We have been here many times before but our last visit was somewhat disappointing. The food took a long while to arrive and we found our waitress a little curt when we asked if we could have more custard. After spending £150 for 4 we thought it wasn't unreasonable to politely ask if my son could have a little more as the serving was very small. The waitress said that it was the portion size which came with the dessert but she would see if it would be possible. To be honest after waiting 45 minutes for our starter and a further 30 for our main course, we didn't think we were being demanding. We won't be rushing back again. Food was alright but overall pretty mediocre and would have appreciated being told there was a long wait time especially when in advance we had been told our table had to be vacated after two hours but we were still eating at that time because of the slow service.

Went for a drink with a few friends and was pretty disappointed. Service even at the bar is pretty slow and it wasn't even that busy. Sat at a table and took waitress some time to clear the glasses from a previous customer, actually had to ask twice. Then she forgot to clean the table. Other than that ok for a drink.

First time I have visited since last owners and have no issues with either the food or staff. There were 6 of us on the table and everyone enjoyed 3 courses. The decor is lovely, not in your face, the eating area was nice and clean. Hope to dine here in the very near future.

. . . ! No es lujoso, pero es totalmente genuina. . . .

Pleasant enough pub, lacking in imagination. What looks like a ping and ding menu must struggle to compete with the Swan at Salford, just down the road. Warm welcome, but only one beer offered on tap. Must be the price they have to pay to landlords Charles Wells.

Very extensive menu which raised alarm bells before we went, how can 1 small establishment do so many things well, the answer is they can't. I had the deep fried Brie which was ok, shop bought but you could tell the oil had been used quite a lot before, good job I'm not a vegetarian as I'm sure the oil had been used for meat. I had the veggie chilli which was a good sized portion, bit too spicy for me and no warning on the menu that it was that hot, could have done with some sour cream to help. 2 colleagues had the hunters chicken which didn't look very nice and apparently it wasn't. 1 lady only took 2 bites and left the rest, the other ate about a quarter and left the rest. When the plates were collected the gentleman said "oh didn't you like the meal" they both responded to say "no it wasn't very nice at all". No apology or to ask what the issue was. Restaurant wasn't busy, only 1 other table occupied. Whole place is a bit dated and could do with a refurb. My suggestion would be to slim down the menu and do a few things really well. Don't think I will be back.

Popped in here for lunch while waiting for my car repair nearby. Had a delicious tuna sandwich served on a bread board with a few leaves and coleslaw. Not the cheapest (£7.50 including a J2O) but fresh and tasty - and very handy for The Car Doctor!

O atendimento excelente, gentil. Bons vinhos. Lugar agradavel, no meio do nada.

We needed a quick dinner and having not eaten here for about 5 years thought we would try it. Great choice and friendly service so we will be going again just to see if this will be the one -- that 'local-friendly-not-too-expensive-but-great-value-when-you-don't-really-feel-like-cooking-place'!!

We had stayed at the Red Lion on many occasions over many years up until around 2005. Their food had always been first class, breakfasts and a terrific menu for dinner, so, whilst travelling back to Staffordshire from London and in need of a good meal .... It's only 5 minutes from Junction 13 of the M1 and a million times better than any motorway cafe!! As we walked into the bar I recognised the owners, Bob and Pauline Sapsford, but more to the point, they recognised us! Whilst the menu had changed, the classics and favourites were still there....we were in for a good meal! And so it proved. We started with crab cakes and garlic king prawns, still as delicious as I remembered, and followed these with chicken au poivre and Ribeye steak with torpedo prawns. But the menu is tantalising and when we stayed there from 1994 to 2005 we could have a different meal each night for four nights and every one was superb. Highly recommended....plus they have some great wines and ales on as well! This was so good, in fact, that we went back again 4 nights later along with three friends from America whom we were bringing back from London! And they were equally impressed!

What a lovely gem of a pub. Very friendly pub in a lovely little Bedfordshire village! We were here today for a Sunday roast and after eating out at more expensive restaurants in the area and being disappointed by their high prices and average food, this was on another level, it was beautiful!! Everything was freshly cooked and home mad at a very reasonable price. Shall definitely be returning.😁

This place could be amazing but it is lacking atmosphere and the food is very ordinary. It needs a total overhaul. Everything feels dated and they need to look at other restaurants/brasseries in other area. It always seems half empty. Wouldn't go back again.

The staff were pleasant and the food was fine but oh so slow! From the time we arrived we were waiting at every stage. Waiting to be seated, there was no one in sight. Eventually we were shown to our seats and waited again for someone to take our order, waited again and, after being there over 30 minutes, our tea and coffee arrived, but no milk. The coffee was fine but the tea wasn’t hot, but drinkable as long as I drank it straight down. Another long wait for sandwiches and again a wait for cakes. I would have preferred everything to arrive at once so that I could decide how long to take to eat them. As it was we were there over 2 hours and I was bored. I would hate to be there if it was full as today less than half the tables were taken. Not the best experience of afternoon tea I’m afraid.

Stopped in for a tea, coffee and scone for the first time this weekend as we happened to drive past. It was all lovely and reasonably priced. However it is disappointing that a venue in such a prime countryside location doesn’t at least allow dogs inside somewhere. I imagine their foot traffic would increase substantially if dog walkers could come in for a post/pre walk refreshment.
