Love this place for a quick coffee or best fish and chips, lovely atmosphere with a traditional feel without feeling claustrophobic that yeoldeworldy places can sometimes have. Outside garden area for warmer times or nice and cozy sofas for chilly days.

I went in for Sunday lunch ,the food was tepid ,hard potatoes the lamb was tough and the table I was allocated was Rocky making cutting the lamb very tricky .Speaking to another customer they thought the same .Staff were good but I did not go to eat the staff ,please improve you are charging a good price

For a rainy night out, we walked from our lodging 15 mins away. Arriving at 5.30pm the pub was very quiet with only two others at the bar. There is not much bar area as most of the indoor space seems given over to dining tables set for meals. We shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio and ordered dinner around 6.30. Steak, onion rings and chips for me, and hubby had the chilli beef with tortilla chips and sour cream. My steak was THE BEST IVE HAD IN ENGLAND. And I’ve never had such crisp and delicious onion rings before. Sadly, the chilli beef did not get the same reception, being deemed too mild and the tortilla chips not fresh. We shared the biscoff waffle and ice cream for dessert. That was very yummy! One note - I’m 5”1’ and couldn’t even see my face in the very high mirror in the ladies’ loo, just the top of my head!

Great place. Hard working staff. Talented musician working the evening we dined. Liked the place a great deal.

What a great place. The food was delicious. I had the superfood salad with halloumi, chicken and Avacado. It really was the best I’ve ever had. Lovely play area for kids and the staff were really friendly and attentive. I highly recommend! Thank you.

Best meal out Iv e had in many a YEAR. I had Thai Green curry soooo tasty followed by a really hot and crunchy fruit crumble - delicious!! Tell the Chef! Can’t wait to go again!

Nice pub and staff but unfortunately a very underwhelming Sunday roast; pork was mostly fat, beef was underdone and chicken was dry. Definitely overpriced for the quality, £8 for a dessert which was a microwaved waffle with some ice cream and sauce on top.

I held a 30th party here on Saturday 8th June 2024, and Mayann was brilliant from start to finish. She made my dream come true by being very considerate and understanding to fulfil my needs. Including, adding a band in the garden! I had not dined here before so took a risk by commiting to feed 30 odd people, however locals had said the food was good and everyone on the day were really pleased. Especially the vegetarian option as it was varied and delicious for my friends. (We had a bbq buffet) Recommend 100%!

Lovely steak pie really impressive so much so it made feel like doing a backstroke in the jug of gravy so bloody tasty! My nephew loved the tikka burger too!

More of a restaurant than a pub, as you have to wait at the door to be seated which I really wasn't expecting from the outside.

Lovely late lunch after a nearby walk. Very quiet but understandably so at 3.30pm. We were grateful they were still serving food. We had pie of the day- which was chicken, bacon, and leek. Delicious. My partner had sausage and mash. He is still raving about the wild boar sausages. Great gravy and decent portions. Definitely recommend it, and we will definitely be back.

Went with the family on Monday for fish and chips in the garden. The sun was out, the service and food was good and the Harveys beer was as good as ever. Grandchildren played on the swings and climbing frame while we kept watch. A lovely lunch time treat!

I was welcomed as part of a large party of 18 people. Service was excellent, fast and all food arrived at the same time. The food was delicious, pints could’ve been poured better but this was a small issue among an overall great experience.

We had a good Sunday lunch here with family. What would have made it very good or even excellent would have been an actual nut roast rather than a vegetable pasty ( called a Wellington on the menu) or at least some sort of protein for the veggie roast dinner. Also the potatoes could have been nicer as they were pretty dry. But plenty of gravy helped. Would have liked a Yorkshire pud for the veg Sunday lunch as standard ( it wasn’t clear on the menu that it isn’t included) The staff were all friendly and polite. We loved the puddings. The brownie was v light and the bread and butter pudding was excellent.

Food is reasonably cooked and not quite Gastro Pub standard. Fire was not light and that was a pity as not that warm and made the ambiance less appealing.

Starter I had a soup I think it was butternut squash with fresh croutons Nice thick bread for the main I had a halloumi burger first time having one really enjoyed it. Recommend it. And the dessert I had. A apple fruit crumble with fresh custard. Again, thank you for the beautiful food. Will definitely be coming back

I was part of a party of 11. We had pre-ordered all our meals. Staff were very friendly. But we had a bit of a wait for our food which I must say was excellent. I think they were a bit short-staffed. Lovely pub though. Would recommend especially for the food and friendliness.

Good pub, with pleasant staff. Dogs are welcomed and a good selection of food/beer. Good opening hours compared to other pubs in the area (particularly on a Sunday - kitchen closes at 8pm - pub at 10pm). Some accessible tables indoors, accessible parking on site and accessible toilet as well.

Really nice burger , really great service , I’ve wanted to go to the Red Line for a long while and it’s really nice and cosy , good food and good atmosphere. 💪

We rode over to the Red Lion with friends. My wife is vegetarian and therefore, from the limited option, she chose macaroni cheese. At £16 plus £1.50 for bacon this seemed a bit steep but that was what she wanted (without the bacon because she’s a vegetarian). As she began to tuck into the meal she discovered pieces of meat and was somewhat distraught so we returned the meal. We were offered a glass of wine or a refund and since a glass of wine was far less than £16 dish we asked for a refund. My wife continued to feel upset about her dining experience. It wasn’t helped when a young female staff member was sent out to explain that the chef had earlier been slicing a ham and cheese toastie and probably had a piece of ham on the knife. This did not leave us feeling confident about the kitchen hygiene if utensils used to prepare meat are subsequently use to prepare vegetarian meals without appropriate cleaning. We’ve had super experiences at other local pubs. We’ve no plans to return to The Rad Lion!

Service at Red Lion was great and the halloumi stack was incredible! Really hit the spot and enjoyed our time here. Everything we ordered was delicious and served up quickly. They are also dog friendly. Thanks for a great dinner!

Came here for lunch after a walk through the beautiful Ashdown Forest. A proper pub with friendly and courteous staff and a delicious sandwich, chips and a pint of the excellent local ale.

Great garden and play areas for the kids.

Amazing atmosphere, with incredibly attentive staff. From the moment you walk through the door you feel like a welcomed guest. They have a vast array of beers and spirits and have a fabulous indoor and outdoor space with an outdoor area for children to play. There is ample parking and the pub easily accommodates small or large parties. Charlie was our server and I can’t give her enough praise. She made the whole family feel incredibly welcomed and even though the pub was incredibly busy, she saw that we all were served quickly. Will we go back again? Absolutely….would we recommend you go? Without a doubt!

Phenomenonal service. We had a party of 8 and everything was exceptional. Quick service despite it being a busy Friday night and the food was absolutely unreal!

First visit with friends. Nice menu and food, friendly efficient service. Although the weather wasn't warm enough to sit out the garden/terrace looked inviting. Only problem was the many flies inside that were a constant nuisance.

Great place for families or couples alike. We had a wonderful meal there and dispite it taking a little above average to come out but it was a busy father's day and it was well worth the wait with a delicious lamb roast, was a bit of a shame they were a bit stingy on the vegetables otherwise delicious. Massive garden and play area for the kids to enjoy too

Great roast, and lovely Guinness. Big garden as well so is lovely in summer as well. Staff are friendly and helpful. Menu isn’t that big however.

We had the MOST delicious fish and chips and scampi and chips here today. Even though they were super busy with a wake, Charlie, our waitress and her colleague were absolutely lovely, enthusiastic and attentive. Excellent customer service, excellent surroundings and lovely friendly welcome from people who care (even when they’re rushed off their feet).

Very lovely and cozy pub with a good menu, lots of choice. Staff were friendly and it wasn't long until we got our food. Loved the vegetable soup they had, comes with bread and butter, we shared the cheesey chips as well, they were delicious! Outside you have a large seating area as well which looks lovely, great for summer. I will be coming back here.

Very nice experience. Dog friendly, excellent service, nice atmosphere and decor. Food was lovely with all the trimmings. I had a lamb roast, but prefer leg of lamb not sliced roast lamb. The veg was really nice, especially the red cabbage. The flavours/seasoning could be nicer (i.e. roast potatoes) and I prefer a pot of gravy on the side, but other than that, overall really nice toast.

The food was delicious and the survive was excellent. Our waitress made us feel right at home and was friendly and polite.
