Lovely place but we asked for gin and tonics and it tasted completely only of tonic water. We went to ask for more gin and they were very nice about it but it still tasted like the weakest gin and tonic I’ve ever had, especially for £6.30. We ended up asking for them to add lime cordial for it to at least be drinkable but we were very disappointed.

Sat on the rooftop with excellent weather. We didn't eat there so I can't comment on the food. Service was great. Drink flowed freely. Lively evening all in all

Was looking for a chilled pub to have some drinks with a mate and catch-up, perhaps over a game of pool or darts. Luckily I was standing 3 mins away from here when I did a quick Google. Spent the rest of my night here. Amazing vibes. Lovely staff. Grear dart board. They even had. Foosball table and giant Jenga puzzle. Whole thing was for free as well. Highly recommend giving this place a look.

I have been regularly coming to the Red Lion due to its convenience from my office, however looks like I will look like I will need to find a new place to go with my colleagues after my experience today seeing their senior management team in action. Some lady whom I never seen before was shouting and screaming at staff who were in the middle of a very busy Thurs afternoon serving drinks and you have this crazy moo saying this ain't right and that's wrong. My personal experience is the staff are always warm and welcoming, but after witnessing this inappropriate behaviour by this ill tempered bully, it broke my heart and killed the vibe. How can a hospitality experience where I have gone to cheer myself up, make me feel sad! Seemed like some new lady manager has zero people skills, and made me and all colleagues feel so uncomfortable that we felt like saying let's go somewhere else. No one should have bare that type of treatment where staff are being shouted at in front of customers, even if something is out of place a good manager should pick a time and a place for a private conservation away from the public, but the treatment the staff endured made me realise they clearly work for a dictatorship who has unrealistic expectations which she wanted addressed in real time. The reason I go to the red lion is due to the ambience the staff create and the great service, to be shouted at for a door which she believed should be closed was so disappointing as this was causing people who had hoards of drinks were spilling as they trying to open this door. Truly was like a comic sketch lol. I won't be coming there again, if this rude new manager lady is onsite. Plenty more options in Shoreditch. Shame as they have a nice rooftop bar I would have enjoyed, avoid if this manager lady is on duty. Wish I had taken a picture of her, avoid like the plague. Update. You can keep your weak apology, if you are using law as an excuse to mistreat people. I know what I saw, and how it made me and colleagues feel. An entire group of people all agreed, that something so unsavoury is taking place in front of the general public, which is just wrong. How the staff put up with that toxic energy lingering around is beyond me. You should change the name from the red lion to red alert.

Amazing place big up Raghav the main man. Spotify Jam. Free pool. Simply unbelievable. YOU HAVE TO COME TO THIS PUB! Roof top is amazing when suns out. And even when raining there’s amazing cover.

I love this place so much. So accommodating, 3 floors of complete fun, really considerate bar staff include Thomas, Paul and Raghav. They allowed us control of the music which is amazing and rare for other pubs in London. One of the best pubs in London in my opinion.

So lucky to have found this establishment, lead by a warm & friendly host (Bar Manager). It sit’s between my home & work so I am now a frequent visitor. It’s a gem in Shorditch/Hoxton with four floors of quirkiness, something for everyone. If it’s not the spacious roof garden there is a Pool table, then Foosball on the floor below…both are for ‘free’. I love the Spotify integration where you queue up your favourite tunes to share. Along with that there is an individual sound system for pairing your own playlist on one of the floors. There much more to share about this place but I am feeling a little selfish right now as this is the morning after.

Thomas was a great server he did a shamrock on my Guinness. Paul was great he did a lovely pint of madri for me. Raghav is great all around. The service is outstanding. Has 3 floors and a table football and a pool table and it’s a great night out as there’s lots of space to dance.

Raghav, Paul and Thomas are amazing. This pub is THE vibe. Great service, pool table, table football, roof terrace and always showing the current sports fixtures. Would recommend to anyone visiting the old street area and perfect local spot. Thank you team!

The bar staff are amazing, Thomas is a delight, love being served by him, There’s so much to space, each floor is so much fun, free pool and a roof top what more could you want! Andddd you can play your own music so it’s basically a free club as well 10/10 love the red lion

When you enter the Red Lion (Hoxton), you are not merely entering a pub, but a FAMILY. I would die for this public house. Paul is oh so gentle, Thomas is always a shoulder to cry on…. And who could forget Raghav! Raggaz saved my backside back in Nam, when the Vietcong had us trapped against the tree line. I’ll never forget that day, even named my first born son Raghav. The Red Lion (Hoxton) is a symbol of brotherhood, salvation and hope. Valhalla is real, and it’s in N1 just off the A10. The pub also has 3 floors, a pool table, table football and karaoke. Great night out. Could do with a pub quiz every other Thursday or something.

Amazing roof top and the two rooms are so spacious with great entertainment. The bar staff are so lovely and efficient especially if you find Thomas and Paul. An amazing vibe a week round and a great time at the weekend.

The Red Lion is a place of wonder, great booze and pure vibes. Thomas helped me find my phone when I lost it. He’s such a life saver! The building is really unique - the rooftop is my favorite! On the middle floor you get to play your own music which I love! This is now my local pub!

Eden behind the bar is brilliant! Pizza was delicious and arrived quickly! The chill atmosphere downstairs is very nice as well as the slightly busier roof garden. 100% recommend for a Friday or Saturday night.

This is one of the best pubs I've ever been to in London. There are many floors but the main event is the roof garden. This is without doubt a hidden gem. There's a games room where you can play pool and arcade games and a meeting and function room 😊

In all my years in London, never have I experienced such a horrible customer experience. I used to like this pub and actually organise weekly after work events here. One Friday, I planned to just pass by the pub to say hi to some of my colleagues there and leave immediately since I had to be elsewhere. When I got in, I was stopped by a lady (who claims to be the owner of the pub) and she wouldn't let me go in any further without buying a drink. I explained to her that I would just like to say hi to my colleagues and I'm off but she insisted that I buy a drink first before leaving. She even suggested to check if my colleagues are actually there in the security camera. At that point, it was just ridiculous and insulting. After that, she told me that "In this country, people have to buy drinks first when going in pubs." Horrible customer experience and I am never going back to this pub again. We're already going to other pubs now to hold our weekly events and there are a lot of other better options around the area.

The owner of this pub, a lady who's name I can't remember nor care for, was abhorrently rude and quiet clearly laid comments at my friend that came with strong undercurrents of racism. For context, me and friends visit this pub every week, it would be fair to say we bring a fair deal of custom to the pub. A friend of mine popped in for 5 minutes, just to say hi before moving his night on elsewhere. Said friend, is also a regular at the pub. When he tried to head up the stairs, the pub landlady pulled him aside, and explained he needed to buy a drink. Politely (I could overhear just upstairs), he explained he was here for a few minutes, and did not have time for a drink. To omit a lengthy post, I'll cut to the chase: she explained to my friend, British but of Philipino descent, that "in this country, it's rude if you go to a pub and don't buy a drink". Several other nasty comments ensued. I often go to many other pubs and before buying a drink, will head to a corner where my friends are parked. How on earth is it OK to pull people as they enter a pub, and demand they buy a drink? And then to overlay a racist rhetoric: it just shows what an aweful publican this lady is.

Worst margarita ever, 10 pounds each for something undrinkable

A fine pub indeed. Tiny bar downstairs with the most wonderful person serving behind the bar. Excellent service and a happy disposition. Upstairs, a playroom if you like table football, further upstairs, another playroom if you like pool and even further upstairs a rooftop garden to enjoy the sunshine. An excellent place to enjoy a drink.

I am yet to try their iconic food. This place has 4 floors and the roof area is stunning. Like a korean setting with the string bulb lights. Also they have this arcade basketball game, it so much fun. Absolutely loved it. This would be a great place for small parties, bridal shower, stag's do and organised meet ups. You can rent floors and each one has toliets except the roof.

This place has changed so much over the past 20 years. I remember zee good old days when you could have a little dance in there on Saturday night. I even had an interview in that great little pub! The place is now amazing with the roof garden. It's well done without too much fuss and it is so lovely to have a high rise pint over Hoxton in the least pretentious and bestest pub in the area!

Interesting and full of character. Great meeting spot for social get togethers. If going to the rooftop, be prepared, it's a good hike 😀

The Red Lion - what a place. Went there of a sunny Sunday evening with girlfriend, as was enticed by the promise of an actually open rooftop (throwing shade on you Culpepper). Plus, having lived in Shoreditch for years, I had never even heard of it. A rooftop it certainly had, and although we didn't get sweeping views of East London, we got to play cards on a picnic bench in the sun. So all good. Otherwise, quite a bizarre pub, and I would love to know more about it and its normal business. It was almost empty at the time, and had a remarkably student union-y feel to it (something I reckon I'm qualified to comment on given an interminable 13 years of student-hood). Pool table, wipe down pleather sofas, a neon bar signs inside, DJ booth in a small room, one-person-only toilet door signs, very relaxed and casual bar staff. GF input on request: 'does everything you want it to do: its got a rooftop, its got a pool table, its got weird lines on the floor and serves £6 pints from plastic cups - what else could you want' ...Its hard to explain... it's like someone had themed it 'student union'... go check it out...

Not sure how much of a 'hidden' gem this place is, but that's how I'd describe it. Relatively cheap drinks, quirky decor across 3 floors, a pool and foosball table, and a roof terrace! :)

Nice rooftop spot, seems like the beer lines could be cleaned (but that's on par with a lot of pubs in London), staff were great but v slow at the bar.

Always a live and lovely spot to have evening drinks. Easy to get to from local stations and puts you right at the door of Shoreditch & Hoxton. Good vibes and lovely decor inside. Highly advised visit!

Staff were such a mess... which made it funny. Lost our reservation, insulted people who asked for non-alcoholic drinks, picked up cups with their mouths before serving us with them, generally abrasive customer service! Also tried to over charge for drinks, or insisting they were paid in cash when they had a fully functional card machine.... Every time someone went to the bar, they came back with a story - which is why this is getting a second star! Definitely an experience.

Bit dirty. Cup of sick left on the roof from the night before until 3pm in the afternoon. Decent boozer though.

Drop the inexplicable service charge, drop the apostrophes on your menu (Rum's lol), hire some more attentive staff and this place could be nice.

Amazing pub with a fantastic roof top and great selection of drinks. The staff are so lovely and phoned me the next day to say that they had retrieved my gold ring from down the sink after it slipped off while I was washing my hands! I can't believe they managed to get it out and have been so kind to go to all that effort, contact me and look after it for me. The cheesy chips are delicious too! Thank you Red Lion <3

Roof terrace is well worth a visit

This is one of my favourite pubs in London. Great location, lots of character and cheap pizza!!! What more could you want?!?! A rooftop garden?? They've got one!!!

Drinks delivered late but the bar man was apologetic and gave us free drinks to apologise. The first floor felt like an unused party room so if you’re looking for a nice relaxing time here, use either the ground floor or rooftop when the weather is nice.

Used to be a really nice place but they've changed the staff recently. After spending the evening there, getting food and a few drinks, my wife asked for a glass of water just before we left. The guy asked for £1. I thought he was joking but he was serious and refused to give her a glass. I won't be going back until they get replace this guy.

Uno de mis pubs preferidos en Londres. Tiene varios pisos cada uno con un ambiente diferente. Se encuentra en el animado barrio de Hoxton muy cerca de Shoreditch. Buena cerveza y precios estandar. Cuenta con un billar inglés en uno de los pisos superiores. Lo mejor: la azotea con mesas al aire libre que es una gozada cuando hace bueno. Lo peor: el estado de la limpieza de los baños a veces deja que desear.

For me The Red Lion is one of the better bars around hoxton due to having a pool table and table football on one floor, comfortable to hang out in on the other floors and the pièce de résistance is the rooftop area. The rooftop is simply amazing in the summer and, as to be expected very busy. They serve pizzas which are reasonably priced and always hit the spot. Not a great selection of draft beer/lager and at normal London prices but the Red Lion has a lot to offer. As it’s tucked away a little from the square and off the Main Street, the Red Lion generally gets busy with a good crowd but rarely hectic.

Fui aquí para un asado de domingo por mi cuenta aquí. Tan pronto como la "cena de carne asada" se colocó frente a mí, en lo que solo puedo describir como un salón escolar con muebles impactantes, instantáneamente me sentí enfermo. La "carne de res" era un filete barato, coriáceo, como la piel de una persona mayor que había sido sobreexpuesta al sol. Ni siquiera pude cortarlo. La salsa debe haber salido de un paquete ya que todavía estaba en polvo cuando se vierte sobre mi cena. Las papas asadas, nada especial. El vegetal era obviamente un paquete de vegetales congelados, apenas calentado en un microondas. Y los postres de Yorkshire pudines eran realmente la guinda del pastel. No comí un bocado de la comida y no habría pagado, pero el pago se toma cuando usted ordena. Traté de encontrar un miembro del personal cuando salía para expresar mi opinión, pero no pude localizar a nadie en ningún lugar del edificio. Sinceramente, preferiría pasar hambre que nunca me sirvan comida en este lugar establecido nuevamente.

Plastic glasses, really? Come on! Also, the staff keeps turning up or down the music so it's quite awkward and annoying if you want to have a chat with your friends.

Not so busy place in otherwise busy neighbourhood with a very cosy rooftop, but the staff is extremely rude. 😟 I understand that working with drunk people must be difficult, but why would you take it out on sober customers?
