Marion (Maz!) really looked after us after we dropped in at this lovely pub. The beer was great, the general company was entertaining and informed. Two days later Maz cooked us the most amazing venison stew. You need to book a couple of days in advance but you should - it was the highlight of our trip!

Tiny and traditional ‘olde-worlde’ Welsh pub with the loveliest landlady! Great beer and food! It’s a very tiny pub so make sure you book if you want food to avoid disappointment. We were staying nearby as a large group of 8 and the landlady arranged to make a big lasagne for us all, plus a delicious veggie lasagne for me (the only veggie in the village!!) that was so good that I had an extra portion while everyone else had dessert!! (We had just walked Sugar Loaf and Skirrid so were very hungry!!)

We were walking and had climbed Sugar Loaf and fancied a beer so we ended up at the Red Loon which was closed. The Landlady saw us and said she was more than happy to serve us so we sat outside and had a couple of pints. Thank you so very much for doing that, it was so kind of you.

One of an increasingly rare breed of traditional, homely Welsh pubs. Blend of genuine landlords, great beer, well-presented food, welcoming staff and local residents, super alluring location. The sort of place which welcomes back regular customers - whether that custom is resumed every week or only once a year (especially for major sports or community events). Long-established inns/pubs are not duty-bound to impress every traveller with their gastro-excellence. So, for all those visitors with bikes, dogs, special diets or other metropolitan elitist expectations who swagger in, glance around, wonder why staff don’t fawn over them, then depart without sampling the hospitality - good riddance! Leave this heritage of warm Welsh hospitality for those who genuinely appreciate it and don’t treat such authenticity as some museum artefact. You’re find a welcome in the hillside of Llanbedr. Guard it with reverent care - use it or lose it.

Restaurant was empty. Not surprised. Ignored by the staff. They were just chatting to each as there were no customers except us. Didn't bother sitting down. Bad atmosphere, so left.

This traditional Welsh pub is situated at the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain - a perfect spot for hungry walkers. Sunday lunch is all home-cooked: we all enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast with plenty of fresh veg followed by apple pie + cream. Booking ahead is advisable and the lovely helpful landlady may offer to be flexible with serving times for those who have driven a distance. Highly recommended.

Turned up around 2.45 cold from a 6 hour run in the rain. They weren’t doing food at that time but seeing how tired we were landlady offered to make ham rolls. Yes please!! Then she realised how cold and wet we were so offered us stilton and broccoli soup. Just perfect! Delicious. Lovely Wye Valley ale too.

Having popped in for drinks a weekend before we decided to book for food whilst family were over from the USA. We were won over by the friendliness of the land lady and husband. The landlady specially made gorgeous individual shepherds pie (with venison) followed by a selection of homemade puddings. The lovely local pub atmosphere and service was a really treat and our USA relatives were suitably impressed.

Arrived half way through a 30 mile bike ride looking for food and water. Found the food limited to baguettes on a Saturday & requests for water met with a frosty reception. Staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful.

Having walked 8 miles in wind and rain, my wife and I were hoping to dry out with a few pints and a warm indoors. We were disappointed to find out that our dogs were not allowed in. This was despite a group of muddy bikers being inside. So were sat outside shivering before moving on somewhere else. Other than that, the indoor was warm and cozy

We stopped off for sunday lunch but couldn't have a meal as we hadn't booked. After some asking the staff about what was available, we ordered cheese cobs which were huge. The beer was good too. The staff were friendly but not over helpful, perhaps because they were so busy. Great atmosphere.

We almost passed this place by but decided to try it out for a few drinks and something to eat. It is a lovely place very old world and quaint and also very homely. The staff were lovely and very helpful, the place itself was lively and busy but without being too noisey or crowded. We had a meal and a bottle of wine which were very nice and reasonably priced. Would return if we were in the area and would recommend to friends.

Really nice but disappointed that there was no bara brith, scones or Welsh Cakes to go nicely with the tea. (Other cakes were available).
