4 of us for dinner last night. Old English Country pub serving fabulous food. Service was excellent, food was perfectly presented and piping hot, cooked just right. Black pudding starter, amazing, duck, steak pie, chicken snitzel all delicous. The most perfect treacle sponge pudding 2 of us have ever eaten!! Jam Roly Poly amazing and all 'proper' custard. Will definitely return as we're only a few miles away and recommend to everyone. Thank you for a lovely meal.

First time at this lovely pub. It was nice and busy and a lively atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. The menu was great with specials and unusual dishes as well as some pub favourites. It was fantastic food, home made and of a very high standard. It was just really really fantastic food! The home made trifle to finish off was the best I've had ! Oh and it's dog friendly which was great for us with our spaniel.

I like to look at a menu and be excited, I like to look at a menu have options that tempt me, I like to dither over a glass of wine while deciding what will be the most enjoyable to eat. The menu at the Red Lion failed on all counts and rather than looking for an exciting and tempting meal I found myself searching for the least objectionable choice. Had it not been for the fact I was there with family I would have left the restaurant rather than order food.

I visited the Red Lion with my partner and his family, who are real foodies.. on my recommendation, so the pressure was on! First off, the lady behind the bar who took our orders and the gentleman who served us were top notch; cheerful, welcoming and attentive. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Now, the food... was absolutely delicious. Every dish was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. We had 17 dishes between us. We will definitely be back.. oh and the honey and vanilla salmon with elderflower sauce was a real treat. Thank you, everyone, for a lovely evening.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Firstly, the unacceptable things that should never happen in any professional kitchen: do not send out stale bread; do not cook your chips in the same fat as the fish so that they, too, taste of fish; do not send out ice cream in warm glasses; do not put things on the menu that are not available for days, and do not ignore complaints. Secondly, the food itself, which was all awful without exception. We formed the impression that the owners had utter contempt for their customers, so poor and over-priced was the food. The sour dough bread and olives had clearly been out for some time. The olives were dull and starting to shrivel, and the bread was so stale that the cut edges had turned white and hard. When we complained, we were completely ignored. The halloumi fries with raspberry jam were equally inedible as a dish. Instead of lightly stewing fresh raspberries into a jam, the chef had clearly just emptied a considerable portion of cheap catering jelly onto the fries. The jelly itself largely tasted of sugar, and certainly not raspberries. The dish simply did not work, and was overwhelmed by the sweetness of the jam-like substance. In desperation, I scraped the jelly off the fries and put it onto the sourdough bread. It didn't make the bread any more edible, but at least I could eat the fries, although I'm not sure why I bothered. I should have sent them back, as they were edible but not enjoyable. Both main courses were equally awful. I cannot believe that the chef tastes the food, and has certainly not demonstrated any ability to understand what makes a good, or even average dish. The salmon, which was well overcooked, was completely swamped by the alleged elderflower cream sauce. It was impossible to detect any cream, because the sauce tasted solely of sweet elderflower cordial. When inexplicably added to the sweet honey glaze, everything, again, just tasted of sugar. The stinky cow sirloin strips was possibly the worst dish of the day for so many reasons, but it would be a close contest. Again, the brioche bun had seen better days, and probably many of them. It was toasted, but overly so, and was so stale that it actually shattered when cut into. The steak, too was well overdone, with no discernable pepper. In contrast, both the mushroom and the onion in the onion ring were virtually raw. The chips have been mentioned above. It is utterly unacceptable to use the oil from frying fish to fry the chips. The oil was clearly not the freshest anyway, and the chips all had a strong fish taste. To some degree, however, all that is moot, unless eaten separately, because the blue cheese sauce overpowered everything else on the plate. Whilst it should have complemented an excellent steak, sensitively prepared, it took over and destroyed the flavour of everything else. The steak could have been anything, and the brioche bun rapidly just dissolved in the sauce to make a brown sludge on the plate. The low point was probably biting into the cheese rind, which had been left on. The desserts were not awful in themselves, but the experience was made so by serving ice cream desserts in warm glasses. We quickly lost the battle to eat the ice cream before it was all just a mixture of liquids in the bottom of the glass. A disappointing end to the worst dining experience for some time, and certainly the most expensive for that dubious pleasure. For so many reasons, this was an avoidable disaster, but the chef and some of the servers didn't seem to care. We were treated like a cash cow, who should be grateful for the opportunity. We would like to support local business and especially pubs, which can bring so much to a community. However, that business needs to treat its customers with respect, and there was too little of that on show here. Thin down the menu, replace the chef immediately with one who understands flavours, and start running a professional kitchen with the emphasis on the customer and food that delivers more than just a sugar hit and one flavour per dish.

We visited this lovely village inn whilst staying with friends in the area. Our Sunday lunch was absolutely wonderful. Cosy surroundings, really patient staff (we had children and dog in tow) and a fantastic varied menu. Sunday roasts were perfect - quality local meat, lots of good veg, Yorkshire puds and gravy. The steaks were great too and the nicest, wholesome kids’ meals we have seen for a long time. A place to relax and savour the food and company. Brilliant all round!

My wife and I tried the Red Lion at Lunchtime. We both ordered Linguini with clams and enjoyed a pleasant drink. When our meals arrived, I tried a clam and found it very gritty so immediately tried another and found it the same. I told the waiting staff who apologised and brought me a menu so I could order a different dish but I was then met by the owner who asked if there was a problem. I explained again but he insisted that my clams were from the same packet as my wife's clams and she had found no grit. He continually repeated this phrase and told me we would still have to pay for our uneaten meal. We did not pay and will not be returning.

Raithby is a delightful village nestling in the Lincolnshire Wolds, not far from Spilsby, the Dubai of the North. It's about 10 years since we last visited and it has changed a lot. There are multiple choices for where you settle; a room with books, the cosy bar area or outside or a more formal dining setting. I ordered a sausage sandwich. Now, if you order a sausage sandwich, what you generally get is one iffy sausage, cut laterally into three between two slices of Warburton's. This sausage sandwich was the Rolls Royce of sausage sandwiches. A word about Lincolnshire sausages; they are a delicacy and these are five star Lincs sausages. My sausage sandwich consisted of three! It was in some tasty sourdough bread with American mustard and perhaps a drizzle of balsamic glaze. It took some getting through, but I managed, just about. The pub is very dog friendly. Ok, but I prefer not to see them sitting on the chairs in the bar. I made a special effort to thank the chef and was treated rather coldly. He's best left to the kitchen and not front of house.

We came here a few weeks ago and I have to say everything was nearly perfect. When sitting near the specials board, we found this to be a problem because it was a busy night and therefore people kept coming and standing next to our table whilst eating to look at the board which isn't great as we wanted to eat our meal without being disturbed. The good thing about the desserts board is it is transportable - I feel strongly that the same thing needs to happen with the specials board as this would be much better for anyone sat at that table any day of the week. This is the only thing I could say that was bad about this place - other than the dusty bathroom - cobwebs hang in all corners! The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were so lovely and welcoming. The man at the bar was so lovely as well as the chef! Great experience apart from where we were sat, will be back again and will HAVE to request to sit elsewhere, the new owners are doing great! :)

We only discovered this wonderful establishment towards the end of our holiday. We were staying nearby so this was easy to get to but I would advise travelling a few miles to taste the superb food. A good menu with specials on top. There were four of us in our party and the food was so delicious we returned the following night. Everything we had over the two nights was cooked to perfection, presented well and was delicious. One of the pub's favourites is called 'The stinky cow!' - a veritable feast of a meal with strips of sirloin, stilton, mushroom, peppercorn sauce, tomato, garlic sour dough and superb chips. It was absolutely delicious but so filling I had no room for a dessert! This place is a must if you are anywhere near Riathby by Spilspby.

We hadn’t visited for a few years but heard on the grape vine that things had changed. With a group of friends, we had lunch there yesterday. There was a good choice of specials and on the main menu some with little twists that made some of the dishes a little different. Most of us chose the pub type meals except one but all were delighted with their meals. I chose the Whitby scampi as it isn’t always as ‘Whitby’. Cooked correctly and served with home made Tartar Sauce, correctly cooked, quality peas and chips. My husband chose bangers and mash - also good but he commented on how nicely cooked his savoy cabbage and cauliflower were. Not raw or not mushy! Good helpings all round. All our friends were impressed and we will definitely be calling again. It has been recently taken over so the decor is tired and there was a hiccup with card payments that we were pre-warned about. If these were corrected, I would have given an excellent rating.

Excellent service food was 1st class and great value for money. Everything is cooked from fresh. A beautiful 17th century building, we will definitely be back to The Red Lion At Raithby by Spilsby.

We stayed at the Red Lion with friends from Australia. Great pub with good pub food. We met up with some other friends who live locally and had not been to the pub before, they will return for sure. We live too far away for this to be our local unfortunately. The hosts are very welcoming and we enjoyed a good English breakfast after a good nights sleep.

If you are looking for delicious home cooked food in an "olde worlde" setting thats great value for money then i would recommend The Red Lion Inn at Raithby.I have eaten there numerous times recently and every meal has been a 5 star experience, service is excellent, food is definitely home made and cooked to perfection. The menu is is vaired and covers all tastes including vegetarian options whilst the bar is well stocked with well known brands, local ales and shorts,on week days there is a "two meals for £10" menu as well as the normal menu. The Red Lion Inn has a real country pub atmosphere and is set out in small rooms around a central bar for that cosy feeling.Set on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, Raithby is surrounded by lovely countryside so this pub makes an ideal resting place, they also do bed & breakfast too.The Red Lion Inn has a good size car park and a beer garden which will be lovely on warm summer evenings.RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Unfortunately, the Dunes Complex is definitely not wheelchair friendly. There are disabled parking spaces in the car park. However, they were all taken, and some didn't have Blue Badges visible. Once in the Dunes Complex, there are 2 more ramps to consider, the 1st one is quite steep, and the 2nd one is less of a hassle. If a wheelchair user or someone who has mobility difficulties wanted to get to the stage, they would have to ask staff for a further ramp. To get onto the stage itself, well, there are narrow corridors that a wheelchair does not fit through, and there are no handles or any form of mobility aid.

Staying in Aby village for a week's holiday and had to try the local pub. Exterior looks a bit "tired" but don't be put off - inside it's friendly. cosy and lots of character. Excellent choices of dishes on the menu and "daily specials" board - we especially appreciated the choice of gluten-free options and Dawn was happy to go through each option in detail. Good portions and served hot! Very tasty and wholesome. Wide range of dessert options too and it was evident from conversations with other diners, that Dawn would also be happy to adapt these just to suit individual requirements. Obviously very deserving of the many awards over many years.

I ordered a Sunday roast delivery from here and it went in the bin as soon as it arrived! Everything was burnt to a crisp and absolutely disgusting, I would not recommend eating here at all! I've heard from a few people how awful the food has been there for a while now but thought we'd give it a go for ourselves. Avoid at all costs and don't waste your money here!
