Lively place. I've not tried the food yet so I can't comment on it.

Can get over the food if the staff were some way friends what they were for from the definition not return smell coming from glasses food was not worth mentioning stay clear

No food when we got there . Very disappointing as we made a special effort to meet family there for a meal

I stopped off at The Charlton Arms (so named after a local family "prominent in local affairs" according to Blue Plaque on Chilwell High Road) whilst technically still at work, so my visit was never going to be a particularly long one, however in the time that I was there I did make some observations. Firstly the place was very quiet - it was about 12:45pm, so that is hardly surprising, and all I found in rather dark main room was one barmaid and a couple of barflies. A TV in the wall listlessly broadcast Sky Sports News whilst I ordered a Coke (due to still being at work). I found the price of £3 for just under a pint of coke to be slightly excessive however I, quite rightly, don't ever order coke in pubs and so I don't know if this is the going rate or not. I sat outside for the duration of my stay, in spite of the temperature in March, and did observe that this pub has an excellently large car park, and so I imagine it would be a good venue for large groups. I'd like to try this place again one day - at a more sociable time with more time to spare. I probably wouldn't order the coke though...

No food just drinks great atmosphere

OK but I have never seen a dog bowl on the bar before and a dog on a stool by the bar. Bar is surrounded by regulars on bar stools no room for ordering drinks. The place does not really show a good atmosphere for eating food. Foul language every where. This is a drinkers pub. Wouldn't eat here due to disrespect for hygiene.

Ellen and Richard are eome of the best landlords I ever met been coming here for a few year's and love the place looking forward to many more year's here

This is my local, really. It's under new management again. I do hope they can make a success of it. Not eaten there yet, but the menu looks good, with several vegetarian and vegan choices.

Not had any food here but heard good reports..Great karaoke and dj on Fridays..landlord and landlady very friendly and welcoming.

Glad to see the Charlton back to where it should be. The food is amazing and the staff are friendly and helpful too. Will definitely be coming back !!

Was a great night last night, felt really welcoming and the new landlady has done a great job. The band was awesome. Great job to all involved. Has quietened down alot since my first night but there are still some decent regulars.

Proper pub with pool. Large and open ...its going to take alot of heating in winter. Suggest they invest in an open fire

Pub empty no real ales and no food

Yet another pub with no actual beer - plenty of lagers (what we beer drinkers call 'shampoo'), but no actual draught beer. It's a big place and was all-but empty at 8.30 on a Thursday evening; hence, no beer and zero atmosphere. I'm sure it has its own crowd on certain nights but I'm not interested enough to follow up. Beer drinkers should walk by - there are plenty of ale houses in Beeston.

This pub does NOT have SKY sports or sell food despite advertising. Don't waste your time if you want to watch football or dine out.

Went to this pub to see Filthy Contact playing. What a night. The bar staff were lovely as were the punters. The pub is well maintained and well priced. Will definitely be going again.

Been here twice in 3 weeks for breakfast. Highly recommend the full English with fried bread. Unfortunately no black pudding.

Bar staff cannot place any food orders if their lifes depended on it. Food can occasionally be poor, Toilets need cleaning and repairs making. The place needs shutting and gutting Ffwd to Sept 2021...... . .........that was my previous review 3 yr ago.... A new person has taken over and appears to be turning the pub around. Had a Sunday roast there which was awesome and then stayed to play "sticky13s" A great atmosphere as is Monday night with a quiz. Well done Charlton, Oh, and I don't have to hold my breath now when I go to the toilet.

This was easily some of the best pub grub I've ever had. The portion sizes were generous, the taste was amazing, and there was very little on the menu I wouldn't want to try at some point. We had a garlic bread sharer platter between us, and truthfully if I'd had that again for the main course I wouldn't have considered it a wasted trip. Definitely worthwhile visiting this place. Some of the best food for miles around.

Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch today all home cooked and very generous portions, carnt recommended it highly enough, we will definitely be back!!!

I came in after hearing great things about the new management and was NOT disappointed! Staff were extremely polite and accommodating. The atmosphere was very welcoming and upbeat. Had some lunch from the new menu, which was delicious and was the perfect accompaniment to my nice cold beer. I have recommended all my friends visit…I look forward to coming back 🙂

The Charlton Arms in Chilwell has just reopened a great new pub restaurant so I took the family for Sunday Lunch and wow what a Sunday lunch. Without doubt it was the best Sunday roast I've had in Nottingham and derby. Seriously highly recommended.

Been here twice now as the Sunday dinner was amazing. Came back for a curry which was also as good. The new management seem a breath of fresh air. Nice atmosphere and great menu.

Went to this pub for the first time to watch the England game and have drinks during Covid. Whilst I’m aware Covid slows things down but this service was unacceptable. From sitting down at the table you are to order drinks on the app, through a QR code on the table, after 45 minutes still no drink. Our friends who came five minutes after us had to wait 60 minutes to then be told that the app wasn’t working. They then ordered drinks through the waitress and after this waited another 20 minutes. Absolutely poor service and safe to say I will not be returning to this pub again.

Booked a table for food, said they'd run out of sunday dinners thought we'd be able to get something else off the menu but there was actually nothing.

The blonde older woman and the brown haired younger woman wouldn’t serve us because they couldn’t cope with a queue! Why put a time online if you’re not going to stick to it! The staff will still serve other people in the pub but won’t serve us as we had just walked in, not happy. Definitely will not be returning, they will take out money any other time of day but when they are busy they won’t give us the time of day. Why bother putting anything online if you’re going to change your mind whenever someone new walks in, no social distancing going on and random customers walking on the bar, an absolute joke of a pub.

Went to the charlton arms to try there new food menu! Fantastic burgers. I had the bbq glaze and it was just mouth watering. Service was good and the pint was nicely cold. Over all great visit.

5 stars all the way for this great friendly pub. Dog friendly and the landlord Anthony Goes out of his way to make you welcome. Superb sunday dinner which was very nicely presented by the chef. Large beer garden and a great selection of gins. Very highly recommended

Amazing night as always with great friends

Went for lunch as a change from the other local with my aunt and uncle. The food was amazing, you could tell it was freshly made, I had an idea before as the menu was small usually meaning no need to micro meals! You could tell the burger was handmade and so tasty! Such a good decision to try it! Will definitely go again!

Just lovely people and a good atmosphere

We visited the Charlton Arms over the bank holiday for a few drinks to see how it looks after the refurb. Got to say that it looks great! Very modern and spacious with plenty of seating available. Sat in the beer garden which is very private and green.... could have spent a little money on this though as looking a little tired. Great value for money on food and drinks although the choice of high end lager is limited. Overall though, a much improvement.

I called in on Saturday evening for a beer after reading they sell real ale. There were two taps reading "coming soon" and one Bombadier. I asked the man who served me if there any more on offer and he just shrugged and grunted. So I had the Bombadier and when I received my change he said not a word. Not even a " thank you" . The beer was at best disgusting so I returned only to be told there was no alternative and the girl just stared at me. So I just walked out. Maybe I should have stood my ground but the whole experience was not at all good. In shall not be going in there again. 0/10

Absolutely brilliant. Friendly and helpful staff accommodated us with wheelchair user. decor great but most of all the chilli con carne was best I've ever had. Amazing taste rice cooked perfect and served with panache. First meal had in here for over two years. Loved it 😊 thank you. Will be back to taste some more especially Sunday lunch

Just had a meal from the new menu since being taken over by Anthoney. What can i say?? It was amazing. Fajitas was epic, Fish and Chips just amazing. Thankyou Charlton Arms staff. I will be back again and again for my food too.

A great pub, recently under new management. Now started the food. Menu is pub classics but the difference is that everything is freshly cooked. No frozen or micro meals here! Multi tv screens so even if your sports clash there will be a screen showing it. Proper pub, not trying to be a trendy place but you can get all types of drinks e.g. gin menu, wine, ale, lager and all the rest. Excellent atmosphere. This pub has improved massively in recent months since under new ownership.

Expected a choice of ales, but no, still no choice. Cider is strongbow or old Rosie on draught. Just the usual super sweet choice in bottles sadly. If you want lager then all is well, loads of choice. Staff are nice enough as they always have been. It's ok but expected an improvement after a refit. A chance missed imo.

Just had money spent including signage which states "Cask Ales" & guess what at 6pm on Friday 5th July 2019 we went in to be greeted by 4 hand pulls 1 of which was Pedigree but 3 others in both bars read "Cask Ale coming soon or waiting" We did not have a drink here although my wife does not drink ale but we had made a special journey to see what had been done & enjoy real ale here so very poor management in fact we will not waste our time again. Further more tribes of smokers just outside the main entrance is not only off putting but a health & safety issue which should be addressed. Very poor wonder how the brewery feel about this let down after a large investment ?

This is a great pub especially now with the new refurb. Great staff and a lovely atmosphere.

Has had a nice refurbishment and the food is good. However, now no CAMRA discount, only one real ale was available (Bombardier which is not a favourite) and the price of the beer is up. Cannot recommend and I will not be going back.

Great pub with an even better atmosphere. A real mix of people which makes everyone feel welcome young and old. I'm really looking forward to seeing this place after it's refurbishment as it's already lovely as it is

The bar area was very crowded and noisy, but it was a Friday evening after all. The music was deafening. I asked for a large coke but my large glass was only half full. The excuse was that I didn't want ice but it was still a very short measure. I also asked for a large Pino Grigio but there wasn't any so it was a Soave in a glass with no measure marked on it and it didn't look like 250 ml. The drinks were also expensive for what they were. We drank up and then left, never to return.

Going to close soon for refurbishment dont know what way it's going to go???? Hope its not going like other public houses

Had my daughter 21st here last week staff were brilliant and had a buffet for 40 people and everyone commented on how good the food was x Would definitely do it there again x

Ordered sausage and mash with an extra Yorkshire pudding for 99p. Was presented fairly well, but the mash potato was clearly smash. No taste, no flavour just cheap add water rubbish. Apart from that the rest of the meal was edible but not worth the tenner it cost. Staff all polite, accommodating and friendly. Was fairly quiet. Shame about the smash, would have been nice otherwise. Sundae with cookies and salted caramel was amazing.

Local folks boozer.... nuff said.

We visited the Charlton a few times for food and I normally consider it superior to the nearby Cadland, however, on our recent visit I was appalled by the food. My husband and I both chose roasts, a safe choice. For £9 each we were served what I can only describe as school dinners; the roast potatoes looked like frozen ones, the veg was certainly frozen or boil in the bag and the chicken looked questionable. It will teach me to be lazy and not cook my own roast!

Well all I can say is don’t bother going!!! A table was booked for 12 people dining we were given the smallest space at the front that’s raised to try and fit 12 people round a square table for 4 so pulled two small round tables up to all try squeeze round!! Ending up with some of us with our backs to one another, ordered meals at 8pm to be told it would be about 45 min before served, ok but the pub was not even busy but we agreed. So am half hr later two meals came out, hr later couple more then hr and half later the rest came!!!! And I can say that it was no way worth waiting that long for !!! So we were all eating separately absolutely terrible service and I’ve seen some believe me but this beats them all. And the ladies toilets half the doors don’t lock and they smell of sewers so off putting straight away. I will be letting everybody know of our terrible visit and terrible meal🤬

Scruffy pub not the staffs fault but the air con pump was leaking water all over the floor both in the pub and toilet corridor. Only two real ales on tap, neither very good. Having said that the food was good.

Me and the wife had a great time here for the bank holiday, so much so we stayed for dinner and had the sharing platter. We thoroughly enjoyed it, cooked perfectly and more than enough for 2 people.

Fantastic food and atmosphere. I had the chicken fajitas and they were lovely. Tracy behind the bar was also really friendly and polite. Deffo visit again!

For my farther in laws 98th birthday we decided to take home for a family Sunday lunch out.

Hi drink in this pub a lot always found the landlady and staff always pleasant and polite also had a meal earlier chicken fajitas very nice well presented by Andy the chef will be eating here again excellent well done.

Sunday dinner was OK, the mash and roast pots let it down. The beef was really nice. No cheesecake dome available however millionaire brownie was gorgeous :) would go back but possibly not to have Sunday Roast x
