We had a wonderful Sunday lunch, the 3 roast plate was delicious. Our server, Paige, gave us excellent care.

As much as I high end restaurant as a gastropub. The extensive menu leaves you spoilt for choice. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. Excellent service from Kathy.

After a 6 mile walk we were looking forward to treating ourselves with a tasty lunch. We both went for the special of the day, Steak pie with mash and vegetables. The pie arrived hot and looked splendid and unusually fully encased in pastry rather than just a topper. Unfortunately inside the pie was a real disappointment, it consisted of a rich sauce with very little steak. It was more like a shredded mush, such a let down. At around £19 each this was not acceptable.

Lovely food and very nice and cosy inside. The main reason for my review is to mention our waitress, Naomi. She went above and beyond when my little girl fell ill during dinner. Lovely old country pub. Food for our group of 6 was brilliant although a little on the pricey side (especially kids meals).

Booked a special birthday meal. Food was cold, had to ask for condiments, no one checked our meal was OK only had one drink as no one around to ask for a second one. Not the 1st time food and service has not been great.

Visited today 20 March. Great food and nice pub/restaurant. Really nice staff. Was busier than I'd expected and they perhaps needed an extra staff member to keep up. Will definitely be back again.

We had a great time at the red lion i would highly recommend it. we had a very good server called jack who was very fast and very friendly and chatty he also made a lovely job of my brothers birthday which we all really enjoyed.i had a really good experience!!

Speaking as someone who has visited frequently, we were served luke warm food and luke warm coffees. We got a mediocre apology and one of us got nothing but a laugh when asking to pay for their almost cold coffee. This is not an example of customer services, plus it's not a cheap pub to visit. It's a bit sad, really.

Had lunch today with a friend and the food was incredible, I went for a chicken burger and the pouched pear, it was faultless. I would like to also mention our server Kathy who was very attentive, friendly and helpful. She asked if we was warm enough, asked how our food was, checked if we needed anything else. Just incredibly lovely. Thank you x

Excellent food for an upscale pub meal. We had the dirty burger, steak pie and chicken burger - all were really high quality. Good beer selection on draught and in the fridge, nice selection of alcohol free drinks. Kathy and Gemma were very attentive front of house staff.

Great sized meals and friendly staff. Loved the trio of meats roast dinner.

*Edit to say the promised voucher never materialised despite chasing it.* Sadly, a very underwhelming and disappointing experience. Our table wasn't ready on arrival, and when it was we were crammed into a small back room with little room to manoeuvre into our seats. It took an hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive which even for a busy Sunday feels like an excessively long time. The food itself was enormously disappointing for the price. The roast beef was delicious, but was let down by the rest of the food. Both the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were hard and dry, and no amount of gravy could rescue them. The rest of the table had similar issues with their meals too. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars and recognising it was a very busy Sunday, but given we paid around £20 per main meal I expected a lot more. Most other reviews are overwhelmingly positive so looks like we just had some bad luck which is a shame.

The staff was welcoming & helpful. We enjoyed the Today’s Special even though our original choice was sold out, we were offered alternatives. We thoroughly enjoyed the desserts and the wine list in a relaxing ambient.

The food was great with perfect portions. The service was excellent and super friendly. A traditional friendly country pub atmosphere. We will come and I have already booked for Mother’s Day. I can’t wait to come back!!!

We drive past the Red Lion regularly and it always looks nice so decided to book for Saturday lunch. We ate in the restaurant. The menu was nice and varied. Our food was well cooked, nicely presented and delicious. The trio of desserts was fab! Jack who served us was very friendly and attentive. All in all a lovely experience and we'll be back soon.

We were eating our starters and our mains were delivered. No apology was given and she walked off ignoring that we were not happy and she never came back. My last few experiences have been of the senior people not being interested in their customers. Everyone else has been very friendly and attentive.

Initially we were sat at a different table because our planned table was still in use, but when this one was right next a family with young kids, the hostess offered to move us and gave us our first drinks on the house. She was then incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was great too.

We had a wonderful evening at The Red Lion Welwyn . Server Jack was very attentive , polite and friendly without being over bearing . Our food and drink service was paced perfectly throughout our stay. We all enjoyed the foods we chose from the menu beautifully cooked presented it was delicious. Well done all The Redlion team for making this one of our top go to restaurants in Hertfordshire

This was our first visit and were really impressed with the quality of service, food and atmosphere. Staff were really friendly and welcoming.

Went for early valentines menu and the food was just out of this world. Pan fried scallops and Chipotle chicken for starters. Followed by 16oz Chateaubriand sharing steak was just divine. Followed by Poached Pear and Chocolate brownie. Was also served by Naomi and she was friendly and attentive to our needs. Made friendly conversation which just added to the whole atmosphere of the evening. Do not go often as like to keep it as a special treat but cannot recommend it enough. Looking forward to our next visit.

Only popped in for a drink. Very popular. The restaurant looked busy so I'm sure the food was good. Situated along the side of what used to be the old A1 before the A1 motorway was built. There's a lot of history here. I love you the place.

Absolutely perfect atmosphere as we walked in the door. It was my brothers 50th and there were 8 or nine of us plus kids. I was early so drinks at the bar while we waiting for the others, table was already to sit at. We did over crowd the bar at one point so moved to the table and there was only another party in that part. We are not the quietest when we are all together but there where not any issues we all had a fantastic time. The staff and food complimented each other perfectly. Very friendly and well cooked food that came out at the correct timings. Drinks flowed, staff took care of the birthday cake and the balloons where no issue. Its the first time in a long time I had no reason to mention something was not quite right. Looking forward to returning soon but I live in Somerset so now I have 2 reasons to visit. The food I have listed below is far from what we had.the menu is far more extensive

Great food with veggie options, friendly but not in your face staff. Our table was just a bit too close to the mantlepiece and a pillar, so we had to ask for it to be moved out!

A nice restaurant serving a wide range of meals cooked to a decent standard. Our waitress Kathie was very personable and helpful throughout the evening.

Hired out the private dining room for my Mum's 60th birthday for 25 poeple. everything was really easy to organise. Pre ordering food was simple and straightforward and I was called several times to check everything was going ahead as planned. Felt really well looked after and the staff on the night were absolutely amazing. They were attentive and helpful in hiding and bringing out the cake. The food was delicious and we all had a great time. Thank you all so much for a great evening.

Don't normally write reviews but the service from Naomi was exceptional last night - well done.

I live in Midlands and have a resturant, so when I think a place is serving an excellent food , I know a thing or two. I had salmon and my friend had their special mature steak. Both were cooked to perfection. Everything about the dishes were perfect, the portion , the quality the taste and all the sides. Even the little side sweets with hot drinks are quality. Add the smiley and attentive hostess made it a perfect lunch . Thank you .

Was served by Alfie, he was really attentive amd helped me figure out what to eat amd drink. The chef Alina made the best squid i have ever had here at the red. I would 100% recommend the squid here.

We had a lovely meal at the Red Lion, our waiter was Jack, he was helpful, polite and friendly, food was delicious.

Booked tablle for 2.00pm No one at desk to show us to table but was visible from desk so sat down. Checked the menus, decided what we wanted. Stood at bar for over 12 minutes waiting as solitary barman dealt with single customer. Gave order and paid. Barman bought our drinks over to table and very soon our meals arrived. The cod and chips was absolutely lush. The fish was just so fresh and was definitely the best cod I had had in years. It just fell apart and the batter was perfect. All in all a perfect birthday lunch! Many thanks.

Very good experience, only feedback would be that the roast potato’s were not to my taste being so heavily loaded with garlic. I think I’ve had less garlic in garlic bread before. The service was very attentive, but felt like we were talking to a robot, not at all personable from our server, but everybody else was great.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere.

Fantastic food!! Lamb rump with harissa rubs was cooked to perfection and the pork belly was delicious. Staff were busy but visible and were happy to help when asked. Personal opinions of the food were offered and everyone was friendly. Atmosphere was good but small personal qualm was the awful chart pop music being played…even Christmas Mariah would have been better! 😂 A great visit though, will be back!
