Can't say we had a bad experience but it wouldn't be the type of place we would want to keep coming back to. Every single piece of meat we ordered was dry and lacked flavour. The accompanying dips were nice but you definitely needed them to enjoy the dishes. Don't get me wrong, the meat was cooked for a while as it was falling apart and off the bones but yet the meat was still dry as if it was precooked and then reheated to serve. Deep-fried dishes were also rather greasy. The biggest disappointment was the frickle. That's the dish I love to order at bbq places but I didn't even eat half of the portion because there was waaaaay too much batter to pickle ratio and it was very greasy. On top of that, you pay £3+ for a soft drink to be served in a whole glass of ice with a bit of soft drink, it's not refillable and I wouldn't say you even get a small glass of drink out of it. But to top it all off, they add a service charge for an absolute bare minimum service you would expect from a restaurant. In 8/10 times I would keep service charge on if both food and service was worth it but I can't say it was the case here. We got seated, drink orders taken, drinks brought out and food ordered taken and then food brought to the table. That was the extent of the service so it definitely doesn't justify a 12.5% service charge. But the staff was nice and had no problems taking off the service charge. Overall, I would say it's an okay place but not worth the price or experience. You would get better quality food from Hickory's as it's an actual smokehouse.

Las patatas fritas también estaban muy sabrosas, pero el hotdog vegano me pareció un poco seco en comparación con otros que he probado. Otros tenían hamburguesas y macarrones y bolas de queso y dijeron que eran todos encantadores. Lo visitaría de nuevo, realmente quiero probar el crepitar Tofo!

We came here on a sunday and the food was perfect and arrived fast. They also cater very well to people with allergies (gluten free and dairy free). However, the table we were sat at clearly hadn’t been wiped as it had sauce stains on it from the last customer. Additionally, the service (if you could even call it that) was abysmal we were seated and our orders taken, then completely ignored while the staff sat at a table completely out of view. Not once were we asked how we were or if we wanted anything and were stuck waiting when we wanted to pay. When it came to paying not only did they have the gall to charge us a service charge (which unfortunately we paid as we stupidly weren’t paying attention and were in a rush due to having to wait for the servers), but they also completely ignored us when we asked to split the bill, forcing my partner to pay it all as they hadn't listened. It is such a shame because the food was absolutely perfect and there’s a fun vibe in here but the servers were completely useless. Only come here if you’re willing to put up with no service because the food really is worth it.

I think probably going here on a Sunday afternoon was a bad idea, I’m not sure what was wrong with the lady who took our first order but she came across as insincere and a little rude. Maybe a bad/long day at the office. It wasn’t very busy which isn’t a great sign for starters, the decor seems dated and a bit shabby - the music was way too loud to hold a conversation especially as it was empty and it just bounced around. We were greeted with a very long list of what wasn’t available - which included burgers and chicken - which did kind of limit the options. Even after that long list there were other things that weren’t available which we found at the point of ordering. The food came quite quickly and wasn’t great - mine was cold - the fried pickles were the only thing hot but the batter was inedible. We weren’t asked if everything was ok. We didn’t say anything as I didn’t feel there was much point. Given the environment and the loudness we opted to box some bits so we could leave. To be honest the only saving grace was that we spotted 30% off for students so it brought the price down from ‘oh my god’ to just about ok. All in all a disappointing experience one not to be repeated

3 meats and 1 side. Belly Pork, Chicken Leg and Brisket with a side of green beans. Reds True Barbecue more like Reds False Barbecue. Firstly, if you're expecting American style barbecue food then this is not the place for you. A slab of belly pork that was 90% fat and just smothered in a BBQ sauce. Chicken Leg was meh. Slight taste of smoke but not very well seasoned nor juicy. Brisket was very dry. Not a drop of moisture and therefore difficult to eat. It had a drizzle of bbq sauce on top of it. True Barbecue doesn't require the sauce on brisket. Green beans are green beans.

Myself and my partner ate here Saturday for my birthday and were left pretty disappointed. I ordered the BYOB platter and my partner ordered a large portion of wings, when they arrived I could hardly beleive my eyes at the portion size of the platter being so small before being confused as to why my partner received a bowl of chicken drumsticks, not a single actual wing in the bowl. My partner ended up leaving 2/3's of the chicken, which shocked me as she is carribean and loves chicken, she told me that the chicken looked and tasted like it had been cooked in advance and kept warm before refrying just before serving as the outside was dark and very crunchy and the actual chicken itself was very dry. My platter wasn't much better, the ribs were dry and overcooked, the sausage wasn't great, the burnt ends were overcooked and hard, the pulled pork was very nice however there was about a spoonful of it. The 2 wings were okay but needed more sauce however the mac and cheese was fantastic. The service was good but we certainly won't be returning.

Primera visita a Reds en 6 años y tengo que decir que me decepcionó que los estándares alimenticios hayan bajado masivamente. Un amigo y yo llevamos a nuestros hijos (3 en total) para el almuerzo del sábado. Los niños tenían pollo con papas fritas y una porción de macarrones con queso. Mi amigo tenía el perro Pit y yo el BYOB. No creo que el BYOB representara una relación calidad-precio de £28 , ni el perro Pit de £16 . En su día las bandejas se apilaban con papas fritas y tenías tu elección de salsas rojas. Ahora la cantidad de papas fritas es lamentable y hay que pedir salsas ya que el personal nos dijo que solían ser robadas por los clientes. La comida en sí era lo suficientemente agradable, pero de nuevo no tan bueno como solía ser. Todo el personal que encontramos era muy amable y atento, así que absolutamente ningún problema con el servicio. El menú de bebidas también era muy limitado. En general podrían hacerlo mucho mejor con este lugar, tal como solían hacerlo.

No hemos estado en Red's desde antes del Covid. Por varias razones de la vida nos tomó tanto tiempo para visitar de nuevo. Estábamos allí para almorzar un sábado que en algún momento habría visto a la gente haciendo cola por la calle. El lugar estaba medio vacío, lo que nunca es una buena señal, pero el lugar estaba casi quieto como lo recordamos. Sin embargo, había una falta muy clara de barbacoa en marcha y que una vez olor a humo increíble era inexistente. Ni siquiera había olor a comida. El menú de comida parecía familiar y se leía como solía ser. Todas esas increíbles carnes que suenan todavía estaban en la lista. El menú de bebidas era alarmantemente genérico y leído como cualquier otro establecimiento de comida casual. La caja de salsa era ahora un surtido de Heinz mayo y ketchup y nos dimos cuenta de que las salsas rojas que antes estaban disponibles gratuitamente eran un extra de libra. Algo no me parecía bien en esta etapa y empezaba a desear que nos hubiéramos ido a otro lugar. El servicio fue amable y la comida se sirvió muy rápido. Para ser justos, se le debería haber dado el número de mesas vacías. Cuando llegó la comida estaba bastante claro que la "verdadera barbacoa" ahora es solo parte de la marca heredada. La comida definitivamente no era verdadera barbacoa. Puede haber tenido algo de ahumado o preparación previa para que pareciera a la barbacoa, pero todo parecía estar caliente o cocinado en una placa caliente. La carne de cerdo jalada era muy dura, el bresket era insípido y la salchicha estaba exagerada. Incluso los frijoles eran solo frijoles con trozos de carne calentados. Nada como esos frijoles una vez increíbles que contenían todos los pedazos quemados del hueso de la parrilla. Las papas estaban demasiado saladas. Las pecas eran lo mejor. En general, la comida era comible, pero no particularmente bueno. Si eres como nosotros y regresas después de unos años diría que los Rojos de antaño se han ido y es solo otra cadena en la calle para tomar su dinero en efectivo para una oferta de comida y bebida promedio. I come up to Leeds for work and enjoy trying new places to have dinner. This place had a nice vibe and Mr Rodrigo was excellent in making sure I had what I needed. I asked for an amendment to my order and he made sure it happened. Great service overall. The food was great and I actually couldn't finish it all (this is rarely a problem but there was just too much food to eat). It's a shame that one of the store made sauces is not included in the order and you have to pay extra for them. They have free basic sauces however. Good selection of drinks but the root beer was out of stock the day I went. Overall a good experience and if I don't have somewhere new to go next time I am up in Leeds I would probably return.

Gran restaurante, con un montón de opciones para la comida. Vinimos aquí para nuestra fiesta de Navidad de la oficina y teníamos el menú regular. El personal era amable y bien informado. This place was a little disappointing. The burgers were too greasy to be enjoyable so I could only eat half. I found the seating uncomfortable especially because we were practically shoulder to shoulder with other diners. I understand the theme is supposed to be like a “rough highway diner” but the toilets were disgusting. The floors squelched when you walked. The highlight was probably the service, really nice staff and the food came quickly.

I love Red's. Well worth the pilgramage to Leeds. Here for my son's 20th nameday. We were running late, so phoned ahead & our reservation was pushed back without a problem. Rodrigo our server was polite, helpful & very kind - even acquiescing to our request for a photo. The food was excellent & not too salty, important for folks with Hypertension, like me, so we could adjust seasoning at our table. As our eyes were bigger than our bellies there was plenty left to doggy bag up to take home. As a disabled person, the premises had level access. The doors require a push to gain entry but my son was with me to help. Wheelchair accessible loo available on same level with outward opening door. Also doubles as a changing station for parents. Choice of booths & also freestanding tables & chairs to choose from to accommodate differing seating needs.

Update: The people at Red's responded to this review and kindly offered a discounted rate to give them another try. Regrettably, this visit was worse. A lot worse. The staff recognised this fact and were extremely kind and apologetic. I don't blame them for a second. It's just a shame this previously incredible franchise has fallen so far. Original review below. A titan has fallen. It's been about 2 years since I last went to Red's. I used to love the London branch but when it closed I'd go out of my way to go to the Nottingham branch when I could. Red's it always held pride of place as my undisputed favourite restaurant. So when I came to Leeds and found that there was a branch here I couldn't have been more excited. I was warned that in the intervening years the menu had changed. People suggested that the order may have come from on high to sacrifice quality so they could make a bit more money but how bad could it be? I went for the vegan wings and jackfruit loaded fries. I'll concede that a meat-free meal doesn't lean into the strengths of a meat-focused restaurant. But even with that in mind I really couldn't have imagined what I was in for. The jackfruit loaded fries were good, not great, not even close to Red's former glory, but passable. The wings on the other hand were absolutely rancid. Quite honestly one of the most disgusting dishes I've ever tried. The staff were kind enough to remove the wings from my bill at my request. I have nothing but positive things to say about the staff and the atmosphere. But I have to say it's truly tragic to see one of the all time greats fall victim to (I assume) the penny-pinching ensh***ification is quickly rotting away everything we've ever loved.

We were really looking forward to this as a bit of a retirement do for a good friend of ours. All of us spend more time using our BBQs than ovens throughout the year and use real BBQs and smokers from Weber, traeger, masterbuilt etc. so we know what BBQ food is really about. A cross between disappointed and cheated is probably the best way to describe how we felt. We had a couple of the "big BBQ blowouts", a couple of burgers and a BYO(IB). The big BBQ blowout is not what that should be called. Firstly, it was not big. I was expecting a mound of meat that would give me meat sweats and indigestion just looking at it. There were a couple of wings which hardly had any meat on, some burnt ends which were ok, a few chunks of cheese and jalapeno sausage which was ok, a chunk of brisket which was probably the best bit of meat, and some pork, all piled into a 10 to 15cm diameter and 5 cm tall slop, on top of the Texas toast. The Texas toast was nice to be fair. All of the meat had same strange smell and taste, not what I would normally expect or experience many days out of the year when BBQing or smoking food. I couldn't quite put my finger on it and neither could the others until one of the other guys pointed out that they were bringing things out of the back in small sealed plastic bags and throwing them onto a hot plate for a couple of minutes. This explained a lot. The burgers were also cooked on a hot plate and not over coals, as you would expect a BBQ place to cook, unless they were smash burgers obviously, but they weren't. By far the worst bit of meat on the plates were the ribs. I have never had a tougher set of ribs in my entire life. The texture was exactly like beef jerky from a packet. It was honestly awful. I had Mac and cheese and pit beans as sides and they both had a skin on and were luke warm like they had been sat around. A couple of the others had desserts which we asked to be removed from the bill as two were sent back due to the donuts being raw stodgy mess, and the fried Oreos being covered in raw batter. One of them was actually supposed to be refired but it was clear they had forgot so we just asked for it to be removed from the bill. Positives were that the drinks and atmosphere were good and the servers were polite and friendly. But please, for the love of all that is holy, remove the words "True BBQ" from your name, as what we had last night was not even close to being BBQ food. If I'm honest, I'm astounded at the good reviews and can only think that these people have never had real BBQ food. Spent £240 and left disappointed.

Visited here on Thursday 27th of October for lunch. It was fairly quiet which suited me I had some work to do. I was looked after by Crystal who was very friendly, helpful and genuine. She was attentive without being intrusive. Quick to take food and drinks orders and helpful reccomending sides. The food was very good, I went for the BYOB tray which consisted of baby back ribs, giant chicken wings, green beans tossed with Red chilli, corn on the cob, pickled salad, smoked jalapeño and cheese sausages and texas toast with burnt ends. All very tasty and extremely filling. The food arrived very quickly and I opted for a can of ting which never dissapoints. I thought for the portion I reciv3d £28 was really reasonable. I'm still full 5 hours after eating it 😂 I can't fault my experience. However, having been a massive fan of reds 5 to 6 years ago, it was dissapointing to see the brand somewhat diluted from what it once was. I missed the reds true bbq sauce caddy on the table, the smokers and the boards showing what was smoking and how long it'd been in for. I totally understand that times have changed, and things move on and adapt with the times. For anyone visiting for the first time, I'd highly reccomend, for old skool fans, I'd just advise that things have changed.

And for someone who does not like chilli, it was a shock, and had to have more drinks. But if you like chilli 🌶 then it's good. But still would have to have known. Apart from that, one point it was good

Oh how I wish I had read the recent reviews before booking. The AI review on TripAdvisor sums it all up quite adequately. But if you care to read my review, strap yourself in. I have dined here once before, many years ago, and was under the impression that if a place is still open so many years after the fact, it must be doing something right. I was mistaken. I called earlier in the day to book but received no answer, so I booked online, which was a simple process and perhaps the best part of my overall experience. We were greeted warmly upon entry and seated on a sizeable table with decent leather sofas. We breathed a sigh of relief that we escaped the pokey tables for two near the entrance. It took a good ten minutes before our drinks order was taken and I made sure to have my food order taken at the same time. During the wait for the food, I had ample opportunity to look around and I notice a visible build-up of dust and a cobweb on the neon lighting above our seats. Drinks arrive and at £4 for a Whiteclaw, I'm happy enough with that. Food arrives a short moment later and my review can get to the "main meat" of the issues, namely portion size and missing items. My wife's order was missing her side order of macaroni and cheese. Both our orders were missing the side sauces. Her PitMaster sandwich was just fine. I would suggest a larger bread choice to accommodate the pork and slaw wanting to slide around. The brisket had a bit part appearance and was insufficient given that it is the first item listed. One sausage cut in half. My Three Meat Medley was lacking. Three finger size cuts of brisket, blink and you'll miss it burnt-ends and the pork did not stand out. The quality of the food was good enough. They did provide an abundance of slaw to fill the tray so take that as you will. Now we did mention to the wait-staff we were missing certain items and we were told they would be "looked into". I suppose the investigation did not proceed much further than that as we did not see these items at all. The next time we heard about that was when we brought up the issue again at billing, and we were told that the waitress would speak to the manager about a "small discount". Quite correct in small as we were refunded the exact amount a side order of mac n cheese would be and the charge for the missing sauces quite rightly omitted. Nothing else. Reds True BBQ have taken it upon themselves to enact the, in my opinion, scummy move of adding a "discretionary" service charge, preying upon peoples kindness and wish to avoid awkward conversations. How can I in all nicety inform my waitress that she was not up to scratch? Why is that my duty? When a waiter/waitress does everything right, I tip far in excess of the measly 12.5% you want to extract from me. But I have been in her shoes and waited tables, and I know what a lifeline tips can be when the hourly rate paid can be so insufficient. So Reds, that was my experience. I don't wish for an invite to email you directly and receive some potential discount on a future meal, because there isn't going to be one. Perhaps you can take onboard some things I noticed and make some changes. Perhaps I'll look at your reviews a year or two from now and see some glowing 5 stars and I will return organically. I really hope so.

Well.....I've eaten here several times before. I've had better visits. it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great this time (October '24). As a single diner I was placed next to a partition wall with a limited street view) so not a great start. Drinks are city priced, so not cheap.. i chose the most expensive choice fir a single person on the menu, i stated I wasn't into chicken on the bone, and the dish i chose came with jumbo chicken wings. i was told there wasn't an option to substitute, but the next best dish didn't seem as appetising, so I went with the large mixed platter, with wings, anyway at £32. The wings weren't jumbo and had hardly any chicken meat on them. They don't look at all like the pics on the menu or online reviews. The table next to me was a couple who ordered a burger and fries and their plate was more full than mine. The ribs weren't very meaty, I've had better at my local chinese, and the extra side of corn bread was ok, tho not amazing. I've been here before and had better meals so I don't know whether this was a glitch or they have become complacent. There is a pie n smash restaurant opposite, which I will try next time rather than return here. £50 for 1 disappointing meal (1 course, plus a drink and service charge) is just too much. (especially as the service charge is automatically added) I left what seemed a pile of meat on my plate, but it was just bones. The waiter was friendly, the vibe was ok but overall a disappointing visit, this time. when I left I went somewhere else for a cocktail and dessert as I was still hungry. To top it off as I was half way through my meal a fly landed on the middle of my plate and crawled all over everything, evading squwishing, which brought a premature end to everything.

Went back to Reds for the first time in a year or so and it was just as good as we remembered. Lee was brilliant, nothing seemed too much, would massively recommend Reds if you're in the mood for some proper tasty BBQ. Will be coming back alot sooner this time!

As a vegetarian I’d never considered paying Red’s a visit, but that was certainly a mistake that thankfully I’ve now rectified. I was invited, having been assured there were Vegetarian options on the menu but was not expecting there to be such a range of options available, or for it to be quite so good as it was, no tired salad or bland bean burgers here. I ordered the Meat Free BBQ tray with cornbread and Mac & Cheese which was loaded with 4 unique veggie BBQ items, none of which felt forced or like they were ‘making do’ just to have an option available. Better food than plenty of veggie only restaurants that I’ve been to with very clear thought put into what to include to be as authentic as possible and give you a proper BBQ experience.

The service was good and prompt. The onion rings were very greasy and lacked seasoning. The chicken wings weren't that great either. The buttermilk chicken burger was delicious. We asked for the bacon to be removed and they happily obliged to do it. The waitress later asked if it was OK for all the meats to be prepared together. That was a very thoughtful gesture.

I went in with low expectations for the menu relaunch, given the Reds turmoil over recent years, and was still disappointed. Reds actually opened my eyes to good quality BBQ food many years ago and sparked a passion of BBQ for me, now the tables have turned and everything I ate there on Friday I could cook better at home. Brisket - Undercooked, tough and poorly reheated. Wings - Small and tasted like they'd be done in a slow cooker and cooked for too long, mushy and didn't taste like they had seen any smoke or BBQ. Pulled pork - Same as the wings. Burnt ends - Can't even really call these burnt ends, they are tiny cubes, a burnt end should be something you can pick up and bite or have a good mouthful of, not a tiny cube of undercooked meat disguised in sauce. Sausage - Tasted good but didn't seem smoked. Ribs - Probably the best meat I had but that's not hard compared to the others. Texas toast - A piece of dry thin tasteless toasted bread, this ain't what texas toast is. Fries - These were good at least buts it's hard to mess up fries. Safe to say, this was Reds last chance for me, and I will never return. I'm assuming the original Reds chefs are long gone and those working now have never experienced real Texas BBQ or have any passion for the food. Sorry.

My girlfriend and I visited this establishment as a surprise birthday gift for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my food (pit dog, loaded fries, donut shake), but my girlfriend found her chicken tenders to be not as good as she anticipated and her fried oreo desert was sweet mush (she would have preferred ice cream over chocolate sauce with them as an option). Service was fantastic and the atmosphere was really nice. We did really enjoy our visit and would go again!

Food good, service fine. Only marked down a star because they put a 12.5% service charge on the bill at the end that you have to ask to be removed. The prices are already quite high for what you're getting. I don't mind leaving a decent tip if the experience and service is good but putting 12.5% on the bill at the end just spoils things a little.

We arrived without booking it was midweek and the restaurant was practically empty, never a good sign! The staff service us, the two ladies were lovely throughout. Explained the menu well, and told us about the free desserts. We ordered drinks, which came quite promptly. And then spent quite a while going over the menu, it’s fairly extensive and often when this is the case it means the food is not cooked fresh. The food came and took quite a while bearing in mind we were the only order on at the time, I was quite surprised to find the food Luke warm, almost cold. As hungry as we were we ate the food, I was pretty underwhelmed in fairness. I’ve eaten BBQ food before, used smokers and cooked proper fresh food myself. This I would struggle to believe was fresh, it tasted reheated and probably frozen. None of the food had any wow factor, this place is probably ok for kids. And teenagers but next time I’ll be trying somewhere else. Service wise, this place was good. Food wise was pretty poor and wouldn’t returned for this reason.

We visited this place a couple of weeks ago. The kids had free lunch which I am glad I spotted when I look that the bill. What we didn't like was the the gratuity was added to the bill without telling us or telling us that was optional. This was 12.5% and we didn't like this. You should ask customers up front for gratuity as otherwise it becomes a price increase

Firstly the service in here was ridiculous. We sat for 10 mins before even being asked for a drink. And whilst eating our food not one member of staff came over at any point during our meal to check on us or ask if we needed anymore drinks. Secondly the food, I was really looking forward to this place but was very disappointed. The Texas bread was lovely, the meat side of things was ok but nothing special at all, the brisket was what I was looking forward to the most but it was chewy and dry, the wings were not cooked. When i spoke to the waitress about them she said they are just the way they are smoked, absolutely not they were raw. So this let down the meal massively and we will not be returning due to the excuses made by the waitress over RAW chicken. I am a massive wing fan and go all over to try wings and no matter how they are cooked/smoked they are never raw.

Two months since last visited I can honestly say I won't be coming here again anytime soon. Is it really that difficult to allow customers time to digest food before bringing the main meals out to the table. Limited menu due to items being out of stock which is fair enough if it was a one off however this seems to rather consistent. Only positive is the server was nice and polite.

We've eaten here many times in the past and always really enjoyed it, however this time we were really disappointed. The cauliflower wings I ordered were absolutely enormous, about the size of a fist, leaving some parts extremely soft, while other parts were solid. The sauce was under the batter, making it grainy and really unpleasant. The wedge salad wasn't charred as it was supposed to be and had very little dressing, however what dressing it did have was very nice. The brisket burnt-ends loaded fries were nice, but nothing special with the meat a little bland and fatty. My children ordered the chicken tenders which were extremely bland, I'm not sure they were seasoned at all. The food has always been excellent on our previous visits, with the meat beautifully seasoned with a variety of BBQ sauces on the table to choose from so our experience was really a surprise. Our server was great, really friendly and helpful and removed the wings from the bill as they were completely inedible. This will be our last visit unfortunately as, at best, the food was average and, at worst, inedible.

I have't been into Reds for a while but found myself at a loose end and wanted to go back to a place I remembered fondly. Memory can embellish the past and I had a slight feeling in going back that it might not be the place I remembered as a carefree 20 something with no responsibilities. So in I ventured, now a a dad dawning on 40, wanting to re-live cherished memories. It was not a wasted trip You can gauge a eating establishment on three criteria Food Atmosphere Service Reds excels in all three. There's a real sense of authenticity about the place and the fact the service was as authentic is a rare thing. Lee, who served me, genuinely wanted me to enjoy my experience and I honestly feel he loved what he did. These days it's hard to find authenticity but if you value it get yourself to reds It was great in the past and it's great now Thank you

Visitamos hoy después de haber probado un pub cercano para la comida hace unas semanas y estar muy decepcionado. Me alegro mucho de haber bebido en el minero en muchas ocasiones pero nunca comimos y después de esta tarde definitivamente volveremos. El personal era fantástico la joven que nos atendió en el bar y tomó nuestra orden era encantador y se aseguró de que teníamos todo lo necesario. La comida no era simplemente flasheado fuera, desde mi asiento podía ver al chef creando nuestras comidas que sí tomó un poco más de tiempo que decir sus cucharas locales y pub cercano (que siempre me molesta que la comida puede estar listo tan rápido) todas las comidas a la llegada eran piping caliente y delicioso. Afortunadamente optamos por las patatas fritas gruesas que eran enormes, muy recomendable!
