We ordered from Red Rum Cafe and had our lunch delivered through Just Eat. It was made and arrived earlier then the estimate window. A treat to get lunch delivered as not many companies deliver in this area so we were happy. The food arrived warm, generous, fresh and very tasty. We would highly recommend and will definitely be ordering from this restaurant again in the future! Thank you very much for the lovely lunch! Thank you!!

Decided to go to the cafe before an afternoon at Lingfield Races. Ordered a Ham & Cheese omelette with chips only had to wait a few minutes, very good sized omelette and loads of chips both were tasty and of a good quality. Staff friendly and cafe very clean with a good atmosphere. Will definitely go back next time I'm having an afternoon at the racecourse.

Stopped here for breakfast after staying at The Star Inn. We didn't fancy a pub breakfast and had seen the Red Rum the day before - so pleased to decided to visit. There was a great choice of breakfast dishes catering to all tastes and dietary requirements. Service was great, with really friendly staff. It's quite a small cafe so did feel quite busy and can be a little noisy when the train is going (worth going just to see what I'm talking about) but it has a great atmosphere, is really good value and is lovely for kids

The restaurant is right in the centre of Lingfield, there is some parking outside and a free car park about 100 metres away. This would be a very difficult restaurant to use if use of a wheel chair was required. The entrance is narrow with a step and the tables inside are very close together. There is a small unisex toilet available. As I say it is small and basic, reasonably well presented but now looking a bit tired. It can be busy and cramped, so do not be surprised if you turn up and cannot get in. This is especially true on a weekend or race days. I am not sure if you can book a table. Another word of warning, it appears at this time they only take cash. The service is good, attentive and polite. It can be a bit slow when it is busy. The food overall is very good and there is a good selection of dishes available. It is hot, well cooked and very tasty, it's a real plate full and definitely not diet friendly. It can vary on occasions, but overall I have no issues with it. It is however good value for money for what you get. Great for a good breakfast but could do with a spruce up.

I love to support independent business and there are are some amazing cafes and delis around, this is sadly not one of them, the ingredients appeared to be the cheapest they could have possibly got hold of, the sandwiches were frankly terrible, the pudding equally bad, the service was friendly and I really hope they improve their food. Also PLEASE get rid of the plastic boxes you are putting takeaway items in.

Called in at this spotlessly clean cafe on a Saturday morning before an early start at Lingfield races. Really efficient staff and a good selection offered on the menu. I went for a small standard breakfast and a tea (unusual for me to drink tea) and it really hit the spot and set me up for the day ahead.

Popped in for a quick lunch. We both had jacket potato’s. The menu said they were served with salad and olives. Ours arrived without olives, we didn’t say anything, we assumed they’d ran out. My friends jacket potato had some raw/hard bits, her coronation chicken wasn’t nice at all, more like cold chicken curry made with shredded chicken rather than chunks. My prawns were fine. Her latte wasn’t nice either, she ordered decaf, it was really dark, much darker than my regular latte. We went to the till to pay and noticed they had a huge bowl of olives....... They just hadn’t bothered to include them on our plates.

If you’re after a cooked breakfast this is definitely the cafe for you. They have a choice of plates from full English to scrambled egg and toast. The sausages were nice and the best thing about the meal was how ‘non-greasy’ it was. Nice service too. And at £6 for a cooked breakfast it’s hard to beat.

A clean cafe with what seemed to be a comprehensive menu but the signs stating the minimum number of people per table and the lack of card facilities were somewhat off putting. I visited during the week and was 'allowed' to sit alone at a table for two as I asked and said I needed to work whilst drinking my coffee but I didn't feel particularly welcome. Maybe because I didn't order a breakfast? I was also not asked what kind of coffee I wanted and just presented with a high fat latte when actually I'd have preferred an Americano. Bit of a shame as I regularly have half an hour to kill at that time of day and need somewhere to stop and read through papers before my next client.

Ordered a large full English and vegetarian breakfast with a tea and cappuccino. The tea came with the tea bag still in the cup rather than a tea pot, cappuccino was ok. Veggie breakfast was scrambled egg, beans, hash browns, tin tomatoes and mushrooms. Mushrooms tasted of cheap oil and toast was completely soggy made me want to heave. Full English looked ok husband said it was reasonable but the whole lot was £17.00 which is in my opinion expensive for a basic breakfast that wasn't even enjoyable. They even charge a £1.00 a go to watch a toy train go round a track which puts pressure on parents to appease there children. Would not recommend.

This cafe passes itself off as Italian. Oh yeah?My takeaway cappuchino was poor and I later had to throw it away.Where a decent Italian coffee like Lavazza? My chicken escalope with mozzarella had to be on baguette as (remember the Italian?) No ciabatta available....It was billed as Italian "gourmet," That it was not, though it tasted fine but I could not detect the mozzarella? That, together with the cappo, came to £7.75 not cheap for something insubstantial and, in part, of poor quality. The names on the usual hygiene / company law certificates, as did the person who served me, indicate Eastern-European origin. Nothing Italian there either! There are a few other choices in the village / town that I should try if next around but certainly not here.

Red Rum is a well run, clean and imaginative little cafe. The name comes from the proximity to Lingfield Racecourse. And possibly something to do with the little train that children can see ride around the ceiling for a pound in the machine. This is a place I frequently visit for lunch. You can get something decent from a wide-ranging menu for under a tenner. Portions are generous, quality is at the higher end for greasy spoon cafes, service is exceptionally good. Ideal for example for walkers or people looking for a filling snack. Personally I recommend the chili con carne, and my daughter loves the chips or Spag Bol. It's never going to get a Michelin star. But if you want something good and decent quick, you can't go far wrong at Red Rum.

I have been in The Red Rum cafe a few times before in the last 18 months with a good friend of mine who lives very locally to it. On previous occasions, I have not paid too much attention to the food, service etc, but this time I was on my own - literally!, as you will read later - and that made the 'experience' one that has prompted me to put digit to keyboard.I visited TRRC about a week ago. It was about 10am and, even though it's the only cafe in Lingfield village centre, it was EMPTY. It was not a race day (Lingfield Park racecourse is only half a mile along the road) nor was there anything much going on in Lingfield at all....I sat in one of the booths on the left hand side and had hardly taken the menu from it's slot before I was 'jumped on' by one of the staff telling me I could not sit there. There is a sign on the wall above the sugar which reads... 'This table is for 4 or more people' (note - 'people', not 'customers'.... tells you a lot already...) I made a point of looking around the cafe (it has approx 28-30 covers) hoping the staff member would take the hint, but no. So, I got up and went toward the smaller booths on the right of the cafe.... I then noticed that they also had signs above the sugar which read 'these tables are for 2 or more people'. Hmmm.......... So, I was left with sitting on one of the black tables in the middle and right in the window (I am not a poseur and don't particularly like having people waking past the window watching me inserting baked beans into my facial orifice........ I sat down on a hard seat (the ones in the booths are nicely padded) and surveyed the menu..... I chose the 'Bubble Breakfast':- one sausage, one fried egg, beans, bubble (small portion as it turned out) and something else which escapes my memory. Including the coffee, that was ...... £6.90. A little steep, but I held out hope of being dazzled by some excellent ingredients to justify the price tag..... I'll come back to that later....Right,... while I was waiting for my food, a chap who seemed to be well known to the staff came in and sat in one of the booths CLEARLY labelled for 'more than 2 people'.... I waited to see him moved to one of the central black tables. Instead he was willingly served by the same member of staff who had insisted I moved from the original booth. A few mins later and a party of 3 people came in, who also seemed to be known to the staff. They sat in one of the booths now behind me CLEARLY labelled as being for 'more than 4 people'. I waited for them, too, to be moved. Instead - and you're probably already there, Dear Reader, - the same member of staff happily took their order.Clearly there is one rule for 'known patrons' and one for the rest of us who, seemingly, should know their place and sit where they are told. Now back to the food..... As I said earlier, at the price, I was expecting good quality ingredients. One of my bug bears with cafe breakfasts is the quality of sausage and baked beans..... For those of you of a certain age who, like me, remember when Iceland was Bejam, will know what a living hell can be contained within a sausage skin when you remove just about everything that gives you a clue that it's contents were once called Piggy and led a reasonably happy life until it gave up it's existence in order to bring one satisfaction at breakfast time.I can honestly say after eating the sausage on my plate last week at The Red Rum Cafe, that the pigs of North East Surrey can sleep peacefully in their styes tonight (and every night!) as there is practically NO chance of them EVER ending up on a plate in this establishment - either in a sausage skin or as bacon! I CANNOT remember the last time I ate such a bland, tasteless and textureless 'sausage'. And as for the beans.... Heinz, they were not......If the owners are reading this, I wish to make it clear that the ONLY reason I paid the bill (with a staff gratuities dish right under my nose too!!!!) is that my friend who lives nearby goes in there regularly (and ALSO got moved recently!!!!!) and they may have recognised her and tied her up with me - and I would not want them having a go at her.Won't be wasting my time and/or money patronising this place again.

The Red Rum Café is a very friendly, homely and comfortable place to visit. Chris the owner, and the other staff always welcome you with a smile. I go there quite often, have a coffee or a snack and read the paper. They have a steam train that runs around the ceiling and entertains the small children for 1 gbp. The food is delicious, because it is cooked right there when you order. Hopefully, after November they will still be able to serve hot meals, as the Council only gave them a licence to serve hot food until November this year. I have signed their petition to hopefully, make sure that this Council do not spoil this wonderful convenient and friendly café we have in Lingfield. One other café only serve small cakes, and lunch snacks, and then of course there is a Costa Café. Good luck Chris, and keep up the good work. Yes, Chris has been successful and they now have a permanent hot food licence.

We went to Red Rum for brunch and ordered the large breakfast and pancakes. The prices (£18 for 2 breakfast and 2 small hot drinks!) were high, which would be acceptable if the food matched, but it did not. The plate was cold, the food was lukewarm, the sausage had never been near a pig, the bacon was fatty, the beans were cheap and watery, the eggs were cooked in mould, and the tea was on ration, in fact it was very disappointing. We like a greasy spoon just as much as a top quality breakfast, and this was neither. The cafe itself is fine, there is a nice model railway but was not used as a pound needs to be inserted to make it go round?! Next time, we will just eat at home.

Really super place. Have to admit I'm a regular! The breakfasts are yummy - freshly cooked to order so obviously a slight delay before your plate arrives, but absolutely worth the wait. A warm welcome is guaranteed at this bright, clean, good value cafe

Visited the Red Rum cafe for lunch on 13th October, meeting a friend for a catch-up. Very laid back place to eat. No pestering you to wolf your food down and free up a table. The chilli con carne here is delicious and quite different but tasty nonetheless. The all day breakfast was good quality, well cooked and satisfying. They offered pancakes with fresh fruit and syrup which is quite extraordinary in a small cafe. It was well worth trying. All in 3 teas, 2 meals, 2 puds - just over £21. Brilliant quality, generous quantity, nice place to chat for a couple of hours. We'll definitely meet up there again

We ordered from what was stated as their "Premium" sandwich range which was to be served with roasted vegetables and crisps. What a joke. The bread was rock hard and stale, like eating a rusk and there was one slice of courgette, 2 slices of pepper and 3 (yes, I said 3) pringles. And to add insult to injury, the pringles were soft! It cost a shade under £15 for 2 sandwiches and 2 cold drinks. You're not even paying for good service, as you order at the counter and they come and plonk it down in front of you. What a rip off.

Have been here twice now so writing this review on the two visits.First time I went I thought it was fantastic .... It wasn't busy and the food was served hot, well presented and tasty.Second time I went I was really looking forward, when I arrived the cafe was really busy. Took ages for my order to arrive and when it did it was warm, not as tasty and very oily.I will give the place a third try - and depending on that visit will depend if I give up on the place or return.

Decent breakfast baguette at a fair price with competent service. Staff are friendly and good with looking after little ones. Always nice to support a local business, would use again.

If we are planning on breakfast out, the Red Rum Cafe is always near to top of out list. It's convenient, parking is usually easy, and the prices are very reasonable. You always get a warm welcome and the service is quick and efficient.

Very noisy, really slow service, tasteless food, tea like you get in McDonald's hugely over priced and over rated. Baguettes were the ones you or heat yourself and under cooked, sausages were tasteless!! And I do mean tasteless, very greasy as well.Won't use again, could've got a better, cheaper sandwich from the coop opposite! £1.20 for a tea!!! 7.20 for two baguettes

Its not very often that my partner and I have mid morning breakfast, but we were glad that we did on this occassion. The Caffè was bustling for mid- morning and the decor was just right. The proprietor seemed very in control and attended to everyones needs. The hunger buster and normal breakfasts tgat we ordered were just right and well cooked for what was veru reasonably priced.A nice place for a catch up or some light refreshments. Well worth a visit.

The entry level breakfast in this well appointed café is £5.90. For this you get two rashers of OK but rather salty bacon, an egg nicely fried in a griddle ring and presented on lightly fried bread, a truly nasty cheap and disgusting sausage (the large two ply 'restaurant quality' paper napkin was probably more nutritious) and a cup of tea. Staff OK, pretty busy so it cant be generally too bad but a truly disappointing and hugely overpriced breakfast.

We recently had a family break in Lingfield, staying at the Marriott on the racecourse which was very good but the breakfast was pricey for all 4 of us.We ventured into Lingfield and found the Red Rum Café in the High Street.Really friendly greeting and excellent choice of breakfasts on offer. We went back each morning and tried 2 or 3 different breakfasts between us which set us up nicely for the rest of the day.Loved the model train which went round a track along the picture rail of the café - very unusual.Generous helpings, not too greasy, excellent cup of tea and toast at no extra cost.If we head back that way we will definitely have breakfast at the Red Rum.

I've been to this cafe for just a cup of tea and, more recently, for lunch. You get a great welcome and very friendly service from start to finish (but not intrusive). I had the all day breakfast. This came with tinned tomatoes, which I don't like. The waiter commented on this and said to ask for fresh tomatoes next time. Will definitely be going back!

Great service from a really enthusiastic member of staff. The food was good as usual, if not spectacular. It was very quiet when we visited.

The food was lovely but what makes this place special are the people that work there.

My brother, mum and her friend went here as a nice treat for lunch which was a break from studying and a catch-up, everyone was more than happy with the service received and looking at the other reviews I can deny that we had any of the same problems others have reported (like slow wait time) even though it was fairly busy.
