Revisited after not being very happy with our previous experience but our meal on Wednesday was great. Food was lovely and all 5 of us enjoyed it very much and service was good. Thanks for a great evening.

Myself and family visited the Red Lion on Sunday the 28th /07/24 for a Sunday lunch and i am sad to report that the food was diabolical' everything was cold the meat I.e. Beef was just fat covered with gravy to disguise the contents. having talked to the young waitress who was polite kind and very professional who was very apologetic about the situation got it changed .on the second time around it wasn't any better. The Red Lion is a wonderful Pub and the people using it are like a big family-friendly a lot of superb characters and it has a wonderful atmosphere. Super Landlord and Landlady but the weaknesses are the time it takes to be served at the bar and I honestly think the pub requires a better and more efficient kitchen staff. (attention to detail is greatly required) The food must always be checked before serving it to good paying customers .

Booked a table in the restaurant for my birthday and was told on booking that it was quiz night but not having been on a Tuesday night before this didn’t mean anything to me. Arrived at 7..30 pm the time the table was booked for and waited for nearly 10 minutes before being acknowledged by a lovely lady but unfortunately she was very stressed and I felt that we were an inconvenience for turning up on such a busy night. Did not feel comfortable with the way she was talking to us but was shown to a table and was told not to rush to decide what we wanted. Sat for ages at the table no one came over so went to order some drinks at the bar, again a long wait but overheard there was a wait of over an hour for food so took the decision to leave and got pizza from Domino’s to eat at home. On leaving the lady did come out to ask why we were leaving but by then that was too late. Very disappointed as the Red Lion is our new local having recently moved to the area.

Although this was our latest visits all previous ones have been trouble free and enjoyable. We usually book a table although on most occasions it wouldn't have been necessary. The staff are always friendly and the food has no frills and is good value for money. A good local pub with good food.

My wife and I went for an evening meal to celebrate her birthday. It was fairly busy for a Wednesday evening with 2 large bookings and a number of other diners plus quite a few people in the bar area and outside, so I was surprised that there only appeared to be 2 members of staff to do the bar, take orders and service the tables. We booked quite early so the service that we received was pretty good but I would imagine that the 2 members of staff would be rushed off their feet later. The food was very good, my beef rib bourgignon was very tender and tasty with a lovely, rich sauce but the tender stem broccoli was over cooked and a bit chewy. My wife’s scampi and chips was very good with a decent portion of both and our puddings of cheesecake and crumble pie were very nice. All in all a pleasant evening at a reasonable price.

As having a ceolic disease I fancied a simple egg in gluten free bread, they had the Gluten free bread and eggs but wouldn't do it. So offered the other sandwiches as gluten free, fair enough.. and then said they cannot guarantee cross contamination. So instead I opted for the Gluten free cheesecake, then they said they again cannot guarantee cross contamination. What's the point in offering Gluten free options if you cannot fulfil them, especially when there is no one else in the pub. Disappointing for a Greene King as every other Greene King seems to manage fine. Small kitchen or not.

My family and I went to red lion stubbington to have sis day lunch the last time we went there the food was lovely ,this time it was terrible ,our lunch was a senior lunch the beef was cut terrible you couldn't cut it ,the carrots were very hard and the beans were chewy ,I told the waitress and she took my plate back and a new slice of beef was put on my plate a thin slice and was edible ,won't be going again .another lady was complaining on another table about her burger so she took it herself back to the kitchen ,when you are paying good money for a meal you expect it to be edible this wasn't .

I am a fan of the red lion and have been there on many occasions. However, the way I was spoken to by a member of staff was extremely rude. I understand it's busy, but there is no need for staff to take their stress out on customers! I don't appreciate being spoken to in a rude manner. Therefore I will not be returning again.

What a waste of money first time I've been here and the service was appalling and didn't even get a thank you at till once ordered. When the food came after 45 mins my friends mixed grill was either child or anorexic sized meal, there was more fat on the gammon than meat and same goes for the steak but once asked for a replacement they were happy to replace it for one the same size. My lasagna was clearly microwaved and had no cheese on the top! When the food came we asked for some ketchup and when it came over there were the smallest ramekins n when we asked for more we got a very dull "ok" from the waitress, 25 mins later we asked at the bar where the ketchup was and it came over straight away and it wasn't even busy maybe 1/4 restaurant full.

We visit more or less every Tuesday lunchtime and at other times. The inside and outside seating is excellent. We take our small Papillon dog with us. The beer is always fresh and the Yellowtail Shiraz and Chardonnay are the best. The food is popular and we always see the same people dining there every week. We have never had a disappointing meal. The Staff are friendly and accommodating. There is ample parking and you will not be charged if you have signed the book or are on the premises when the parking is checked. This has to be done to prevent fly parking by people shopping in the very popular village. The best and most economical pub in the area.

The first time we went to the Red Lion was the day the Olympic Candle was paraded through the town. On a whim we thought that we'd try to have a dinner out afterwards and having used 'Ask' a few times we tried there and although nearly empty we were told that they were fully booked. So we wandered down to the Red Lion. What a surprise the was beer priced at reasonable rates (thanks to having 2-spoons in the town) and wife says the coffee is good. The atmosphere was relaxed although busy and we grabbed a table quite quickly. The menu is fair in its content but we noticed that if ordered after 17:00 the roasts were much reduced in price, bonus! 4 roasts later 2 of which were veggie and copius amounts of GK's IPA a good time was had. The Red Lion has taken over from 'spoons for Sunday dinner for us as the quantity is good and there is plenty of fresh cooked veg. The staff are friendly and attentive. As a Hotel I can't comment but the bar / eatery is fine by us.

If you want good food and a comfortable, friendly meal - avoid this place. We tried to book a table on the phone but it was a futile exercise. They don't answer phones, so we called in and booked. On arrival there was no reception and we eventually asked where our table was. We were ignored for the next 20 minutes so went to the bar to find out what was going on, to be told that we had to go there to order. Avoid the soup - it was a scalding hot glutinous mess described as "chicken soup" - probable straight from the packet. Mains were passable but soaking in fat and my pud - the "rolly-poly special" was burnt to a crisp, with balck solid jam. The staff were friednly but young and totally lacking in any training, so didn't have a clue about customer service. The gent's loos were very nicely designed but had a stomach churning stink; obviously hadn't been cleaned in a LONG time. If eating out in Stubbington, go to the Chinese over the road. Much better all round. One good point - the wind was reasonably priced.

Lovely food here. Went today been going for years. For some reason the entrance we always go in had a barrier in the way. Had it not been for a customer interrupting his lunch and telling us the entrance was further down. We would have left and probably never returned. A lesson learned hopefully.

Was so very disappointed, after everything we had heard we were expecting great things. On arrival we were ignored and not acknowledged for 10 minutes. The venue is very attractive and well laid out, there is generally a positive ambience except the initial welcome. The food did not live up to expectations, all was bland and although we all had different dishes they all tasted the same, no chillies or spice in the meals . The place is quite pricey and sadly it was definitely not worth the money. Real shame
