiled view.

Visit often as I live nearby. What struck me straight away when this place opened a few years ago was that the food is made from high end ingredients. Some lovely sweets/cakes etc and decent lunchtime food. I would say fairly priced for what you get. Staff always efficient on keeping tables clear as it can get very busy when the weather is good. There's a few little activities for the kids to play with and a shop all wrapped up in the same area. There is an outside terrace with seating overlooking one of the reserves' lakes and a garden at the rear with a pond. Good for disabled also. There are no steps to the front and to the rear garden there is a ramp.

This is a really nice place to go for lunch before going for a walk at the Attenborough Nature Reserve. They have hot meals at the weekend which usually consist of a couple of different casseroles or baked potatoes. Their cakes and coffee are really yummy. This is a very child friendly place to eat, however, it gets really busy at the weekends and in the holidays and so I usually feel a bit fraught until we have got a table (we more than often have to share a table or wait a bit until one is free).

We held our daughters naming day here and it was a lovely setting and the food was perfect. The staff really went the extra mile for us too, producing a gluten free meal we had overlooked. We also regularly eat in the cafe. It is slightly pricey but here you really do get what you pay for. The light bite options are more what I would term 'normal' size and you can really tell the quality of their ingredients. It does get very busy at peak times though.Good childrens food options, and plentiful highchairs.

Wonderful setting in the nature reserve and in an environmentally friendly building. The Cafe serves lunch only, but has a daily selection of freshly prepared specials which are delicious. Check out the organic bread and enjoy the view over the water, then take a stroll in the nature reserve...

Went for a meal. The food and drink was great and reasonably priced and we were very well looked after by Katie our server. Recommended for a quiet family meal or a drink.

Only stopped in on a walk to have a pint and a pudding. Staff were really friendly. Neck Oil beer was top notch and lemon meringue pie delicious. The chef even gave my dog some bits of pork! Will return for a meal next time
