Great food, great drink and great atmosphere. Lovely to drink outdoors when it's warm. Friendly staff. Sometimes busy but always welcoming 🙂

Very good hotel. Pub and restaurant at reception. Great food and super friendly staff. The only problem is the Wi-Fi.

We had a 1 night stay as we had an event to go to in the area close by. We had room 7 which maybe could do with a refresh but it was as clean, warm and well equipped. There was a green light on the ceiling which bathed the room in green light all night but luckily we were a bit worse for wear so it didn’t stop us from sleeping 😂. Bed was huge and comfy. Tea & coffee tray. No complaints at all. The pub is great, sells a good selection of ales and wines. Some bloke was a bit sweary in the main bar but thats not the pubs fault. The food was lush, with a range of home cooked options on the menu. Breakfast was included and was amazing. Finally, the staff were 10/10 for friendliness and professionalism. The price was amazingly good value. I’d highly recommend a stay here.

Room average, nice big bed and deep bath. Fire evacuation light on bedroom ceiling. Lights green through the night. Internet appalling.

Oh dear, such a disappointment! Stayed here for 2 nights. The room was very nice, apart from the damp patch on the wall. Bathroom was a shock! Tiles coming away from the wall and mould all around the shower tray.So disgusting I couldn't wash in the bathroom as it made me feel sick.We were in Nottingham visiting our daughter so washed there instead! ! There was also damp/mould on the wall where it meets the ceiling! The room was a lovely size with comfortable bed and very clean linen, but the green fire exit light had been positioned badly as to keeping us awake at night! Also the flood light from the rear car park. The corridors and breakfast room were mopped in domestos bleach every morning for some unknown reason as the hotel looked grubby everywhere else. The smell was overwhelming especially in the breakfast room. In the corridor there was a hand sanitizer station containing hand gel (clearly a relic from Covid). On inspection this had 3 distinct areas of mould growing in the hand gel! We met some lovely ladies who served us breakfast which was actually very good. Whoever owns this establishment has no idea of clean and unclean! We would not wish to stay here again. The pub/hotel has everything to offer in terms of history, size, potential, it just needs love, a bit of hygiene education and TLC!

Really welcoming pub/hotel just of the M1. The pub is really unspoilt, and the room was comfortable. I had a lovely dinner and a very tasty breakfast. Highly recommended.

Came here today after a very poor experience at Cafe up the road, The lady behind the bar was amazing, so friendly and couldn't do more for us! There were 5 of us in total we all had food and drinks and the food was soo good! I've never been here before but after the wonderful service and scrumptious food it's definitely not going to be our last time..unlike the Café up the road! Big thumbs up from us!

First time visit and loved it definitely recommend.

Really enjoy our stay here as staff were friendly and professional. Room was nice and comfortable. Breakfast was good. We going back next month for a night.

Very tired decor throughout, but nice friendly staff

Not too bad room 2 had an awful smell did complain however the only room left was a twin. Left the windows open. Shower was leaking. So we think the water was the cause of the smell. Needs to be looked at. No toilet paper in the room. However bed was comfy and clean. Needs updating. Sorry not a good experience.

Stayed for 3 nights, really liked it. Asked for a big bed, did not disappoint as the bed was huge! Good friendly staff and regulars, clean rooms and en suite. Food was always spot on. Good drinks too and was a laugh with the landlord with his speciality drink to see the reactions of people to the taste. Made the experience unique and a good way to talk to people. The only thing that made it a little awkward was that the WiFi doesn't reach the rooms so had to go to the bar to use the WiFi, if they can sort that out, then it would be absolutely spot on all round.

Didn't stay overnight but had a small dinner party after my wedding. Well!! The staff was friendly and courteous after getting drinks and giving in our food order, the food seamed to take its time but was not a problem cus we was all chatting and the food came out all at the same time 👌 which is far better than getting quicker service but everyone eating and finishing at different times. The food was fresh hot a you can tell lovely cooked with care like your mother would cook 🥰 Overall!! Everyone (even the Mother-in-law) enjoyed the food, would definitely recommend the pub even if you are just passing by for a pub snack or a Sunday lunch... Ps! Hope the young blonde barmaid found her Pandora bracelet lol...

Friendly local, one of the nicest pubs around

Nice clean room with en suite bathroom. Really good cooked breakfast and can adjust for dietary requirements. Friendly and welcoming bar with local beer, great place to stay and relax.

We had a big airy room with a supersized bed. Bathroom could use a little attention but it was functional and clean. (It is a very old building after all). Breakfast was on time and came exactly as we'd asked for, perfect.

Lovely little pub near the centre of the town but in a quiet location. Rooms were clean comfortable, and staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Good breakfast and overall great value.

Lovely traditional friendly pub . Stayed as visiting a friend nearby. Room was clean and had everything you needed, lovely well cooked breakfast . Landlord and staff were really welcoming. Lots of parking. Would definitely recommend. I will return from York again soon 🙂 Edit - second visit was just as lovely as the first , made to feel very welcome , such a lovely pub and team running it . thank you x

Average beers, nice surrounding

Plenty of character, decent, hot food at reasonable prices, friendly prompt service. Beer consistently good.

We called in here for some food and we weren't disappointed the food is absolutely delicious and the service was very good, the staff were very friendly and polite and made you feel welcome. We would highly recommend to friends and family.

Went for Mother’s Day a large party of 12 , amazing food all home cooked and lovely presented , kitchen staff and bar staff rushed off their feet as it was busy but still had a smile and brought food out promptly and hot ,served drinks quickly , great atmosphere lovely village pub with friendly people , can’t wait to go again 10/10

Booked for mother's Day lunch, which was a lovely, fresh roast dinner. We chose desserts from the board, which was brought to the table for us. The chocolate fudge cake was fresh and delicious, delivered quickly and efficiently. Service was friendly and quick, made to feel very welcome even though we had a lively spaniel puppy with us. Gave us a table in a quiet corner, perfect. Two people in our booking cancelled at the last minute, our table was ready and the staff were understanding. Will be back for lunch and will pass the word that the Nelson is better than ever.

Lovely old fashioned proper pub with great food (one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had) and friendly staff. A real hidden gem. Will definitely return.

The pub was a friendly place and the staff were welcoming. The room overall was fine, the bedroom itself was spacious and well presented. The bathroom was OK, there was a lingering smell that didn't smell right and the room itself could do with a refurb

Nelson and railway is a lovely place to stay, there for family wedding. The pub/B&B is clean and has a cozy feel with a great breakfast in the morning. Didn't use the bar but it looked well stocked with a good choice of beers. Location Only scored two because didn't see any of the area.

The hotel was lovely. We booked 2 doubles,, both were spotlessly clean, comfortable and lots of room. Huge beds. Food in evening and breakfast was fabulous. Good range of drinks in bar. Parking on site. Great hosts. Would recommend.

Called in for something to eat. Lovely greeting from the bar and were asked if we were dining whilst deciding where to sit. Looked at the menu and also the specials board. Everything from snack to all day brunch and main meals, along with chefs specials on the board. My friend had the all day brunch and was asked if he'd prefer toast or fried bread with it. He decided on toast. I fancied the cheese and onion toastie with salad and coleslaw. The food came along and looked beautiful. Eating it was a pleasure as it tasted as good as it looked. Everything freshly done to order. We were asked if we required anything over and above the well stocked condiments selection. We both were highly delighted and thanked the lady who cleared our table once we'd both finished

What a lovely homely place to stay. The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond for us, and we cannot say thankyou enough for going to buy the fan for us! Breakfast was lovely. We highly recommend .

A great traditional pub/B&B. The room was very comfortable and has everything you need. The stand out though was the service especially the chef who does the breakfast in the morning. He goes above and beyond. I asked for tap water instead of morning tea or coffee and he gave me two bottles of water. I would definitely recommend a stay

Lovely little local pub, friendly staff and locals!! Food is good and clean comfortable room. I just stayed overnight as I went to see a gig in nearby Eastwood.

IF you want to know what 'real' pubs were all about in 1970's/80's before Corporate Marketing at Greene King / Marstons etc.. destroyed them, visit Nelson and Railway @ Kimberley, Notts. Tiled / wooden floors, solid bar with brass hand rails and foot rails, framed wooden walls. This is how pubs around Notts were back 40 years ago. Visit this one and enjoy, before they get a visit from 'Head Office'...

Traditional style inn. Great staff, very friendly. Food menu is a bit limited for choice and about average pricing.

My friends and I were in the area walking and came on the Pub by accident we weren't staying, just stopped for lunch. Beer excellent, in quality and price. Landlord and staff so helpful and friendly.

The best Sunday lunch I've ever had, see my photo for the proof. Today the Sunday lunch was airing towards a Christmas dinner, and I even ate the brussel sprouts.

Stopped at this fantastic little pub Saturday night...the cosy atmosphere and friendliness of the staff and customers was refreshing. The food was excellent just proper food not mass produced chain stuff. The room was huge and comfortable, also it was very clean. In the morning the breakfast was great and lovely start to the day....

5 stars for exactly what is expected from a "proper pub", welcoming staff, good atmosphere, great jukebox, friendly locals (with the odd eccentric thrown in for good measure), spot on prices, old school decor and a decent cheap food menu.

We visited on Sunday having pre-booked a table since we know it gets busy. The server at the bar was very rude, she said I wasn't hear when it was booked, why on earth would that make a difference I don't know. There was no table reserved and instead of saying how long this would be she looked past us and asked the people behind us what drinks we wanted. They were rude enough to carry on, so we just left for a different pub, we won't be returning to this pub again! Not sure what happened to customer service, maybe she hasn't worked in the service industry before but there is no excuse for rudeness.

Great b&b! Rooms are fine, beer and food great value. Hosts are good fun. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Easy bus ride into Nottingham 👍

Lovely big clean room. Very friendly staff and the steak pie was amazing. Very decent pint of bitter and a very good full English. Close to M1 so convenient and enjoyable stop off point to break a journey.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast dinner today! All really well cooked. And lots of tasty gravy! Followed by Treacle Sponge and custard. Kimberley Best Bitter was beautiful. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We'll be back for more! But really need to replace the missing letters on the pub sign! But maybe the 'ON A AY' will catch on?!😁

Nice old pub, food nice. No lights in carpark and night (when we was there) one car on jacks with no wheels, this was a bit concerning. Friends had booked to stay overnight, no water in room due to mains water problem. But no bottle water for guests and no effort made to get them any. Disappointed in this when friends came a long way to meet us.

Good value, clean accommodation. Great hosts. Stayed for an overnight on a Saturday. Checked in, temperature checked on arrival. Greeted by the new landlord couple. Really nice, friendly and welcoming people. I know the pub well as been visiting for a number years, with many family and friends. It’s a great pub with a fine selection of ales and good quality food. The accommodation at the side of the pub is good for the price and I would definitely stay again in the future.
